I’ve heard of axe throwing bars but never really considered going to one. (Me and sharp objects have never been a good pairing, I simply have the crappiest luck with them.) But GodNephew and his wife wanted to check it out. I didn’t do any axe throwing or play any Ping-Pong playing, so this review is based on the overall experience outside of that. No reservations but we made it within opening hour so our party of 8 was seated immediately. The menu didn’t take long to come through either. It also didn’t take long for us to go through it as their food selection isn’t vast. TIP: The group expedition part of the menu does NOT require a minimum order of 4 nor does each order feed a party of 4. We were all confused as to what they meant by “these dishes are designed for parties of 4 or more.” (Seriously, they should just take that statement out.) Our server said we can just order them like a regular order for one. ANYWAY! The verdict: FRIED MAC + CHEESE: I’m not really a fan of mac and cheese anything but these looked appetizing enough for me to try. Great crunch outside, nice creaminess of the cheese and macaroni was cooked perfect. For mac and cheese lovers, this is for you. WEDGE SALAD BITES: I’ve never had one of these and it’s not something I would even think about ordering. But hanger pangs started gnawing at me, so I gave it a try. Whoa, this was surprisingly good! It was refreshing with the fresh and crispy lettuce. The blue cheese dressing and crumbles were neutralized by the bacon bits. Recommending! CRISPY PORK: Crispy, they are not. Matter of fact, no part of that dish was crispy at all. But the seasoning was on point. Wrapped in warm tortilla and topped with tomatillo sauce = YUM. But really, they shouldn’t be calling these “crispy.” It’s completely misleading. BRISKET: I got to try a bite of it from someone else’s plate. DELISH. The only issue? The veggies were undercooked. All of them were soft on the outside and tough on the inside – bad enough to be inedible. (I know, we should have said something, but we really didn’t have the luxury of time for a do-over.) FOOD: 3.5. SERVICE: 3. It wasn’t busy but had hitches finding our servers. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue. OVERALL: 3.25. I got to take a peak at the axe throwing area and learned you can have your food and drinks brought there. There was also an instructor who can show you the ropes of axe throwing. GodNephew and wife enjoyed it. They didn’t complete the full hour, though. I figure they just got tired. TIP: They highly recommend making reservations! I noticed a DJ section situated above the floor, so it makes me wonder if this place gets poppin’ at night. They do have the area to open the floor since the bar is set right dab smack in the middle. Overall experience was above par. For curious enough people, come down and check ’em out.

Wild Tiki Fun Zone – Menu with Prices – 735 Iwilei Rd, Honolulu

Great experience! The absolute BEST place to have a child’s birthday party. Our party host, Brandon (that is also a manager) was so GREAT with all of the kids, he spoke to them in a way that they related well to, and they all acutally listened! The food was also served by him and his staff, and the cake. I didnt have to do anything and was able to enjoy also (and relax!). They were extremely accomadating (I had to add on kids about three different time) and they made it simple. Overall, a perfect, totally stress-free party!!!!!!

Maria’s Sweet Deli – Menu with Prices – 149 South St A, Newark

Horrible experience!! I called to make a couple of orders for my coworkers to be delivered and the person taking the orders didnt understand the order. The 1st order was an omelet with onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and cheese. The second order was grits with cheese and 3rd order of cheese grits with scramble egg and cheese and turkey bacon as a platter. I asked for prices and they were charging me 6.00 for a veggie omelet by its self (which i didnt order) and the omelet with the ingredients that I mentioned before. I started to explain to the person on the other and of the phone that it wasnt correct and it seemed they slammed the phone on their counter and was yelling at a different person and told them to get on the phone to take the order right so im getting upset because this is happening and 30 minutes already passed and they had to take my order again but the coworkers were upset that these people were being unprofessional and started to cancel their orders. They need better

State & Fig – Menu with Prices – 1114 State St #18, Santa Barbara

My friends and I had a bachelorette weekend ahead of us and the bride requested state & fig. I called in advance to make a reservation as we were a party of 8 but was told they do not take any reservations. The day of, I thought to call on our way to put our name down on the waiting list and was informed they cant do that but instead suggested I make a reservation, as it was a large party. I was extremely frustrated because they had just told me a few days before that they do not take reservations. I explained the situation and they quickly accommodated us. It was such a beautiful ambiance and service was amazing. Our server Tracey was so great and extremely friendly. She made our celebration that much better. Our party was really happy about the food and bottomless mimosas. I would definitely recommend the tomato Panini! Though it was a rough start, I will definitely be returning here when I am in the area!

If you’re looking for a place to try axe throwing, I highly recommend Lone Star Axe Throwing. I’ve always wanted to try axe throwing but the locations were further than I’d like to go, especially for impromptu date nights. They just opened up 3 weeks ago and my boyfriend & I had a BLAST learning how to throw and get our axes to stick, thanks to one of the owners coming and helping us along. Go support this awesome Arlington business and relieve some stress!

DeLuna Lanes – Menu with Prices – 590 E 9 Mile Rd, Pensacola

We planned a work outing to come here on Friday night. Someone called ahead and was told by a man who worked there that there would be bowling leagues until about 8:15, and then we could bowl. I arrived at 7:45 and asked the woman (not sure of her name) if we had a reservation. She pretty abruptly told me that “we don’t make reservations on Friday nights because the bowling leagues are here” and she said they would be there until 8:45. I asked if we could leave our name on a list for when they were done and she told me “we don’t MAKE reservations on Friday night, you’ll just have to come back.” Her tone was rude, but I kind of dismissed it because maybe she was stressed about it being busy. What I find unacceptable is how she treated the rest of the party when they arrived. She continued to be SO RUDE and rolled her eyes at us multiple times. She went to a group who arrived after us to bring them to the counter to check them in. We asked to get a lane, since we had been waiting longer and she told us no, that she was waiting for more lanes to clear. We pointed out that multiple lanes were open, she threw her hands in the air and said the would put us on them. She kept telling us how difficult it would be to take care of us. “UGH actually it WILL be hard to put them on your lane, I have to do an OVERRIDE and everything.” Literally the worst customer experience I have ever had. I could understand if we had come in and were rude to her that maybe she would be upset, but we were not. We work in customer service, and this was a work outing so we were professional. But honestly, even if we had rubbed her the wrong way, it’s her JOB to be polite to customers. I tell my employees that all the time. She represented Deluna Lanes when she rolled her eyes at us and threw her hands in the air. Not to mention how she started arguing with my party saying “No you DIDNT say that, and they are SUPPOSED TO TELL ME they are with your party.” She then proceeded to badger a few of my employees because they forgot to say they were with us. Literally just forgot to say it. I’ll never go back, and I’ll make sure to post this review everywhere I can find.

Downtown Sporting Club – Menu with Prices – 411 Broadway, Nashville

Most of the bars on Broadway have live music, open space, and a rooftop bar. Not to say that those bars aren’t awesome, but if you’re looking to play some games while having a drink, this might be a nice change of pace. After exploring some of the bars the city has to offer, we decided to check this place out. The Downtown Sporting Club is composed of four floors: First floor – In addition to a restaurant & bar, this floor offers ping pong and corn hole. They also have a picture worthy “Nashville looks good on you” wall pictured in my review. Second floor – In addition to a bar offering alcoholic slushees, this floor includes a variety of activities to choose from. They have axe throwing, which I recommend making a reservation for, arcade games, foosball, and a “lawn” area to watch several sports games simultaneously. Third floor – This floor is for “hotel” guests so we were unable to go to this floor. Pretty cool concept nonetheless. Fourth floor – More games, but outdoors on their rooftop. The rooftop offers a view of Broadway. They also have a dance floor and photo booth inside. If you’re looking for a place to chill, I recommend this fun spot!

La Parrilla – Menu with Prices – 5080 Riverside Dr, Macon

We would give it 10 stars if we could. We travel a lot and are Mex food junkies. Excellent chips, thin, crispy and warm. They have several salsas, depending on ones choice. The margaritas were superb and very delicious. I requested cheese and spinach enchiladas, as they weren’t on the menu. No problem, whatever you want!! Plus our darling waitress didnt miss a beat. This place set a new benchmark for excellence. They have been in business many years and its easy to see why. Dont miss this excitement dining experience.

Teri & grill – Menu with Prices – 1609 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery

Went to pick up a salmon bowl last night around 8:30…ate a corner & immediately started to barf…I called & left a message last night & told them I had been poisoned & would return tomorrow for a full refund WITH THE REMAINING FOOD…I was up ALL NIGHT BARFING starting at 9:30 & its a whole new day & Im still throwing up. IDK if she got it out of the trash or what…I guess after 8:30 she was ready to go…IDK what I was throwing up…I was just told by someone else that she has little beetles in her food…THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO DROP BY ASAP! They took my post down on FB…I posted pics of the barf & what it looked like…IT WAS AWFUL!!! IDK what she did to me but IT AINT RIGHT & ILL NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN! The Atlanta Hwy location IS TRASH! TRASH! TRASH! And when I took the bowl back she didnt even care that I had gotten poisioned by her establishment…not 1 single solitary care & DID NOT APOLOGIZE…she was like oh well…heres your refund… $9.90

Class Axe Throwing – Menu with Prices – 3400 E 52nd Ave, Denver

My friend wanted to go axe throwing and suggested another establishment but me being a deal seeker found Class Axe on Groupon. We planned on going axe throwing for a week, but made reservations the morning of, which I felt was super lucky. The space is super cute and shares the building with its other business (a haunted house). Upon checking into our reservation, we were told to wait a few more minutes for others in our reservation block. I can’t remember the lady’s name who gave directions on how to throw an axe and explained safety, etc, but she was awesome! Her personality shows that she loves working here and she kept us engaged during the games and competitions. The bar had a list of beers of about 12. Unfortunately for me, they sold out of the Vanilla Bean Stout during the previous reservation, but I was able to get an Apricot Blonde. I loved this place so much that I am coming back next weekend with a girlfriend to celebrate her birthday.

Izakaya Takasei – Menu with Prices – 2980 Yorba Linda Blvd, Fullerton

*** Vegetarian Review *** If you ever find yourself visiting a friend or family member attending Cal State Fullerton and they ask what do you want to eat, without hesitation, say Izakaya Takasei. They have several vegetarian or vegetarian-friendly appetizers to make up for the lack of main dishes. I’m not sure if they take reservations because when we went, there were about 5 parties of more than 8 waiting for tables. But the takeaway, they were waiting. If you Yelp this area, there are plenty of other places to eat so the fact they were waiting was definitely a great sign. We arrived at 6:30pm and our wait for a party of 7 — 1 hour, 20 minutes. 2 Tips for First-Timers: (1) Make sure to input your name on the waiting list inside. There is an iPad – type your name, number in party, and cell phone. They’ll buzz you when you’re table is ready. When they text you, they give you a link for your estimated wait time. (2) Don’t have holes in your socks if you choose to sit in on the floor section of the restaurant. Comparisons: For Northern California vegetarian Japanese foodies, Ohkura in Fairfield and Akebono offer tempura that is light, crispy, and not greasy. Izakaya is just as light, just as crispy, without that greasy feeling. Dinner Combo, vegetable tempura ($15.50, Grade A): The dinner combos come in a one or two-item option. Vegetarians basically have an option of a double order of vegetable tempura, but it was a good thing it was delicious. Served with miso soup, a bowl of rice, potato salad, and a house salad with special house dressing. The house dressing tastes like an egg yolk-based vinaigrette. These items included sides are standard for many Japanese restaurants and are on par with many Japanese restaurants. With that said, let’s talk tempura. Variety of vegetables include onions, broccoli, carrots, zucchini wedges, and lotus root. All are lightly battered and what I imagine flash fried because they are perfectly crispy without overly greasy. But the true test of vegetable tempura is the broccoli test. Was the crown mushy and just a spongy mess? Glad you asked. Quite the opposite. Crispy and light from the crown to the stem. Cheese Age, 5 pieces ($3.95, Grade C+): Deep fried cheddar cheese and jalapeños wrapped in wonton skins. Sounds great, but sadly, these were a bit greasy and fell flat. They weren’t even crispy. Bottom line, if Panda Express can make cheese rangoons light, crispy, and hot, I was expecting much more. Sauteed Enoki Hackberry Mushrooms with Butter ($4.95, Grade A+): Mushrooms are one of my favorite foods and one of my favorite phrases is “with butter.” It’s not a large side dish, but it’s a very rich tasting dish so having a smaller portion isn’t a problem. The umami meter was off the chart here and with the added texture of the enokis, this dish is a winner. I would come back just to order this side with a bowl of rice and it’s one of those dishes were you wish you had the recipe. Overall restaurant observations: (1) Clean restaurant (2) Friendly and fast service. This was impressive considering the restaurant was full. (3) Plenty of parking Bottom Line: It’s not far from Disneyland if you want a break from churros and pretzels. I would double-check to see if they accept reservations because if you do decide to leave the happiest place on earth, the last thing you want to do is wait in another line that doesn’t include any high speed free falls. The prices are super reasonable — before tip, party of 7. Our bill was a little over $83. Super cheap for Japanese food, but don’t take this as a reason to go all price-hike-crazy Izakaya. You have great food at even greater prices — that’s why people are waiting outside for over an hour for a seat. Definitely will be on our rotation when we visit Disneyland.

IstanBulls Hookah Lounge – Menu with Prices – 29 Van Campen Blvd, Wilmington

Last night 2.1.19 we went out to celebrate with a love one for her birthday. We had reservations for a party of 8.The birthday girl arrived and her best friend were the first to arrive. 10 mins later myself and two cousins arrived. Once we got in and sat down Isoon(the worker) came over to explain the menu and ask what flavor did we wanna put in the hookah. Two of them had paid 14.98 and ordered drinks. Isoon came back and ask what did I want I said nothing at the moment I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do but I didnt wanna smoke because I had a sore throat. Isoo. Stood there with her hands together and said well its 14.98 and you cant just sit and hang out we run a place of business and its a friday night and you had a reservation of 8. I said so basically you want my 14.98 to just sit ok I paid for a glass of wine and begin to hookah as well. Keep in mind on a busy friday night it was 5 of us in the place myself and my family. Than about 10 mins later a couple came in. A few moments later our other family memeber arrived. Isoon came back over ask what she would like she told her and paid the 14.98 but Isoon had not brought the hookah just her drink. A few seconds later Isoon came and sak where was the rest of the party at this time it was 6 of us. 2 more friends were on the way. So we explained they were coming but we had no control over who showed up. When she stood there she said she wouldn’t bring the hookah out unless the other two came or either we paid the 14.98 for the two other people and she would bring the 3rd hookah. So we said ok no problem us 6 will just smoke out the two we have. The other friend soon Arrived and Isoon was back our friend stated said she would take a drink and she didnt wanna smoke. Isoon told her it was 14.98 for her drink (a corona) she said oh no Im not paying 14.98 for one drink Isoon than explained again we were there on a friday night when they are busy. Again at this time it was 9 people my family and a couple. Our friend eneded up leaving to meet us at dinner. Just a few seconds later our other friend arrive which would have had our party of 8. Isoon came back and ask her for her order she said no thanks I dont want anything im fine Isoon than explained again what she had said 6 times already. She walked away and was talking to the gentlemen who was working she came back and said you can stay and just pay the price of a drink. At this point you had already made $90 and we were disappointed because it wasnt explained correctly at the time of the reservation. If we had known we would have definitely went elsewhere. This was the worse experience ever not to mention we were in the back of the place with no lighting and every camera was pointed at us. So sad because they had plenty of space to put us young ladies they sat the couple up in front towards the tv and they had lights to see. We had to use the flashlight on our cellphones to read the menu. We wont be back.

Stacks Grilled Cheese and Bar – Menu with Prices – 311 Hiawatha Blvd W, Syracuse

Across the street from Destiny USA in the Embassy Suites hotel is a new restaurant, Stacks Grilled Cheese & Bar featuring an array of traditional and specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, unique appetizers and a variety of beers, as well as signature cocktails. Serving lunch and dinner with a full bar daily. Definitely wanted to try this place as soon as I heard about it. There are plenty of grilled cheese restaurants in the country, and I’ve always felt that it was a great idea if done right. This weekend, the wife and I met up with some friends to finally check it out. We made a reservation for 6 PM on a Saturday, since we had 5 in our party and weren’t really sure how busy it would be. It was completely empty when we arrived, and through our entire meal, which could’ve been from the fact that it was the same weekend as Taste of Syracuse. We were able to take our choice of seating. It’s a very upscale looking restaurant for specializing in grilled cheese, and it’s right in the middle of the main floor of the hotel, and is not marked anywhere inside or outside, but it’s hard to miss and you’ll run right into it from both of the main entrances. 3 of my party, including myself, ordered the Bleu Bandit Crispy Chicken grilled cheese, while the other two ordered the Green Goddess and BLT options. I try anything buffalo chicken, so it was the obvious choice for me. We all went for their housemade, fresh cut fries as the side. Meals were made relatively quickly and brought over to us. They were all plated very nicely. The fries were put into a cute little deep fry basket on each plate. We all started in and everything was good. The fries had great flavor, but were very greasy and mushy. Would’ve been way better had they gotten crispy. The sandwich was good,but there wasn’t nearly enough buffalo sauce on it. As a matter of fact, you could barely taste it. But the bread was sturdy and toasted well, the cheese was melty, and the bleu cheese had good flavor. The fried chicken on it was very good quality, and it was also a very hearty, filling sandwich. Prices were fair and service was good. I feel like they could be a much better place with just a couple tweaks, as the fries could be crispier and more sauce was definitely in order for my sandwich. It was good, but not the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had, and that’s what I’m expecting from a restaurant that specializes in them.
