Island Sushi and Ramen has very easily become my new favorite place. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall (which who am I kidding…usually clues you in to how great it is). The inside is quite small but decorated nicely. We went on a Thursday night and the place was packed. People kept pouring in the entire time we were eating. That’s always a good sign right?! I found out by talking to one of the waitresses that it is a family restaurant which I adore. It is run by a husband and wife with the husband behind the sushi bar and the wife waiting on patrons. I enjoyed watching them work together. Makes my heart pitter patter just thinking of it. Now to the food… I saw the Thai Iced Tea on the other yelp reviews and it looked very unique so we ordered one to try. It was exotic and refreshing. It reminded me of a chai tea, but packed with more flavor. Try it. It’s a must!! For dinner we decided to get an order of the pot stickers and split a ramen. The pot stickers are delicious. But hold up. Want to know the best part…they are only FOUR DOLLARS! Not even four dollars. $3.95 to be exact. I KNOW!!!!! You get 6 with the order and my husband and I both agreed we could have had two more orders they were so yummy and cheap. Crazy crisp on the outside and flavorful and tender on the inside. The shrimp ramen was to die for. We ordered it in the bone broth which was very creamy and rich. One of my favorites of the entire dish was the egg. Perfectly cooked with a slightly runny middle. Yum! Every ramen includes a side salad with the classic ginger dressing. Little did I know I would be getting a show with my dinner as I watched my husband clumsy his way through eating noodles and soup with chopsticks . I felt like I was sitting across from The Beast while Belle watched him slurp up dinner like an animal. He gave it his best effort, made me laugh in the process, and I love him more for it. This is a Boise must. Super cheap and delicious food! I’ll be dreaming of ramen and pot stickers tonight.

Jimenez Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1915 Dutton Ave, Waco

One of the best bakeries in Waco, if not THE best. There was a large selection of Mexican sweet bread, as well as ginger pigs, pastries, and other assorted goodies. Large bin of fresh bread. (I watched it come out of the oven!) Most of the offerings are sweet, however you will find some options like regular loaves of bread. The Concha as well as a few of the sugar breads are dry, I recommend eating those with your favorite beverage, like coffee or milk. Everything was really cheap, each pastry ranges from .50 cents each to .75 each. I’m fairly certain everything is .50 cents unless otherwise noted. Oh, and another thing. The bakery IS cash-only, so make sure to bring at least 10 dollars. Trust me, you can get a lot with that 10 dollars.

Jake’s Rockin’ Ramen – Menu with Prices – 31805 Temecula Pkwy #9, Temecula

Went here for the first time today with my family. i’m a huge ramen lover and i wanted to love this place so bad but unfortunately the Ramen i ordered which was the black garlic ramen lacked flavor big time. the best part of the ramen was the noodles they were chewy and bouncy just how i like them, the corn wasn’t sweet at all, i got mostly hard pieces of cabbage in my ramen and the chashu was dry and extremely thinly sliced. My husband ordered the spanish ramen which he liked but he said it just lacked flavor. we also ordered the fried octopus which was very tasty, the sauce they give with it tastes like a creamy sriracha sauce. i wanted this spot to be place i come back to but unfortunately the broth in the ramen just lacked so much flavor that it makes me not want to come back.

Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai – Irvine – Menu with Prices – 14370 Culver Dr SUITE C, Irvine

2 stars for the service. 5 stars for the food. Let’s start with the bad. Came in for dinner and ordered their karaage for the appetizer and the Kitakata Ramen with Egg with extra soup and noodle. We saw the server deliver what seems to be our order to the table in front of us. The table seemed confused and the order sat on their table. Assuming I’m wrong, I just kept my mouth shut and waited. Our chicken arrived and we enjoyed it while waiting for our bowl of ramen. I continued to stare at the bowl at the table in front of us until a server came and confirmed with the other table that they did not order three bowls of ramen. I watched the servers huddle to figure out who’s order they missed until they realized it was ours. Our food was probably sitting there for at least 15 minutes until they finally placed it on our table. They explained that they had to remake our extra broth and noodles since they got cold. We asked to have the ramen remade too, stating it got brought out to the wrong table at first. The server denied it until I explained to her I watched the entire thing go down. The last thing I ever want is a server lying to me. I’ve been on the other side and it’s not that hard to own up to your mistakes. We are willing to wait for our food too. I didn’t mind that our order had to be remade, I’d rather have it fresh rather than stale, sitting at a table. I would assume that Kitakata would want to serve their ramen in the best condition possible. I was surprised they would reserve a bowl that sat at another table then lie to a customer about it. Because of that, -3 stars. The good: The ramen holds up. Their shoyu broth is light but packed with flavor. The hard noodles are perfectly cooked, a balance between chewy, bouncy and soft. The soft boil egg is lightly marinated. The pork is a good balance between fatty and meaty. For the spice lover, definitely get green chilli paste on the side. As the other reviews mentioned, their fried chicken is to die for. They’re crunchy and juicy. The meat is tender and the dipping sauce was a perfect addition. Overall, I would come back to Kitakata for food but I’m not sure if I would venture to this one just from the bad experience I had with the servers.

Lazeez Fresh Mediterranean Menu with Prices 4666 Broadway, Allentown

I brought my husband here yesterday because I was craving Mediterranean food and had heard this was a good place. Iâ??m going to say right now, itâ??s not good – this place is phenomenal! The man at the counter immediately greeted us and everyone who walked in while we were there. He was friendly and offered menu ideas to my husband and I. I ordered the chicken shawarma combo for my husband and side orders of falafel and stuffed grape leaves for myself (my husband had only had this type of food once before so heâ??s still figuring it all out). The food arrived reasonably quickly and was obviously freshly made. The woman who brought the food to our table was really nice and very understanding of my silliness when I misunderstood her and thought she had brought me the wrong plate. The portions were huge – Iâ??m eating leftovers while writing this and thoroughly enjoying them as well. The little honey cakes on both plates were a delicious touch and a tasty end to our meals. For those looking for cheap options yes, this will seem a little pricey. However, the freshness of the food and the quality are why itâ??s a little pricey and are well worth the few extra dollars. Thank you to the owner and his team for a great place!! Weâ??ll definitely be back!

Shio Ramen Shop – Menu with Prices – 3605 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City

Cancel all future dinners, I will only be eating ramen from now until spring! Kidding…sort of…maybe… This was our first visit to Shio – when we first pulled up I was a little nervous about where the heck to park (I have parking anxiety, don’t judge me) but never fear, there’s plentiful parking around back. The inside of this little shop is just that…little, but it’s super cozy and perfect for dinner for two. We ordered the Okonomiyki (Japanese savory pancake) for a starter and it was really interesting…in a good way. The pork belly on top was amazingly tender and flavorful. No offense at all to the dish, but next time I’ll skip the app and save more room for RAMEN. I got the Shio and hubs got the Shoyu – the waitress recommended these as the “traditional broth and noodle ramen”. Both were absolutely delicious. At first I was a little jealous because hubs broth packed a bit more of a punch, but to be 100% honest, we both agree that the broth is amazing, but maybe just a hair on the salty side if you’re eating a whole bowl yourself. Shio is definitely the winner for both of us, but you better believe I’ll be back (tomorrow) to work my way through the rest of the menu.

Hesperian Health Guides Menu with Prices 1919 Addison St # 304, Berkeley

I took my daughter here for her birthday. She had been here once before but was a bit apprehensive because she read some bad Yelp reviews. My experience was great. We ordered the AYCE shabu shabu with the spicy miso broth. We considered ordering the set menu but the AYCE was a better deal especially if you want anything other than regular broth. Next time I’ll order the ramen rather thanto eat with the broth at the end of the meal. We ordered lamb, beef, pork, and vegetables (good variety). Everything was very fresh and plentiful. We rolled out of the restaurant. We ordered a bit too much, at the end, but didn’t want to waste food. The service was spot on. The waitstaff made sure we had enough of everything. We went for an early dinner so it wasn’t crowded. The restaurant is serving sushi again but we didn’t order any. The table next to us did, and they seemed to enjoy it. I plan to return with my husband Feb 19 Returned tonight with my husband. Service was still excellent. Food was great. We tried the ramen at the end of our meal and it was so good – the broth made it. We got there at 6pm & there was a birthday party just starting. While we were eating the place filled up. There’s a new menu. If you get the all-you-can- eat shabu shabu (Happy Hour), you get 50% off of small plates & non-alcoholic beverages. Also the automatic 18% gratuity is gone so you may leave a tip as you see fit. The menu indicates the all-you-can-eat Happy Hour dinner is from 5-7:30 but the server says they can make exceptions.

The Whet Noodle – Menu with Prices – 1813 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside

I’m a chef who likes to go to local places when I’m on vacation. One of the many things I enjoy is ramen and sushi. I went with my wife and kids and at first it started off great we ordered sat down and the staff was friendly. They brought out one of my kids plates then the sushi and were left wondering about my other kids plate. I looked at our receipt and noticed they only charged for one after emphasizing I needed 2. The sushi itself was really good tasty and different. It was on their Friday menu. The kids chicken was perfectly cooked. The second kids plate didn’t come till everyone at the table was served. When the ramen hit the table it looked amazing I ordered the creamy mushroom ramen they had as the special wasn’t creamy nor was it flavorful. My wife ordered the pork ramen off the regular menu same thing looked good but broth was meh. I mean if your going to advertise ramen your broth needs to be on point. Both dishes were bland with lack of seasoning. Honestly felt like I was drinking essence of broth. Was offered coupons and free desert turned both down really don’t think I’d ever go back.

Ramen Tatsunoya – Menu with Prices – 16 N Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena

We were originally in the area with no intention of eating out for dinner but passing by Tatsunoya, we saw the line and said, “hey, this place has got to be good.” So then we decided to eat out for dinner, haha. Parking: although not so much an issue for us today, I did see that street parking was difficult to come by. I would circle around the block a few times and see if you get lucky. Wait time: There were maybe 4-5 parties in front of us waiting to be seated, but our total wait time was still only about 15 minutes or so. The line goes by pretty quickly and they try their best to accommodate your table preferences. They have bar seating, table seating, and a communal table in the center with this huge tree trunk going through the middle of it. We got seated at the bar so we didn’t get the tree experience, haha. They were quick to sit us and take our order. Our hostess gave us a basket for us to put our purses, jackets, and bags and then slid it under our table. That’s the first I’ve experienced that, but it was handy! Food: Their menu is simple, you can choose from 3 ramen options, no substitutions. I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu, which is miso based. It came with 2 smallish pieces of mostly fat, chasu. The broth was thick and silky, delicious. Noodles were a little hard, which is how I prefer them, but some of my noodles were stuck together and a little too starchy. My main let down, was the spicyness. It was not spicy. They could’ve told me it was regular non-spicy ramen and I would’ve believed it. They do have a little jar of the spicy mix on the table for you to add to your bowl and adjust as you see fit. I guess that’s ok, but then why call it the Spicy Tonkatsu on the menu? What I also didn’t like was that the spicy mix came with pieces of ground meat. I can tolerate small amounts of pork (allergic), so my partner usually ends up getting my extra pieces of chasu, which I don’t mind. In this case, I felt like I wasn’t able to adjust the spicyness of my ramen because the spicy mix had ground meat in it, and it would just be impossible, and annoying, to sit there and try to pick out all the meat. So I ate my ramen as is, and with no real spicyness to it ? Conclusion: Glad I got to try it, it left me full, but I’m not sure I left fully ramen satisfied. I wanted spicy ramen, I ordered spicy ramen, but did not get spicy ramen.

Saki Teriyaki – Menu with Prices – 4795 E McKinley Ave, Fresno

Finally, some great Japanese food in Fresno. Not only was the food spot on in taste, and preparation but also the staff was kind and passionate about their work. My wife had the shoyu ramen which took a bit to come out, but had a delicious stock and was altogether very enjoyable. I went with the combo plate which came with their teriyaki meats including chicken, beef and shrimp. It was a little unusual to be served cold gyoza, but all temperatures of gyoza are served in different parts of the world so this is by no means a negative (I just dunked it in my wife’s ramen for a bit anyway). The meal came with a few cuts of sushi and some ginger which was a huge plus for me. We were very satisfied with their customer service and portions, and will definitely be back again!

Ramen Hakata – Menu with Prices – 8300 Gaylord Pkwy #16, Frisco

I love this ramen spot, and I’m so glad they opened a location in Allen! I had never really had true ramen before, most of my ramen experience was from a packet. After we tried a spot in Dallas I was craving ramen daily, but didn’t want to drive out to Dallas. I tried a few place in Plano that did not meet my expectations and then finally found this place! The ramen here, not matter which one you get, is delicious. The tonkatsu is my favorite, and what a recommend to everyone, especially if you’re new to ramen. The broth is so meaty and delicious, unlike anything else. The noodles are always cooked perfect, not too soft or mushy. The miso ramen is also great, but once you e had tonkatsu, it’s hard to try anything different! The spicy tonkatsu is very spicy! To beware there. I’ve also had the udon, which isn’t always my favorite, but there’s is delicious, and the noodles are so tasty. The space is a small and quaint and very well kept. I love their wood decor, it adds a lot to the experience. If you’re staying for dessert try the strawberry mochi! The chocolate one is okay, but strawberry is the bomb! I highly recommend checking this place out if you like delicious ramen! They have multiple locations in the metroplex so you might have one near you if this one is too far.

Shoku Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 1221 Alhambra Blvd Suite 107, Sacramento

I suggested and bookmarked this new ramen spot after coming across it on Yelp while ever searching for gems to eat at in the 916. My fam trusted me. So off we went. It is near my wife’s work UC DAVIS on Folsom Blvd. This shop is nearby on Alhambra. Ok they have their own lot. Funny they have signs barring Kru, Star Ginger etc from parking in their spots. Parking is at a premium downtown. Sad but true. I got a black garlic ramen $8.99 and asked for extra spicy. Damn. I coughed and choked on the ripping ass hot heat. Nice. The broth I could taste was good. Better than Natomas Fins and Koshi. Not as good as Ryujin and Raijin. Those are the Sac top standards for ramen and ramen broth. But this place is killer! Decent portion and good stuff in the bowl. My daughter got the tofu ramen $6.50 and a breaded pork sammy. She liked both. This kid likes ramen at home, away, anywhere. Lol. She liked the sando. I tried it and it was ok. But can’t beat the $5 tag. Wife got the Tonkotsi ramen $8.99 and liked it. They also have apps and udon too. Plain ramen is just $5! Good for meatless lovers. Just a note that you get 2 pieces of pork in the black garlic and tonkotsu. They were yummy and the egg was def the porn variety and was cooked perfectly. Conclusion: My ass is coming back here as often as I can. Drawback? It is downtown. Traffic is always messy. At least parking is not street so no gouging by the gentrifying Sac downtown due to councilmembers and the city trying to turn Sac into SF and Bay Area #2.

Asian Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 609 Tully Rd, Modesto

This place just changed owners. It’s across from the MJC east campus. The staff are very friendly and the place is very pleasant and clean. They serve both Chinese and Japanese Cuisine. Prices are good with appetizers from $3.50 to 6.50 and meals $7.50 to $9.50. I had lemon chicken with a lot of fried rice which came with two pot stickers($7.50). My wife had the honey walnut prawns with chow mein ($9.50). The food was very good ,a descent amount and served quickly. They also served use samples of their garlic chicken. We took a to go menu as it is walking distance from our home. They also serve Sushi Rolls and Udon/Ramen soup. I recommend this as a great place especially if your on a budget!
