Got a good deal for this one, and as we were flying out of SEATAC the next morning, enroute to our honeymoon. this seemed like a good overnight hop. (we’re from Vancouver, BC). First off, the location, check in and parking.. It’s nice and close to the highway, but far enough off that it’s not heard. This made for a nice night, and quick getaway in the morning. That said, there’s NOTHING else here. You’ll need a car to come and go, and it’s either a $12 Valet + tip, or $20 for the MASSIVE (empty) self parking lot. Not wanting to be bothered to tip a man 6 times, we just paid the $20 instead. I also prefer to be able to hop straight into my car when I’m flying out – something not possible when waiting for an early morning valet. Check in was simple and quick, and the desk staff were both polite and efficient. On Amenities…The hotel offered a $25 food voucher, but the eatery we’d have preferred was closed Sundays, so we opted to head off property instead. As we were only there for one night, we didn’t bother to take in any of the available amenities. Not even sure what was available. On the Room…The room itself was very nice. Though some of the furniture could use some general touching up, it was in good, clean condition. Our room overlooked the valet area. Though it provided no inspiring views, it remained quiet through the late evening and night. The ample bathroom and comfortable bed were a refreshing touch. It’d have been nice to have a useable fridge; a minibar in a place like bellevue is probably unnecessary. We popped into the local Walgreens instead of partaking. We got ice from the very oddly located (and poorly labelled) ice chest near the elevator instead. On the Clientele…This place seems to attract the Audi driving golfer kind of crowd. If you’re not sure what that means, you’re probably one of them and would fit right in. Annoyingly, we’re a pair who can afford luxury, but would prefer not to feel quite so stuffy – Which is how this property felt overall. All that said, it was generally nice, but I would not stay there again, as it simply wasn’t ‘us’. The minor annoyances were enough to overtake the things we liked most. It’s a pricey place – and if it’s your style, it might be worth while. But if it’s not, look elsewhere.

Redmont Hotel Birmingham, Curio Collection by Hilton Menu with Prices 2101 5th Ave N, Birmingham

I spent a night in a double room with a friend at the Redmont for a girl’s night out over Mother’s Day weekend. Check in was at 3pm and we arrived very shortly after that. Valet up front was very polite, check in was easy, and our room was ready. I unfortunately did not capture any pictures of the room, but it was very nice and clean. The bathroom was very nice with a rain shower head and a large ledge to hold bathtub products. The vanity/sink area was the only area with a mirror and it was quite small, making it difficult for 2 ladies to get ready at the same time, but we made due. We ate dinner close by, calling down to valet to have our car ready when we were downstairs. Everyone was very polite. The rooftop bar was closed off on the exterior deck as it was raining, but there was an area inside where the bartenders were hanging out. Our drinks back at the hotel were awesome and they let us bring our last glass of wine to the room. I’m only giving 4 stars because of what happened the next morning. We admittedly did not fill out the breakfast form the night before, but when we woke up the next morning, all we wanted was a carafe of black coffee. I called at 8am to make the request and at 9am, we still did not have coffee. I called the front desk again and they told me they would check on it. Twenty minutes after that, we finally had coffee in our room, with the attendant delivering the coffee admitting it was never put into the system when I first called. There was also another miscommunication with the front desk when I had requested to have our car ready from valet at 11am so we could make brunch reservations, and the valet admitted that they were not told that and apologized profusely. All in all, our stay was very nice and I would definitely go back. All the staff we communicated with were pleasant and accommodating. I do think there could be some work with the front desk facilitating messages, but while it’s enough to write about, it was not enough to sour the experience. Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Birmingham!

Hyatt House Irvine/John Wayne Airport – Menu with Prices – 2320 Main St, Irvine

Always a pleasant experience with the Hyatt House properties. We booked a standard king size room with points. Given that this is a Hyatt Category 2 property, it was only 8000 points per night! It was quite a steal. The room was clean and spacious. The shower was a standing shower only. I always enjoy a bathtub when I travel but I think that is probably only available for a 2 queen bed room. The kitchenette has everything one would need for a quick, simple meals. All the utensils, plates and bowls are available. I can see how convenient it must be for The amenities were excellent. The gym was adequate and we walked on the treadmill for a little bit to loose up. We didn’t get to use the heated pool but it looked very clean and well kept. We were impressed by the breakfast! This is not our first Hyatt House or Hyatt place so we were acquainted with the standard complementary American breakfast. The hot food always consist of bacon, sausage, or eggs. But the twist here is the omelette bar! That deserves an extra star right there! Unfortunately, parking was $18. Some Hyatt properties waive the parking fee with award stay altogether even if you don’t have their highest Globalist status, which I do not. We really don’t see a need for valet at $22 since there were spaces for temporarily parking so you can drop off your luggage and check in. We did get in touch with the GM prior to our visit and was able to secure a discount. I imagine most people who stay here are for business travel in the area or need a place to stay by the John Wayne airport. For a category 2 award stay, a typical room rate runs at $179 or more per night so a World of Hyatt member can easily achieve at least 2.2 cents per point using their point booking versus paying cash price. I think this is property is too far from Disneyland and would not recommend it above the Hyatt properties in Anaheim. Hyatt House in Irvine is a solid Hyatt property and deserve all 5 stars!

Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney – Menu with Prices – One Park Ave, Detroit

Gorgeous lobby but I really weird place to visit. Or maybe I just had a bunch of odd things occur during my stay. I arrived around 9pm on a rainy Sunday and I could see Valet inside playing on his phone and there were two cars in the valet cut out with no where else to park. So I parallel parked between the two cars. When I was just about parked another valet guy interrupted the valet on the phone and they both gave me this odd look. Phone valet guy then came out and took my name, not offered to help with bags, just took my name and gave me a ticket. Odd thing #1. I venture into the gorgeous lobby to check in. As Im walking up to the desk two ladies walk away the one with her face literally in the back of the other and they walk to what Im assuming is an office. It made more of a scene than if they both would have walked a normal distance apart. So another lady checked me in. Odd thing #2. So I go up to my room, it is ok. The bed was comfortable! I decide Im going to check out WXYZ bar that is off the lobby. The food is not great, I wouldn’t recommend that. Heading back to the room and Im going to lay it down for the evening. Go to put the deadbolt on and it doesn’t work. Odd thing #3 Im a little handy so I check and see what the issue is, the strike plate is off center with the bolt. If you lift the door up enough you can just get it to bolt. However, its a struggle in the morning to get it to unbolt. I did tell the receptionist in the am upon check out but if you have room 619, check the bolt before you get settled. The am valet guy was way more on the ball than his evening counterpart. The hotel is a good location for visiting Detroit. I didnt use the fitness gym but I did check it out and it is on the nicer end for a hotel.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel West Palm Beach Airport – Menu with Prices – 1808 S Australian Ave, West Palm Beach

I’m a frequent business traveler around the state and I’ve always driven past this DoubeTree property but have never stayed. That’s because my employer generally wants us to stay at hotels the are “budget friendly” since we are in one every night. However, this time while searching on my Hilton app for vacancies in the WPB area, I saw the DoubleTree including taxes and fees was only $140! Typically, they are much higher because they are full-service. The nice thing about this property is that there is a restaurant inside (see my rating on that), which is great because this area has absolutely no restaurants. For the hotel, parking was easy (you don’t need to valet unless you want to), the lobby has high ceilings and is very clean. I checked-in on my Hilton app so that was a breeze. The elevators were clean and efficient. Waking to my room the halls were also nice (this is key because it shows good upkeep). My room was clean and accommodating. Linens were fresh. The desk was large enough to do plenty of work. Now to the important part, the bathroom. It was very clean, however, a bit small. However the sink, tub, and floor was clean. No problems with the towels either. The beds were very soft, and I must say, of all the hotels I’ve stayed on the road, I got one of my best sleeps in awhile here! Thanks!

Ambassador Hotel Wichita, Autograph Collection – Menu with Prices – 104 South Broadway Street, Wichita

I was hoping to not have to write this as a negative review. Back in October, we booked a stay at The Ambassador Hotel in Wichita. We are Marriott rewards members and always stay at Marriott and Autograph properties. In the past our friends had a negative experience at this property, however, given the positive reviews, we decided to give it a chance. We had been at our children’s sporting events all day and we were rushing to get to a wedding. We arrived at the Hotel at 4:15 and when we were unloading our bags we realized our high school kids had left all their overnight bags in our car. We used valet services for time and convenience. We quickly changed and admired our room. Up to this point, the staff and hotel seemed amazing! We took an Uber to the wedding returning later that night. We ate at the restaurant and went downstairs to the SpeakEasy, both of which made for a great night! The next morning we slept in and enjoyed our beautiful room. When valet brought our car around we realized someone had taken everything in our car. Our kids had new birthday clothes and all of their sporting gear, even new cross country spikes never worn, it was all gone. Everything out of the center console and glove box was gone including pictures of the kids from when they were little that can’t be replaced. The car had no signs of forced entry. Since valet had the only set of keys either valet staff stole from us or the doors were left unlocked. Either way, the hotel and/or valet were responsible. The front desk was apologetic but offered nothing. When I contacted the Wichita Ambassador GM, he was rude and belittling. I then contacted the Cooperate office in Oklahoma, they said they would contact their insurance immediately. They also promised us a stay at a different Ambassador location to earn our business and trust back. Insurance sent me an email stating they were not responsible for the stolen property and there was nothing further they could do. Over the last couple months, I have left numerous messages for the gentleman in Quality Control and Hospitality but he has never responded. I am very disappointed to say Ambassador Hotels have left a very bad impression. Not only did they not accept responsibility for the incident at their property but they made a promise to earn our business back but instead didn’t follow through and ignored us. We have stayed at Marriott and Marriott Autograph properties for many years and have never been treated this poorly.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Amarillo West Menu with Prices 8330 W Amarillo Blvd, Amarillo

09/06/18 I was one of 6 crewmembers who comprise 2 Helicopter Medical Teams who were unexpectedly stuck overnight due to weather. We arrived without reservations and all at once. The evening clerk(Jasmin?) was friendly, efficient and accommodating. She judged correctly that we were probably hungry, having been flying all day, and gave us detailed information of the nearby places that were still opened and those who would deliver. Each of us were also impressed that a room key was required to access the elevator. Great security item to note. The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. I was the one to suggest HIE as it my first choice for accommodations when I have the choice. This particular property is absolutely one of the nicest ones I can remember staying at. The next morning we were still uncertain as to our ability to fly in the weather and debated our alternatives. The day clerk (09/07/18) granted us an extended-extended checkout as we attempted to decipher the ever changing weather. Front desk and house keeping were all beyond hospitable. I was also surprised to learn that the property was 6 years old as it was so nice and clean I assumed it was brand new. This is a property I give the highest recommendation and kudos.

The Eliza Jane In The Unbound Collection By Hyatt – Menu with Prices – 315 Magazine St, New Orleans

Probably will get yelled at for the 4 star review. I’m tougher to please w/the NOLA hotels since I am a native. The hotel is beautiful w/historical significance! There’s a whole story about Eliza Jane in every room or you can just google it. We originally booked 1 night, Friday, June 28. Then my wife and I realized, over alcohol of course, that it was too nice of a hotel for just a night’s stay. We booked a second night and had a choice of a merged reservation, staying in the same room OR switching to a better room at a lower rate. Well, DUH, we took the better room at a lower rate. All I heard from everyone staying there was “This is my go to hotel when I return.” I didn’t hear anyone complain, but me. Remember, I’m a native NOLA, living in another state now. Valet parking is $43 w/tax a night and the garage is 5 blocks away. So allow 15-20 minutes to have your car retrieved for check out. When I arrived to check in I double parked on busy Magazine behind 2 vehicles that had their hazards flashing. I waited for the valet to show up for a good 5-10 minutes while my wife checked in. Still nobody showed up, now the traffic is getting stupid at rush hour. I called the front desk and explained the situation and was told to go around and park in front of those two cars. Once I did that the valet showed up and told me those cars are for departing guests. Um, how does one know that, especially if you’re a tourist? I know better NOT to leave a car double parked on busy Magazine Street during rush hour, much less anywhere in NOLA. The valet explained to me he was the only one at the stand and could not leave his post until another co-worker showed up. Nobody should have to wait on a busy street for a valet. I could’ve just parked up the street at the corner lot for that service. I believe the front desk guy’s name is Juan? My pet peeve in any room is how clean are the air vents! They were NOT clean! Takes 2 seconds to clean. My favorite item in the room was the shower curtain, makes me homesick, and a lamp located in the lounge of my second room. The beds are extremely comfortable in both rooms. I love the matching bath & sink faucets by Kohler and matching hardware for the window treatments. Yes, I’ll return!

Hyatt Centric Arlington Menu with Prices 1325 Wilson Blvd, Arlington

I stayed recently at the Hyatt Centric for 7 nights. It is an upscale hotel with a formal restaurant-City House and a lounge restaurant-Key Bridge Terrace. They have access to the Rosslyn Metro through their parking garage, valet parking and printed running routes for its guests who want to take a run in the morning. In the lobby, there are towels and bottles of water provided early morning for those who’ve been up and out. They also put out a tall water cooler with fresh flavored water (cucumber, lemon, etc.) to quench your thirst. The front desk staff are fantastic. Sophie, an Asst. Mgr., was the first person I met as I checked in. She was quick to confirm everything for my stay and kind as she listened to my story of why I was there (family member at Georgetown Hospital taking longer than expected to recover from surgery and I needed some place closer than Dumfries to stay). During my stay I had some odd requests (from needing a yellow highlighter to breaking a $20 into ones for tips, to having to extend my stay twice to calling for my car through valet) and each request was met with a smile. Allegra and Zenaida really came through!!!! On any given day, you might find Eyabu at the door ready to assist. I had a big, heavy carryall bag filled with my laptop, things for my Dad, etc. that I would have to take with me each day. Eyabu was so kind and always ready to help me if I needed. Kassie, Darryl, and Mebratie at valet ran a very professional service. I’d request my car in the morning, return in the afternoon with my dad to freshen up, have dinner, and then request the car to take him back to the hospital then back to hotel for the night. They remembered my name and my car after the first day and greeted me with warmth and concern for my sick family member. Personal service. My room was clean when I checked in and each day afterward. Yanet did a great job! I will be back!

Hilton San Diego Bayfront – Menu with Prices – 1 Park Blvd, San Diego

Every Labor Day weekend, our family stay at a hotel/resort. I’m not he biggest fan of the Hilton brand but I really like this property. The rates are always good because all the kids are back to school. I got 2 nights including self parking for $500 plus. I’ve stayed at Manchester Hyatt and Marriott Marquis but I prefer this this corner on the bay that the Hilton is located on. It’s across the street from Petco Park, walking distance to many restaurants along the harbor and the Gas Lamp district is across the street. When we stay at boutique hotels and higher tier hotels we never see kids. Over the weekend, my kids went to movie night at the pool, decorated cookies, and went to a water ballon toss. They love the pool slide. They met kids that told my sons their parents were doctors. I was wondering if their parents are doctors then why are they staying at the Hilton… There’s a Starbucks on site but it’s double the price of a regular Starbucks. On Sunday night, we ordered pizza from Uber eats and the kids watched fireworks from the room. We ate on the property the whole time and the food was all good. Late check out is 1 pm with Hilton Honors gold…

Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk – Menu with Prices – 123 Losoya St, San Antonio

Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk is an excellent property in the Hyatt Hotel portfolio. Located just across from the historic site of the Alamo and right alongside the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. The property is amazing. There is a beautiful water feature that runs throughout the lobby down to the lower river walk access. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very attentive to your needs. WiFi reception is terrible unless you’re in the lobby. Don’t expect to stream any movies while in your room. This hotel seems like it needs more elevators, or they need to respond faster. We stayed Thursday – Saturday. Elevator wait time unusually long for a week day. Hate to see it when it’s busy and fully booked. Parking This is a downtown hotel so like in most cities, parking is a small investment. Valet is over $50 a night with unlimited entry/exit usage. Self parking is $35.00 a night. The parking structure is just across the street. I chose valet just for the ease of parking. I have a full size truck and we purchased some items along the way that I stored in the covered bed of my truck. I wanted the security of the valet staff parking it on the first two floors. Cleanliness The hotel facilities were top notch. I judge a hotels sanitation level by its guest room and Lobby bathroom maintenance level. This one was spot on. The lobby rest room had clean floors, paper towels and soap were filled. You can tell it’s being monitored regularly. The guest rooms were exceptionally clean, with the exception of a hand towel that was presented with a dried up blood spot hanging from the rack. It was large enough that the laundry staff should have caught. Housekeeping in the rooms do a phenomenal job. Tip them well when you leave! Rooms The rooms themselves were premium! Hyatt did good for this site. Nice use of space and decent value for the price. Nice 70 inch tv in the room, But it doesn’t rotate quite enough to see it from the bed well. It’s ok, but could use about 10 more degrees of rotation. Local Channel selections are sad. We had a room with an inside view. We could hear the lounge singer at the bar all evening up until he left. Keep that in mind if you’re a lite sleeper or turn in early. The inside room view is spectacular though. The Riverwalk wall in the building is all glass. Lots of nice features in the rooms. One I really enjoyed, there is a nite light under the bed that is motion activated. So when you’re stumbling at night to use the bathroom you don’t have to disturb anyone. Room has decent fridge, coffee maker, drawer and closet space. No microwave in room. Local Restaurants When you arrive, find the concierge desk and ask about restaurant recommendations. Ask for Brandon, and he will hook you up. They will usually have some they work with and give you a referral card for a free appetizer or something. Lots of nice places within walking distance. Remember you’re in the heart of a tourist area so keep that in mind. We felt safe walking along the Riverwalk. It does get crowded and some parts are narrow. Challenging if you’re pushing a stroller. Overall It’s a great place to stay! Close to all the major sites downtown. You get what you expect to find at the Hyatt. This is a Five Star hotel with Five Star prices and value. I just think parking price is over the top. I paid $48 a day at an office building in the heart of “Downtown Los Angeles, California”. $56.00 seems very in reasonable!!! I took off a star for that. “Come on Mr. Hyatt, reconsider that cost…please”. This is San Antonio, Texas!!! Enjoy your stay!! Michael C. Georgetown,TX.

Hilton Garden Inn Colorado Springs Airport – Menu with Prices – 2035 Aerotech Dr, Colorado Springs

*Update to review* I had a very productive conversation with one of the mangers who has purview over customer relations. She addressed my concerns, as voiced below, and very politely apologized for the experience. Additionally, without making an excuse, she explained some of the circumstances that led to everything happening the way it did. I was and am very impressed with the response! Similarly, I am convinced that my experience at this hotel was a freak experience or the perfect storm. Knowing the caliber of management they have at this hotel and how they conduct business, I would stay at this hotel again. ________________________________________________________ My worst stay at a Hilton property yet! First and foremost, the property itself is very nice. The staff at the bar, in the kitchen, and the maid staff were extremely friendly and professional. The issue I had was with the front desk staff and their handling of select other guests that were staying at the hotel. During the first two nights of my stay, there was a junior softball tournament in town and a few of the teams were also staring at the Hilton Garden Inn by the airport. From the sounds of it, I had a couple of 12-year olds in the room directly above me. Between the running back and forth, jumping off the bed, and occasional loud yelling, it was difficult to get to sleep at night or stay awake in the morning. I contacted the front desk two different occasions and was told that a staff member would address the issue. Thankfully, most of the teams check-out out on Sunday morning. Sunday night I actually had a restful nights’ sleep without any loud noises coming from the upstairs room. Monday night I was not so fortunate… Monday afternoon/early evening an elderly man checked into the room next to mine. When I returned to the hotel after dinner the TV in the next room was blaring and the smell of cigarette smoke was strong in my room with had an adjoining door to the next room. Once again I contacted the front desk to raise their attention to the blaring TV and the person smoking cigarettes next door. It took 45 minutes to an hour before the TV was turned down. The next morning I had to fly out early. I was awakened by the loud TV once again, before my alarm, and the extremely strong smell of cigarettes once again. Thankfully I was checking out that morning. I brought the issue up again to the front desk attendant who nonchalantly said “I’m sorry about that” and proceeded to wish me a good day. Between the inability to handle the other guests and one employee saying that a Hilton hotel didn’t accept Hilton gift cards, I was left with the impression that the front desk staff were incompetent and unhelpful. From my previous stays at Hilton properties, I know this is the exception and not the rule. But I will not stay at this specific Hilton property ever again!

The Bistro ? Eat. Drink. Connect.® – Menu with Prices – 520 E Plume St, Norfolk

Long time VB resident now living in Pittsburgh, came back Mother’s Day weekend for my brothers graduation. Service is overall quite poor, room was big and decent for the price. We attempted an early check in because our flight got in early. They said they couldn’t do that and would give us a call when the room was ready. Ok, no problem. We went down to the beach and hung out and got some lunch, by the time we got back at 3:30 the room still wasn’t ready. After explaining that we had a graduation dinner at 5 and needed to get dressed ASAP they finally got us in our room sometime around 4. To their credit, they gave us 5000 Marriott points which I thought was a nice gesture. We were given a King Suite room which was quite spacious. It wasn’t the cleanest room and smelled of cigarettes, but otherwise seemed pretty good. Shower was completely unusable because the head was spraying water at high velocity onto the bathroom ceiling. Toilet clogged after flushing a single tissue down, with no plunger in sight. Valet parking is mandatory here, and the valet guys are the most courteous and professional staff out of the entire hotel. Unfortunately for them, the ATM inside the Marriott kept having service errors so I wasn’t able to withdraw cash to tip them with when I checked out. All in all, if you need a place to stay this will do. If you’re looking for something better I’d recommend the Hilton.
