The Funky Taco is a nice addition to Boise’s downtown restaurant scene, particularly on 8th Street. The interior is well done; bright colors, trendy hanging lightbulbs, a few cozy booths and tables. It’s not a large place, so on a Friday evening, we got the worst table right in front of the door. Service was wonderful – absolutely no complaints. The tacos are absolutely delightfully unique; unlike any tacos I’ve ever had anywhere else in the world. They are not cheap, though not overly expensive, either; the flavor and uniqueness are worth the $10 to $12 two-taco meal. I had the Piggy Stardust and my SO had the Macho. The Piggy Stardust was a party in my mouth; crunchy texture, spicy-yet-sweet flavor, and the pork was eloquently juicy. I tried his Macho and it, too, was perfection in a taco. If you like bland food, this is not the place for you. The well-decorated, beautifully presented portions were perfect for us, but we aren’t large portion people. Overall, I will definitely return to Funky Taco for a very unique, tasty taco treat.

Silvia’s Taqueria Menu with Prices 7301 Matlock Rd, Arlington

I give them a four because I did the math averaging what I would rate each of the three tacos I got and it came to an even 4. First taco, the corn El Pastor, no cilantro with onions, the sour cream, green sauce and red sauce. It was amazing a solid 5, I don’t like pork but I’d thought I would be adventurous and man am I glad I did. Flavorful and just Umm. Second taco Chicharron taco, the reason this rating isn’t a 5 because this thing was a two at best. Chicharron is supposed to be crispy pork skin or belly this was neither I don’t think it was like someone took pork fat and tried and failed to pan fry it. It was slimy and mushy and I knew the moment I touched it I was going to have a funky texture in my mouth and I came this close to not even eating it but I decide one bite wouldn’t kill me (If I stop reviewing after this review then tomorrow that assumption maybe wrong) I put the sour cream, green sauce, red sauce and I feel like wasted those delicious sauce it really was slimy and kind of just slipped down my throat, I couldn’t finish it. The third taco was easily my favorite would have given it a six but that would have been cheating. The beef fajita on flour it was really good with the sour cream, green sauce and red sauce. Also those sauces are to died for, next time I got in I think I’m going to see what it would take to get a bottle of the stuff (don’t think they will but I can try).

Taco Bamba Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 10629 Braddock Rd, Fairfax

Finally a decent taco place that wont have me going back to taco bell for my fix of tacos! Walking in, first thing to note is the blaring metal music. Not really a conversation friendly environment, but maybe that was the vibe they were going for? Tacos. I’m here to talk about the tacos. Had the taco bamba and chicharron and both of them had soft texture tortillas with healthy servings of meat inside each taco. The tacos were not salty at all, and they provide sauces on the side to spice up the experience depending on how daring you are! (You can ask for their hottest sauce) Bonus points for me were that no juices leaked out of the taco while I was eating it, which I dont know if it was intentional or not. Overall the tacos were good, but nothing amazing. Definitely could be a common taco stop for me due to convenience. ON A SIDE NOTE: My friend ordered their churros, and as soon as she took the first bite her face warped… Apparently she said it was WAY too sweet, so be careful if you are not fond of sweets!

The Tin Man Grill(Food Truck/Tacos) – Menu with Prices – 7767 Five Mile Rd, Cincinnati

Tin Man Grill Review Tacos are among the world’s most perfect food. The taco offers a culinary canvas of unlimited possibilities and incredible potential. Tacos, like pizza, can be be good even when they are bad. They can be authentic or creative but they are almost always delicious. Tin Man Grill, a food truck based in Anderson Township, is a revelation. While not authentic, you’ll want to head to Tacos Locos in a parking lot in Pleasant Ridge for the best authentic tacos in town, they are unique and delicious. Tin Man Grill is no ordinary food truck. Instead of being housed in something resembling a repurposed UPS truck, Tin Man is operating out of a gorgeous refurbished 1950’s era Spartan Manor camper. The shiny metal glistens in the sun, a shiny beacon summoning hungry diners. But this is not just a fancy trailer. As you approach you are tantalized by the unmistakable aroma of smoked meat. It fills the air around the silver trailer upping the anticipation. You see, Tin Man is serving delicious, fresh chicken and pork tacos smoked to perfection in dual Big Green Eggs. The results are stunning as the pulled meats are moist, flavorful, and infused with smoke. The menu is simple, but do not think that will make your decision easy. Grilled Pork Tacos. Pineapple pork tacos. Grilled strawberry chicken taco. Chicken avocado taco. And Sweet. Potato. Taco. Yes, Sweet. Potato. Taco. It’s as weird and delicious as it sounds. The smoked meats and tasty potatoes are paired with delicious, fresh, house-made toppings, salsas, veggies, sauces and cheese. Everything on the taco tastes clean, fresh, and serves to add to the flavor of the taco. Despite having strong flavors like pineapple, strawberry, and cilantro the flavor of the smoked meats still stands on its own. It’s evident that these recipes were carefully thought out to let every flavor work together and for each one to shine. I did not ask for any substitutions, nor would I recommend any unless of course you do not like a specific ingredient. I cannot stress how fresh and clean everything from Tin Man Grill tastes. It’s also worth noting that after eating here I felt great, not like eating a cheap, greasy Taco Bell taco. This is fresh, real food. It’s also worth noting that everything is prepared quickly. Often food trucks can take awhile as the foods are freshly prepared, but here the prep was fast and efficient and the result was delicious. Tin Man Grill is doing some interesting, compelling, and delicious things with the taco medium. I’d highly recommend checking them out if you enjoy tacos or just enjoy delicious food made by friendly folks, in a cool camper in a parking lot, office complex or festival near you.

Austin City Taco Co. – Menu with Prices – 517 University Dr, Fort Worth

Austin City Taco Co. is a new addition to the growing list of trendy and creative taco shops popping up in Fort Worth. All the descriptions of their tacos sounded exciting, and I ended up ordering a few to-go for lunch. The Revolution showcased their 12-hr brisket topped with some fried onion slices. The brisket was pretty lean but still smoky and flavor packed. The Midnight Craving was a breakfast taco packed full with eggs, potatoes, and brisket. The bacon jam made things a bit sticky and hard to hold but the flavors were spot on. My favorite taco had to be the State Fair, which had fried chicken and potatoes smothered in bacon and ranch. I loved this balance of salty and sweet flavors and found myself wanting a second round. Some of the tacos got a bit too soggy during my drive, so I would recommend dining in so that all the fried components are still crispy and you get to taste each taco at peak freshness. I think the prices are a bit steep for specialty tacos, but they were definitely filled to the brim with meat and toppings and I was surprisingly full after only two or three tacos. Some of the taco combinations were pretty creative and I’m glad I got to try some of their unique offerings.

LA VILLA Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 12694-12706 Northlake Blvd, West Palm Beach

The best part about my parents moving way out to Loxahatchee is driving by this taco truck (trailer) when I visit them. They make all the Mexican staples, tacos, tortas, burritos, plus some more unique items you’ll never see on menus at chain Tex-Mex restaurants. They have a large variety of filling options, including some unusual ones I had to google. I’ve tried the asada, carnitas and pollo. All were solid. The reason this place gets 5 stars is simple: they press and cook fresh tortillas to order. I’ve never had this outside California. It means the tacos take a minute more than most trucks, but it’s well worth it. They also make fresh red and green salsas that are equally delicious. It may be out of the way, but if you’re a taco lover like me, it’s worth the drive.

Tacos El Gordo – Menu with Prices – 689 H St, Chula Vista

While planning my vacation down to San Diego, I had at least 5 people tell me to try Tacos El Gordo. I was hesitant as it wasn’t anywhere near where I was staying, and so did I really want to travel even further for some tacos? Let me tell you, the hype around these tacos are REAL. No matter where you are in San Diego, you have to come give these tacos a try. The ordering system here is a bit confusing if you’re new here. Basically, there are multiple lines based on which type of meat you want (pork, beef, steak, etc.). You go to the line for the meat that you want to order. The confusing part is that the most popular meat which is the spicy pork, is closest to the door. When it’s busy, this line will stretch outside the doors, and so anyone that isn’t aware of their line system will think this is their only line. This will result in many people waiting unnecessarily long amounts of time without knowing that there’s other options. I was someone who wasn’t aware of their line system and so I waited incredibly long outside of the restaurant until I understood there were other options once I got inside. Knocking out 1 star due to this. Once I finally got my spicy pork tacos though (1 hour later), they made it all worth the wait. These are by far the best tacos I’ve had in my LIFE. The meat is amazing, tortillas on point, and the special sauce they use is to die for. Seriously, I would’ve bought a bottle of whatever sauce they used for the spicy pork tacos. I didn’t get to try the other options but I understand that they use different sauces for each taco. Highly recommend the spicy pork tacos though if you’re ok with waiting. Overall, be prepared for a long wait regardless of what time you come (I came at 10pm on a Saturday night and it was crazy packed). I do wish they made the ordering system a little clearer for new customers, but at the rate they sell their tacos, I don’t think they feel the need to change anything!

Oaxaquena Triqui Menu with Prices 77 N Lake Ave, Albany

This was our first visit. So we kept things fairly basic. We got an order of chips and salsa and a side of spicy green mole’ sauce. Which was pretty spicy but not blow your taste buds out spicy. Good spicy that you can still taste it. We both wanted tacos so that’s what we got. She got the beef tongue (which were super rich and beefy tasting and very tender) the Chicarones which for my taste not cripsy so i could have never gotten past the texture but she said they were good but very heavy. And as an extra she got a grasshopper taco, I said it grasshopper and to be honest they weren’t bad. Smokey and crispy. Far better than I would have thought. I have had beef tongue before so I kept it simple 3 chicken and 3 pork tacos. Both of which were tasty moist and tender. The chicken had the typical subtle flavor but when i added lime and the very spicy red mole they were very good. For me pork tacos are always first choice. .and they were nice and spicy and I just added a squeeze of lime. We were sufficiently satisfied but they have Churros and ice cream. The Churros were I would say just good they were filled with Leche’ which was a little weird for me but still good I generally am a purest with most foods simple is usually better for me. The ice cream I didn’t like I think it was passion fruit so no go for me. My wife ate the ice cream again simple would have been better vanilla would have been perfect. Of course I also had my Jarritos Lime soda which I love. Definitely looking forward to going back again soon. I would say for Albany a solid 4 star place.

Gueros Tacos – Menu with Prices – 835 301 Blvd E, Bradenton

The Elote is amazing, if you have never had it, you should most certainly try it!! They also have ð???ð???Taco Tuesdaysð???ð??? they do 6 tacos for $5. I Give it

Taqueria burro loco – Menu with Prices – 4014 Cherry St, Winston-Salem

We got the al pastor tacos today at lunch and the pork was savory good with the right amount of crunchy bits. Mmmm… crunchy bits. The food was fresh and tasty. Four tacos for $5 and loaded with meat, onions, cilantro and two kinds of spicy sauce. There wasn’t a line, but the traffic coming in and out of the parking lot was nice and steady. They now have a picnic table set up in the shade under some trees and also a bench nearby. The owner is super nice and very hard-working. The taco truck is situated over to the side of the parking lot now, and although I’ve never seen the parking lot filled up, there seem to be plenty of spaces as people complete their order and leave. They are located in the parking lot on the corner(-ish) of Polo and Cherry Street…. more on Cherry Street.

El Grito Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 120 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Madison

Seriously good food, and one of my favorite carts in Madison!! They usually feature three types of tacos on their menu: two different meats and one vegetable taco. I love their meat (brisket, pork and chicken) tacos but be sure to NOT EXCLUDE that vegetable (sweet potato, roasted carrot, and cauliflower) taco! Sounds strange, but they’ve got me hooked on that veggie taco. I always order one of each, no matter what’s featured that day. They use fresh, farm ingredients, with bold and spicy flavors. Their habanero sauce is homemade and definitely brings the heat. If they ever decide to bottle that sauce, I’d be the first to pre-order a case of datt!!!! Sometimes they have house-made drinks, like horchata or watermelon agua. Both will quench your thirst and satisfy your taste buds!

Bandido Taqueria Mexicana – Menu with Prices – 905 E Liberty St, Louisville

I keep forgetting to take pictures so close your eyes while you read this and use your imagination. I got the fish taco (fried), Maui Wowie (el pastor), and the carnitas tacos, plus an original elote. The tacos were good street tacos on small corn tortillas, they only have corn taco tortillas. Each taco had a slaw mixture that complimented the protein. The fish was a nice battered fillet that fit well in the tortilla. The el pastor taco could have used more meat and pineapple, the pork seemed a little under seasoned. I did really like the condiment bar. The serrano and habanero salsas had great flavor. You can actually taste the name sake pepper in each without them burning out your pallet. The pickled onions were superb, thin slices of habanero provided a nice secondary flavor with a kick. The best for last is the elote. Excellent ear of corn with large juicy kernels, coated in Mexican table cream, chili powder, cheese, and with a twist a red “enchilada” sauce. All on an easy to consume stick, it was my favorite. I love knowing I can grab some quick street tacos during my lunch break.

Agave & Rye – Menu with Prices – 3582 US-27, Lexington

I don’t hate the place but I don’t particularly see myself excited to go back either. We ended up here after a morning of hiking. The menu seemed legit and I couldn’t wait to try some of the tacos out. The atmosphere is loud but cozy. It would be the perfect place to visit if you’re in a small group. We started out going with chips and queso. We added the spicy andouille to the queso. It made for a tasty appetizer. If I make it back here, I’m going to give their other salsas a try. The first thing you’ll notice here are the taco prices. They run with the EPIC taco idea. You can choose from various tacos… from chicken to fish, to things gamier. There are plenty of options and they’re not shy about piling the ingredients on their tacos. The main problem I see is the taste/ingredient flavor distribution. It needs to be perfect. The cheapest taco is 4.25, most of them ranging from 4.50 – 7.50, and the most expensive… 9.50! 9.50 for 1 taco! (I ordered it but more on that later). They also have entree bowls and if I make it back there, I’m going to skip the tacos and give one of those a try. Our Order: The Sensei Taco – Soy and ginger kangaroo tenderloin, sticky orange rum glaze, crispy rice noodles, fresh bibb lettuce, spicy peanut chili oil and shaved green onion. I love Kangaroo. I’ve had it on other tacos. I’ve had a few kangaroo burgers(which are delicious). I love it. The problem with this taco is that you couldn’t just take a bite of the kangaroo. You bite and the entire kanga-strip comes out with one bite. And yes, these tacos are epic but most of the ingredients end up wasted by falling out… especially when you’re fighting to take smaller bites of tough kangaroo meat. I could see this taco being good. I understand the price tag(kangaroo meat is expensive). For 9.50 and my experience, I’d tell everyone to order any other taco except for this one. The All-Nighter Taco – Duck confit, garlic rice, green onions, sweet & sour sauce, and crispy duck skin. This was the best of the tacos on this day. The flavors were on an equal playing field. So there is proof that these tacos are delicious when they’re done right. The Snitch Taco – Jamaican jerk mahi-mahi, buttered rice, caramelized pineapple, pico, and sour cream. This was good. I’m used to that jerk flavor on chicken, pork, or even jackfruit. I haven’t experienced that flavor with fish. My only complaint with this taco was the pico and sour cream… the pico was fresh so that’s a plus. The taco had way too much pico and sour cream on it. That’s 85% of what I could taste. For now, my ranking sits at 3 stars. Not a bad spot but also not something I’m dying to go back to.
