The sushi here wasn’t that great, and the service was among some of the worst. The only reason that I did not give this place one star instead was because a lot of the non-sushi food that I saw going to other tables actually looked pretty good. Based on my terrible experience here I would not go back to sit down and try it, but MAYBE would someday think about ordering it to go. Came here with a group, there were six of us total. The place wasn’t super busy and we were seated right away. Another group of six sat down next to us a little after we did. The place started to fill up, but there were still open tables. Also, it was lunchtime so being moderately full shouldn’t be that surprising. We said we needed a bit longer to be ready to place our order, but then our server disappeared on us and we had to wait a long time to order despite obviously looking around trying to find our server. Finally we ordered, and pretty much all of us ordered sushi… since we were at a sushi restaurant. That was apparently a mistake. I watched multiple people getting their food who sat down well after us. Some people were getting food before we even got to place our order! The table of six next to us, who sat down after us, also got their food well before we did. It took an incredibly long time for our sushi to come out, and when it did most people’s orders were wrong. Our food did not come out at the same time, and one person in our group didn’t get his sushi until after we’d gotten our checks and finished eating. We were cutting it really close on time and thankfully had a little bit of an extended lunch or we never would have made it back to work in time. It was an incredibly frustrating lunch. I ordered scallop sashimi and three salmon maki rolls. The scallops were pretty decent, no complaints there really. I wish I could have gotten the scallops as nigiri without the rice, but for whatever reason that was not an option. The salmon maki rolls came out as inside-out rolls, which was incredibly weird. Usually plain salmon maki rolls don’t come inside-out and that’s why I order three. If I had known it was going to so big, I would have adjusted my order. To top it off, the fish wasn’t even that good. I ended up passing my third roll around the table. If you’re going to make a plain maki roll with one ingredient inside out, I’d think you should mention that before someone orders three!

AYCE Sushi SCM – Menu with Prices – 3392 S Bristol St, Santa Ana

Brand new sushi joint that just opened up in the South Coast area! That obviously meant that I had to check it out as a fan of AYCE sushi. There was hardly a wait time when I went as it recently opened and not a lot of people know about it. The price is a little more expensive compared to other places, but I guess it’s worth it if you live in the area. I think dinner was about $29 for the weekend and if you wanted to have access to sashimi then it would be about $34. The menu itself is decent as you can choose from appetizers, rolls, sushi, and hand rolls. I tried a bunch of different items and the highlights are as follows: Beef gyoza: super crispy and has a juicy and flavorful inside Crawfish roll: pretty tasty and you get a good amount of crawfish on top of your rolls Salmon sushi: you get a good amount of salmon and not too much rice. The salmon itself didn’t taste fishy, but it didn’t have much of a taste as well. I wish they had options like seared, garlic, or even ponzu salmon. Eel sushi: highly recommend if you like eel! The sushi itself is not overloaded with sauce to the point where it is overbearing. Overall impression of the place is that it is decent, but there is definitely room for improvement. The Tokyo roll is literally just a California roll with tuna on top, which basically resembled the tuna sushi I got. Having more flavorful selections for the sushi would also help justify the price for AYCE. I don’t think they had some classical rolls like dragon roll which was surprising. Service was pretty good as the staff is attentive although some of the workers do not know how to identify or describe the rolls. It would be helpful if visitors were informed of which rolls were which as they tend to come in waves after you place your order. Check this place out if you’re in the area and craving for some sushi! My overall rating would be a 3.5 if I had that option.

Orient Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 1455 W Elliot Rd #105, Gilbert

WORST SUSHI PLACE EVER! HORRIBLE SERVICES! The sushi here is so awful and tastes disgusting . My friend and I ordered all you can eat sashimi and sushi rolls but the sashimi have really bad quality. We ordered the salmon and it didn’t taste fresh and worse than the salmon you purchased in the marketplace. They cut the tuna in very tiny pieces which is hard to eat and look unappetizing. We also ordered the tootsie rolls and dynamite seafood but we couldn’t eat it because the rolls have a weird smell of old spoil food. More than that, the server was also have bad attitudes when we ordered many rolls. He walked back and forth looking and monitored our table all the time to the point that it made the dining experience so uncomfortable. THe server did not even mind his own business and even forbid me to share food with my friends cuz we have different meal! Imagine How horrible is that ?? since when you have the right to tell us what to do with our meal seriously. It feels like he threaten us with his face and attitudes. I’m even more frustrated at the server and owner here to the point that when we told the owner that the food was spoiled he denied it and so ignorant and even said that we couldn’t finish the food because we were full but it’s not the truth since we would go thousand mile for food and even pay extra for it but it is actually garbage and very disgusting to eat. They wanted to charge us for the left over food and said it was our first time there so they did not charge but we go there so many times before! Very disappointed!! Wasted $60 of my life to get the worst food! My friend even got sick and kept vomiting after eating here. Very bad experience and never come back here!! Seriously the frys marketplace has cheaper and even fresher sushi than this place! Save your time and go somewhere else!

Sushi Time Towa – Menu with Prices – 54 W Montgomery Cross Rd, Savannah

Not bad! Going to add this to the very short list of decent sushi spots in Savannah. I have been here twice and had tasty sushi both times. The sake is hot, the fish tastes great, and the sushi selection is impressive. I just spent over $50 there and did not feel any regret. The sushi rolls are small, though, so I had to add more maki to my order to feel satisfied. The customer service is iffy. The waitresses are extremely nice, but they seem overwhelmed. The first time I went, I was in a large party of about 30 people in the back room. The restaurant only provided two waitresses and they were forgetting orders and mixing up bills all over the place. This place also seems to bring in the sushi chefs’ friends and families to hang out during dinnertime. This second time around, a group came in that was clearly friends (or relatives) of some of the staff. They allowed their small children to sit at the sushi counter and ding the ‘order-up’ bell repeatedly, non-stop. After about 10 minutes of this, the kids got to clicking their chopsticks against the wooden surface of the sushi bar for quite some time. The sushi chefs were distracted, the waitresses were trying to make their way to other customers as children ran around, and it just sort of turned into a noisy daycare center. Besides all that, I was quite happy with the sushi.

Nori & Wasabi – Menu with Prices – 3109 N Halsted St, Chicago

I don’t leave very many Yelp reviews…but this place is an absolute gem and I can’t help but keep recommending it to my friends! I found this place three weeks ago, and I’ve been back once every single week. They have exceptional service and excellent sushi. The owners are very considerate, constantly checking in to make sure everything is good at the beginning, middle, and end of your visits. The establishment is always kept very clean as well. The sushi is well portioned in fish-to-rice ratio and the fish is incredibly fresh. My girlfriend couldn’t help commenting on how good the salmon was, and she can be particular when it comes to how fish is prepared. The first time I went, another table mistakenly took one of my rolls as it was coming out and I was given their order by mistake; the owner graciously offered a replacement roll on the house. We got two combo sets which included salad, as well as three variations of rolls to try. The second time, I called to put in a takeout order, and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. It was ready when I went into the store about ten minutes later. This third time was also great. Some of the rolls to definitely get are the Martini, 911, Brownie (the crispy salmon skin and eel combo is killer), and Hamachi Scallion. 10/10 would recommend for great value and tasty sushi.

SUSHI HOUSE Menu with Prices 10955 Jones Bridge Rd Suite 112, Alpharetta

Sushi House is a long-time mainstay of Jones Bridge Road. It’s been there for many years. I used to go there in high school with my friend whenever the restaurant she worked at (Hachi Hachi Hibachi, closed now for over 10 years) down the street was closed. As such I’ve been able to see the progression of the restaurant such as the expansion. I recently came for dinner with my mom and dad. The expansion is pretty nice, there are some “booth” type seating areas, regular tables, and bar seating. The reason I put “booth” in quotations is that it’s not actually a booth, it’s a regular table and regular detached seats with a sort of enclosure around the area. Either way, it is nice semi-private seating. There was one other table seated at 4:45 PM on a Sunday, and while we were eating 2 more customers came in. The sushi here has always been nice and fresh and tasty. However what I definitely remember from before and after the renovation is the prices. This used to be a cheaper option for good quality sushi. The sushi prices have gone way up. I’m not talking a dollar or two per roll, I mean that there are legit several rolls on the menu that are $16 each. EACH! In light of that, my family decided to order strictly from the “classic sushi” menu which is more or less plain rolls with a few that are a little fancy. I also ordered a miso soup which was very good. My sushi order was 1 Alaska roll (salmon and avocado), 1 spicy tuna roll, and salmon nigiri. The salmon is exquisite, very fresh and buttery tasting. The spicy tuna roll was also very tasty but I would have liked a little less mayo in the roll. My mom got an Alaska roll and salmon sashimi and one more roll that I can’t quite place, and my father got a salmon skin roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, and a shrimp roll. They also split an order of edamame with each other. We all enjoyed our food, but for 3 of us our total was $85 before tip. This is the same price we would have paid for an AYCE place a few miles down the road. Overall, the food and service were good, but man that price!

Hana Yori Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 12226 Beach Blvd Unit#3, Jacksonville

Last night I had the pleasure of trying Hana Yori Sushi and Grill. I’m not a huge sushi fan, but my friend suggested I try them out. We were seated close to the sushi bar. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She was also a big help with my sushi order as I’m very picky lol. The only raw sushi I will eat is smoked salmon. All the others are too strong and fishy smelling to me. The smoked salmon was superb! Although I’m not a huge fan of the seaweed wrap but I still enjoyed it. I also had the onion soup and salad with ginger dressing. I do not like ginger, however I make an exception as the combination of ginger and I think some type of citrus is perfect! I didn’t realize when I ordered my sushi they had some cooked sushi options on the menu. I tried my friends fried sushi and it was great! I also tasted the steak he ordered for his daughter and it was cooked so nicely that it was like butter melting in my mouth. If you like sushi or hibachi style cooking this is the spot for you!

Sabaidee Sushi & Thai Menu with Prices 193 Lark St, Albany

Now that this restaurant has been open for about six months, I thought I’d stop in for an early weekend dinner, now that I’d heard they have some sushi on the menu. First, the bad news: NO SEATING AT SUSHI BAR (photo). The space for bar seating is instead used to cram in 19 tables. Luckily, there was only one other patron in the restaurant during my visit, and we both sat on the long wooden bench against one wall. I don’t want to imagine how “cozy” this atmosphere would be, if only half of the tables were occupied. I don’t think they have their liquor license yet, so at least there won’t be drunk guests spilling over each other on the tablecloths and napkins. I looked through the menu as the host/ server/ chef/ brought over tea-bag tea. Although disappointed by the very limited nigiri selection, I was able to order my usual introduction of a couple of maki and a handful of nigiri, despite a mix-up in the initial order, where I hoped to try the temaki. While waiting, I looked around at the Thai decor – a little kitsch, but not overdone. The chef, dressed in sweat pants and a white t-shirt with a couple of stains, brought out a thin miso soup, strangely created without adding any tofu. I found the chef with an overly enthusiastic personality, but uneven sushi presentation (photo). The two-plate plating, with a little decoration was not unattractive. The rice itself was very lightly seasoned, much less then I prefer. The maki was not bad, and with 10 pieces each for the eel cucumber and the spicy salmon cucumber avocado, it seemed a bit too much. Unfortunately, the salmon maki was covered in a mayo sauce, which I have never really enjoyed. Personal preference. The nigiri, was a bit sloppier. The gunkenmaki masago ended up with roe all over the plate. I have found unagi usually is prepared with a small strip of nori wrapped around the eel on top of the rice, but not here. The strangest was the hamachi – one of the pieces was actually tough to chew. The taste was not bad, but that is a most unique texture. I don’t think I want to repeat that. I hope they can improve, and I’ll return in a bit. 2019 07 06. S08.

Rice & Roll – Menu with Prices – 234 Queen St, Ottawa

I had a late lunch here recently (around 2pm on a weekday). The place is small but has a lot of character and the couple working there are incredibly nice. The food is also fresh and delicious. I love maki rolls, but cannot eat sesame seeds, so I can never eat those pre-made packages, I need to have them made especially for me. I told them about my sesame seed issue and they said it was not a problem, they would make me my rolls without them. I got the Combo C ($6.99) (3 California rolls, 3 Spicy Salmon rolls and 6 Hosomaki (chef’s choice, I got 3 cucumber and 3 crab stick)) and a bottle of Orangina ($2.50). The maki were delicious. All the ingredients were fresh and the rice was expertly seasoned. The rice to other ingredients ratio was perfect and the rolls were a good size. I was offered a free bowl of miso soup and it was excellent. It was not too salty which is my most common complaint with miso soup. It didn’t have that much seaweed or tofu chunks in it though. However, miso soup is all about broth so I can’t fault them for that. The takeout menu says that the miso they use is certified organic. The place is very small, there are 2 round tables of 2, and a counter that seats 4. It’s more a takeout kind of place. The place is also very cozy and decorated with all sorts of Asian knick-knacks. It has a very warm feeling to it. The couple working there I’m sure are husband and wife. Their interactions with each other were very cute. When the man went to make my rolls, the woman reminded him “no sesame seeds.” They are very polite and nice. It is too bad that I do not work nor live around this place, because I would like to eat here more often. I will come back when I am in the area.

Sushi District – Menu with Prices – 488 E 17th St B105, Costa Mesa

Had really high expectations for Sushi District upon reading the reviews. But was very disappointed by the sushi. I have been on the a sushi craze lately, trying out sushi from various restaurants in the area and the sushi here is probably the worst of the bunch. There’s a lot of great things about this place but the sushi didn’t impress. It’s a no for me dog ? Okay lemme start by saying what this place is doing right. The rolls and appetizers were excellent! I feel if I came here for those I would give this place a full mark. But there’s sushi in the name of this restaurant and their sushi was really whack man…or woman… or nonbinary… PERSON OKAY! The rolls were excellent and the portion was a lot! So that’s good. The appetizer I had was the fried oysters, which was delicious. The only thing is the fish here isn’t on par to what I normally eat. So rolls that has raw fish in it or on it, wasn’t that great. Now… Onto the sushi. This place has the poorest quality sushi I have ever ate in my life. I can go to some cheap sushi spot for $2 sushi that will obliterate these sushi to smithereens. The quality was poor, the knife skill is also poor. I have some pictures of the sushi and you CAN NOT lie to me and say that these sushi are one of the most beautiful sushi you have ever laid eyes on. I didn’t even wanna snap these ? The knife skill of whoever made my sushi that night was very sad. Cuts everywhere in order to cut sinews from the thick and clumsy cut of tuna. Salmon quality looks sickening. Like the salmon had the some AIDS or something. Why it look like that tho??? Amaebi! My favorite! Why was it flipped upside down? Trynna look like Shamu waving at the crowds or something. The staff here are nice. Our server noticed that my friend was having trouble chewing the tuna. I woulda just ignored it, but they remade another batch for us. It was still poor quality but it’s the thought that counts??? Their water is good tho… When I have to say their water is good it means I’m trying to kinda hide the fact that the review was savage. I don’t want to give bad reviews, but it’s important for business to learn what’s up… If I had sushi only then this place would have got 0 star review. But, the staff, rolls and appetizers gave them 2 stars. From my experience, this place is a hard recommendation for me. Maybe if you weren’t into sushi then this place offers a selective menu with great food and lemon water. Premium sushi price for very very pitiful sushi quality.

KAPPO IRIFUNE – Menu with Prices – 1231 Cabrillo Ave #107, Torrance

This was the worst dining experience of the year. I was quite excited to have a family reunion here after reading many positives reviews. However, this restaurant came nowhere close to meeting my expectations. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. The server seated us inside a private room. The first red flag came up when I asked the server for recommendations. She responded, “I actually don’t know the menu well but I can go ask for you.” So my family just ordered on a whim. The appetizers came out about 30 minutes later. While I thought the food took a little longer, everything was ‘alright’ until then, even though the servers never checked up on us or refilled our water/drinks. We had to wait about 20 minutes more for our sushi. When the food finally came out, we found out that each order of sushi–$4 to $8 each–was only one piece. Honestly, I have never seen this system before besides for more expensive sushi like toro, bluefin, etc. We were pretty unhappy knowing that it would take some time for us to order and receive more food. It had already been almost an hour; sushi does not generally take this long to prepare even more so when the restaraunt is empty. Since the food was not enough to feed us, we decided to order another round of sushi with some rolls and udons. The sushi came out after another 45 mins. However, the udons and rolls were missing. By the time we were finishing up with the second round of sushi, we decided to leave and asked the server to cancel our food. The server told us that the rolls are prepared and coming out but that she would cancel the udons since they have not started preparing them yet. I was baffled at this point. Seriously, what were you guys doing for almost an hour? To top things off, it took another twenty minutes to bring our bill, which we had to initiate. The bill was wrong; they did not charge us for the sushi. I honestly wanted to just pay and leave at this point but told the server that they had undercharged us. It took the server another twenty minutes to fix our bill, which costed $200 more than the first. I did not enjoy my experience at Kappo Irifune, which lasted about two hours. The food was average and the server checked up on us only once during the entire meal. We literally had to walk outside the room to ask the server for anything. Please spend your precious money and time elsewhere. I will never be coming back.

Sushi Nishi Ya – Menu with Prices – 1712 Victory Blvd, Glendale

Omakasi w/ no regrets. Such an amazing experience. No fake talk, trying to act fancy – simple, sit down, eat, enjoy, eat some more and make plans to come back. Tuna Sushi, Albacore Sushi,Salmon Sushi, Salmon Egg Sushi, Sweet Shrimp Sushi, Uni – Just to name a few – and each one prepared perfectly. Rice was prepared well, great amount of vinegar and you’re told when to use soy sauce (the taste of each piece is so good, you’ll regret taking away from it with soy). The Uni was my absolute favorite- probably some of the best I’ve ever had, and I’m not usually a fan of skin or egg sushi but both were delicious. We were also served three different hand rolls, not as good as the sushi itself but still great with the perfect ratio. The price can get high – but you pay for what you get, you also have the option of ordering yourself at a table but you’d be making a mistake. When it comes to sushi, especially at a place where the chef takes pride in his work – you want to trust the chef.

Kakurega: Sushi Tapas Sake – Menu with Prices – 2574 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa

I’ve been on the hunt for good affordable sushi in the OC area and as of today Kakurega is the best one I’ve found. My only expectations from a sushi joint is fresh fish, good ratio/portions and reasonable prices. Kakurega meets all those requirements! They serve both traditional sushi/nigiri as well as some more hipster versions of sashimi. We ordered all the usual fish picks: bluefin toro, yellowtail, yellowtail toro, salmon, scallop, eel, albacore. We also got spicy tuna and salmon hand rolls and the bluefin special sashimi thinking it would just be slices of bluefin by itself. Turns out the special sashimi came with the bluefin on a little cucumber “flower” and a little bit of fresh wasabi. I wasn’t a fan of the cucumber presentation or serving method as it took away from the bluefin, but the bluefin was average anyways. After seeing how the special sashimi came out, we asked the server if they had regular salmon sashimi (off the menu) and she was able to get us 4 slices on the side, no cucumbers. I forgot to mention rice here is not very good: quite flakey/hard and falls apart when you pick up the sushi. It was noticeable but not so much that it took away from the fish. Out of all the fish, I think the yellowtail toro was by far the best. I would definitely also ask the server for orders of sashimi off the menu; don’t opt for the special sashimi. In addition to fish, we also ordered the clam appetizer which was very tasty and fresh! The clams (probably 20 or so in one order) came in a salty buttery broth which was delicious. I wanted to drink the broth but it would have been a bad idea, all that butter. Overall I’m so glad I came by Kakurega and found a sushi place I’d return to in OC! 4 stars as the fish was very good, but still not comparable to Little Tokyo.
