I read reviews but never write them… until now. Do yourself a favor and take a trip to this amazing little gem. I had the best, most deliciously, amazing Jerk Chicken. It was tender, moist and full of flavor, it literally fell off the bone. The Red Beans and Rice were delicious too! My son had the Curry Chicken and a side of Greens. We were arguing over who’s was better because we both loved our meals so much. And… it doesn’t stop at the food… the people are extremely kind, friendly and accomodating. This place is an absolute home run. If you are a fan of the southern style “meat and two (or three) sides” this is definitely the place for you!

Josanne?s homestyle cooking – Menu with Prices – 3449 Buckhorn Dr Ste 100, Lexington

My son and daughter-in-law live in the Buckhorn neighborhood and they were talking about how good Josannes chicken is. I love small places so I thought I would give it a try. Who doesnt like Southern cooking? So after a long hot, humid day at work I stopped in . I was sooo looking forward to a good fried chicken meal. The nice lady at the counter was very friendly. It smells great in there, and now I’m starving. So I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal. I inquired what 3 pieces are included. She told me that it comes with a breast, a wing and a leg. I’m not a leg fan so I asked to sub a wing for the leg. She kindly told me I could have any 3 pieces I want but they are out of breasts! I was crushed. Its 430 on Friday night…and theres no breasts? I almost left but I really wanted to try the greens, so I got the catfish meal with cabbage and greens. While waiting I asked about purchasing a soda so I asked for a Pepsi. Nope, they are out. Ugh…. Disappointed, I got my dinner and headed home. I got home to discover the catfish doesnt come with tarter sauce! UGH…..maybe they were out. SOOOO…Josannes gets a 3 from me this time. The catfish..plain…was good along with both sides but I was hungry for chicken. I’ll wait a couple of weeks and try them one more time. I just don’t feel like you should be out of food and drinks going into the weekend. Js

Cahawba House – Menu with Prices – 31 S Court St, Montgomery

We tried Cahawba House since it was conveniently located around museums, we gave it a try. The interior is like rustic country style while looking very modern. The interior is kind of small, but we came at 11:30 when there was a good amount of people and it wasn’t crowded. The staff is super friendly, and we had so many waitresses come by to see if we needed anything. We both got the meat and 3 and together, our meals cost about $20. We got so much food that we could have made a second meal out of it or shared. We didn’t wait long for our food, and it was super fresh. I have lived in the south my entire life, and it was some of the best fried chicken and coleslaw I have ever had. It’s better southern cooking that most country buffets I’ve been too. I loved that they have local items for sale. I found a cute, homemade magnet for my mom and it was $8. It was a great item for a tourist, but it was well-made and local. Any time I come to Montgomery, this resturant is going to be on the top of my “To visit” list!

Wild Chicken – Menu with Prices – 11039 Lee Hwy, Fairfax

Wild Chicken serves some of the best meals in Fairfax. The service is very fast for what you get, which is a great deal of top quality food at a reasonable price. Wild Chicken serves Peruvian style dishes in a friendly, efficient, and helpful atmosphere. I usually order a Wild Chicken wrap and it is a terrific sandwich. I went to Wild Chicken with my girlfriend and ordered chicken skewers, served with Peruvian style potatoes (delicious) and corn on the cob. I do not know how they prepare the chicken for those skewers, but it turned out very well. The chicken skewers was one of the best meals I have ever had. The meat was incredibly tender and perfectly spiced. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great food that hits the spot, in a location that not many people know about yet.

WHOS Gluten Free – Menu with Prices – 80 Mallory Ave, Jersey City

My mom was diagnosed with celiac in the ice age. Okay, maybe not the ice age, but she was diagnosed by Dr. Haas. Anyway, I told her I was taking her to a gluten free cafe and she got SO excited. When I looked up the distance, I could have sworn it said only 2 miles away and we were like, oh, no big deal, we’ll walk… well, 4 miles later we finally got to Whos Gluten Free. Opps. The staff at Whos Gluten Free is Fantastic. We walked in at 3:30 and the staff informed us the kitchen was closed because they close at 4. Oh. They had some broccoli soup still. We bought a whole bunch of goodies and the soup. The soup was delicious, nice and hot and with gluten free croutons! The goodies. Let’s forget about the gluten free part for a second. That nutella sandwich cookie. wholy Whos! (Yeah, I went there). That cookie was amazing. This is also the FIRST time in my LIFE I could share my desserts with my mom. Everything we got was so good. It didn’t even taste gluten free! The staff was so friendly, nice and accommodating. My mom can’t wait to go back! She already has her next “to try” items picked out. She wanted to go back the next day, but she said she would settle for at least a few days. And not to worry, next time we plan to be there bright and early, and not right before closing time.

Full Moon Bar-B-Que – Menu with Prices – 7660 Eastchase Pkwy, Montgomery

Well, here’s the thing. The food is totally okay. It wasn’t awful and it wasn’t amazing. I got the fried catfish with collard greens and Mac n cheese. The breading on the catfish was thick and very crunchy, much unlike the loved thin cornmeal batter I was expecting. It almost resembles the breading of a chicken Parmesan dish. It wasn’t terrible but again, not amazing. The greens were good, had a good flavor, and the Mac was fine. Not disappointing but I didn’t finish it which I think speaks for itself. My husband got the chicken and pulled pork and the chicken had great flavor but was incredibly dry. We were the only car in line and it took probably ten minutes to get our food, which can be argued is better if they’re cooking it on the spot but dang… the service was great though, everyone was very polite. Okay the kicker. THE PRICE! We paid over $35 for our meal and the portions were not generous. That’s outrageous for fast food but for southern food?! We won’t be back.

Kinlaw’s Welcome Grill – Menu with Prices – 1816 Sapona Rd, Fayetteville

Heavens to Betsy! Bitten by the food love bug once again. Looking to enjoy a meal where every day salt of the earth people eat? Welcome to Kinlaw’s y’all! Here you’ll find every bit as an authentic southern dining experience as you’ll find anywhere in the country. Kinlaw’s Welcome Grill is a cafeteria style eatery located behind the actual market. Nothing fancy, just insanely good homestyle southern favorites at an even more insanely low price. Meat, 2 sides, hush puppies, and a drink for $7 even. I don’t play with my fried chicken….and this is easily one of the best I’ve had. Crispy, juicy, flavorful. The mashed potatoes? Hands down the absolute best. Kinlaw’s welcome grill is everything I love about southern food. It brings people of all walks of life together in a friendly atmosphere, around a table filled with the most satisfying cuisine known to man.

Portis Kountry Kitchen II – Menu with Prices – 615 N Upper Broadway # B, Corpus Christi

Do not be deceived by the hard to find, old looking, “where am I!?,” restaurant. This place is well worth the walking around (it’s in the basement by the way, if you can’t find it). I pretty much tried everything. And everything was amazing. Southern comfort food at its best: -Fried catfish. Battered to perfection, delicious, giant piece. -Baked chicken. I don’t even eat chicken, but had to try it, and it was juicy, well seasoned, and expertly cooked. -Corn bread. I’m certain it has crack it was so good! -Collard greens. I’m running out of words to say how good the food was, amazing again. Delicious. I feel collard greens are very hit or miss, but these folks got it down to an art! -Mac and Cheese. It was creamy, a bit runny, but the taste made me go back for seconds. The price was ridiculous. I probably ate three people worth of food, and paid maybe $25 bucks with tip. The staff was also super friendly, and explained the different foods to me, and showed me all their different types of deserts that I also could not resist. (Super moist chocolate cake!). If I’m ever in the area again, I’ll be stopping by for sure.

ProPortion Meals – Menu with Prices – 711 W 17th St Unit C11, Costa Mesa

When I first started my fitness journey, I loved being active and I loved eating. What I did not LOVE was the amount of time and inconvenience it took to prep my meals for the week. The week would fly by and I’d find myself having to do all the work of going to the store, buying food, finding time in my inconsistent work schedule to cook, and then resisting the temptation to buy fast food over the meals I had spent so much time prepping. I decided to look for other options when it came to prepping my meals. Online options like Freshly and Icon Meals looked good but shipping was way too expensive. Since that was the biggest issue, I had the great idea to check Yelp to see if there were any companies close to me. Game changer. I found ProPortion Meals close by to me in Costa Mesa and decided to give this place a try. Best decision ever. After making the same old steak/chicken, rice, and veggies meal for weeks – ProPortion Meals offered a variety of different and DELICIOUS meals. Even dishes I wouldn’t ordinarily try made from turkey/fish were filled with so much flavor and taste. Each week they offer something different that my tastebuds are eager to try. (The Korean beef is my favorite!) I find myself always checking the website to see what will be offered for the next week. Instead of being bored of my own food, I was now looking forward to every meal. I think the kicker on top of the variety and taste is they also post the macros for the dish right on the packaging so you can easily keep track. I think great companies are run by great people and Anna is so very accomodating and helpful. Customizing meals or having special requests is no trouble for her. Even just going in to pick up my meals and having a conversation with her is enough to keep me coming back. There is no higher pleasure to being a customer than knowing you are also treated like a friend.

Neicy’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 359 23rd Ave, Columbus

We recently moved from out of state new to the Georgia Columbus area, we happened to drive by Neicys BBQ and what pulled us in was their huge smokers and a full parking lot. If the parking lot is full you know there is some good food to be had. We ordered 2 Rib plates with greens, Mac and Cheese, beans and field greens. All together we paid about $24.00 which is an amazing price for some amazing BBQ. The ribs were so tender they fell right off the bone, there was no way I was going to be able to stop eating that’s how incredible every thing tasted. For a reasonably low cost you definitely get your money’s worth, exceptional BBQ and all around great customer service. Highly recommend that you pick up some good ol southern BBQ you will not be disappointed. Since our last visit it is all we can think about, we will be forever customers. Happy and satisfied

B J’s Country Cooking – Menu with Prices – 611 South Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta

A coworker asked me to have lunch with her at BJ’s. I was unsure at first when it comes to “southern country cooking” places. This place is located in the front of a shopping center so there is plenty parking surrounding it. Once inside the place was not extremely packs but a good bit of people were sitting inside eating (plenty tables). The food is set up like a buffet style behind a glass counter. The lunch special is between $6-$7 and you get a great amount of food (one piece of meat, two sides, corn muffin or biscuit, and a drink). I ordered the fried pork chop, mac and cheese, and greens with a sweet tea. The food was made to-go and once back to the office briefly warmed in up and the taste was pretty good. it was not over the top but I enjoyed. I was able to pack the rest and eat it for dinner, that’s how much was put on the plate. The staff was friendly and ready to serve. The appearance of the place is not the best but its doable. I will return in the future. I had to push my plate away from me so I can continue to work after lunch lol.

Music City Chicken Company – Menu with Prices – 109 2nd Ave N, Nashville

Wow, this place was an awesome find for lunch on a Saturday. Yes, a college football Saturday… of all days. We walked into a few other popular places that had menus full of southern food inspired items, but this was the place that called our name. First of all, who doesn’t like to be greeted by a large chicken/rooster dressed in a Nashville Predators shirt with a sign around it’s neck of a chicken with an American flag in the background? That was a terribly long sentence to start with. As we entered we were told by customers exiting that the hot chicken was very good. That was enough for me. We were greeted and seated immediately. There were a bunch of people there at the time but not crazy busy like some of these sports bar in the area. We felt very comfortable walking in without wall to wall people and lines. Anyway, I don’t want to make this long-winded like most of my reviews. I just want to say that the food was fantastic and the portions were super generous for the price. A quarter chicken and 2 large sides on top of 2 slices of bread and some scattered dill pickles for $13 in Nashville. What a deal! You get to choose from 4 different heat levels (Just-Seasoned, Not-So-Mild, Nashville Hot, or Sign-the-Waiver). My husband got the Nashville Hot and I settled for the Not-So-Mild because I wanted that kick of heat (just to experience it). You just can’t go to Nashville and not get hot chicken, right? Well, the not-so-mild was still very hot for me. It cleared out my sinuses but I just couldn’t stop eating it. It was hot, but super flavorful. Not just hot for the sake of heat. My husband loved the Nashville Hot. He commented on the fact that it wasn’t all cayenne pepper like any he has had in the past. That was a good comment coming from him. I mean you can just pour some Frank’s RedHot on your chicken if you want that kind of taste. This chicken wasn’t like that. These guys brine the chicken first, hand bread it, add what ever seasoning to it, and pressure fry it. This is what makes it so tender and juicy. The outer skin was perfectly crisp. It was amazing! The pickles were delicious and so were the sides. Hubby got the Pepper-Jack Mac. It was delicious. I stole a couple of bites. We both got collard greens. I got the green beans. Everything was seasoned well and tasted great. I think the only complaint was it was way too much food. One side item would have been enough (or 2 smaller side items). I also forgot to mention that you can get everything atop a waffle cone with 1 side item instead of 2. I saw someone eating their food out of a waffle cone. The popular side item in the waffle cone being the pepper-jack mac. I’d love to try that one day. The service was fantastic as well. The atmosphere is kind of a southern/hipster vibe. Loved it! They have a full bar with lots of local beer options. Would go there all over again. Some people may judge it as being touristy but I read that the owner of The Stillery opened up this restaurant back in June. It’s totally local and really good comfort food. I know there are other more well-known places for hot chicken, but this one hit all the right notes for me. Highly recommended from this Yelper.

Hollywood’s One Stop Shop – Menu with Prices – 3342 Winter Lake Rd, Lakeland

Hollywood One Stop catered my wifeâ??s surprise baby shower earlier this month and they did an amazing job. We expected 50 plus people for the event and we had plenty of food. Everyone was able to eat as much as they wanted. Our spread was Fried Chicken, Baked Chicken(Tha Bomb), MAC and Cheese, GREENS!!!!, Yellow Rice, Some of the Best Potato salad I have ever ate, You gotta get the cornbread muffins Iâ??m still craving them to this day. The pineapple lemonade set everything off in the right way. The customer service was amazing made me at ease the whole way leading up to the event. I will be using Hollywood One Stop again for work parties and any other parties in the future. I canâ??t say enough about this place and the price was definitely reasonable for the amount of love they put in the food.
