Came here the first time and by the name I thought they have coffee and beer. Very friendly service! Nice and clean coffee shop. They do have Wi-Fi but it’s secured and you need to ask for the code. I ordered a large latte 24 oz. Which could use another shot of espresso, I wasn’t offered one so I assumed it should be OK. But then I was asked how it is I got an extra shot ? They however put 1,2 or 3 shots depending on size. I purchased one Espresso Fritalia and test it myself. I tried a burrito but all their food is pre-made and is then reheated so the burrito didn’t live up to my expectations. Their bagels and ciabatta looked better, I’ll try that next time. They also have a nice selection of coffee for purchase. I particularly like their grading by flavor, body and acidity, that’s very helpful especially for me since I’m roasting coffee too. It would be nice if they would offer something fresh made, salad, baguette with ham and cheese, soup, chili or similar.

Organic Man Coffee Trike – Menu with Prices – 4501 McPherson Rd #9, Laredo

Cute little independent shop. I had high hopes for the coffee. Unfortunately the barista serving me, while very friendly and pleasant, simply didn’t have the level of training that one would expect of a dedicated coffee shop. When I was initially asked “what size?”, I asked if they used a standard “doppio” or 2 ozs of espresso, she said that their “12 oz cappuccino” came with only a single shot of espresso….most places, a doppio or 2 oz shot of espresso is served as standard, bringing a cappuccino to 6 ozs total (2 ea of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam))….so no idea how they get to a cappuccino with a single 1 oz shot of espresso to 12 ozs……so I asked for a “doppio”. My first “cappuccino” that I ordered was a latte (predominantly milk, maybe 3x the qty of espresso). She was pleasant enough to make a second one after me asking for equal qty of milk to espresso…..but that one was simply average in flavor. Not sure what roasting house the beans come from (she didn’t know), but the flavor was pretty lackluster. Also, for this cappuccino, I was charged with tax, $6.12. Unfortunately, overall, average at best.

Waterhouse Coffee & Juice Bar Menu with Prices 3033 Wilson Blvd, Arlington

Slow service, tasteless food, mediocre coffee, and no system in place for calling orders. I came here with high hopes. The space is nice and they appeared to have a well thought out menu of breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and juices. I ordered a double espresso, a coffee, and a bacon egg and Muenster sandwich on ciabatta. First, the service, I was given my coffee immediately, the espresso 15 minutes later, and the sandwich five minutes after that. There is no system in place for managing large orders. The place was not packed but the three people on staff were unable to manage a small crowd, which makes me concerned at how they would respond if it were packed. Next, the coffee. The place serves Lavazza Espresso. It’s a step up from your typical standard brew, but in a County that has plenty of excellent third wave coffee from micro-roasters, it’s underwhelming. Lastly, the food. It’s really hard to mess up a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, or rather at least I thought it was. The ciabatta was flavorless, the egg patty was like a microwaved egg patty you get at a Starbucks, the bacon was small, and the cheese tasted like Swiss, not Muenster. Overall, the place is pretty terrible and I will not return.

Halo Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 3024 Hurontario St, Mississauga

I hate doing this. As someone who works in “specialty coffee,” I don’t like rating other shops – especially negatively. I’m always on the look out for new specialty coffee shops because coffee is always a learning experience and an adventure. And I believe in supporting independent “specialty coffee” shops. I want to be at shops that not only pulls amazing espresso shots, but that the baristas show passion in their coffee. I was really excited to visit, having seen it on Instagram. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in Halo – a place that brands itself as a “specialty coffee” shop on Instagram. I have now been there twice, because I thought I’d give them another chance. While today’s visit was better, Halo has ultimately let me down. Coffee shops need to be able to dial in their espresso shots – meaning that their espresso is calibrated to bring out a balance of flavour. The first time, the shot was so bitter that I couldn’t finish it. The second time was much better, but still very sour. A shop’s espresso doesn’t have to be completely perfect – coffee is always a battle to find the perfect flavour. But this was just poor quality. The staff on my first visit was quite cold, but the barista that served me today was quite nice. They weren’t very passionate about coffee though. That love for coffee really goes a long way for a coffee shop. This was not a place that was serious about their coffee. It showed in the staff’s interactions with me, and the quality of the espresso shot. It’s ok for a shop to be mediocre in its coffee. But I expected much better from a shop that brands themselves as “Mississauga’s own independent specialty coffee shop”. I don’t like posting negative reviews, but Halo gets a thumbs down from me.

Cup – Fine Coffee & Roasters – Menu with Prices – 339 Fleming Rd B-1, Charleston

Delicious, cutting-edge coffee drinks made all the more exciting because of the freshness of the beans–they purchase raw coffee beans and roast themselves. You can taste the difference. The names of the single origin farms are clearly displayed so you know exactly where your coffee is coming from. They are doing everything locally including making their own specialty whipped cream for espresso drinks. I had their unique saffron-infused espresso, and the owner Robbie explained that the Turks used to use saffron for a coffee flavor enhancement. Go find them at the farmer’s markets and chat them up.

Iris Bagel & Coffee House Menu with Prices 5801 Interstate 20 W, Arlington

I was really excited to try this spot, not only because I love supporting local businesses, but because of all the great reviews!! I have worked with coffee for years and love to try out new coffee shops all the time. Unfortunately, my partner and I didn’t try the bagels, so my review reflects only their coffee. I ordered an iced vanilla latte. I asked for the large (or tall which was listed on their menu) and she said it comes in only one size anyways. I thought it was perfect because it looked like a large which is what I wanted. Maybe I had too many high expectations because I was a little disappointed with my drink. I loved the fact that it wasn’t too sweet, however the coffee tasted pretty generic. I couldn’t taste any uniqueness about the coffee itself. It tasted pretty milky and watered down. I forgot to ask how many shots of espresso came in the drink, but whatever it was didn’t compliment the amount of milk it had. My partner ordered a cubano. He loved his! He only wished he could have more of it. Overall, the workers were friendly, and the atmosphere was very chill. I did appreciate the variety of flavors they had to choose from!

Soma Cafe & Deli – Menu with Prices – 10184 Telesis Ct, San Diego

Latte is good, better than starbucks, but not so awesome as some other independent coffeeshops near by. Lunch experience is abysmal, ordered a lunch special, I was asked what type of bread I wanted, I asked for ciabatta. I got the sandwich with white bread. And it was definitely not $10 sandwich. When I told them that I ordered with ciabatta, i received a rather reluctant response. My co-worker ordered pasta, which he didn’t like, the pesto pasta didnt have much trace of pesto sauce and rather tasted like dish soap. I will swing by for coffee but lunch, i have learnt my lesson.

DreiBerge Coffee – Menu with Prices – 111 E Grand Ave Suite 109, Des Moines

I just got back from having coffee here with some friends! I had heard how good it was so I couldn’t help but have some expectations… First off, it has a somewhat similar vibe to Horizon Line, in that it is very minimalistic in style, which I like. Concrete floors, natural light, nothing much on the walls, etc. The major difference though is the cozy that this place has over Horizon. If these places were iPhoto filters, Horizon would be Dramatic Cool, and DreiBerge would be Vivid Warm. Go ahead, look at your phone now, I know you want to. Coffee is of a similar high quality, which is what really matters. However, DreiBerge is really competitive with price. Only $4 for a cup of their house with an added shot of espresso. Totally reasonable, and this coffee was GOOD. They’ve also got kombucha and nitro on tap for only $4. My friend also said that their scone was one of the best ever, and that it was more like a shortbread. For those of us who think scones are flavorless dust wedges (hello, that’s me), DreiBerge is worth a try. The kiddie play area is such a nice addition, too. There were three littles in our group and all the blocks, plastic food and puzzles kept them busy. To me, this says that DreiBerge knows their clientele, and isn’t trying to put anyone off by being too cool. Kids ARE cool, and who needs a coffee and chill more than parents?! No one, that’s who. Good job, DreiBerge. I’ll be back all semester to study at your beautiful live edge tabletops.

Biggby Coffee – Menu with Prices – 120 W Ottawa St, Lansing

Better than Starbucks in my opinion but still it’s nothing special. I’m not a fan of all the sugary syrup flavored drinks. When I try a new coffee place I usually get an iced latte or a regular coffee. On this occasion I went with an iced latte and it was ok. It did not have that over roasted/burnt Starbucks flavor but it seemed to be lacking any flavor. Next time I’ll try it with an extra shot of espresso.

Kings Peak Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 412 S 7th W Suite 140, Salt Lake City

I really wanted to like this place. It?s a lovely space and the barista was very friendly, unfortunately the coffee we had was terrible. I had a macchiato, and instead of being an espresso shot marked with a dash of steamed milk, it was a full glass of milk with a splash of espresso. My partner had an americano and the espresso was under extracted and sour. Based on the other reviews of this place, I want to believe the bad drinks were just an anomaly, but they were bad enough we won?t be returning to find out.

Nine Bar Espresso Menu with Prices 45 Bromfield St, Boston

Best coffee in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood, by far! For the six years I’ve worked in DTX this little space on Bromfield St. has hosted two coffee shops that immediately became my favorites. Boston Brewin operated here for 7 years until it suddenly closed at the end of 2018. It took a few months into 2019 for Nine Bar to open, but no disappointment at all when it did. The proprietor Erik brews Gracenote coffee and serves two blends daily, which he rotates every week. The coffee is awesome. Always fresh…always hot…never bitter…and very consistent from day to day…week to week. I’ll leave it to others to comment on the espresso and espresso drinks as I’m more of a straight up coffee drinker, but suffice it to say a coffee here with a shot of espresso (called the Red-Eye when it was Boston Brewin) is the bomb! Nine Bar also offers iced coffee, tea drinks, a variety of breakfast pastries and healthy snacks. I highly recommend Nine Bar if you need a quick caffeine fix and bite to eat on the go.

The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room – Menu with Prices – 2523 Broadway, Oakland

As a “self-proclaimed” coffee snob, I’m so impressed with this place, I can hardly stand it. While traveling, we’re always in search of a GREAT 3rd wave coffee purveyor. This place shot to the top of my list. We’ve been a number of times (we live 2 hours away) on practically every trip we make to the Bay Area. I’ve enjoyed a number of lattes, espresso’s (they offer an espresso “flight”) and cold brews. Each visit comes complete with great service and a coffee education (if you so inquire). These folks don’t just serve up some of the finest roasts I’ve ever tasted, they are “highly” educated about the process and freely share their expertise. I’m told that their “main” business is as an importer / supplier to many of the 3rd wave roasters throughout Northern California, and they’ve been in the coffee biz for many years. I have yet to take advantage of the many educational offerings they have, both for coffee professionals or just folks (like myself) looking to get more educated on the subject of GREAT coffee and how to make it, drink it and enjoy it. They don’t sell roasted beans, to the public, however, they will make you a cup of some of the best coffee you’ve ever tasted.

Boxcar Social – Menu with Prices – 1208 Yonge St, Toronto

Aesthetic shop with thought given to every little detail. Coffee selection: Nice selection of roasted coffee from both Canada and the US. Surprised to find that they were offering prices which were competitive with the roaster’s own pricing. They had various coffees from Luna, Seth Taylor CBD, and SEY in stock. Pour-over: Conducted on a GINA as immersion. Had an Ecuadorian one from SEY and then an Ethiopian one from Luna. Served in a cute carafe from Hario and pretty handmade mugs. Espresso: I think I had the Ecuadorian coffee from SEY. Was surprised to see them serving quality sparkling water with the espresso. Andrew made my drinks and I got the impression from my brief conversation with him that he’s quite knowledgable about coffee. He was well acquainted with roasters from both the US and Canada; and was even familiar with a small roaster in Toronto that I really like. It was funny to see that he brought several of his own bags of coffee to work.
