Friendly family business! I was in the area so I decided to pick some food up hence my food being all over the place. I walked in with my baby and I got nothing but compliments! So the service was great, but the food!! The pasta was delicious! I wish I had gotten a bigger serving. I also got chicken and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were a little dry and not to flavorful in my opinion but the rest was super delicious! Definitely a gem in Brownsville and definitely plan to stop by more often. They also give you a scratch off card to get you close to a free meal or dessert, one of those. I paid a little over $10

Vivian’s Soul Food – Menu with Prices – 4342 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids

Following recommendations from yelp and a tourism magazine brought our family here on sunday. I ordered fried catfish, collard greens, Mac and cheese and cornbread muffin. My only slight negative was there were a couple of fish bones. The catfish was definitely sweet and not muddy tasting. The greens, Mac and cheese and corn bread muffin also really good. My husband has short ribs and mashed potatoes and gravy. I tried the mashed potatoes and they were hard. Weird as did they not add milk to them. No offense but I make better mashed potatoes. Another pet peeve is storage shelf full of supplies on way to bathrooms. Also heard arguing in kitchen then someone would blast the radio real loud. Friendly staff and good food. Another customer left as they had no oxtails. If they could improve on mashed potatoes. Definitely recommend though.

Almond and Oak – Menu with Prices – 3311 Grand Ave, Oakland

Early dinner on a Thursday night…lucky we got there right at opening at 5:30, as they were able to give us a table for 2 “until 7:15.” We thought…sure – that’s absolutely no problem. But guess what? It was close…because we ordered so many things and were enjoying everything so much! Happy hour (5:30p-6:30p) is the way to go. Just one example – the burrata, normally $16, is $10. That’s significant. And the oysters are $2 each, normally $19 for a half dozen (3.16666667 each LOL). There are also happy hour drinks, and the most fun special of all (for meat eaters) is the Happy Meal – Burger, Fries, Salad, Shot & Beer for $25. So how’s the food? Delicious. That burrata is worth the trip. The grilled bread has the perfect amount of salt on it that compliments the mild, creamy flavor of the cheese. It’s been a week and I’m salivating whilst thinking about it still. I was in the mood for lots of “nibbly bits” so along with the burrata, shared some oysters & shishito peppers and then had potato gnocchi, roasted tomato, pepper & eggplant soup, and mashed potatoes. Definitely too much food. I’d cut out the mashed potatoes next time. Didn’t need them since I was having gnocchi anyway, but I’m a sucker for mashed potatoes on a menu. Hubby had the Confit Pork Shoulder and he said it was absolutely delicious. I ordered a drink called the Kathy Cathey – rum, brandy, lemon, agave, green chartreuse and bitters. Yes please and more of that, thank you very much. Service was terrific…truly friendly without exception. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back. (And consistency would assure a 5th star).

Scotty’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2980 E Broad St, Columbus

This is one of those places you must visit before leaving town. Friendly staff, tasty food that’s made from scratch and great prices. Distance and limited hours had kept me from getting out here for my first visit, but let me tell you that its worth the drive and I recommend taking the day off from work to come eat here, or take a long lunch break. Scotty’s Cafe has been around since 1989, how have I not been here before? I am here to tell you that you need to get out here and try this amazing food. The environment was very upbeat and friendly. The staff seem to really be happy working here which is awesome. If only more business had this model. I have never been to a restaurant where the staff cared so much for its customers. Somebody was constantly stopping by to take dirty dishes off of our table, refill our drinks, make sure we had what we needed, asking us if we were enjoying our meal and just make us feel so welcomed and appreciated. Both Scotty and his wife Gina were walking the floor, getting to know their customers on a personal level and making everybody feel great about being in their restaurant. It was fun getting to talk to them. Order The Schmoozer, add 2 eggs(house recommendation) $13.24 – Hot corned beef served atop 3 potato pancakes (latkas). Reuben $9.75 – Corned beef, on grilled rye w swiss cheese, sauerkraut and our 1000 island dressing. Side of Mac n cheese $2.75 Daily special $5.00 Spice rubbed pork loin with mashed potatoes, drink and roll. The schmoozer was excellent, and very filling. If i ordered it again I would just skip the eggs and ask for sour cream, 1000 island dressing, or maybe some gravy as it was a little on the dry side but otherwise it was very tasty. I have never been a fan of a Reuben, but I am always willing to try it as I never turn down food. WOW, this was the best tasting, freshest Reuben I have ever eaten. I will definitely be ordering one of these on a future visit. The daily special – it was plated in such a way that it looked like it came from a fine dining restaurant. The gravy was awesome, the pork was delicious, and the mashed potatoes were perfect. FREE – I almost forgot to tell you that every meal comes with free dessert. Now don’t go crazy, its just a little dish of something special they made for the day. Its actually the perfect size dessert that accompanies the meal. When I was done eating I almost didn’t have room for this little dessert, but it was the perfect size for what little room I had left in my stomach. Also since it was my first time, they offered us a half order of their french toast on the house. It was very tasty and probably the best French toast I have ever had. Over all this place was awesome, the food was excellent, the daily specials cant be beat and I cant wait to come back here. I have found myself talking about this place to all of my friends.

Egg & Flour Pasta Bar – Menu with Prices – 2238 N Farwell Ave, Milwaukee

Located in the Crossroads Collective Food Hall, Egg & Flour has become one of my favorite places to eat, as you can probably tell by the MANY photos I’ve posted of the dishes I’ve had since the opened. The pasta is made from scratch, the sauces are made from scratch, and even the salad dressings are made from scratch, and everything I’ve had has been delicious! So yeah, I’m a big fan! The menu consists of five pasta dishes priced $10-$14, two salads, baguette, and beverages. Unless you have a big appetite, plan on leftovers because you get a good sized serving. My favorite menu item is the Pappardelle Bolognese, but the Bucatini, which is tossed in a cheese wheel, is a close second, and the Shells, which is essentially their awesome mac-n-cheese dish is a close third. However, it’s really the POTD’s (Pasta of the Day) that keep me going back as often as I do. The POTD is available for that day and that day only, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Talk about creating a sense of urgency! Well, it works on me because I find myself trying to plan my day around getting to that POTD before it’s gone. Here is the real kicker. Most of the POTD’s are vegetarian, and I’m the exact opposite of a vegetarian. I want ALL THE MEATS, but I still get drawn to the vegetarian dishes because their really good. Don’t judge me! Also, there is a vegan option on the menu, too. I know there are several great options to choose form at Crossroads Collective Food Hall, but the trick is to narrow your choices down to three or four of them, and then order something from all of them. Everybody wins!

The Hive Esports – Menu with Prices – 49 St Clair Ave W, Toronto

I had lunch today at Raiders E-Sports Centre. It’s a restaurant/bar catering to e-sports connaisseurs. I’m not into gaming but thought I’d check it out as it’s a restaurant I haven’t been to. I ordered a Diet Coke. It was basically brown-coloured water and no taste so I asked for a water instead. I ordered a Chicken Club Sandwich. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of French fries. When my meal arrived, there were mashed potatoes but they were smothered in gravy (which I hadn’t asked for). The mashed potatoes were okay but cold and the gravy was lukewarm. The bread on the sandwich was barely toasted and there was no mayo. When I asked my server for a side of mayo and told her there was none on the sandwich, she seemed surprised that I want it. She brought me a small container of mayo. It looked and tasted funny so I used the excess gravy to make the sandwich less dry instead. I also had to ask for pepper and salt (there were none on the tables). When my bill came, I saw that I’d been charged $2 for swapping fries for mashed potatoes but I hadn’t been told there’d be a surcharge … the potatoes weren’t worth the extra $2. Though my server was pleasant, she seemed to be new, like it was her first day on the job. I won’t be back.

LDH kitchen THE ROBATA Los Angeles – Menu with Prices – 2524 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica

If you’re looking for the perfect date night location or a great restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, The Robata is the ONE. I took my husband on a Sunday evening and seeing his reactions to everything about this place was worth the drive to Santa Monica alone. Let me give you the run-down: APPETIZERS: We started with the Dome Salad and the Pork Belly Pie. The salad had a beautiful presentation, and became interactive once you cracked into the light and crispy wonton dome on top… and the taste matched the looks. With ahi tuna hidden under that dome you’ll not be disappointed. [Bonus: when I whipped out my camera, a staff member came over and handed me a handheld light so I could really capture the beauty of the dishes! Super helpful since the ambiance is dimly lit. I can imagine this would be great for people who have a hard time reading menus in the dark!] The Pork Belly Pie was decadent, and although it’s savory, I would be more than satisfied with this as a dessert! It’s a flaky, fluffy pastry wrapped around a nugget of grilled pork belly, placed on top of a lovely mushroom cream sauce. DRINKS: My husband ordered the Brandy Old Fashioned. He’s usually a stickler for the quality of a traditional Old Fashioned, but was pleasantly surprised at how GOOD this version was. Way to go, bar staff! THE GRILL: We ordered Bacon Wrapped Asparagus, Bacon Wrapped Mochi, Australian Wagyu, Pumpkin with Butter, Portobello Mushroom, and a grilled chicken and asparagus plate that sat on a cushion of the creamiest mashed potatoes. This ain’t your mama’s back yard grill, this is the real deal Robata. Of course, anything bacon wrapped is going to be great, but add that flame grilled char and it’s perfect. THAT WAGYU!!! In that first bite, I swear my husband could have died happy right then and there. We went slice for slice, but I gave him my last piece just to see the pure happiness one more time lol. Mashed potatoes aren’t something I’ve typically seen on a japanese restaurant’s menu, but I could live the rest of my life on that one dish over and over again. The chicken was so tender, but still had that signature char. DESSERT: We each got our own order of Sweet Potato Creme Brûlée. The texture on mine was a little off, as if it had been in the fridge just a little too long, but his was perfect. Even though it was a french dessert, I thought the brûlée was a great way to finish the theme with a “charred” dessert. Overall, The Robata is a full on sensory experience – I didn’t even get into the light shows and projections – so the price reflects that. This place is still brand spanking new, and if the menu is already beyond delicious, I can only imagine that it’s only going to get harder to get a reservation. Plan your budget right and get to The Robata, even for just the Wagyu.

La Familia Bakery – Menu with Prices – 4622 Paredes Line Rd, Brownsville

La Familia I think is the best bakery in Brownsville, and I have tried several bakery’s around town from hole in the wall to a more established places. I continue to be satisfied with the all the baked goods offered by La Familia Bakery. Most of the items run from ¢15 – ¢25 a piece. La Familia has the one of the biggest selections in Brownsville. One stop here, and I guarantee you will keep coming back.

Basil’s Flame Broiled Chicken & Ribs – Menu with Prices – 5917 Manatee Ave W, Bradenton

Basil’s is highly recommended not only by me, but locals alike. It has once again won the Award for Best Chicken Place to Eat (2018). It is fast food without the fast food taste because everything is cooked and freshly made daily.I have followed Basil’s from one location to another. This location may take a little patience to cross over into the parking lot but it is well worth the effort. I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. Maybe because I can watch as the flames cook the delicious chickens or maybe because everything is made fresh daily. Today I ordered mashed potatoes for one of my sides. I had forgotten they put gravy on the potatoes but my taste buds surely appreciated it. Not only was it very flavorful but both the potatoes & the gravy were HOT. Few places keep their mashed potatoes hot – warm, yes, but not hot. This is neither a fancy or large place but they do offer carryout along with a few outside tables for those who prefer to eat there. Children are welcome and a special menu is available for them.Once the customer places and pays for the order at the front counter the selections are placed on a Styrofoam plate and placed at the other end of the counter for pick-up. The fountain drinks and teas are also self-serve. They also offer delicious ribs. There are many selections for side dishes.Dessert anyone? Rice pudding and baklava are available. .

Orlandeaux’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 4916 Monkhouse Dr, Shreveport

Went here for lunch today. The staff is very nice! The floors were incredibly sticky … like SUPER sticky. Disgustingly sticky! I can only imagine how the kitchen is after walking on their floor. The bathroom is also incredibly tiny, dirty and they don’t have a changing table. We ordered the fried oysters with mashed potatoes for lunch. They were pretty flavorless with extra fried bits and watery in the middle. The mashed potatoes were smothered in “gravy” which was actually watered down gravy with onions, paprika and peppers- so really not gravy at all. The best part of the meal was green beans, they were really spicy but good. The tea also tastes like it was brewed with water from a water hose outside. We will not be coming back here, that’s for sure. I’m not sure why this place has so many stars and hasn’t been shut down by the health department…

Harvest Table Buffet Menu with Prices 1505 Gordon Hwy, Augusta

I will be honest. I quit going there about 10 years ago because the food was not very hot on the warming plates or bins. Plus it just didnâ??t seem to have a good enough selection. But a friend told me that it was really good now and I went Sunday and it was out of this world. There was so many entrées to choose from â?? spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, baked chicken, fried chicken, chicken wings, chicken strips, and catfish. I probably left off some. One of the things that I cannot find in a restaurant very often are rutabagas. Those were the best rutabagas I have ever eaten. They also had delicious cabbage, butter beans, sweet potato soufflé, rice, mashed potatoes, delicious macaroni and cheese, corn that tasted like they just cut it off the cob, Green beans, fat back, and I canâ??t remember the rest. They also have a full salad bar and dessert bar and that good soft ice cream thatâ??s thick and heavy. And the food was hot. It was also seasoned perfectly. I really canâ??t think of anything negative except maybe just some of the tables are a little too close together but then again that helps to have more seating. You may think it is a little high but it includes tax and drink and all you can eat on Sunday for $14.75.

Flying with Jerome – Menu with Prices – 1469 S Belcher Rd, Clearwater

Perhaps one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. Our group tried a little of everything. The beef bourginon was superb. Meat fell apart so tender and the flavor of the wine was present but not overwhelming. Had it served with Au Gratin potatoes and they were delicious. We also had the duck, which was served with expertly cooked vegetables and a nice honey rosemary sauce. Another of us also got the Carbo Pasta. Now this was supremely rich and delicious, everyone just had to keep eating more from it because it was so delicious. As far as non-red sauces go, it’s the best pasta I’ve ever tasted. Now for dessert. They prepare a beautiful variety of pastries daily, and you can tell they are not only made from scratch, but also with the most fresh and high quality ingredients. They are all delicious and bursting with fresh flavors, especially the fruit ones. I’ll be coming back here again and again. And oh by the way, such a lovely and delicious meal won’t cost you as much as you think it would! Very reasonable.

The Cozy Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1554 A, Bardstown Rd, Louisville

Im really happy The Cozy Kitchen has opened. This is a mom and pop food stop, owned by a nice local couple who cooks everything from scratch. I heard they have been in the food industry for a while and seem to really know their stuff- it shines through in their food. The menu rotates and today I had the pot roast. This is a takeout only place but dont worry- they use environmentally-conscious carryout materials. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes but if you have larger orders they recommend you call ahead. For $9, the pot roast comes with 2 sides and a roll which paired with the carrots and mashed potatoes and gravy. It was delicious. Im glad to have a place where i can quickly grab some food that isnt just french fries and burgers. I feel like I just left someone’s mom’s house where she sent me home with a big plate of food. I can’t wait to go back. Next rotation they will have pot pies among other things.
