Had taken my father-in-law to Barrel House for lunch today. As we left I noticed a guy tending the stick burners out in the parking lot and saw the sign for Mr. BBQ. Curious folks like we are we investigated inside. I wound up ordering a pound each of pulled pork and brisket to take home just to try. As I got my order I just had to open the containers and sample them. Oh man, seriously some of the best pulled pork and brisket I have ever had. Good crust and perfect moisture.Great smoke flavor with incredible rings. The brisket you can pull on and it has just the right amount of resistance before it pulls apart- moist too. I hate dry brisket. This isn’t. I don’t know their seasonings or rubs but it’s good. These folks know what they’re doing. Will return to try their other offerings. Am very happy with this place. Worth the drive from Meridian.

Andrew’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 730 E Guadalupe Rd #101, Tempe

So I used to come here and eat in college and remember it being ALOT better. I used to get the green chili pulled pork fries. Anyways. I went there and ordered one pound of brisket with a mix of lean and fatty, four pork ribs and one hot link. The hot link was the best of the lot. Juicy, crisp and with just the right amount of smoke. The ribs were below average. The bark was thin with little to no spice and there was zero smoke ring. Little flavor and no smoke flavor in the ribs. The bones were super soft and when I bit into the ribs I bit off chunks of the bone which was quite gross. This has never happened to me at any bbq joint. You can see it in the photos. The brisket was a whole other level of bad. Zero smoke ring, the fat was not rendered no flavor and it seemed like it had a lot of bad smoke in it. It looked like it had been cooked earlier and then reheated or boiled in a bag. Really bad. Overall I was really disappointed and it seems like it has gone downhill. Not sure if they changed ownership. I inquired as to the type of smoker they use and it’s a gas powered southern pride smoker where it just blows heat over wood chips. I was not very impressed with a BBQ restaurant using a gas smoker.

Big T’s Mill St BBQ Company – Menu with Prices – 242 Mill St, Worcester

We went to Big T’s Mill Street Barbecue for dinner. Bottom line, it was OK. My wife got a pulled chicken slider with roasted veg, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. I wanted to try a little of everything so I ordered their “BBQ Sundae” with brisket, pulled pork and a couple of St. Louis ribs added in. It came with Mac n cheese under the pulled pork and beans and cornbread under the brisket and a side of rice. My lasting impression was that other than the ribs the food was cooked well but no distinct flavor. No hint of smoke. No spice or bark. The mac was cheesy, tasty, and not over cooked. The sauce which was mixed in with the pulled pork made it moist but didn’t add much dimension. The sauce over the brisket was thick and sweet but one-dimensional. The ribs though disappointed, they were cooked well with a good bite, not fall off the bone, but the thing that disappointed was that they clearly reheated them over the grill and while doing so burned them, not charted – burnt – giving them an aftertaste of ashtray. The restaurant itself is gorgeous – really nicely done and a pretty solid bar selection. All in all, out of 5. Good, not to die for, and let down on the ribs but I’d give them another shot hoping the ribs are usually better.

Robinson’s BBQ Menu with Prices 5920 Hillside Rd, Amarillo

My husband, father-in-law and myself came here for lunch today as we always drive by but have never stopped to try it. All I can say is that I wish it was better. I got the brisket and sausage plate and it came with coleslaw, beans, and a piece of cornbread. I wish the brisket was better, it had a small smoke ring but for this restaurant to be around for as long as it has, you’d think that they’d have the smoking down. My husband got the brisket and the chopped pork, said it had no flavor. My FIL got the brisket sandwich with sausage mixed in and he said it was alright. We got a large order of onion rings, and that was probably the best part of the meal. At least we can now say that we’ve tried it!

Sloppy Mama’s BBQ Menu with Prices 5731 Lee Hwy, Arlington

I’m a BBQ fan (lived in the pork BBQ capital of America, Memphis, for 6 years) and I LOVE THIS PLACE! First of all just like many places in Memphis you can see the smokers outside in the parking lot where the smell of the meat smoking meets you before you even go inside. This is a great way to get people to start salivating for the barbecue they can order inside. We came for the first time tonight and ordered some brisket and pork and mac and cheese baked beans and cornbread as sides. While I’m not from Texas I do enjoy a good moist and wet brisket and this was among some of the best that I’ve had in the DC area. I would say that it is equivalent for better to Jack’s also in Arlington. The brisket was moist and if you wanted to get a fatty piece you could. The pulled pork was also very good. It was moist and had a delicious smoke to it. They do take the pulled pork and chop it for you before putting it on your tray. I actually prefer pulled pork 2 chopped pork so next time I will ask them not to chop it. For the sides the beans were delicious and the cornbread some of the best that I’ve ever had. Seriously I could go and just eat the cornbread alone. My wife had the mac and cheese and she also enjoyed it. They also have a good selection of barbecue sauces that come in a dispenser that looks like it could be dispensing ice tea. They have the following types of barbecue sauce. Georgia gold, Alabama white, Diablo, North Carolina vinegar, in Kansas City sweet. I have never had the Alabama white before and that was delicious. All the other sauces also Ware delicious and worth trying each one. I’m so glad that this place opened in North Arlington and will definitely be back to sample some additional meats and sides!

Texas Beef & Cattle Company – Menu with Prices – 1101 W Third St, Dayton

Finally got to try this place as I was in the area. Lunchtime on this Saturday was packed with two biker groups who stopped in during their ride. The restaurant wasn’t quite ready for these boisterous but fun guys and were doing their best to keep up with orders. I had time to wait so talked to a couple of them that had finished. They loved all the meat they tried (brisket, pulled pork and jalapeno sausage — said it was moist and tasty), enjoyed the Borracho beans (good hunks of brisket and onions), but warned to stay away from the cornbread — said it was “dry crap). I order a sampler to go — pulled pork, regular sausage, and burnt ends instead of the sliced brisket. All very tasty but I think in all the rush they (and myself) forgot to ask for BBQ sauce. The beans were truly delicious, pulled pork a little dry, sausage was pretty good and moist, and burnt ends pretty tasty but have had better. It’s almost like they took a shortcut and just trimmed them off but didn’t soak and cook some more. We’d like to come back and try the Huge beef ribs. Worth another visit.

Smoking Kow – Arlington Menu with Prices 2910 N Sycamore St, Arlington

I was headed to a different BBQ place when I saw this…hmmmm, new name, new menu…why not. I called my house guest to get her order & was pleasantly surprised to see so many people in the place. I thought this is a good sign so I ordered a brisket sandwich, a pull pork sandwich and sides. As it was being prepared, I overheard someone say they were out of mac n’ cheese. The creamy one with garlic & jalapeno? Since no one mentioned it, I presumed I’d get what I ordered. Nope…bland mac n’ cheese without a hint of either. The soupy potato salad was amazing bland too. With fingers crossed, we bit into the sandwiches. The “moist” brisket is misnamed with no hint of smoke. The pulled pork was mostly large chucks of flavorless meat which we chopped into smaller pieces & added sauce. That definitely saved the meal but the vinegar sauce lacked heat. The coleslaw on the sandwiches & the house-made pickles were pretty good. Let’s hope things improve as the pizza place around the corner is a no-go…but I’ll save those comments for another day.

Nelson’s BBQ Food Truck – Menu with Prices – 7327 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio

If been busy the past couple of weeks since I went to Nelson’s, but I have found time on my long ride to another destination to reminisce on the meal I had while in San Antonio that came out of a humble food truck. I had messaged Nate prior to coming to San Antonio, letting him know that my girlfriend and I were coming. We noticed that, with all of the pictures on yelp, his restaurant had the best lookin’ BBQ around. Now, I’m just a Alabama boy who loves BBQ. Alabama doesn’t necessarily have a BBQ identity, besides the White Sauce from Bob Gibson’s BBQ, but I know how to eat, and I eat good food. Period. When I arrived at the food truck, Nate and his friendly helper (I believe it was his girlfriend) were busy. Very busy. People of all ages were standing in line. Kids, mothers with kids, teens, parents, etc. we’re waiting on their food. I briefly talked with Nate and let him know that I was the one who messaged him. He promptly greeted me and my girlfriend with a piece of the most tender, moist brisket covered in fatty goodness. Absolutely amazing. Nate told me, “I got your order, don’t worry about it.” We exchanged some more small talk, but he needed to get back to it since the line for his truck was piling up, not because of poor service, but because the clientele knew how good his food was. Everyone we talked to stated that he was absolutely worth the wait. Once our food was ready, he called us over and said, “y’all got the last bit of brisket, and we are not known for our pulled pork, but this stuff right here, it’s good.” I’ll spare you the details of how quickly and viciously I ate my food, but needless to say, I blacked out. Nate gave me 3 strips of brisket. The smoke ring was perfect. The bark was perfect. It was moist. It was perfect. The pulled pork, that he stated that they were not known for, was incredible. It melted in your mouth. He also had pork ribs that were to die for. He also threw in some of his home-made chicken sausage, and it was really good. The Mac and cheese was insane. I will probably have him ship some out to me for my wedding, if he’s not already there in attendance. The sauce he has speaks for itself. He also made my girlfriend the biggest Nasty Nate. I was speechless after finding the smoked bacon. The picture I have provided doesn’t do it justice. Obviously, you don’t have to be as dramatic as I am about food, but if you are wanting good BBQ in the San Antonio area, from a guy who is nice and cares about his customers, come here. Oh yeah, did I mention he was in a food truck doing BBQ? That’s insane.

Naked Q BBQ- Chandler – Menu with Prices – 890 N 54th St Suite A2, Chandler

Didn’t remember to take a pic till I ate half my food lol! But if anyone wants some Kick ass bbq that is keto friendly, check out Naked BBQ (this is the chandler location). They also have keto sides of green beans, broccoli and side salads. I went with the meats per lb and made it a carnivore day. Since I smoke my own meats, I’m super picky about my bbq. *Brisket – my fav! So tender and flavor on point! *Turkey – surprisingly delicious, second fav, and made me want to smoke my own for the holidays *chicken – it was okay, nothing special *pulled pork – also good but I like mine better, and I’ve literally had pulled pork all week lol * ribs – good but super fatty and oily. Lots of flavor *jalapeno sausage – omg Knock your socks of good!!! They will let you taste test before you order too! Which I didn’t know till after I ordered lmao! The manager was very open with what had sugar and what didn’t which I really appreciated. AMAZING service!

Buckhorn BBQ – Menu with Prices – 3401 Dale Rd, Modesto

Update: We visited on a Thursday just before noon. There was no line at the register so we ordered straight away. We wanted to try a little sample of many things so we ordered a sampler platter, which is not on the menu, so we got special permission from the manager to build it ourselves: 1/4 lb of each meat: tri-tip, pulled pork, sausage + 4 ribs & sides of mac n cheese, beans & roasted vegetables. This priced out at $32 for two diners which I find reasonable… We placed our order number on the table and drew our drinks. I could see, as we passed by to get our drinks, they threw the ribs and sausage on the char grill to heat them back up. After a short wait, they actually served the food on a large pizza platter.(see photo) Nice touch! They should make this sampler platter a new menu option! The sides were all hot and tasty, especially the roasted vegetables! The mac n cheese was very creamy and not coagulated, like some places! The beans were an interesting mix of ingredients, that are departure from your standard BBQ beans and were tasty, but my least favorite side. The sausage and pulled pork were the best meats. The grilled warm up of the sausage made this link piping hot and just the right amount of spicy. The pulled pork was tender, moist and needed no BBQ sauce, but needed something else. (later) The ribs were good and tender with most of the fat rendered out. Too bad these had to be rewarmed on the grill. I think these would be best served out of the ‘hot hold’. The tri-tip was my least favorite. Their claim of ‘Best Tri-Tip on the Planet’ is a huge stretch! It was not ‘outstanding’ in any way! The one thing all the meats were missing was smoke flavor. I see they have two great smokers in their kitchen, but the absence of any smoke flavor or smoke rings on the meat, tell me those smokers are being used as ‘low and slow ovens’ set to 225 degrees. It does not appear any of the meat items, cooked here, are benefiting from any hickory wood, logs or chucks. That’s a shame! The service was definitely better this time! Our server touched the table about half a dozen times, checking on us and clearing plates away. I would say that this was a good overall dining experience and value. If they would actually ‘smoke the meat’ and ‘step up their tri-tip game’, this could become one of my regular BBQ joints! PS: I also noticed they have ‘full service dining’ at the bar and high top tables! I’ll try that next time…

The Pig Shop Bar and Grill – Menu with Prices – 2500 Tournament Dr, Virginia Beach

I was looking through Postmates (delivery) for something that my husband and I hadn’t tried before and found The Pig Shop. We each had the “Two Meat, Two Sides” combo and the first thing we noticed was that the trays were HEAVY. Opening my tray, I saw the most beautiful, glistening mounds of brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was the melt in your mouth star of our dinner. My husband obsessively hates fatty meats, yet he gobbled down his brisket without a second of hesitation. He also raved about his chickenbreast – moist, smoky, and flavorful. My favorite part of the meal, however, was an unexpected surprise. As soon as I took a bite of the potato salad, I burst into tears. I had just gotten a rare and elusive taste of my childhood because it tasted just like my mother’s homemade potato salad. It is incredible, y’all. Thank you, The Pig Shop, for a great meal and a welcome, wonderful taste of home!

Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que – Menu with Prices – 3002 W 47th St, Kansas City

I want to start off by saying I have a deep appreciation for barbecue. I’ve been fortunate to have had some incredible barbecue around this country, and unfortunately I’ve had some terrible barbecue around this country. I always get excited when I’m heading to Kansas City, knowing I’m going to be enjoying some great barbecue. I knew my first stop for barbecue on this trip was going to be Joe’s. The first surprising thing about Joe’s is that it’s inside a gas station. But don’t let that deter you. You know you’re at the right place when you see the enormous line out the door, only to find out that the line wraps around once you get inside the door. After spending an hour in line, I finally got to the front. After changing my mind several times, I settled on a full rack of ribs and a side of onion rings. The onion rings were a last-minute decision because everyone around me seemed to have an order and they looked great. There are two things that I’m on the lookout for whenever I order barbecue. Is it covered in sauce and is it served with white bread? I can tell you that the barbecue here was not covered in sauce and it came with two slices of white bread. These ribs were cooked to perfection. There was just the right amount of rub and smoke. The meat hung on to the bones but came off easily enough. It didn’t just fall off the bones. This is important! If the meat just falls off the bone, they’ve been overcooked. They had a nice pink color with a dark outside, and most importantly the taste was incredible. By the way, the staff here is amazing as well. Anthony Bourdain wrote when he listed Joe’s as one of the 13 places to eat at before you die. “People may disagree on who has the best BBQ. Here, the brisket (particularly the burnt ends), pulled pork, and ribs are all of a quality that meet the high standards even of Kansas City natives. It’s the best BBQ in Kansas City, which makes it the best BBQ in the world. The barbecue here is criminally good.” I couldn’t agree more. The ribs here were truly sublime. I will be making another visit to Joe’s before I leave.

Mel’s Rock N’ BBQ – Menu with Prices – 1233 N 3rd St, Harrisburg

Ate at Mel’s last week on 4/22 when I was in the downtown area. I have had BBQ from all across the country – from TX, to TN, to NC, and beyond. Although Mel’s definitively offers a unique BBQ flavor, I cannot say that it is my type of BBQ. Food: I think I am in the minority when I say this, but pulled pork may be my favorite BBQ item. Not ribs, not brisket, not turkey – it’s always gotta be pulled pork. All things considered though, I actually prefer getting a sampler platter to try a variety of items, but unfortunately Mel’s does not offer this on their menu. Personally, I feel as if this is a major disservice to both the customers and to themselves. As a business, you want your customers to try as much of your food as possible because it significantly increases the likelihood that they are going to find something they really like and want to come back for. I would have loved to try a little bit of brisket, a little pork, a rib, maybe even some chicken or sausage. Honestly, I would have been happy with a ‘pick 2’ for $x.xx or a ‘pick 3’ for $x.xx. This is also a great way to increase margins as well because people love sampler platters. Ok, that said, the pork that I had was great. Truly prepared in a way that highlighted the pork flavor. On its own, it was definitely a bit under-seasoned – but that is what the BBQ sauce is for! The pork was moist, tender, succulent, and had some nice pieces of bark mixed into it. One of the best pulled porks I have had (Pork: 4 / 5). Now, in terms of a sandwich, this is the problem. You may be able to see from the pictures, but the whole bottom of my to-go container was covered in grease. Not a light coating either. There was a legitimate pool in the container. This made the bottom of the bun completely soggy and saturated with grease. Unfortunately, this did affect the overall taste and texture. (sandwich 2/5) BBQ Sauce: It just isn’t my type of BBQ. For me, the texture was off. It has the texture of a fine salsa, or that of crushed tomatoes. I like a smooth BBQ sauce. Next, the flavor. For me, and I don’t think my taste buds are mistaken, but there is a very heavy amount of cumin in the BBQ. Too much for me. If you can pull-out singular flavors of a sauce, I feel as if that means that there is too much of it. Because of the flavor profile along with the texture, this BBQ sauce is more like a strange hybrid between a BBQ sauce and a salsa. In theory, that sounds pretty good; but for me, this particular sauce did not work for me. (BBQ 2/5) Mac and Cheese: A decent Mac & cheeses because it actually has real cheese in it and isn’t a gloopy and liquefied mess; but it was a little under-seasoned and lacked depth. It was cheese and noodles. (3/5) Beans: I was originally going to get the coleslaw, but asked the person which she recommended and she suggested the beans. The beans came in a slightly modified version of their BBQ sauce. So again, it was too much of a cumin flavor. It really overshadowed everything (2/5) Overall Food: 2.5 Service: What I expected. Quick, expedient, and helpful Service: 3 / 5 Atmosphere: It is situated in the Broad St Market, so it is what one would expect from a market-type experience. Atmosphere: 3 / 5 Price: For $10 I think I got a fair amount of food. It was a large portion and the sides were an appropriate portion as well. Price: 3 / 5 Final Thoughts: Although I got a bunch of food for $10, it was way too much food and wasn’t anything that I really liked that much. The pork on its own was delicious, but the BBQ sauce wasn’t for me and the overall greasiness in the to go container was unappealing. I will say that Mel’s offers-up unique BBQ flavors that you likely haven’t tried elsewhere. For that reason, I recommend giving them a shot to see if it is something that you like — like the several others who have reviewed them here on Yelp!
