Although I am no connoisseur of Russian cuisine, I have had Russian food in other cities, Masha and the Bear is way up there. Their food is fresh, do not just taste good but the plating is also appealing. The place is quaint, the young waitress is friendly and very helpful in explaining the menu. The price is quite reasonable and portion size is good. I have been there twice, first time I had Borscht and Cabbage Rolls; on my second visit I had Solyanka and Beef Stroganoff. The broth, the chopped veggies and the beef cubes in both soups, so fresh with just the right amount of seasoning. The soups came with sour cream and croutons. I can’t really describe the taste but adding sour cream to the soup does wonder. The croutons add a crunch and provide a little texture contrast. An order of the Cabbage Roll came in two of about 6 inches long and plump with ground beef filling. I had Ukrainian and Polish Cabbage Rolls before, and they are usually topped with a tomato based sauce. This Russian ones were topped with a sour cream based sauce instead. I like both. The Beef Stroganoff we get in North America usually has beef and mushroom served on top of noodles or rice. The Beef Stroganoff from Masha and the Bear was a big pile of pan fried tender beef strips in a sour cream sauce and no mushroom, the original recipe according to Google. I had mine with mash potatoes. Overall, two enjoyable dining experience. I do plan on trying out the entire menu.

Fat Bear Burgers & Tacos – Menu with Prices – 4854 N Mesa St Suite 102, El Paso

Ok, so this is day I don’t know what of skipping my diet. I have to say Fat Bear was worth it. I had their rolled tacos and fries. None of Fat Bear’s Chile is hot but it has a pretty good flavor. I decided to go with their red sauce and add some green Chile on top.The cheese seems legit. The ground beef in the rolled taco had a good flavor/seasoning. It wasn’t bland at all. They also have Coke Zero! The fries were a good portion and tasted homemade like my mom’s or the kind I make. I mean…the fries where you peel the potato skin and cut it into strips and fry it in oil and salt. They didn’t taste frozen or out of a bag. Fat Bear offers antojitos (snacks) like elote en vaso (corn in a cup), peaches and cream, chilindrinas (a large pork rind thingy but made of flour instead of pork topped with cabbage, tomato, sour cream, cueritos (more pork) and avocado, Valentina Hot sauce is optional) fresas con crema (strawberries and cream), etc. I decided to go with a fresas con crema for dessert. Not only did it have the strawberries mixed with whipped cream…it also had a touch of canela (cinnamon) and lots of granola. It tasted similar to a yogurt parfait minus the blueberries. I plan to go back and try a burger or hot dog soon. Fat Bear is sort of hidden by itself in a newer shopping center. Prices are affordable. I had all of this for around $11. This location is about 2 months old but the brand is no stranger to El Paso. I enjoyed the casual and chill atmosphere. You don’t have to dress to impress. They also have one large screen TV and played rock music. The staff was also nice and friendly. Beer is also available. Overall, a good place to go on a budget.

Bakers Delight – Menu with Prices – 5111 College Oak Dr # D, Sacramento

I hadn’t been there in quite awhile so I decided to stop in today. I was pleasantly surprised to find this family owned bakery after so many years! I only had six dollars but the very nice lady ( probably the owner) gave me hearty helping of their homemade carrot salad, it’s layered with cabbage, onion, mushrooms cream sauce and parsley, it’s deliciouso!! I also got their fresh hot cabbage & cheese peroski which is filled with a delicious buttery sautéed cabbage cooked inside a fried crispy pocket of goodness. A nice treat if you’re lookng for fresh homemade russian recipes that have more than likely been passed down from many generations. Their beet salad is another favorite of mine. There’s so many items to choose from!! Go there, you won’t be disappointed!!

Signature Cafe – Menu with Prices – Plano

The place is awsome and service is great though I was there yesterday for the stroganoff beef but wasnâ??t pleased it was to watery and over flavoured with the spices that you couldnâ??t taste the beef, mushrooms or even the cream please do something about it.Though service was great n our waiter was exceptional he even apologised for the inconvenience

Widynowski’s Sausage House – Menu with Prices – 4204 118 Ave NW, Edmonton

On Good Friday, we headed to Widynowski’s Sausage House, 4204 118 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5W 1A4. We wanted to get some Easter sausage and cabbage rolls. The service in this tiny little shop is friendly and fast. Eagerly offering samples of various products makes is a pleasure to choose. We bought a bag of sweet cabbage rolls, one of sour cabbage rolls, several rings of ham sausage, one of ham& garlic, a bunch of snack size sausages, one with jalapeno (for me), to enjoy in the car. We are a little fussy about Ukrainian style foods as we make our own, but I’ve gotta tell ya! Do yourself a favour and run on down to Widynowski’s. Everything was delightful. What a treat! All natural products that can’t be beat.

Anoush Deli & International Foods – Menu with Prices – 6808 NE Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver

I highly recommend visiting Anoush for some of the best cabbage rolls I have ever eaten. Anoush is a deli and small grocery store but also includes tables to sit and eat. Years ago I had the Pelmeni (dumplings) which were very good and the Borscht, which was excellent. Most recently I had the cabbage rolls and can say they are some of the best I have ever eaten. Just go to the counter and order them (get the sour cream) and they will heat them and bring them to you on tray with bread. Be sure to buy some of the loose candies (which are priced by the pound and very, very reasonable). If you cannot read the packaging, some of the candies have pictures that help you understand. You can also ask the friendly staff who Iâ??m sure would help. Try Anoush for a meal! I think youâ??ll really enjoy it.

Cocina Madrigal Tacos + Tequila – Menu with Prices – 4044 S 16th St, Phoenix

I did my Yelp research before my business trip to Phoenix and Cocina Madrigal looked like it fit my criteria… great, local, food. We had to take a taxi from our hotel and our taxi driver was confused as to why we wanted to go here, he said “only locals eat there.” I silently thought “BINGO!”, that’s exactly the type of place I want to try in Phoenix. Being on east coast time we were quite early and one of only two tables in the restaurant when we arrived. We got superior service and attention but interestingly, as the restaurant started getting busier, I heard each table get the same attention to the menu and suggestions. I am guessing there are possibly two owners and both were there because both men we saw really took ownership of the restaurant and were dedicated to making everyone’s experiences positive and enjoyable. We started off with margaritas and were offered a variety of frozen flavors but wanting to get a true basic margarita we opted for classic, on the rocks. The ‘ritas were very good and packed quite the punch :::wink, wink::: $6. Happy hour specials are $2 off the price of all appetizers except for the chips and salsa ($1.95)…they aren’t free here… and grilled elote ($3.95) We opted for the (homemade!!) chips and Guacamole de Casa (fresh, made to order, with jalapenos, cilantro, fresh lime, red onion, tomatoes $8.95 less $2). A little bit more on the mild side, but I still liked it’s smoothness and bright, fresh taste. We were adeptly walked through the menu and though suggestions such as Mesquite Grilled Romaine (fresh-cracked black pepper, olive oil, basil tomato concasse, gorgonzola cheese, smoked serranoo bacon, jalapeno cilantro dressing $8.95), La Diabla Chicken Pasta (red pepper linguine, spinach linguine, fresh jalapenos, chipotle cream, cotija cheese $14.95) and Chicken, Artichoke & Mushroom Stack (cilantro-pesto marinated chicken topped with artichoke stuffing, soy mustard cream and pepita seeds, served with mashed potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables $13.95) sounded AMAZING, I ended up forced to choose between mix and match tacos or mix and match enchiladas. I wanted to try them all! Sorely tempted by those singing the praises of the Wild Mushroom Enchiladas on Yelp (a mix of three wild mushrooms and jack cheese rolled in a corn tortilla topped with ancho mole cream, avocado relish and sour cream) and Beef Birria Enchiladas (slow braised beef birria, jack cheese, avocado cream), I went with the tacos, simply because I could try three different tacos instead of just two enchiladas. The tacos came on (again, homemade) corn tortillas and you can taste the difference from the purchased ones you usually receive in Mexican restaurants. I took the recommendation given and selected the Al Pastor (pork with roasted pineapple, jalapeno bacon, pickled red onion, cilantro), Beef Tenderloin Steak (chipotle pomegranate marinade, fried peppers, gorgonzola cheese) and Tropical Fish (grilled cod, salsa picante, mango, coconut cabbage mix, Oaxaca cheese salsa fresca). I thoroughly enjoyed all three and honestly couldn’t rank them. My friend chose the Beef Tenderloin, Achiote Braised Chicken (red bean pico, avocado, menonita cheese) and Oaxaca Shrimp (mixed cabbage slaw, avocado cream). She raved over the Chicken one. Tacos come with some slightly spicy and very good black beans and average rice topped with some fresh tomatoes. I’d be willing to come back tomorrow to try some of the choices I listed above but due to having to take taxi/Uber rides to and from our hotel, probably won’t. But would I go back? Heck yeah. If you picked this restaurant up and placed it in Charlotte, NC we’d be here every week. There’s some good cookin’ going on here, I wish them great success.

L & D Teriyaki Express – Menu with Prices – 1366 3rd Ave, Chula Vista

I was told I needed to try this place so we finally did. We ordered 3 meals and a side of egg rolls. The food is definitely good quality but the taste wasn’t that spot on. The bbq chicken was very good. Grilled perfectly juicy and roasted The bbq beef was more like thin carne asada grilled. A little over cooked for my taste The egg rolls and sweet & sour were good. The katsu was the most disappointing of all. The chicken was cooked more like chicken parm style not very crunchy like L&L. The macaroni was good but misssing something just that extra tang or sweetness that makes it taste great. The katsu sauce was very good as well as the teriyaki sauce. Over all this place is a ma&pa definitely worth checking out but for my taste the quality was there but the taste.

Taqueria El Compa Bp2 – Menu with Prices – 14055 W, FL-40, Ocala

I’ve been eyeballing this place for a couple months now but I don’t EVER use this gas station. I finally stopped in and I was not disappointed ? I ordered four of the tacos, all “Loaded” (lettuce, tomato, mozzarella, and sour cream) and each one with a different protein (carne asada, pollo, al pastor, & carnitas). They all could have used a little more meat in them, but the flavors were good. I also ordered the Enchiladas, these are not your typical rolled up flour tortilla that has been stuffed with a protein and then topped with a red sauce or mole sauce. INSTEAD, they fry up the tortillas and stuff them with a hefty amount of chicken and fold the torts and place them in the togo box. It is then topped with one of the BEST verde sauces I have EVER tasted (and it’s got a bit of a kick lol) and on top of that goes the lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. Needless to say, I’LL BE BACK!! The reason for only 4 stars was because of the lack of meat in the tacos and there was no place inside to sit and enjoy the food.

Viet Subs Cafe – Menu with Prices – Monument Rd, Jacksonville

Came here for lunch due to a recommendation of a friend. It’s a small spot (probably 10 top). The lady at the register was nice. The menu is slightly smaller than other Vietnamese places I’ve been to (but maybe they pride in quality over quantity?). I ordered some spring rolls. When I checked the yelp the pictures showed a bunch of shrimp to each spring rolls. But when I got mine there was only 3 pieces of shrimp per roll AND a mix of beef or pork? I’m not sure why the switch from a lot of shrimp to some shrimp and another meat, but it wasn’t bad. In the roll had sole good fresh greens and rice noodles. Normally it comes with peanut sauce but the wife has a nut allergy so they switched it to their version of ‘sweet and sour.’ It wasn’t bad but it could have used a stronger sweet and sour flavor to it. It was a very faint flavor of a little tang/sour and some sweet. I ordered the philly (cheese) steak banh mi. At first you think they sandwich is small which technically to me it is (check picture;nickel for reference). But after I ate sandwich, I felt STUFFED! Maybe because the meat and cheese is dense? Anyways, it came with a good amount of mixed flavors. First the bread had crunch but ALSO still had chew to it (I hate hard crunchy bread). I don’t think the beef had any sauce/marinade but the combo of beef and the melted cheese they used had a good savory/steak component to it. It wasn’t to salty or anything. To add to the savory, there were julienned pickled carrots (it’s wasn’t heavily pickled/sour to those asking; it was only a slight sour with a little hint sweet, to me) and cucumbers to added the ‘freshness’ elements to it. Then there were some cilantro on it and a few pieces of jalapeños. I like spicy food but I hate the taste of jalapeños, but I like to try everything “as is” the first time, so this sandwich had some. It wasn’t bad with the jalapeños but I would still go without it in the future. But if you like them/spicy, just keep it on.

Silvia’s Taqueria Menu with Prices 7301 Matlock Rd, Arlington

I give them a four because I did the math averaging what I would rate each of the three tacos I got and it came to an even 4. First taco, the corn El Pastor, no cilantro with onions, the sour cream, green sauce and red sauce. It was amazing a solid 5, I don’t like pork but I’d thought I would be adventurous and man am I glad I did. Flavorful and just Umm. Second taco Chicharron taco, the reason this rating isn’t a 5 because this thing was a two at best. Chicharron is supposed to be crispy pork skin or belly this was neither I don’t think it was like someone took pork fat and tried and failed to pan fry it. It was slimy and mushy and I knew the moment I touched it I was going to have a funky texture in my mouth and I came this close to not even eating it but I decide one bite wouldn’t kill me (If I stop reviewing after this review then tomorrow that assumption maybe wrong) I put the sour cream, green sauce, red sauce and I feel like wasted those delicious sauce it really was slimy and kind of just slipped down my throat, I couldn’t finish it. The third taco was easily my favorite would have given it a six but that would have been cheating. The beef fajita on flour it was really good with the sour cream, green sauce and red sauce. Also those sauces are to died for, next time I got in I think I’m going to see what it would take to get a bottle of the stuff (don’t think they will but I can try).

Liuyishou Hotpot Flushing – Menu with Prices – 136-76 39th Ave, Flushing

Hot pot at Liuyishou was definitely an experience. My friend and I came here on a busy Saturday night and were seated after about a 20 minute wait. We were pretty hungry so ended up ordering way too much. We started the meal with panfried beef rolls which are essentially Chinese pancakes wrapped with thin slices of beef and sauce. They charge an extra $3 or so for the unlimited sauce and fruit/side-dishes bar which I think is worth it. The broths we picked were the original spicy beef soup base and non-spicy pork rib soup base. The beef broth was too spicy for me but the pork broth was really rich and flavorful. The hot pot ingredients we ordered included the beef/lamb platter, fresh tofu, king oyster mushrooms, Chinese cabbage, a-choy, and fish balls. Everything was really fresh, and the meat platter was more than enough for the two of us. Lastly, our waiters were attentive and terrific. This was the best hot pot experience I’ve ever had, and I hope one opens in Chicago soon!
