An amazing place in downtown Brownsville. Fantastic food – their pizzas are traditional and are true Sicilian style. I can’t say enough about the food, people and atmosphere. I have so many positive things to say about this place it’s difficult to cram into a succinct review. Just trust me. This place isn’t just good compared to Valley restaurants – it’s comparable to food found anywhere in great restaurants in Texas. You will be treated well and enjoy your meal. Oh, and I’ve completely neglected their fantastic selection of wines that are reasonably priced and not so easy to find in South Texas. This place is making downtown Brownsville feel alive again – and I applaud the leadership and vision it took to get it rolling as well as the management and staff that will seemingly keep it rolling for many years. Enjoy!!!

Angelita’s Casa De Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2200 Boca Chica Blvd suite 116, Brownsville

Ok. Let’s see how I can start this. I’m speechless. This place is far, far beyond what I expected it to be. I moved away from Brownsville about 4 years ago and coming back every so often I don’t get to check many new things out in town since I’m usually here to spend time with family and friends. One night a buddy and I had dinner but wanted to continue our convo and asked him if there were any coffee shops around town that was still open at the time that had at best, decent coffee. He pondered for a moment and 5 minutes later we ended up coming here. Now, every time I visit Brownsville I’ll make it a ritual to visit angelitas every time. The coffee was damn near perfect. 10/10 The pastries/desert options were fantastic. 10/10 The environment was nothing like I remember Brownsville being like when I left. So laid back? Great lighting, not too bright not too dark. Live music to bring the place alive and to enjoy some entertainment while sipping on your cup of happiness. To the owners, the workers, and the entire business. Keep up what you’re doing, you’re definitely representing Brownsville in the best way by giving people a great spot to enjoy without having to go out on the weekend and partying. Thank you!

Palasad South – Menu with Prices – 141 Pine Valley Blvd, London

We hosted a staff appreciation event at Palasad South. It was great. Our group of around 80 people had the option to play laser tag, bowl or billiards throughout the afternoon. Everyone had so much fun! Our servers Morgan and Taylor were fantastic and very accommodating. We were very impressed with the service throughout the day. They were not only prompt and accurate, but also extremely pleasant and patient with our large group. Booking the event with Tiffany was easy and stress free. She made sure that everything was taken care of so at the actual event everyone was able to enjoy themselves worry free. She was a pleasure to deal with and made the whole planning process fun. Thanks Palasad South for a wonderful afternoon! PS. The compliments on the food keep rolling in from our staff

The Wine Feed | Pine and Poplar – Menu with Prices – 307 S Roxboro St, Durham

Bottom line: This downtown Durham location of The Wine Feed is just as awesome as their Raleigh location, and there is more space to fill in what they do best…sell, serve, and impart knowledge on wines. The garage vibe is good here, I like it. Another five stars for The Wine Feed! The Deets: Quite by surprise in trying to head to Bull City Ciderworks this past weekend, we came up to the new location grand opening of The Wine Feed in downtown Durham. I’ve been to their original downtown Raleigh location and love it, and this location does not disappoint either. In fact, it’s a huge massive space compared to their Raleigh location. It’s kind of a garage feel and I am digging it. There’s a nice long bar to the right of the space to buy/enjoy a glass of your choice, a great wine shop in the middle of it, and to the left appears to be an evolving type of events space. As with their original spot, these guys offer great wines for any occasion and for every taste. Plus, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and happy to impart that knowledge to you when asked for or needed. They had a sparkling wine tasting to celebrate their official grand opening and all were great but unique, with staff careful to explain the background and importance of each tried. This type of service as well as selection make these guys stand out. I feel the same way about the Durham location of The Wine Feed as I do with the Raleigh one…five stars!

Children’s Museum of Brownsville – Menu with Prices – 501 E Ringgold St, Brownsville

This place will really surprise you. We have been here many times and it is always neat, tidy and clean. The exhibits are fun for the kids – H-E-B Market to play grocery store, Dr Bones where you get to be a doctor or dentist, All Worlds Cafe where you can run a restaurant, and the 5 News Weather Center where you can pretend to forecast the weather in front of a green screen. My 6 year old begs to come here when we are in town and she would spends hours here if she could. This place plus the Gladys Porter Zoo are real gems for tiny Brownsville and compete with similar facilities in bigger and wealthier cities. Great place to head to if its a rainy beach day on South Padre Island. Well done Brownsville!!!

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken Menu with Prices 61 E Waterloo Rd, Akron

This is a mixed bag, but the core, chicken, is fantastic. It is slightly spicy without much heat. Coming from south east Texas, with family on the Louisiana side of the river, I grew up on great Cajun food. Given all of the other options out there, this is one of the best I have come across. I also had the red beans and rice. I was not a fan. They have dices tomato’s added. Not sure what that is about, but I think it is trying to be a jambalaya type dish. It does not work. The texture is mushy and the flavor is bland. Hush puppies. While I think they are frozen, I can not say that they are not made on prom and frozen or just bought frozen. It matters not, they are still pretty good. While they are not what you will get heading down south, they are perfectly fine for NE Ohio. I was told to give the greens a spin next go round which I will do. So, I had three piece mixed, red beans and rice and hush puppies. All for less then $8.00. The service is fantastic and they do have take out if you need to grab and go.

Prima Classe Italian Market & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 842 1st St, Miami Beach

Prima Classe is a casual italian cafe/mini grocery/wine shop South of Fifth. Their salume and cheeses can be purchased in various combinations to eat in (which includes crostini as well as olive oil & balsamic as condiments) or to go. The fennel salami is extra amazing, but judge for yourself: employees are generous with providing free samples. In addition to the cafe fare, Prima Classe sells a small but high quality selection of baked goods/desserts – breads, cannoli, tiramisu – as well as dried pasta, jarred sauce, italian condiments, and wine. Everything I’ve tried so far – meats, cheeses, tiramisu, wines – have been fantastic and not overpriced (esp for the beach). Great place to pick up wine & cheese on the way to South Point for sunset picnic!

Dalay Cakes Things and More – Menu with Prices – 228 Paredes Line Rd, Brownsville

Best cake I have ever tasted!! We searched everywhere in Brownsville for the perfect cake for our wedding. And after checking out 6 of the most well known cake shops in Brownsville we check out Dalay Cakes. I was never a fan of a cake with fondant until i tried their cake. Of course they make their own fondant but this was like no other. Easy to cut, easy to bite into and melts in your mouth. And best of all, not too sweet or sugary. Our wedding cake was a hit with our guests. If you want the best cake in town for the same price if not cheaper than the others then this is the place! But, don’t take my word for it. Stop by for a sample and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Day Break Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 1403 Avenue F, Lubbock

This is NOT a coffeehouse. They do not serve any mochas, or frappachinos, or caffe americanos… but what they DO provide are some of the best roasted beans in Texas (and they will ship them to you)!! Set in an industrial warehouse area near downtown Lubbock (right off I-27 heading south), it’s not hard to find, and you can park in the street. Your best bet is to go to www.dbcr.com and order your beans; if you’re in Lubbock, you can pick them up a couple of hours after you make your selection. If you roast your own beans, Day Break offers green beans as well; I picked up a pound of Guatemalan beans the other day, and roasted a few as soon as I got home. The brewed coffee that resulted was incredible! Any questions? Just contact Kayla Hernandez at 806/687-6887.

Vintage Vino – Menu with Prices – 14 E Dakin Ave, Kissimmee

My favorite place to go for a flight of wine. John waited on us and was friendly, kind, and generous. I wanted to find a place with a great price for a flight of Wines and happy hour for my friends in downtown Kissimmee, FL and I found Vintage Vino online. I loved the service and two of the Wines. The Riesling and Peach Moscato wine were delightfully sweet, addictive, and yummy. My friends and I loved the Ambience. I adored the giant wine glasses and the fact he placed the bottle of wine by each glass. We each had three wine glasses of wine for each flight. The wine was ample too. $12 a flight unless it had more expensive Wines. Happy hour had $4 select Wines and beers. Dinner from nearby restaurants are served here – so convenient. The bathroom area required a punch in number password for Vintage Vino. Service was not the quickest but we managed to get our refills and food soon enough. The furniture and seating was very comfortable and inviting. I was very happy to come, relax, and chat here with friends! I will definitely come here again and again. My go see wine place in Kissimmee, FL!

Seafood Bar Mariscos La Cacho – Menu with Prices – 3120 Main St, Chula Vista

I have to use a star to rate otherwise it would be 0 stars. I love food even if sometimes it’s not so tasty I enjoy it but when it comes to customer service I expect the best. I’ve been to McDonalds with better customer service and they get the rudest people sometimes. This restaurant was over priced and has loss quality since the last time I purchased food here. I would rather go to a mariscos food truck with limited supplies over this place. It was empty there was about 6 people including us. There was enough waitresses and yet we never got asked if we wanted to order anything else (and we did). Also, I would like to add after being neglected as customers our waitress started sweeping around us and even swept my feet and didn’t acknowledge it. If you use yelp as much as I do, Reconsider coming to this place. There are far better places around the corner from here that you can enjoy good mariscos rather than this place. Management, I recommend customer service training to your staff.

La Familia Bakery – Menu with Prices – 4622 Paredes Line Rd, Brownsville

La Familia I think is the best bakery in Brownsville, and I have tried several bakery’s around town from hole in the wall to a more established places. I continue to be satisfied with the all the baked goods offered by La Familia Bakery. Most of the items run from ¢15 – ¢25 a piece. La Familia has the one of the biggest selections in Brownsville. One stop here, and I guarantee you will keep coming back.

Market Street Eats – Menu with Prices – 36 Market St, Portland

This is the place to eat! I’ve lived in Maine for 50 years, and seen plenty of restaurants and sandwich shops come and go in downtown Portland. This one is a keeper. The owner, Nick, is hands-on and as friendly and accommodating as they get. After reviewing several eateries in greater Portland, we selected Market Street Eats and placed a last-minute order for a large sandwich platter, accompanied by a fruit platter. Nick was responsive, went above and beyond, and met our needs perfectly – even packing and carrying the order to our car himself. Oh, and the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced! Be sure to stop in here, and ask to try something with the thai mayo. Or the curried chicken. Or the buffalo chicken. Or one of the fun roast beef sandwiches. Or…or… the list goes on and on… Suffice it to say, we found Market Street Eats to be fantastic all around (and my husband is the pickiest eater ever.) Thanks, Nick!
