I was told about this wonderful joint from a coworker so I decided to give it a shot. When you walk in immediately you notice the place is very small, with no dining available inside. The food here is amazing though and makes up for the space itself. All the times I have been I have been greeted by the same gal, who I presume is the owner. She is always very friendly and cheerful and is a pleasure to deal with. Since the first time I’ve been I always order the same thing, the chicken salad sandwich. THIS IS THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH ON EARTH (or at least in Boise). The bread appears to be baked fresh as it is always moist and fluffy. The sandwich comes with green leaf, chicken salad, cheese and cashews, I always have her add cucumbers. Price with a meal, chips and drink is reasonable at about $6.50 for half a sandwich. I couldn’t imagine trying to eat a full portion as the half is plenty. This is truly a wonderful quick lunch option.

Hamilton Place Cafe – Menu with Prices – 20101 Hamilton Ave # 180, Torrance

I know the saying is “eat where the locals eat” but I’ve also noticed that “eat where the FedEx peeps eat” works in a pinch. This is one of those places I “ended up at” and discovered a wonderful cafe for the local inhabitants of this business complex. This actually is a beautiful complex and a nice cafe. There’s about 10 good sized booths and another dozen chairs at the counter as well as 5 outdoor tables. I’m guessing that you’ll run into a lunch crowd because they do a brisk business. But since most of the local office crowd gets half an hour for lunch, breakfast time is light (9am to 11am) and 1pm till 2:20pm is also open. Although they close at 4, they turn the grill off a bit before 3p or when they sell out of the lunch specials. After that they still have beautiful cold cut or salad sandwiches ( I love the chicken salad sandwich and will gladly walk it off an extra 15 minutes a day.) Today I got the daily special: Chicken Alfredo, small salad, medium fountain drink, half slice cheese bread for $6. You can usually find one or two specials a day and plenty of grilled items. I only wish I had time to explore the breakfast menu (I mean, I’m sleeping when they are doing breakfast, aren’t you?) My favorites are the Veggie burger ($3.50) and the Veggie Sandwich ($3), Hamburger ($2.95)(also options for bacon or cheese burgers), and the grilled chicken sandwich ($5). And fries –gotta have fries with the burger, a mini salad bar (sold by weight), a fridge of assorted juices and sodas, and a snack rack with, of all things, baked Doritos and Ruffles, assorted cookies and “full flavored” chips. 20101 Hamilton is around the corner from the Del Amo Blvd. / Figueroa intersection (Figueroa is on one side of the 110 frwy and Hamilton on the other.) On Hamilton there’s a Linder’s Furniture and it’s right across from that. Plenty of parking and a security person who, no doubt, will be able to direct you across the open court yard to the Hamilton Place Cafe. (310) 532-2353

Emma Cleary’s Cafe Menu with Prices 400 Patroon Creek Blvd, Albany

There are few choices in the Patroon Creek Blvd area when it comes to lunch time without having to drive out of the complex and spend a great deal of time hunting for food. This little cafe spot is small but they pack their limited menu with very tasty options. Friendly staff and I feel lucky this little gem is tucked into the medical building. Every day there’s a special of a half sandwich with a soup. Sometimes they have some specials including buffalo mac and cheese or taco salads. They keep their Facebook mostly up-to-date on a daily basis as to what their specials are. Chicken Noodle soup is a constant on their menu, but they typically have 3 to 4 additional soups every day that are all nice and varied. Baked desserts are tasty and look great. And the only downside to their salads, for me, is they use a mixed green lettuce leaf. Some people might prefer this but I’m more happy with a romaine lettuce leaf.

Honeybaked Ham and Cafe – Menu with Prices – 7200 Peach St, Erie

I had no idea that the Honey Baked Han Company had actual delis so when I was looking for a sandwich while working in Erie, I figured I would come and give this place a try. This little shop offers a decent amount of options for a quick lunch while also giving you a place to pickup full desserts and even some big honey baked hams (but like, yum). I ordered a standard honey baked ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and some wonderful sauce that made me like the sandwich even more (seriously, it was delicious). The sandwich itself didn’t come with anything else so I picked up a can of sprite ($1.99) and a bag of BBQ chips (I think $1.50) and it made for a pretty filling meal. Overall, if you want a ham sandwich this is probably where you want to go. The place was clean, the food was good, and the prices weren’t bad either. Most important, honey baked ham is deciduous and I’m definitely going to be ordering one for thanksgiving.

Faye’s Subs and Salads Menu with Prices 311 3rd St, Baton Rouge

Faye’s Subs & Salads is well known to the Downtown lunch crowd. It is a locally run sandwich, salad, and wrap shop that is a nice alternative to the franchise places. They have a variety of subs that you can customize with your favorite add-ons. You can get these with chips and a drink, but those in the know will tell you to get the homestyle potato salad instead if there is any left (it sells out sometimes). They have baked chips as well if you would like to eat a bit healthier. I also like the wraps, these have three flavors of tortillas to choose from. I think the Spicy Turkey on wheat is a particularly good choice! The salads are popular too, and everything is reasonably priced. Of course you can get these items to go, but there is plenty of seating in an area decorated with local artwork. So, forget the franchise places, and come by Faye’s to fulfill your sandwich needs.

Thank U Chicken – Menu with Prices – 3473 Old Norcross Rd, Duluth

Thank U Chicken has a cool vibe with all the blue lighting, and it feels very intimate. Although there’s lots of vibrant chatter, you can still hear the people you’re with. Service is great, and they have a button on the side that you press to call your server with. If you order a lot, they bring out dishes periodically so it doesn’t feel like you’re waiting forever. We ordered the half fried chicken and half yang nyum chicken platter, which comes with four seasonal sides and a salad. I also ordered beef rice balls and a pineapple fresh fruit juice. The platter is a bit expensive, but it comes with a lot and is filling for two people. The four seasonal sides and salad came out first. This included fried gizzards, potatoes, cheese corn, and chips and salsa. The gizzards were good but oily. I liked the seasoning, but it was heavy. The corn was okay; we’ve had better cheese corn. The cheese was a little watery. The potatoes were good; I liked the sauce on top, which reminded me of sriracha mayo. The chips and salsa didn’t really stand out; they were also okay. The chips weren’t too salted and the salsa was watery, but hey, this is a Korean restaurant! The salad tasted like a regular Caesar salad. Honestly, I wouldn’t get the platter again, since it just comes with the sides and salad. The few times I’ve been, the beef rice balls haven’t been cooked consistently. Sometimes they come out piping hot, sometimes lukewarm, and sometimes cold. I think they taste AMAZING when they’re piping hot. The rice is moist, but there’s only a slight flavor to these. I like the subtlety of the rice balls. The chicken here is very meaty! I’m not a huge fan of yang nyum chicken, so I always eat my boyfriend eat most of it. It’s mostly sweet and slightly tangy, though you can argue it’s a TINY bit spicy. I prefer to dip my chicken in the sauces they provide, so I like the fried chicken, which isn’t seasoned on its own. I think the Korean fried chicken here is unique in that you HAVE to dip the chicken in sauce for it to have flavor. If you like pre-seasoned and marinated chicken, go somewhere else for KFC or just order yang nyum. The chicken isn’t that crunchy, but it’s super hot and juicy on the inside. They’ve given me three sauces in the past: the yang nyum sauce, a sriracha mayo, and a sweet soy sauce. My favorite is the sriracha mayo! The pineapple fresh juice comes in a cute cup, and it’s not too sweet. It’s made with real pineapple, which is nice. No fruit chunks, and it’s kind of foamy. Thank U Chicken is a fine place for KFC, but now that so many shops have opened up, I prefer to go elsewhere for the price point and flavor.

Mulberry BBQ – Menu with Prices – 2441 N 11th St, Lincoln

Amazing BBQ. I would say the best in town. The ribs are smoked in just a way it doesn’t fall off the bone, but is juicy and tender. They were dry rubbed ribs and perfectly seasoned. And there was a lot of meat on those bones. The pulled pork wasn’t dried out like other BBQ places in this town. The burnt ends were actually moist and tender with a nice spicy kick to it. Unlike other places, where the burnt ends might as well be beef jerky due to the toughness. The smoked chicken was actually half of a whole chicken and amazingly juicy. The sliced brisket was also amazing with a nice spice to it. The potato salad had a homemade quality to it and tasted great. The Mac n Cheese was super cheesy with large shells instead of the normal elbow noodles. You could tell it was made from scratch unlike the made from a box taste other restaurants will serve. The only think surprising is the bbq beans. It isn’t the normal beans you maybe familiar with. They must be more of a North Carolina style of baked beans. Not the normal Bush’s Baked beans others are serving. Still the beans were good, but with a lot of kick to it. So if you like some spiciness, you should try the beans and the burnt ends. For the price, you get plenty of delicious BBQ.

Woody’s Smoke Shack – Menu with Prices – 2511 Cottage Grove Ave, Des Moines

I’ll admit, we ordered Grubhub from Stew’s just because it was new and we were too lazy to think about dinner. We never tried Woody’s but the Grubhub driver said Woody’s is under new management, now known as Stew’s. We both ordered the meal deal. Herself got the pulled chicken and ordered cheesy potatoes and mac and cheese. I got the quarter rack, cole slaw and apples. First issue, how good is their cheesy anything that they were out of both cheesy potatoes and mac and cheese by 6:37? But, GH called us in time to tell us they were out of both and let us substitute green and baked beans. I found the ribs slightly spiced, moist, tender, and flavorful. However, the cole slaw was too creamy and the apples too sweet. Herself said the chicken was dry but the BBQ sauced solved that. The baked beans were fine and the burnt ends were an unexpected addition. The green beans were far from al dente (closer to mushy than not) with no discernible flavor. The corn bread was dense, slightly sweet and somewhere between dry and gummy. Upside, the portions were generous and hot. The delivery was on time and the price was very reasonable. Personally, we will stick with Smoky D’s.

Willy’s Eatery Menu with Prices 5127, 2101 E Ball Rd, Anaheim

When I first went to Willy’s back in 1999!….they had something called “World’s 2nd Best Chicken Sandwich”. I thought it was so funny and wondered who was the World’s Best. But it turned out that they were being overly humble! This place has the WORLD’S BEST chicken sandwich! I always get the Southwestern Chicken Sandwich which has a nice slice of green chile…..the chicken is moist and tender. It’s the shredded kind, not the thick filet that’s hard to chew and rubbery at most other places. This sandwich melts in your mouth and is SOOO good. It is the BEST chicken sandwich of any other food place I’ve ever had! And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Everyone else I take over there says the same thing! For 20 years, I haven’t eaten a chicken sandwich that’s better than the one at Willy’s. Go and see for yourself!

Giancarlo’s Sports Bar – Menu with Prices – 1865 Commercial Dr, Vancouver

Went here for the second time in the past year when I was in the neighbourhood. STILL a great place to grab a $10 soup and sandwich!!! Hearty soup and yummy sandwiches. Usually 1-2 soups made daily with like 8-10 sandwiches choices. This time I had the Lentil soup( just like mama used to make me), and the Turk sandwich( turkey, cheese mayo, lettuce tomato grilled like a panini, delish! My mom had the chicken salad( chicken cucumbers tomatoes, peppers, goat cheese and a tasty vinegrette, she looooooved it! Thanks for being a chill, friendly place to visit , just like cheers, you get all characters, it is “the drive” of course!!!

Saigon Block – Menu with Prices – 2150 Arapaho Rd, Richardson

This was the best Vietnamese dining experience ever. The food was delicious and the authentic. We ordered the medium sized baked fish for a party of four and it was plenty. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was surprised how moist the fish was considering it was baked. I expected it to be dry, but instead it was moist. There were sprinkles of toasted garlic and green onion covering the fish that helped compliment the soft fish. There’s plenty of leafy greens and herbs for the spring rolls that came out with the fish. The combination of the warm crispy fish with the fresh vegetables feels light and flavorful. The textures in this dish was helped enhance flavor of each wrap. We also ordered the imperial spring rolls and beef three way. We ate the beef rolls by wrapping it in lettuce and dipping it in the sauce. I really enjoyed the imperial spring roll. There was what felt like a crispy egg roll wrapped in the inside. When I bit into the spring roll it was warm and savory.

C.R. Chicks (Village Blvd.) – Menu with Prices – 731 Village Blvd Ste 108, West Palm Beach

Went there for the 1st time tonight. Food was awful. rotisserie chicken was good. Barbecue chicken sandwich was awful. The salad tasted like it was half frozen and the dressing with so awful we had to go request a different dressing. The rice and beans were cold. all of our food came to the table except for my CHICKEN!!! had to go ask for it and they didn’t know what I ordered. Macaroni and cheese with 4 cheese and bacon was God-awful there was no bacon (I brought it to the manager and asked if there was bacon in it and he said yes?) in the macaroni and cheese and tasted like the pasta came right from the water and into a processed powdered cheese sauce!!!! I actually give it back to a manager and told him to eat it!!! Save your money go next door to Publix and get a rotisserie chicken and a bunch of sides for half the price and twice the quality!!!

The Robin’s Nest – Menu with Prices – 311 Main St, Salt Lake City

The Robin’s Nest opened their doors more than fifteen years ago, and I can say with certainty that everything is just as good, if not better, than what they originally rolled out with. (And what she debuted with was damn good!) They make the most delicious chicken salad sandwich that I’ve ever eaten. The Rooster Call is served on a warm ciabatta bun that’s as soft as a cloud, and the chicken salad has just-right sized pieces of red grapes, cashews and minced onion. No big chunks of anything, just the perfect blend of yumminess. Crisp lettuce, melted cheese…. The sandwiches include a small side cup of their orzo pasta. It’s a nice, unique medley of tasty pasta, olive oil, herbs, toasted pine nuts, fresh basil and some other secret ingredients. It’s seriously fantastic. The service is fast, the food is consistent, fresh, and top notch. In the future I’d love to try the other menu items, but as soon as it’s time to order, I keep going back to the Rooster Call because it’s so incredible. Five stars, rightly earned!!!!
