Since we moved to the Eastside we’ve heard about this popular sugar factory located in the posh Bell Square with its many celebrity visitors. Our friends’ 11 year old wanted to have his birthday party here and as he was king for the day who could argue. The front is a candy shop with cookies, fudge, and various sweets available all with a humble backdrop of wall to wall celebrity pictures of famous people who’ve visited. Behind this is the dining room which apparently is usually low lit with music and lights like a nightclub, but tonight it was just a regular basic b room. We hit a snag as soon as we arrived. We showed up on time for our reservation and even though the place was empty they hadn’t prepared our table and we stood in the front for 15 minutes. As they seated us we looked over the elaborate menu of fun candy themed drinks, chocolate sprinkle dunked milkshakes, and curious savory sweet burgers. I asked the server if she or the bartender knew of any drinks that were safe for gluten free and she immediately set the tone for the rest of the evening, which was that she really couldn’t be bothered by myself or the father of the birthday boy who are both Celiac. Now, myself and our friend are both pretty easy going. We feel a little embarrassed we have to always be difficult when eating out and we aren’t picky. We just ask that the server (or at least their manager) be somewhat knowledgeable about the food they are serving and we’ll eat just about anything that’s gf. For the fun mixed drinks we were told they buy everything in bulk (syrups and what not) and none of their cocktails are actually crafted in house so they have no idea what’s in them. Definitely disappointing as we’d have loved to try what they are so well known for but wine it is! Now as we began asking about the food we got the same apathetic reply. She didn’t know what was gf and could we just hurry up and tell her our orders. We went with what seemed safest on the menu, I had the filet and he the filet and lobster. They brought out my $50 steak and his market priced surf in turf and there were no potatoes on mine..well apparently they put flour in their potatoes as a filler and didn’t bother to come inform me or offer a substitute for removing one of the sides off my $50 plate. Our friends surf and turf had the potatoes on his plate and had to be taken back. I have several issues here starting with the absurd price of the steak in a restaurant that isn’t a steakhouse. Apparently you pay for fame not quality of ingredients and product here, but it was my only gf option I was given. Next they elected to just remove a component off this fifty dollar plate without informing the customer or offering a substitution or allowing me to change my order..and then of course they served an allergen to my allergic friend. It took them over 30 minutes to refire his meal. The other 5 of us had already finished and there was only one other family of 4 in the whole restaurant. It was a pretty disappointing meal. I give credit where it’s due so a couple stars for the novelty of the menu and cocktail list deserves a shout out as well as the manager removing the two meals off our large bill. However, this really does not excuse their ignorance to a common food allergy. They are not only a restaurant where they should make it their business to know what’s in the food they feed their customers, but they are also a restaurant in the heart of Bellevue. I give more allowances to a small mom and pops diner in Nebraska, but here in the Seattle area there is no excuse for treating customers with a genetic allergy as if they aren’t as valuable as the next customer.

Port of Call Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1425 E 27th St, Tacoma

We stayed at La Quinta and did not feel like going out for dinner so we thought we would try the hotel restaurant., We were debating between just ordering room service or having a sit-down meal in the restaurant. We opted for the restaurant and had a very nice experience. We went on a Friday evening, around 7pm, and the restaurant was not very busy – only about 4 other tables occupied. The decor was nice and comfortable. My husband ordered bacon wrapped filet mignon and prawns and I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon – both with the garlic mashed potatoes. Our dinner came with steamed veggies that were very tasty. The steaks were wonderful – cooked just the way we ordered and good quality. My only complaint (if you could call it that) was that I wish they had used more of a seasoning on the steak when they cooked it. The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty. Our server was fabulous! Our meal was delivered in a timely fashion. All of the staff was very helpful and courteous. Next time we stay in the Tacoma area, we will definitely remember this restaurant.

Bay Cafe Inc – Menu with Prices – 5036 W Esplanade Ave, Metairie

This is a really solid place for the food that hits you in your grease-cravings – and I do say that in a positive way. We intended to go to another restaurant in the area but it turned out to be closed on Mondays. But Mondays is one of the three steak nights at Bay Cafe, so each of us got a $12 16oz ribeye (or 8oz filet) with sides. I think it was a great deal, but it didn’t make that much sense to order half the amount of meat for the same price (yes I know filet can be expensive but this was the more economic decision). I initially wanted the grilled salmon but they were out that night. The service was slightly slower, but we weren’t in a rush. They were not cleaning up tables very quickly and the seating is limited, but again, none of this really hindered our experience. The food tastes great, and we loved the Bay potatoes that comes as the default side (cheesy, salty mashed potatoes), and the steaks came out perfectly cooked. I’m not sure if I would visit again soon because of how heavy the food was, but I’m sure anyone out trying to get a few beers would love a hearty meal.

Mikoto Express – Menu with Prices – 1400 Walter Reed Rd, Fayetteville

Long time customer, even worked there over a decade ago. Went there today and the steak taste like it was rotten. I couldn’t bare the taste without gagging and approached them to make it right, but instead the manager told me that there was nothing he could do. I just feel like even though this may have been a bad steak, they let this one incident ruin the business I give to them. I am a Real Estate Agent and have introduced this location to others etc. But now, I will refer no one. The meal I had today was disgusting and the manager Alex could care less and made it clear. #BadService #MikotoExpress

Even Par Sports Bar – Menu with Prices – 5100 US Hwy 98 N # 13, Lakeland

Its that small hole in the wall bar. Prices arent bad the pours are standard. Had decent drinks and conversation while my car was being washed. I just wish they opened earlier. I have to time my car wash with the hours of operation.

Fish Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4360 Gulf Shore Blvd N Ste 600, Naples

There are lots of restaurants in Naples Florida and the competition is great. Most of our dining experiences were lovely and some exceeded our expectations. However, Fish Restaurant was very disappointing. The restaurant itself was located on the water, which was great for atmosphere. The menu items and selections were to be expected for a restaurant of this caliber. But we recognized, very quickly, that all the staff and support servers were not friendly or accommodating. Frankly they were distracted and stoic in natureâ?¦like robots without a personality. We figured it was because they were busy, with no time to have conversations with their guests. Hello, dining at a restaurant is not just about eating. Our server, in particular, was not on his â??gameâ? and did not follow thru with our ordinary requests; like providing us with the wine list when we asked, a lemon for my water, and a knife to cut the steak. On a good note, we were very satisfied with the salads we ordered. I had the artichoke salad, which was fabulous! I thoroughly enjoyed its flavors and uniqueness. Yum all around! When our main meals came, they were a big letdown. The filet mignon was poorly cooked and served on a huge plate with no other garnish or side dish, which made the presentation hugely disappointing. (A sprig of rosemary or parsley would have helpedâ?¦and maybe a few pieces of asparagus or baby red potatoes would dress up the dish?) We are not asking much, but the huge, white plate with a tiny, naked $36 filet was poorly executed. I blame the server for not telling us that side dishes were al a carte with the steak. If we knew that, we would have ordered a side dish! The Red fish I ordered sounded delicious as described in the menu. It was presented with a side of vegetables, which were very good. The Red fish, unfortunately, was overcooked and dry. I could not eat half of it. We eat out a lot (4-5 times a week) and rarely complain. Our disappointment with the food at Fish Restaurant was worth sharing with our server just for the fact of letting them know they need to step it up to keep up the competition. When I carefully told him about our disappointment, he looked at me as if he never heard anyone give him constructive feedback before. The bill came and he did take $11.95 off the bill. (The Red fish meal was $32). The bottom line: the food can be forgiven. Chefâ??s make mistakes, especially when the restaurant is very busy and they are rushing. But, the overall feeling at the restaurant was not friendly or enjoyable, so we will not be eating at Fish Restaurant again. I blame that on that on the management.

Faialense Sport Club – Menu with Prices – 1121 Cambridge St, Cambridge

Good food and good crowd. Seafood is fresh. And the atmosphere was amazing. We got to know and got talking to the people who were sitting right next to us. They even shared with us their homemade desserts. It was such a fun atmosphere. It felt really nice to be welcomed and be part of a community. It was definitely a different experience. The food was also fresh and the drinks were good too. The only thing is when we come back, we have to go early so that by the time our food arrives, we arent so hungry and almost past our hunger. But this is not their fault. They arent restaurant style/type. We knew this but we had to try it. We should have gone there right when they open. What I noticed is that the people cooking are great at what they do but they dont treat the ticket orders as how restaurants do. We notice that maybe due to the small kitchen, they fire up one dish at a time. So we noticed all of the fish steak dish coming out for the entire dining room, then comes next the shrimp dish etc. Then the steak…so the food for our table didnt come out all at the same time and we all didnt eat at the same time. But thats okay, we decided to share it as family style instead so we can all eat and have something. Next time, we know what to expect. The best thing about this place is that you have that table for the entire night! No one is rushing you to leave! Quite a concept for american diners isn’t it? We’ll be back!

SteakStonehouse – Menu with Prices – 2029 Lynnhaven Pkwy, Virginia Beach

I’ve dined here twice and have left feeling more than underwhelmed each time. When I was in Europe I had the opportunity to eat one of the most incredible steaks of my life with a hot stone on the table situation. Unfortunately, there is no comparison between that experience and this one. I have to point out the vibe of this place throws me off every time. There is this very Texas-style wall covering, with nautical elements? They have several Taiwanese and other Asian-inspired menu items, but no hint to that in the decor choices. Curtains with license plates? I don’t know- it’s all distracting. My first visit was during lunch. I was surprised that the server didn’t explain the concept to us, but it didn’t take me long to figure out you can eat faster once you cut your meat up and let each piece cook. The filet was good, but nothing that made me say “wow” or want more. The fries were bleh, seasonless, crinkle cut fries. The vegetables weren’t great, way over saturated with the sauce and they didn’t taste fresh. The lunch price was good, so I was willing to give them another shot. Maybe I would have a better experience during dinner service. So, a few weeks later they got their second shot. This time I went with a friend and we split the steak stone house entree. It had steak, shrimp, scallops, and chicken. I wanted to try it all! We also got mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were pretty good. Not seasoned, but probably the best part of the meal. The mashed potatoes tasted “instant.” I’m no stranger to powdered potatoes and I’d be surprised if these aren’t. Maybe I should have tried it with the gravy. The meats were all… just meat. Zero seasoning except for the salt on the stone. They give you a basket of generic sauces like A1, ketchup, and tabasco sauce. I put some tabasco sauce on the chicken, but it was pretty much inedible. They slice it thin and cook it (again, no seasoning). While I appreciated not having to risk that stone undercooking my chicken, it wasn’t good at all. The portion was generous, almost to the point where I wonder if they gave us extra steak. Unfortunately since it was so generous, the stone went cold before we could finish cooking everything. I now see in the pictures that they have a “sauce menu” with a few more adventurous sauces? Maybe trying some of the non-grocery selection sauces would have made things better. Still hard to overcome unseasoned meat though no matter how good the sauce is. Our server didn’t offer us any special sauces and she was so busy that we didn’t get much attention from her anyways. All the servers were practically running around the dining room the entire dinner service. There were a few large parties on top of typical Friday night traffic. Our server was super friendly and helpful when she was able to swing by our table. They also have seafood boils, soups, and noodles on the menu. Maybe that stuff is better. I just went for what the restaurant is named for. I love the “cook your own meal” kind of spots, but this one just didn’t do it for me.

Fujiya House – Menu with Prices – 1489 Carl D. Silver Pkwy, Fredericksburg

I went there and ordered NY steak and shrimp. Steak to be cooked medium rare. When it was plated it looked yellow and pink. I told my friend something wasn’t right. I tried a small bite and it was soar and smelt rancid. The cook told the waitress and when she came to table she said “what do you want me to do about it”. I told her it was bad and I couldn’t eat it. She just looked at me and said again “what do you want me to do about it “. I had to tell her to throw it out and take it off my check. Never did a manager come to table but I could see the waitress talk to him across the room and he just patted her on the back. I pray someone checked the other steak in back and didnt serve anyone else the NY steak. I will never go back and plan on never recommending this place again. Bad steak and bad customer service.

Tekka Japanese Grill & Sushi Lexington KY – Menu with Prices – 2300 Sir Barton Way #110, Lexington

We have been going to this restaurant for going on 6 years. We go weekly and sometimes twice a week. From the time it was asuka and now as tekka. We will NOT be going back. I have a discount app that my employer uses and it has ALWAYS had asuka/tekka listed. We do not use it every time we are there because that’s not right but I did try to use the coupon(15% off) last Saturday night. In front of at least 20 people I had the manager belittle me not once but TWICE!!! After his waitress came over and apologized a million times he then decided he would honor it. Idc what goes on with your “partner” side of things but you NEVER make the customer feel embarrassed or in the wrong. He yelled at me once… left…. came back a second time and yelled some more. The third time is apparently when he realized just how serious this situation had gotten. By this point I couldn’t even finish my meal because I was so upset. So yes I paid for a meal I did not get to eat thanks to tWe are well known by almost all the chefs in there. This is a very regular place for us and especially when we are hosting guests. I have truly loved this restaurant until this moment but I will not go into an establishment where this behavior is acceptable. You have now lost quite a few regular customers from this. All over 15% of a $65 bill…. I hope it was worth it. UPDATE: 8/5/19 DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR MONEY. The manager has no idea how to run a business and speak to PAYING customers. His short manager and blonde waitress have had MULTIPLE complaints and still he treats his customers like trash when they point out how awful their service was.

Casa D’Angelo Ristorante Menu with Prices 171 E Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton

Very simple the service was lousy and the $68 ribeye that was suppose to be medium rare was raw as flesh! I mean it looked like they literally pulled it out of the refrigerator and put it on my plate ! The odd thing was when I ordered it our waiter felt the need to keep telling me how much it cost he said ” by the way would you like to know how much it cost ” I didn’t really care as long as it was good . He said well I want you to know it’s $68 and it’s only 16oz with the bone I was like OK well for that price point it should be outstanding right ? He said ” oh yes it’s the best !” When I tried it it had no flavor and was like eating my finger! I told the wiater who got an attitude and looked at me like I had four heads ! He never asked if I wanted something else and he never apologized he did ask if I wanted it cooked more I said for $68 your chef should know how to cook a medium rare steak the first time. I never finished the steak in fact I onky took two bites. When we received the bill they took half the price off so I asked the manager why they didn’t just credit the meal because I didn’t eat it he said I ate half the steak. I told him there wasn’t half a steak to begin with and that I only took two bites! The manager and our wiater acted like I was scamming a meal ! This Was The Most Insulting and poor service experience I have ever had at a restaurant that has a reputation for being a classy place. I wouldn’t take a my dog here to eat ! Oh and by the way this large furry dog was seated behind us breathing like it was 90 ! I love dogs but for God’s sake keep them out of my dinning experience!

Cody’s American Restaurants – Menu with Prices – 2605 SW 33rd St #104, Ocala

Entered the Restaurant just off the Town Square at Lake Sumter Landing and approached the “Welcome Desk”. The Seating and atmosphere is very comfortable and well worth the trip. The Waitress, “Nikki”, was quick to offer drinks and go over the menu and explaining the days’ Specials. After ordering, Nikki returned with drinks, rolls and salad remarkably quickly. I hardly had time to put a dent in the peanut can! After the salad, my steak arrived. Medium Well with Fries! It was Fabulous! Nikki was VERY attentive consistently through the meal while the Manager, “James” seemed to be interested in the Customers’ dining experience in every area of the Restaurant. If James was out of view, Manager Barry was just as available. Codys’ has quickly become my favorite Restaurant in The Villages.

Mermaid’s Seafood Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1725 Walkley Rd, Ottawa

I had dinner here with my husband and overall the food was excellent. The portions were a little small for the price and my appetite though. I ordered the Salmon Combo Plate ($19.99) which comes with your choice of 2 sides from rice, salad and potatoes. I chose the latter two. My husband got the Tilapia Combo Plate ($16.99) and he chose the salad and rice. My salmon filet was a good size and it was nicely grilled. The flavour was excellent. The potatoes were seasoned wedges and were fried. They were hot and crispy. The salad was a mix of romaine lettuce, bell peppers, cucumbers, red cabbage, and red onions. Ingredients were fresh. I asked for the dressing on the side and it arrived as requested. I’m glad I got the dressing on the side because it was very oily and I used less than a tenth of the dressing they gave me. My husband’s plate came with the wrong sides (rice and potatoes, instead of rice and salad). The server realized right away as soon as she brought out the plate and then brought out a salad in a separate bowl acknowledging that the kitchen had made a mistake. We didn’t even have to say anything. I was most impressed by this. Since the portions were a bit small, this extra bonus side dish was happily devoured, lol. I had a taste of my husband’s tilapia and while it was a bit on the salty side, I still liked it. It was lightly breaded but not oily at all, and the fish was flakey. I also had a taste of his rice and it was so flavourful. It was full of spices which I couldn’t make out, but I really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, but I was still hungry after my meal. I don’t usually order appetizers, but I would recommend it here, unless you have a tiny appetite. The restaurant is relatively new (only a few months old, as per our server), and the place is very clean looking. The washrooms were very clean and I particularly noticed that the toilet paper was not the usual “feels like sandpaper” industrial type found in public spaces, but the soft type that you would find in people’s homes. The server was soft-spoken and polite. Food was served in a timely manner. I liked that they give you a pitcher of ice water at your table. No liquor license. But they have a variety of non-alcoholic drinks. The restaurant is in Herongate Square, which is where Herongate Mall used to be before they tore down the enclosed mall and made it into an open plaza. I like the plaza better! Lots of free parking.
