I only tried the sheng jian bao here, but I would probably rate them around 3.5 stars. A good addition to the Bellevue dining scene! To order, you have to use self-service kiosks, but there are employees stationed at the front counter to help you if needed. Thankfully the UI was pretty easy to use, and their menu is not too extensive so you don’t have to scroll too much. Sheng jian bao (SJB) are either 5 for $11 + tax or 2 for $5 + tax. When I went right at 5 PM on a weeknight, they had a lot of SJB pre-made, so I got my order right away. It seems like they give it to you in a to-go container by default. The SJB were fried with the pleated side down. The skin was a little different from other SJB that I have had. In other versions I’ve had (Vancouver BC, California, Taiwan, and other Seattle area restaurants), the skin was more bready, like those found in baozi. In this version, the skin was thinner and more similar to a dumpling wrapper. It wasn’t bad; it was just different than other SJB I have had in the past. The pleated side had a satisfying crunch. Perhaps this is the authentic Shanghainese method of making SJB? There was a lot of soup inside each bun, but as others have said, it squirts easily and goes off on inconvenient trajectories. I couldn’t really find a way to eat them while keeping all the soup inside. The soup tasted good, but the meat filling tasted slightly off to me. It was still good, but I couldn’t quite place my finger on why some aspect of the taste of the filling disagreed slightly with me. Perhaps the meat quality was not up to par. Or, maybe it was a one-off. I’d be willing to try the SJB here again. Pricing is a little steep in my opinion for the food court environment, but it is in downtown Bellevue. I still think the versions I’ve had in metro Vancouver are better, and they are more than 50% cheaper in some cases.

Mucha Lucha Taco Shop – Menu with Prices – 1530 S Val Vista Dr, Gilbert

Is there new owners or something? My last experience here was just excellent, but man this time was completely different. I guess me and my brother were bugging them ordering our food. The man working couldnt have been more condescending and the women couldnt wait to get to the back. I didn’t even order any food for myself or my son because my wifes order irritated them enough so I said screw it. My brothers wet burrito came out dry and he couldnt really saying about it because they rushed off as soon he paid. Two people were in there when we showed up so it was definitely not busy. Idk what their problems were but it was more then enough for me and my brother to never ever eat at this restaurant again. Also to the women worker, when you roll your eyes try looking away so the customer cant constantly see you doing. Just fyi for the next guy…

Sparrow Meat Market Menu with Prices 407 N 5th Ave, Ann Arbor

I’ve always loved sparrow for high quality meat despite slightly higher prices, but they just recently they did me wrong. I’ve bought skin on pork belly for a long time from Sparrow, i believe it usually arrives on Monday and they sell it for 1.99 a pound. I showed up today to get some and it was 3.99. After asking a worker why they marked it up he told me it was always that price… which I know isn’t true. However, I care more about quality than price (why I’m shopping at sparrow in the first place) so i went on to buy my skin on pork belly as I planned. When I got home, I found out the butcher had just cut off the very top lean layer of the belly with the skin, and left the rest of it to be sold as pork belly w/o skin. Let me rephrase that, my pork belly I purchased had no fat, none, it looked like a tenderloin. I am confused what I should do with this very lean belly. This is not the way that sparrow used to serve their skin on pork belly. I bought a two pound section 10 days ago and it was a nice fatty pork belly with the skin on; it was also $2 a pound, but that’s not the point. Long story short I am very disappointed in the product I purchased from Sparrow today.

Cowboys Roadhouse – Menu with Prices – 1034 Elizabeth Rd, Winnipeg

okay i was here for the throwback night end of march. the bouncers and security were extremely negligent. the line formed into a mob so tightly packed that i couldnt breath and couldnt get out to leave the premises even if i wanted to, which i did. At a certain point my arm got trapped between the gaggle of people, and when i tried to get it back it resulted in my wristlet (containing my cards, money, and ID) getting torn off my wrist with the zipper broken off. i was seperated from my friends at this point so i was on my own. i couldnt even bend down to try to find my bag since it was so tightly packed. i yelled for the security guard to do something, to break it up, and he said “theres nothing i can do” which is super not true. luckily once i was finally shoved inside i found my bag had been kicked to the entrance with my things all inside. my whole body is sore from being squished at all angles, my friend has bruises up her wrist from the mob. i feel that this was negligent of the club. if i could give it 0 stars i would. one of the worst experiences ive had.

Call It Pho – Menu with Prices – 2718 Wilma Rudolph Blvd, Clarksville

Outside exterior & Inside interior- Nice & Clean. Food we ordered: 4/5 Egg rolls- Filling was good and full. 4/5 Spring rolls- Filling was good but lacking some things. 4/5 Wonton Egg Noodle soup- Good soup, Lots of meat & veggies. Lacking that extra flavor, Perfect to eat when you’re sick of course. 3/5 Pho Special Combo- Ok but lacking more flavor, Kinda bland. Waitress was sweet and attentive. Prices are high in the Pho aspect but hey not much competition for that around here. Possibly might go back to try other things unless I find a better spot.

Sheng’s Chinese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 362 Lacewood Dr, Halifax

**EDIT** One of the owners, or a friend or whatever of Sheng’s Chinese Restaurant, likes to harass people who give proper reviews of this place. So reviewer beware, Hani C. will attack you verbally if you give an honest review like I have. They even tried to review this place and give it 5 stars, but were denied by Yelp. Unfortunately, the owners do not take criticism well and for that I have changed my review from three stars to one. Meh, it’s dirty Nova Scotian Chinese food… what do you expect? Too much rice, not enough of anything else, a little overpriced, greasy, and they have a 10 year old serving you that clearly would rather be playing with Barbies then serving anyone (EDIT: They used to, seems like they hired a legit staff) I really think there are way too many Chinese restaurants in Halifax. How many do we need until we realize IT ALL TASTES THE SAME! And whadyaknow… their egg rolls consist of some strange brown paste with more brown things in it. You won’t hate yourself as much after eating here like you would if you ate at Zen’s for example. So… bottom line, if you like Chinese food and you’re tired of all the other ones Halifax has to offer, save your time by not bothering with Sheng’s, it’s the same damn thing.. I mean, it’s no Dragon Buffet King by far.. that shit is nasty! But you can enjoy the screaming that comes from Sheng’s kitchen… I think the whole family hangs out in there and some strange bird chirping sound when someone opens the front door. OH and a fish tank! WOW in a Chinese restaurant!?!? Clever!

Burbank French Pastry – Menu with Prices – 117 N San Fernando Blvd, Burbank

It was was our anniversary and order the red velvet cake with cream cheese and some raspberry on the side. Also had bann asunto na and pineapple filling as well. The cake was so delicious i couldnt stop raving about this place to my girl Friends for weeks. The cake were delicately icately made just for us. The taste was so soft i was amazed, i got more than I was expecting than even the more expensive shop. So if you have a sweet tooth and want to cheat a little on your diet this is the place for it. You have been warned!!!

Aalto Lounge – Menu with Prices – 3356 SE Belmont St, Portland

**HAPPY HOUR REVIEW ONLY** Our third HH stop for Easter Sunday and it doesn’t disappoint. We rushed in by 6:20ish from the door and fortunately the place is not swarming with people that we would’ve expected in Vancouver, BC. Our bartender is Owen and he treated us super nice. We tried all 3 HH drinks: – Slow burn: spicy and sweet from the pineapple and chilli combo. Love it. – Belmont Jewel: sweet with fragrance of blossoms. Easy to sip. Not too sweet and not too dry. – The Dandy: The most refreshing of them all. Tasted a bit lemony – like a spiked lemonade. We also tried 2 of the 3 HH food: – Grilled cheese sandwich: it was filling and it came with a tomato soup! Super tasty for the price! – Hummus & pita that came with cucumber slices: filling and refreshing. Can’t really make a wrong hummus – and they didn’t make it wrong. The pita was brushed with some good/generous amounts of butter so it was tasty eating it stand alone. overall: yes, we will come back for sure for happy hour. Thanks, Owen!

Taqueria El Rey – Menu with Prices – 4401 NW 23rd St, Oklahoma City

My husband and I decided to try this place out since we’d seen ads for it on Facebook and had never tried Hondurian food. My husband is Mexican and he wasn’t even sure what to expect. We were the only guests there when we went in the early afternoon. The restaurant has that hole-in-the-wall atmosphere without the nastiness. It seemed clean and had colorful (but not too overdone) decor that was fun and tropical. The server brought out chips and a bean dip. It was almost like puréed refried black beans with queso fresco sprinkled on top- it’s served warm. We thought it was good. I love horchata so that’s what I got to drink. It was served in a very cute pottery thing that was almost like a small pot/vase. It wasn’t gross, but definitely not what I expected. It tasted like the milk leftover in your bowl after eating Cocoa Puffs. It did not taste like horchata to me. We were intrigued by the passion fruit juice and the cashew juice so we asked for a sample of them. The passion fruit juice was very good, kind of like a mango-pineapple-papaya flavor. Very tropical. The cashew juice was very strange on my pallet. Not gross, but very odd. I honestly can’t even describe the taste besides that it was slightly milky but also kinda sweet. Hubby ordered the pork chop meal and loved it. I tried a bite of the meat and thought it was great. It came with fried plantains, which he loves. I ordered the pupusas with chicharron (pork skin) and cheese. They were delicious! Very fresh and hot and super cheesy and filling. The salsa they come with is EXTREMELY spicy. For my son, we ordered something that I can’t remember the name of. It was a large flour tortilla (homemade and so good) folded over, with eggs, avocado, refried beans, cheese, and I think some meat on the inside. It was decent but I probably wouldn’t order it for myself. Hubby liked it more than I did- maybe I just wasn’t in a breakfast mood or didn’t care for the combination of foods inside. The downside is that it seemed to take an eternity to get our food. It took at least 30 minutes and only one other table (of two guests) walked in after we ordered. It was clear to us that it was made fresh but I hope they figure out a way to be able to still bring that fresh taste while also getting the food out in a timely manner. We will be back, however, because we both really want to try the beef soup! Give it a shot, the food is pretty good.

Little Lulu’s – Menu with Prices – 5035 W Montrose Ave, Chicago

Do the words, “best soup I ever tasted” mean anything? Because this is the best soup I ever tasted! I arrived ten minutes before closing when at most restaurants the food is getting stale and the staff is getting cranky. Not here. The lady was so nice as she rang me up, and when my wife and I tried the last cup of soup they had left, we were absolutely blown away by it. Tasted super-fresh. The flavor and seasoning was terrific. They shredded the chicken so that you got some in every bite. No disgusting oil or grease at the top. I mean, just perfect soup! That’s the bottom line, it’s just perfect soup. This must have been what the soup was like in that Seinfeld episode, only they’re actually nice to you here. As for me, next time I get the flu, it won’t be so bad because my wife will let me eat as much of this as I want!

MonGa Café Menu with Prices 14603 NE 20th St, Bellevue

The mall area this place is in bad so many places to eat, it was hard to choose! First time eating Taiwanese food. I started freaking out bc there were pigs ears on the menu! I kinda want to try them. So many mixed feelings. Thanks to Yelp tips, we were able to order without too much trepidation even though the menu doesn’t have pictures or a lot of detail- pretty intimidating. We ordered the Combo #1 with the pork over rice, soup, and cabbage and cucumber sides. The cabbage was SO good, I love cooked cabbage a la st Patrick’s day corned beef and cabbage, it was very similar… a little sweet. The cucumbers were marinated in a rice vinegar and sugar, the pork was fatty over rice and oh so delicious. Nice variety of flavors. The soup was cloudy… off putting to me but it tasted like egg flower soup. May have been the color that made it seem starchy. The light color pork ball in it wasn’t appetizing so I didn’t eat it. Tried the fried chicken leg which tasted like turkey. It had a duck spice flavor. It was delicious, the fried skin was so crispy. I was suspicious bc it seemed too big for a chicken but they reassured me it was indeed chicken. The pork bun sandwich was okay. Filling bc the dice was large but the pickled veggies were just too different looking for my taste. I’d like something crispier in there as the veggies were a little soft. Here it comes… the spicy won ton side was AMAZING. I thought they’d be fried but they came in a spicy peanut sauce broth that was so flavorful I wanted to bring it home so I could dip crusty bread it in it. I’ll come back here and try one of their interesting shaved ice deserts. I’d recommend that all workers here even bud boys wear the same shirt or an apron bc someone asked if he could clear the table and I thought it was a random guy from off the street. The restaurant is large and cleanly decorated with a modern look. I like the black and white pictures on the wall

Manly and Sons Barber Co. – Menu with Prices – 1815 Main St, Vancouver

Look no further. I live in Vancouver and have been to 5 diff shops in the area but haven’t found one I loved yet so I ventured down to Portland & have been really satisfied with Manly & Sons on Hawthorne. When I heard they now have a Vancouver location I was pretty excited! All my haircuts have been fantastic Arlene is really talented! You can tell she focuses on all the little details and takes her time which I appreciate greatly.

Thai Son Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 1450 SW Marine Dr, Vancouver

Wanted to try something different for dinner last week so my friend and i decided to try out this Vietnamese restaurant. This restaurant always include a small plate of bean sprouts as an appetizer which is nice. I noticed that most of the patrons inside were eating the pho soup bowls for dinner. Today I wanted to try something different so I tried #44 on the menu which was “Grilled lemongrass pork chops, shredded pork with a fried egg on steamed broken rice.” It’s not bad at all! The pork chops could use a little more seasoning so I dipped it in the sauce that was meant for the bean sprouts and it tasted better. I didn’t like the taste of the diced shredded pork though. But I liked that it came with a small bowl of soup to finish off the meal. My friend ordered #1 on the menu which was “House special combination beef in rice noodle soup.” He liked it. It comes with beef beef slices, tripe, and meat balls. The tea that we were given was noticeably better tasting compared to other casual Asian restaurants. Prices are quite reasonable here hovering around $10 per dish. On top of that, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that all menu items are 10% off on Tuesdays. The staff at the counter is pretty friendly and smiles which is nice. The dining area and the washrooms are big, clean, and modern. This branch is a little while out of the way in terms of location at the edge of Granville Street close to yvr airport. I will most likely visit one of the other locations around Vancouver in the future because of this. Overall, it’s not bad at all! Most people who like to eat casual Vietnamese foods will enjoy it here.
