Service is fantastic, the cashier woman at the front is super friendly and caring. I got the Rockefeller Reuben, which is a hot sandwich. I chose pastrami and spicy mustard. The bread got soggy pretty quickly and I think it’s because it’s not grilled/toasted enough while the inside is scorching hot. The contents of the sandwich were good except for those two things. If the bread was toasted further, it would have not gotten soggy. This also happened when I got another sandwich couple years ago. Maybe it would have been different if I got a roll sandwich. Also, I don’t know what type of pickle it was but it did not taste fresh; it tasted a bit stale and kinda old. The prices are pretty spendy for sandwiches. Mine was about $13 plus tax. For this type of sandwich, it should be two or three dollars cheaper.

Pickletime Deli & Market – Menu with Prices – 7405 Hardeson Rd # A, Everett

If you haven’t been to Pickle time, you need to drop everything and go there. It’s amazing. My only beef with Pickle time, is there is no big huge vat of Pickles that are so big it makes you feel embarrassed of your own manhood! I forget this fact once I devour one of their sandwiches. Let me tell you perfect and spot on. I ordered the Meatloaf sandwich and it was to die for. The meatloaf itself was dare I say moist but not moist so much that it makes the bread soggy. The bread is toasted perfectly crisp. The house sauce is perfect in flavor and it really works with the Meatloaf Sandwich. On another day, I had the perfect Reuben sandwich. The meat was perfect, the Thousand Island sauce was perfect, the sauerkraut was perfect and you ended up with the perfect Reuben! You may be put off paying $6.99 to $8.49 for a sandwich! Let me tell you this they do not skimp on the meats and after all is said and done, you are getting more than what you paid for. Besides do you really want to go to a sub shop and eat the equivalent of a loaf of bread and flavorless meats! You would think Pickle time invented Deli. They for sure get it spot on! Please though humor me and get a vat of big fat deli pickles!

Maccabee’s Kosher Deli – Menu with Prices – 1150 Polk Blvd, Des Moines

If you enjoy a well made sandwich and want to support a local business, head to Maccabee’s. The other reviewers are spot on, the owners care about the food and the customer’s experience. I had the Roosevelt on rye and added a black and white cookie to round out my Jewish deli experience. Everything was made to order. The pastrami was lightly smoked and well seasoned around the edges. I believe that the bread on a sandwich should be more than a flavorless napkin/utensil, so I was pleased by the hearty depth of the rye bread. The pickle on the side was no slouch either, slightly sweet with a ton of dill. The pickle was crunchy, not soggy at all – I don’t think I will be able to choke down a Vlasic after this. Did I mess up by not grabbing some latkas or a knish? Probably! Hopefully I can return with a group to sample the side dishes.

T C’s Yummies – Menu with Prices – 2217 N Harbor Blvd, Fullerton

My review is for the bbq chicken sandwich and their customer service. Been coming here for awhile and was so happy to have found this spot thinking it was a gem. Today unfortunately I had such a bad experience I’m questioning whether I’ll come back. Ordered the bbq chicken sandwich for the FIRST TIME on the phone. When I picked it up it was just the bread with shredded chicken overloaded with bbq sauce and nothing else in it. When I asked if it came with anything else I was told that I would have to ask to have it toasted and to ask for veggies with them. Sad but I have it a try. The chicken was super tough and dry and I ended up tossing my $7 sandwhich away .. When I suggested to the lady to have their employees ask over the phone if the customer wanted the bread toasted and want veggies in it. I mean if it’s your first time ordering that sandwhich how are you supposed to know to ask? She Rudely cut me off and explained that things are the way they are even with customers complaining about the same issue in the past . So why not change it? Who knows Anyways. If you want a bbq chicken you’ve got to ask for it toasted and with veggies you’ll end up with soggy bread and a tummy ache like me ? gl

Crestwood Catering Deli Menu with Prices 22 Picotte Dr, Albany

My husband and I recently visited Crestwood Deli after reading about it in the paper. It took MORE than 30 minutes to get two sandwiches – I could have gone to the store, purchased ingredients AND made the sandwiches before this place even finished burning the sub-par bread for one sandwich. To be clear, we went on a Sunday when the place was totally EMPTY. On to the flavor of the sandwiches: for $15 dollars we got two TINY soggy unappealing lumps of bread, meat and cheese (see photos – the sandwiches are on 7″ dinner roll plates and I used a quarter to demonstrate their minuscule size). They were like 5 inches or less (made a Subway six inch look huge). On top of that, the corned beef used in the Reuben was ice cold and amazingly the burned bread was soggy. Shame on you Crestwood Deli, this is not the kind of food that should be served to customers. I will certainly never recommend this place to anyone. CONCLUSION: Buy your own ingredients at the grocery store and make sandwiches at home!!! P.S. The chef Danny Urschel made the Reuben pictured.

Big Ed’s Artisan Bread Menu with Prices 601 NE 1st St, Bend

Stopped into the Hop & Brew in Sisters for coffee with my son who is hiking the PCT. After taking him back to the trailhead, I came back to try the grilled tuna sandwich, which is a favorite of mine. When the server brought the sandwich, I let out a little groan because it was on a big roll and I was afraid it would be too much bread. I took one bite and OMG, best grilled tuna I’ve ever had (and I’m kinda old) and the roll was the best roll I’ve ever bitten into. So, this review is as much about Big Ed’s Bakery in Bend as it is about Hop & Brew. The crust and texture of this toasted roll was incredible. On top of that, the tuna salad was delicious as well. People were friendly. Place is clean. I live in Portland but I doubt if I’d drive through Sisters without stopping in for another sandwich…even if I had to wait a while for my food. And, in Bend, I will definitely go to Big Ed’s.

Nikos Cafe Menu with Prices 577 New Scotland Ave, Albany

High hopes followed by a real letdown. I love me some good gyros and I’ve been eating them all over and for years; they can be very unique at times, that’s for sure. Anyway, Anton’s take on the ubiquitous beef/lamb gyro just plain disappoints…unfortunately. For starters, the pita bread was just too tough/stale; literally tough to chew through. Pitas are supposed to be soft and supple. Nope, not this one. Second, it was skimpy on both fresh tomatoes and raw onions. I like a little fresh lettuce on my gyro on occasion so I was disappointed that this one didn’t have it too. Finally, the meat seemed old, like it had been on the spit for a very, very long time. That’s not good; that means they aren’t selling many and then the gyro meat itself starts getting tough and too crusty. Man, this gyro just didn’t work at all for me. Additionally, tried out a chicken souvlaki sandwich and it simply lacked any type of souvlaki flavor. Luckily, the meat wasn’t dried out and overcooked, but it was as if it had only been marinated for like 10 minutes. Sigh…the whole point of a souvlaki sammich is to get that awesome marinated tang, and dangit, this one just didn’t have any! And…of course, they used the same stale/tough pita bread for the sandwich. Sigh again. The total for the 2 sandwiches came to 18 samoleons and change…way too much for the quality received. Seek your good Greek love elsewhere fellow Yelpies, I know I will.

Chester’s Philly Grill Menu with Prices 2195 S Chambers Rd, Aurora

This was a very pleasant surprise. Being a native of the Philadelphia area I am quite provincial when it comes to my cheesesteaks. I found this as a result of being in this area at lunch time with no plans and checking Yelp for lunch ideas. Small place, no frills, friendly woman behind the counter. Seems to be a Mom & Pop operation which is near and dear to my heart. Ordered an “Original” regular size and a fountain drink, $9.12. The sammich was a little larger than what I expected at that price. Overall good quality, well grilled onions and the most overlooked feature – a toasted roll. If you’ve read this far then you’re the type that knows that the roll MAKES the sandwich. Since they don’t have Amoroso, they took a lemon (non-Amoroso roll) and made lemonade (toasted that sucker). Truly elevated the flavor. I will be back to try their house special.

Chicken Salad Chick – Menu with Prices – 6535 Youree Dr, Shreveport

I like coming to Chicken Salad Chick because it’s pretty inexpensive, and it’s quick. But I’m never blown away by the food. Today I called in a to-go order because I only had a little bit of time for lunch. I got the Cranberry Kelli on a croissant with no sides (mainly because none of the sides are too appetizing to me). I like the subtle sweetness of the cranberries and the crunch from the almonds in the Cranberry Kelli. There are several flavor options to choose from. The sandwich came with a pickle and one of their small pre-packaged sugar cookies for a little over $6 (including tax). Pretty good price. Once I got back to work and picked my sandwich up, I realized the juice from the pickle made the bottom of my sandwich soggy. Gross. When I picked up the sandwich, I also unfortunately found a hair. Gross. I was super hungry and didn’t have time to get anything else, so I had to push the grossness out of my mind and eat it anyways. The sandwich is never anything special. Each time I go, the chicken salad to bread ratio seems way off. This was again the case. The bread itself is usually dry too. I also always noticed random “squeaks” when I’m eating it…you know, like the sound of chewing on a random piece of fat. Ew. Not the best quality chicken salad. For the price and the speed, it did the job and filled me up. It wasn’t terrible, but it sure wasn’t amazing.

Big Sky Bread Co – Menu with Prices – 3070 Far Hills Ave # c, Dayton

A fitting name for a bread company. Their breads are soft and fluffy like the clouds in the sky. I’ve had their cinnamon bread, wheat bread, pretzel rolls, and their garlic cheddar bread. The cinnamon bread was great! So much better than Cinnabon. The first part of the roll is perfect. Not too sweet, and super soft. As you get further to the end, the cinnamon only increases. Their pretzel rolls are perfect if you like salted pretzels. They are similar in saltiness. Out of all the baked goods I’ve tried from Big Sky, the pretzel rolls were the only ones that didn’t hold up well after a couple of days. Maybe it was the salt on the bread? Who knows. But by the second day the breads were soggy on the outside. On to their garlic cheddar bread. This bread is the best choice out of the four I’ve tried. So good. It tastes even better toasted.

Sandwich King – Menu with Prices – 17885 Sky Park N # G, Irvine

I walked into this sandwich shop the other day for lunch after a night of drinking and was immediately perplexed by the variety of menu items on the board. I counted 8 panels with about 10 items each coming out to roughly 80 different listed sandwiches Fortunately there was no-one behind me in line so i stood looking perplexed at the nice Chinese man waiting patiently to take my order. After a good 5 minutes looking crosseyed at the menu trying not to get dizzy and fall down I gave up and ordered something that i was pretty sure i would like. A tuna melt. “I’ll have the tuna melt” I said The main behind the counter immediately came back with: “What kind of bread would you like?” Oh crap, I hadn’t thought of that. Oh, wait, now where was the bread options in this sandwich matrix. I had to ask. He pointed at the bread options and after a minute of him pointing at the same spot on the menu i finally focused my eyes on the 5 or 6 different bread options. I was confused because they had something like a “Roll” and a “French Roll” and i couldn’t for the life of me figure out why you would need both options. “White Bread” i said “Toasted? ok, so now where were we. 80 options, multiplied by 6 types of bread times 2 for the toasted/not toasted. That comes out to 960! options. “Do you want everything on it?” Shrug.. “Whats everything?” “Lettuce, tomato, pickles, avocado, mustard and mayo” “sure i’ll take it all” Ok, binary math now. each option doubles the original set of options. –grinding gear noise in head– We my friends are now at 61440 possible sandwich combinations! Exhausted I sat down and ate my chips and drink. When the sandwich finally came I took a big bite. The 90% of the tuna squished out the sides along with the avocado. The structurally unsound thin piece of white bread disintegrated in my hands and of course was left with the typical tasteless hard as an apple California Tomato which was cut way too thick. What kind of a moron would order this sandwich? I can’t stand avocado either, not on a sandwich anyway. If i had seen a picture of this sandwich before ordering it i would most certainly have chosen something else. And this is the problem with american society today. Everyone wants to have ALL the options, but the thing is. WE ARE ALL IDIOTS! myself included. And what about this sandwich guy. For me, it’s just another bad sandwich. But for this guy it’s his life. He wakes up in the morning and for at least 8, probably 10 hours a day all he does is makes sandwiches one after another. You would think a guy like that would have some pretty good opinions on what makes a good sandwich and what doesn’t right? If i were doing that job, i would spend years trying to construct the perfect combination of bread meat and cheese and then present ONLY THOSE OPTIONS. that way the customer is much more likely to get a good sandwich. Sure, you can show the options as well and you can offer substitutions for those few who want to order something custom but the vast majority of your clients are just going to order off the menu. But no. Who knows how many years this guy has been in business and he can’t even bother to figure out what makes a good sandwich. This is just pure laziness if you ask me. I give this place 3 stars. a mediocre score for a mediocre sandwich. Oh and i don’t have a picture. but just google “sandwich” and you pretty much get the point.

Middle Ages Licensed Location @ Hancock International Airport – Menu with Prices – Hancock International Airport, Syracuse

This is the only sit-down restaurant option in the left wing terminal where American Airlines and Frontier is. The waitress cleaning the table saw me enter and stand there waiting to be seated but she didn’t bother to address me until I approached her after waiting for her to wipe 4 more tables. I guess it is a self-seating type of establishment. There is a bar area and also sit-down seating. They have breakfast options that only last until 10:30 AM. I ordered a caprese sandwich and paid an extra $3 for grilled chicken. This brought the sandwich up to $17. The bread on it was ciabatta and it wasn’t very toasty aside from a small section of the corner. The sandwich seemed to be microwaved because the tomato slice inside was soggy and the mozzarella cheese inside was melted. There was no basil so it didn’t taste the way I expect caprese to taste. When you think of caprese, you think of fresh mozzarella and tomato rather than melted cheese and cooked tomato. I was underwhelmed by the sandwich and its lack of vegetables. There was a sun dried tomato paste inside that was alright. It came with a pickle slice and a side of salty chips. It would have been nice to have an option to substitute the potato chips with a salad instead. One waitress took my credit card and brought me back my check and a 2nd waiter took the card again and was about to charge it a second time before I intervened. I think their breakfast items might be a better option. I noticed that a lot of folks here ordered salads. It may be a good spot to grab a beer but it wasn’t a great option for a caprese sandwich.

Great Harvest Bread Co., Anchorage, AK Menu with Prices 570 E Benson Blvd, Anchorage

Saw their cinnamon rolls on Yelp and wanted a breakfast type sandwich. Didn’t buy a cinnamon roll because they were out of icing wth? The roll is bigger than their bread loaves and I did get a sample. It’s very good even without icing because there is lots of moist cinnamon goodness inside the yummy yeasty bread. I had the ham, egg and cheddar on sourdough with a garlic herb bread and I highly recommend. I also sampled the bacon cheddar bread they brought out fresh with cheddar oozing out the sides and you get cheddar and bacon in every bite. It was busy and the line was long and it’s loud in there but there are two outside tables. Keto folks steer clear! ?
