This has now become one of my go-to spots when I am up in Bellingham. Usually I’m not too into places like these because it all tastes the same to me. But this spot definitely proved me wrong, no doubt about it. Considering this place is right by the waterfront, you can always expect good tasting fish. I had ordered their special that was available that day (I don’t know how often their specials change) which was a 2-piece fried salmon, 3 prawns, fries, coleslaw and their tartar sauce/cocktail sauce. Special was $10.95 and let me tell you, it was well worth it. The fried salmon literally falls apart in your mouth. I thought the salmon was going to be a bit dry but it was just great and perfectly cooked. The prawns were on the small side but still, can’t go wrong with fried prawns. The menu itself is actually pretty decently sized. The most popular items are their traditional cod plate and salmon plate. Not only do they have fish and chips but they have 24 different soft serve ice cream flavors. So if you’re not into seafood, you have 24 flavors to choose from to satisfy your sweet tooth. Seating is all outside. Not too many seats but people come and go kind of quick. It’s a cool double decker bus with a patio in front on a corner in Fair Haven. Now I know why this place holds the reputation it has. Overall, 9/10 recommend! (:

Fish District – Menu with Prices – Town Center, 6278 Irvine Blvd, Irvine

01.02.2018 Hubby, Little O and I came here because it was next to the bike store (a required stop) and we just finished running some errands. We spent $29 for the three of us: 1-Regular traditional salmon poke bowl 1-Cup clam chowder 1-Baja fish taco 1-Kid’s grilled salmon plate 1-Calamari Fritti Little O was not too fond of the sauce used for the poke bowl so we took it home. I told her I’d rinse it off and take off the cucumbers, and seaweed salad. The clam chowder was the best! I would definitely come back for it. The flavor was balanced and had good sized pieces of clams and veggies. It was creamy and yummy. Little O ended up eating all of it instead of the poke. I tried the Baja fish taco on a corn tortilla. It was average. The tartar sauce did not help at all. The fish was just plain, no flavor or seasoning. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried light (not much color on the fry). It was seasoned well and tasted good as soon as it was served because it was crispy and hot. But about 10 minutes into the meal the pieces began to go limp and soggy. The aioli was good, nothing exciting in flavor. The cocktail sauce was simple, not spicy. Hubby enjoyed the kid’s grilled salmon plate. The fish was a good size and thickness, seasoned well and cooked through. He didn’t care for the battered fries that it came with. If we came back to this area, the chowder and grilled plate would be on our list again.

FreshWay Fish – Menu with Prices – 931 Washington Blvd #120, Roseville

Been going to Freshway ever since we moved to Folsom and started the farmer’s market last year. Today we bought steelhead salmon, (a wonderful half steelhead half salmon fish), halibut, swordfish kabobs, and homemade smoked salmon cream cheese spread! We did not get the prawns since I’m allergic to shellfish, and now pregnant can’t after the fact have the swordfish. Last year we bought from a gentleman who told us they went to Alaska the day before and caught this fish. Which me being in the Air Force I was stationed in Alaska for three years, totally believed him. First of all the fish did not smell fishy at all which means it’s fresh and secondly it tastes as fresh as when I was in Alaska and the taste is there. I thought he told us that they practice the fishing that is limited amount of fish in a net like Wholefoods does. The fish tastes that much better since not under duress. But don’t quote me on this part, going on memory from last year! Wish I could remember his name. I asked and told him if he knew those fishermen that are on TV in Alaska. Yes he said he knows them, how cool is that! They even offer a punch reward card for $10 off. Today at the Folsom farmer’s market we bought from Paula who had excellent customer service and said to contact them from their website to get reward credit since she ran out of cards. Can’t beat real fresh Alaskan fish. Not sure of most is from Alaska, but the halibut and salmon is to my knowledge. Steelhead, prawns, scallops etc. not sure. We’ll be back Freshway! Best smoked salmon I’ve ever had like a bagel and lox party in your mouth. Tip, they run out of things like ahi poke and other items so better to go to the farmer’s market earlier.

Racha Thai Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 805 N Battlefield Blvd #117, Chesapeake

I enjoyed my experience here. I was craving a whole fried fish with tamarind sauce and they obliged. (I had a favorite dish from a Thai restaurant in NY when I lived there and this was the closest I could get to that dish.) It was a large portion of whole tilapia fish with the sauce that was tasty and had just a little spice. I ordered it with white rice. (I actually think I should have ordered it a bit more spicy, but the sauce was still sweet and had great flavor.) The restaurant is medium-sized and it wasn’t crowded the Sunday I visited. The waitress was polite and prompt. The atmosphere is casual and the location is near one of my favorite Caribbean restaurants, Cutlass Grille. I was hard-pressed to find whole fish (it just doesn’t seem to be popular in Hampton Roads, and I like my fish cooked whole with the head) but after searching online, I found Racha. I have yet to try their other Thai dishes but will surely be back.

Mariscos El Tiburon – Menu with Prices – 2006 W 5th St, Santa Ana

Before Food Trucks were popular, El Tiburon was blazing a trail. This is the original Mariscos Truck in all of Orange County, California. They’ve been around at least 25 years. Santa Ana has the best seafood to offer. Correction: “Mariscos!” The seafood cocktail (shrimp, crab, & octopus) is the anchor food I was introduced to, and brings me back, year after year. It’s prepared perfectly but sometimes I add some ketchup – it’s my thing – and always add some Tapatio. Another staple, inexpensive, and powerhouse delicious Bomb S is the Ceviche Tostadas. The shrimp ones are good but if you like fish, you can’t beat the “Fish Ceviche Tostadas.” You’re Welcome. A seafood palette grows, explores, and can appreciate different flavors. You can’t go wrong with anything they serve. Like other post, El Jefe Tacos kill. A new addition to the menu – last few years – and my wife’s favorite. The fact is we really don’t order hot food at the this spot but when we do – its los El Jefe Taco’s. You’ve read this far, here is the payoff: Get the oysters. Add lime, a splash of tapatio, and a pinch of salt. I guess I’m a Yelp’r now.

Seafood Shop – Menu with Prices – 9747 E 21st St N, Wichita

The Seafood Shop (Full review with photos on JakeRamstack.com) Where do you find fresh fish in a land-locked state? The best place to go is the Seafood Shop. They offer fresh fish delivered daily from the dock. There are even restaurants here in Wichita, that only buy their fish from the Seafood Shop. (insider secret) We always buy the smoked salmon and make an appetizer recipe with smoked salmon and whipped creme cheese with an apple slice on a cracker. It’s amazing, you also should try their dips – ready to go. They carry over 200 species of fish and shellfish, but if you want something special, they can order and have it to you within 48 hours. If you would like, they will cook your fish for you too. Want something ready to eat? They offer dinners to-go on Tuesday through Saturday, and lunch on Fridays. The fish tacos are superb. Meet Tish, Seafood Shop owner and awesome fish monger, pictured on right. She knows all about the fish. Stay tuned for an ‘Around Town’ video on the Seafood Shop! Fun fact: They also have cooking classes and recipes listed on their website. Check them out!

The Soup and Noodle – Menu with Prices – 807 N Tustin St, Orange

Been wanting to try this place for awhile and everything was fantastic! We ordered a combo plate (salmon, garlic noodles, and steamed veggies), seared tuna garlic noodles, seafood fried rice, and lomo saltado plate (it came with garlic noodles and fries). Everything was great but I especially loved the fried rice and lomo. The rice was simple but the flavor of the seafood was super savory. The lomo had seasoned fries which were especially tasty because some parts were crispy while others had soaked up the delicious sauce. We tried the wintermelon tea which was refreshing and sweet. It wasn’t cloying sweet like other places though, so I liked that. Their lychee tea is awesome, very refreshing without being too sweet. I also got their Vietnamese iced coffee. Like typical Vietnamese coffee, it was strong but tasty. The service was great as well. We were seated right away and we were able to customize our orders as we wished. The food came out quickly too. At first I thought the price was a little high but its definitely worth the quantity of food you get. We got 4 dishes for 4 people and had a ton of leftovers. If you have a normal appetite, I suggest sharing 1 plate between 2 people. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Hook Fish & Chicken – Menu with Prices – 955 Sansburys Way STE 213, West Palm Beach

Returned this evening with a friend and found the staff to be greatly improved – friendly and helpful. The fried shrimp were excellent but I was not a fan of the fried grouper. They now have cups and ice and that is a vast improvement. Food is served hot and waits are minimal. The menu consists only of fried seafood and chicken wings. There is NO ambiance but the place is clean yet spartan. Customers usually want tarter sauce with fried fish and theirs come in a little packet and is nothing other than 1/2 tablespoon of mayo and two shreds of pickle..tasteless and about enough for one or two bites. Their cocktail sauce is a joke – mayo mixed with hot sauce – tastes nothing like expected – no lemon or seasoning or horseradish….yuck!!! There is no malt vinegar, another popular fried fish condiment. Everything is cooked to order but their love affair with pitiful condiment packets needs addressing. Prices are low and servings are generous.

Central Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 401 Central Ave #2802, Jersey City

This is a great little local gem if you want some casual home cooked seafood. They have a huge menu of cooked food options, I actually didnt see any fish for sale. So I chose the fried combo seafood platter ($10) and broiled salmon with salad and rice. The portions were HUGE and delicious. The 2 ladies who were cooking were VERY nice. Literally it is like mom’s home cooking. The ambiance is very casual lile any fish market establishment. There is table seating there and soft drinks available for purchase. They will serve you at the table if you dine in. Overal a great CASUAL spot for a great seafood meal. I may recommend takout if you want ambiance, it’s not fancy, but the food is more than worth the trip.

Seafood Center – Menu with Prices – 712 S Whitney Way #2506, Madison

This place is amazing! Not only is there a fantastic selection of seafood that you can take home and cook up yourself, there are awesome food items for a delicious meal of condiments, sauces, breading and batter mixes, utensils, cedar boards, etc… (and, if you’re unsure as to how to cook or grill something, they can tell you). The best place for a fabulous HOT LUNCH of “The Catch of the Day” which consists of different fish varieties (salmon, sole, white fish, halibut…to name a few) along with fries and cole slaw. Or, you can have a selection of…..Cod, Lake Perch, CatFish, Scallops, Fried Clams and Calamari and served with fries and cole slaw as well. Their prices are VERY reasonable and the employees rock! …….Susie, Chaz, Nick, Zach, JJ and Everyone are so wonderfully nice! Great location on the corner of Whitney Way and Odana Road. If you love seafood, you will LOVE The Seafood Center. When my family and I think of Seafood, we think the SEAFOOD CENTER! Hands down, this is the best place ever.

The Fish Cove – Menu with Prices – 158 Swansea Ave, Syracuse

We came in a little bit ago on a Friday and definitely enjoyed our fish. It seems to me that every time we come here their fried fish has always been on point. It’s also really nice that their staff is friendly. Almost every time you go into a fried fish place, its always push push push push rush rush. Here, they are much more chill which is definitely appreciated. The pricing is pretty standard with all of the fried fish places here in Syracuse. I saw a couple of people mention cold fish, but that has never happened when I came. I really always get fish or fish and fries, so I can’t really comment on anything else that they serve. They have a really tasty and fresh tasting tartar sauce though. I recommend coming here or Bayberry for your fried fish.

Seafoodlicious – Menu with Prices – 4435 Skidaway Rd, Savannah

OMG. Y’all, this place has some BOMB seafood. You have to give this place a try if you’re in the area. Seafoodlicious is a small hole-in-the-wall seafood market offering a variety of fresh seafood that you can purchase raw, boiled, or fried. This place has no seating to dine-in, it’s strictly takeout. But don’t let that keep you from stopping by, the food is well worth it. I’m so disappointed in myself for previously dining in at the tourist traps. Honestly, Seafoodlicious beats those places any day portion-wise, taste-wise, and price-wise. Not to mention I think this is where the locals come to get seafood. I came in an hour before closing, and a lot of people kept coming in to order food. That’s a good sign! When you come here, it helps if you come ready knowing what you want to order. The menu and set-up can be a little overwhelming for newcomers. If you don’t know what to get though, it’s okay. Once you come in you can place an order with any of the employees behind the counter and they’ll take your payment. Everything here is reasonably priced. Low country boils are $8.99 and you can get fried seafood for under $10. A lot of items on the menu are under $10. There’s a variety of seafood on ice presented in a glass case – so you can see the seafood right in front of you and choose what you want. Seafood includes small shrimp ($6.99 per lb), medium shrimp, and jumbo shrimp ($9.99 per lb), blue crab, snow crab, fish fillets (your choice of tilapia, swai, or whiting), catfish, whole fish (I can’t remember all but black sea bass was one of them. They serve very large whole fish as well), oysters, conch, squid, and crabmeat. They also serve cooked items like shrimp salad, crab pie, spicy conch, deviled crab, garlic crab, and fried crab. If you want raw seafood, you can just order what you want behind the glass case as is. If you want fried seafood, there is a selection of fried platters on the far left side of the menu. It comes with fries and your choice of dipping sauce. They use swai for the fried fish platter unless otherwise specified. While the fried seafood is tasty and satisfying, I would not go out of my way here for it. I highly recommend getting their low country boil, especially if you’re a newcomer. It’s such a good deal! The low country boil comes with small shrimp, two blue crabs, potatoes, corn, and 100% beef sausage. If you don’t want sausage they will offer to give you extra potatoes, which is nice. I have no idea what they use for seasoning but I guess it would be something along the lines of Cajun seasoning. Then they add garlic butter to it. They may ask if you want seasoning and garlic butter mixed in or if you’d like both on the side. I highly suggest having it all mixed in, the seafood absorbs the flavor better that way. Another option is to just order whatever you want behind the glass case and ask them to cook it. I think you can only either get it deep fried or boiled (if boiled they will add garlic butter and seasoning). My family of five ended up ordering 4 low country boils, one fried platter of fish and fries, one fried swai fish fillet, and one pound of boiled jumbo shrimp ($9.99 per lb), along with some soft drinks and sauces. It was A LOT of seafood and the grand total was $66 – not bad at all! The fried swai fillet yields two portions of fried fish. It was tasty and not greasy. The boiled jumbo shrimp and the low country boils were DELICIOUS. I think my eyes rolled to the back of my head when I took my first bite. Everything is seasoned so well. The corn is delicious and soaks up all that good seasoning. The beef sausage and potatoes were good too. I was shocked by the generous portions they gave us. They truly filled the container. With the potatoes, sausage, and corn, this makes for a really filling meal. None of us could finish our food. I think each container could easily be shared between two people. As for the sauces, additional sauces are 50 cen

LA Hot Food – Menu with Prices – 1414 Moss St, Lafayette

Finally got to try this place out, perfect spot to go during lent season! Place is pretty small, and it gets pretty packed! Its a to-go place, so there is no seating, but they get you in and out quick! Food is cooked to order, so the you food is always fresh. The people here is friendly and helpful! We had the following: – Shrimp – huge butterflied shrimp, not too much breading! Delicious! – Fish – strips of crispy fried fish, cooked to perfection! This is probably the only time I would choose fish over shrimp! Must get the house made sauces! Tartar sauce well went really well with the seafood, but I also had the honey mustard, which was also good. I cannot wait to come back to try out their other items!
