I am not a coffee aficionado though I do like coffee. I buy from Alexarc at Maniac because he is nice, it is local and organic and fairly traded and smells amazing when I cycle by. BUT the last few days we had a French couple stay in our Airbnb and they WERE coffee connoisseurs and they wouldn’t stop going on about the quality of the coffee. They said a French press was the only way to go and just raved about it. So there you are. If it’s good enough for French coffee snobs it’s good enough for you. Go get it.

The Bean Whole – Menu with Prices – 2155 E 2100 S, Salt Lake City

Coffee snobs… hear me out! I am a coffee snob, I admit it. When I go camping in the Colorado Rockies, I have my pop-up camper, a fishing pole by the truck and my french press on the counter. Yes… I take my french press, my ‘The Bean Whole’ coffee and grinder with me on my trip to the mountains. The Bean Whole coffee is bought by me and given as Christmas gifts to tons of people here in Colorado. It is one of my favorite things to drink that contains caffeine and keeps people around me safe. This man is my hero. He started roasting his coffee the old fashioned way (ask him, it’s a funny story) and then started experimenting. It grew into a business that he works at part time, he is open on Saturdays from 8:30am-2pm. It’s his passion, his shop is tiny, his smile is HUGE and he LOVES what he does. Go out and help a local man who knows what he’s doing and doing it right! P.S. Try his cold brew, it’ll change your life.

Bruncheonette – Menu with Prices – 1011 W Broadway Ave, Spokane

his is completely not their fault at all but they do not know how to do a French press. My thoughts on this are that if you’re going to offer this on the menu then at least know a tiny bit about coffee. The server put way too little actual coffee in the French press so no matter how long it brewing it was still light brown water. The purpose of the French press is to be able to control how long and how strong the coffee would be. This is very different from regular drip coffee. She argued with me saying that I didn’t order the correct roast. I just asked to exchange it for drip coffee then ended up getting coffee later on down the street. Again, just learn how to do a French press if you’re going to offer it in a restaurant. Lastly, and this is my biggest complaint, they force a service charge on the bill that is separate from the tip you’re expected to leave. They claim that this is for the entire staff but then you’re expected to leave a tip on top of that which you end up leaving about 30 or 35% when all is said and done. I did leave a tip on top of that but I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed in the whole experience and a lot more broke than when I walked in. Save your money!!!!

Coffee Science – Menu with Prices – 410 S Broad Ave, New Orleans

Coffee Science is a super great local spot! It’s open until 7pm every day which is nice when you need some caffeine later in the day but want something smaller than Starbucks with cool brews. They’ve got so many different types of coffee, you can choose which beans you want and the style- pour over, french press, aeropress, you name it, they’ve got it! It’s nice to be able to try a coffee bean with the way you would make it at home before you buy a bag of it, which is one of my favorite parts of Coffee Science. Plus, all the employees are super personable and knowledgeable about coffee and all their products and are more than happy to answer your questions, but not in a snobby way at all. It’s a great place to stop by and do work- plenty of outlets, grab a drink to go, or stay for a bit outside on the covered porch or in the back yard at one of the picnic tables. Only qualm is that parking isn’t always super easy to come by. As far as actual coffee goes, love their espresso (I do wish it was served with sparkling water instead of still), they’ve got a ton of fun beans to try that rotate, and they’re always happy to suggest a cup if you’re not sure of what you’re feeling.

Atomic Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3100 Airway Ave, Costa Mesa

Very hard to locate the entrance. If you’re using GPS, slow way down as you get close, and look for a red banner at the entrance to a business complex. Parking in stalls 113. Order at the first counter you see, take a seat, and wait for food to come to you! Pay afterward. TINY hole-in-the-wall place. Maybe 6 small tables and a couple spots at the counter. Food is fresh and good, and made to order. I got the Ion Panini (chicken, melted swiss, sun-dried tomato paste, artichokes, mushrooms), which had slices of actual chicken breast, not that processed deli stuff. Bread was crispy, ingredients were balanced. I got French press coffee, and they left the press at the table haha. I’m going to be wired! I also got bacon on the side, which came out crispy and gloriously thick-cut. Wish I could stay here all morning and read while nibbling on bacon and coffee, but the chairs aren’t very comfortable (small, light, hard plastic, wobbly). Still, it’s a place with good food, and everyone has been really nice. Definitely mom-and-pop vibe.

Gotta Eat Tacos – Menu with Prices – 1927 Riverside Dr, Los Angeles

Stopped by here during my stay in Los Angeles with my boyfriend since my Airbnb was a couple blocks away. For a dollar the tacos were AMAZING. Don’t just pass by this place when you drive by. You will regret it!

Coffee Cycle – Menu with Prices – 1632 Grand Ave, San Diego

Stopped by Coffee Cycle to meet with a friend from NY and WOW!!! First time there and had a black iced tea with Chris the owner. Simply fantastic and highly recommend stopping by when you are in town. Chris is extremely passionate about coffee and tea and has only the best ingredients. I plan on taking my wife from Carlsbad to Pacific Beach soon just so she can appreciate the uniqueness that is Coffee Cycle. Thanks Chris for creating something truly different and great customer service. Great job and I hope much success for you in the future because you deserve it!!!

Coffea Roasterie and Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 500 S Highline Pl Suite 110, Sioux Falls

Since it’s fall the wife wanted her dose of pumpkin spice latte. We ended up at Coffea where I got the French press and wifey got Coffea’s version of Pumpkin spice latte- the Charlie Brown. The drinks took a while to be made but were well worth the wait. The French press came in a fancy looking beaker and was well made. Ditto with the pumpkin spice latte, very well made, not too sweet and with perfectly done latte art. All in all a wonderful option when you’re looking to splurge a little compared to the usual takeout coffee.

Lineage Coffee Roasting – Menu with Prices – 3201 Corrine Dr, Orlando

Lineage is a staple at East End Market. For me it’s the best coffee in town. The first pour-over coffee I ever had was at Lineage and I don’t think I ever really knew that coffee could be better than what I had grown accustomed to until I had a pour-over here. It’s not close to me whatsoever but I will drive 20 min out of my way on occasion just to get coffee here. As far as quality, I’ve never been disappointed. The people that work here are always on point and friendly and I can honestly say that I’ve never been disappointed. Now, the line can get long and some cups can take longer than others especially the pour-over but consequently, the quality is never in question nor is the effort to provide a qaulity cup of coffee. I highly recommend Lineage to any coffee connoisseurs, you won’t be disappointed.

The Tune Up – Menu with Prices – 1795 Pearl St, Boulder

I bought a great bike at Full Cycle. But in the first month it developed this loud squeaky/squawky noise. I took it in a few times & the Full Cycle crew happily replaced the bottom bracket. The squeak/squawk remained. These guys are MASTERS at what they do & I had no doubt they could fix the problem. But their CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SO GREAT that, rather than asking me to put my bike in the shop a few more times trying to find the source of the mysterious squawk, they REPLACED THE ENTIRE BIKE! What’s more is, when I picked up the new bike, I watched Joe work on it. The precision and care he put into his work was astounding. Everyone at Full Cycle has this increasingly rare thing called INTEGRITY. This the the best bike shop, with the best product choice, the best service, and the best beer in Boulder (a town that sets a high bar for sure). But I’m guessing it’s one of the best shops in the nation. I mean, what could be better? They have it all: product choice; expertise; friendly crew that is //never condescending//; master mechanics; very cool owner, plus beer, coffee, and munchies at their friendly bar. You don’t even have to be a bike freak to enjoy Full Cycle. But if you are a bike freak, well, seriously, this place is great. Along with everything else, Full Cycle CREATES COMMUNITY. I can’t say enough good things about Full Cycle. Thanks for listening/reading.

Press Coffee Bar Belmont – Menu with Prices – 732 Watervliet Ave, Dayton

Press Coffee Bar in Belmont is a second location for the very well established Press on Wayne Ave. Aesthetically the shop is gorgeous. One of the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shops I’ve seen in any city. The front is all large glass windows flooding the room with natural light. Once inside, visually there is a minimal black and white color palette with only one color throughout the store — neon orange on the microfiber cloths. The ceilings are very high and the seating is pretty communal. The space is welcoming and energizing. Service is friendly, knowledgable, and thoughtful. The attention to detail is on another level, and it reminds me of why Press is so enjoyable. Before I came and hung out for a bit, I never would have guessed that reviewing Press’s second location would start off without pour overs. At any other third wavy coffee shop, you might be surprised to look at the menu and not see pour overs… but at Press it made me curious. Instead of pour overs at this location, they offer a very very high quality batch brew. Coming from someone who always gets pour overs over batch brew (drip coffee) anywhere else because freshness is so important to me. Press has done some wizardry here to be able to offer an incredibly fresh batch brew. The batch is different in the mornings and the afternoons. The Ethiopia Hambela one afternoon of opening week was top notch. One cool idea: they’ve come up with an uncommon cup size — the small is 7 oz which turns out to be the perfect size for that late afternoon to early evening visit where you don’t want a big cup of coffee. The standard array of espresso drinks are offered as well. The gibraltar glasses are really nice. There is no wifi at this location. They aspire to keep this focus and for you to have a conversation with your neighbor instead. (The downtown location will continue to have wifi.) As with the other Press location all of the coffee is self-roasted by Wood Burl.

Liberty Coffee Menu with Prices 7800 S 1st St, Austin

Dont fly by South 1st/Ditmar without stopping for Liberty Press coffee at TheThicket Food Park. After the introduction of Liberty Press coffee to my palette, my coffee tastes are more robust. The friendly owners, Hayden and Alex are there EVERY MORNING, EVERYDAY serving coffee and breakfast pastries. Friendly service, great coffee. Consistency and quality is key here. We’ve enjoyed the Vanilla Iced Latte with almond milk, the Young Gheezy, and Black Eye. I recommended all three. Order your coffee under shaded seated covering . Also, great place to grab a coffee and let your kids run off their energy in the shaded playscape. Came here on a Sunday morning and there was a steady flow of patrons stopping in on foot as well as vehicle. Plenty of parking. Plenty of pleasant hellos. There must be something in that coffee ;).

Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders – Menu with Prices – 26910 Sierra Hwy Unit D-2, Santa Clarita

What stands out most about this coffee shop is simply: the coffee. A lot of coffee shops try to gimmick or style their way into business – not Bodhi. The interior is niche and interesting, possibly a little distracting if you’re not used to the style, but not drab or over the top. But their focus is the coffee, with dozens of options between brewing methods and type of coffee (or other drinks), there is something for everyone, and even coffee connoisseurs are not easily dissuaded from the quality here. Easily some of the best coffee in SC, if you like or love coffee, give it a try. If you don’t like it, try something else, they have something for you! Service is great, they are very kind and friendly, and they are quick as well. There aren’t an abundance of places to sit, though there are chairs inside (tables and a bar) and outside, which might be their one slight, but it’s usually not so busy that there is nowhere to sit. Overall, a great coffee shop with options to satisfy just about anyone and good service as the cherry on top.
