Who DOESN’T love a bowl of steaming hot pho on a cold and raining December night? I’m pretty sure if you hate that, you also hate humanity. While not exactly right in my back yard (it’s up by Walmart on Meridian St), it’s got OK parking, friendly service (I’m looking at YOU, Pho 99), and the food came out promptly. No, I didn’t order the moon, but two bowls of pho and an order of spring rolls typically takes about 20 minutes at some of the other joints in town. Here, it took under 10 minutes. The spring rolls are good and fresh, albeit on the smaller side. But for $3 for two, what else do you want? The peanut sauce is fairly generic, but again, that’s not the selling point here. We got #3 pho, which was meatballs and steak, and to my delight, the steak was bleeding when it came out. Cooking in the boiling broth, like it should be. And there was a LOT of it. Meatballs are meatballs, so not much to do with that one, but let’s talk about the broth. You can get the normal beef brother, sate, or sweet and spicy. Now – spicy doesn’t mean “spicy.” It just doesn’t, so be prepared to add in your own sriracha. The flavor, though, is worth it. The sate reminds me of a ramen broth, but I’d probably not ever get anything but the sweet and spicy one, even if it is an extra $0.75. As it was my first time here, I didn’t get egg noodles, but those are truly my favorite and I’m going to guess that egg noodle pho with the sweet and spicy broth would be divine. As it was getting late and the idea of bubble tea on top of the gigantic bowl of liquid I just ate was making me feel floaty, I opted for next time. I have heard they’ve got some of the best bubble tea this side of the border, though, so I’m going to have to test it some day soon.

Pho Que Huong – Menu with Prices – 2713 W 15th St, Plano

Convenient to work so thought I would give it a try. The menu is good sized but not overwhelming, the price is right, and the portions are large. The service and turnover seems to be pretty quick and they have seating for most parties, though it was a little crowded when we walked in. Did the trio appetizer so I could try an egg roll, a spring rolll, and their meatballs. The egg rolls are the MVP , mostly meat and have a great texture (very close to bistro b). The spring rolls are average: the sauce is good, I would order them again just because I like spring rolls, but wouldn’t try to impress with them. The meatballs were ok: really I think the other 2 items overshadowed them as they had decent flavor and weren’t dry or anything. I would have preferred to see crab ragoons or something as the third item, but the trio is not bad as it stands if you can’t decide on something. The broth didn’t blow my mind, but The large bowl comes with so much meat that they include some of it in a side bowl with more broth. I almost asked for more noodles. The include all the basic stuff you need to doctor your pho, so if you do that anyway then this is great. The rice dishes I saw looked fantastic, and I was reasonably happy with everything I ordered. I’ll be back to explore more.

Pho Vietnam – Menu with Prices – 8602 W 133rd St, Overland Park

Living in Lawrence I don’t get a lot of options to have a good bowl of pho. This is one thing I miss about Wichita. We were excited to try Pho Vietnam after a day of running around and my son is a big Pho fan, it’s his first choice if he’s allowed to pick dinner. When you first walk in the restaurant is clean and inviting. They sat us right away because we came at slow time and quickly served water without even having to ask. We opted to get the crab Rangoon and spring rolls for an appetizer. Those were both really good ! The crab Rangoon filling was flavorful, had a good amount of meat, and was crispy. The spring rolls had flavor which was good because there are times I’ve had spring rolls and they jus taste like rice paper. The peanut sauce for dipping was delicious as well ! If I could have just got the spring rolls I would have been happy with my whole meal ! I opted for the P1 which is a more simple bowl of pho with the steak and my son got the same with no meat. The broth was full of flavor but the portion was smaller than I anticipated it to be. All the veggies I received on the side were fresh. The only down fall were the noodles felt like they had been cooked before put into the broth so after a couple minutes good too mushy for my liking. All in all I was happy with my order ! We also had the pork chop which was a little overdone and had a marinade that was almost candy sweet like which after a few bites is a bit off putting. My husband got the charbroiled pork fried rice and it was ok but it wasn’t like WOW this is so good I’ll get it again. Overall I’m glad I finally got a decent bowl of pho and I’ll probably just stick to ordering only noodle soups here.

Tran’s Seafood – Menu with Prices – 3346 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Fort Myers

Don’t let the name fool you because this is NOT a seafood restaurant, it’s an awesome tiny Vietnamese restaurant and supermarket! We have been there several times and so far we have had the Pho, egg rolls, spring rolls and bahn mi. The egg rolls and spring rolls are the perfect pairing because the hot crunchiness of the egg rolls are an excellent companion to the cold, crisp freshness of the spring rolls. The bahn mi is very tasty but the Pho is where it’s at. The broth has so many layers of flavor that you can tell it’s the real deal and make sure you come hungry because the bowls are huge! We always get the Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Pho) because we love everything in our Pho but you can order it any way you want it if you’re scared of tendon or tripe. But don’t be afraid because it’s all delicious!

Pho Kingdom Anaheim(Noodle Soup) Menu with Prices 1150 N Harbor Blvd Ste 160, Anaheim

This was honestly one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I came for lunch on 11/28 with my two children. We are huge fans of pho and Vietnamese food and were very excited when this spot opened as it is very near my home. I ordered the Regular pho with 1-2 meats, my son ordered the pho broth with noodles, my other son ordered stir fry chicken. We also ordered spring rolls and egg rolls. The young man that took our order was nice but not very attentive. It was not very busy but he kept disappearing to the back. The vegetables used to add to the pho looked past their prime and the bean sprouts were not white and crunchy they were floppy and pale brown. Obviously very old. The pho broth was not clear and flavorful. It was cloudy and you could see the bits of beef floating in the stock. I wanted my 1-2 meats to be rare steak. Well I was charged an additional $3 for a tiny bowl of rare steak swimming in lukewarm bloody broth. The noodles were not vermicelli rice noodles rather they were all different sizes and thickness like someone threw leftover noodles in a pot together. There were hardly any on the pho. My sons stir fun plate looked delicious but the steamed rice came out rock hard and crispy again serving unsafe, old dried out food. The spring rolls were absolutely horrendous and had one tiny sliver of meat and shrimp and were overloaded with lettuce and no noodle. This had to be the worst pho place I have ever been to. It is too bad because I absolutely love pho and due to the horrible food quality I will never patronize this place again.

Pho Vietnam Restaurant Menu with Prices 602 E Fireweed Ln, Anchorage

This is my go-to spot for pho in Anchorage. I’m surprised none of the reviews have explicitly mentioned it so far, but the owner behind all the Pho Vietnam locations actually works here. Let that be indicative of the quality you should expect. The broth here is satisfyingly rich with a pleasant body. Not masked with sugar or under-seasoned like most places have it. Portions are sizeable and the service is consistently great. One would be remiss not to order the pho combo, which basically comes with everything you’d ask for in a bowl of pho: steak, tendon, brisket, tripe, meatballs. In other words, a meat orgy. Noticeably absent is oxtail, which can be ordered as its own separate thing. If you’re looking to change it up, the spicy noodle soup (aka bun bo hue) is a great alternative, provided you can handle a little fuego. Another great option is their vermicelli combo–a dry noodle dish with freshly grilled meat and some fried spring rolls. Suffice it to say, Pho Vietnam 8 might just be the best place in Anchorage to get pho. With an extensive menu covering both Vietnamese and Thai cuisines, there’s something here for everybody. Unless you flat out hate Asian food, to which I say, “get woke, son!” (sorry)

Gia Minh Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 6181 Fraser St, Vancouver

There are four vegan items are on the menu: vegan spring rolls, vegan salad rolls, vegan pho, and vegan sub. The salad rolls are wrapped around a mildly salty tofu/tempeh. These rolls are tender and fiberous as a filling appetizer. It is served with peanut sauce for more delicious flavour. The peanut sauce is a love or hate accoutrement. It is supplanting the tempeh flavour, and I’m not able to taste tempeh. This is despite the good taste. I would recommend eating the salad rolls as it is, and the peanut sauce is good for your bean sprouts. I recommend chomping-down with the tofu side on tongue. Unlike others, the spring rolls are thinner but sweet. The crispy outer is clean and plane. Every bite is smooth in the centre, and it is a sweet starchy inside. I am told that it’s made with veggies, mungbeans, and bean sprouts. The vegetable broth is not a simple vegetable broth from a Campbell’s stock. When you first receive it, a sip is warm enough to get blood rushing to your ears. The flavour is bold and salty to remind you of cold winter seasons behind a steaming soup that one might enjoy as much as desert. The noodles are like the typical rice noodles. They are elastic, chewy, and flavourful by the sweetness. The large bowl is a larger noodle bundle to enjoy. You should wait for the noodles to soak the broth, so it’s easy to pull. I recommend eating the noodles for a while, and you should add bean sprouts when you find the soup too salty. With the bean sprouts, the soup is balanced and a mix of salty and washed-out flavours. The sandwich is same tofu as salad rolls. The bread, the cucumbers, carrots, bell peppers, cilantros, and jalapeños are standard and good. I should ask for no butter/mayo for a vegan version. I prefer the salad rolls to this sub.

Pho Duong Restaurant Fairfax – Menu with Prices – 9412 Main St, Fairfax

Alas, a solid pho establishment to rival the best in Northern Virginia. They’ve got everything you could ask for, and more. Pho? Rice bowls? Done and done. Vietnamese Iced Coffee? Check. And a lot more entrees that you’ve probably never heard of or would venture to try. Being that “Pho” is in the name, of course you must base your initial review primarily on the pho. There are three things I generally pay attention to, with the fourth being a bonus: 1) Broth: Broth is Queen (or King, inclusivity, ya’ know). If you don’t have the right broth, the bowl of noodles quickly becomes anything other than pho. On this mark, the broth did well – full of flavor, depth, and a slight cinnamon spice undertone. 2) Noodles: I don’t like it when all the noodles clump together and you end up picking up a ball of noodles with each bite. Are we eating individual strings of noodles or is it going to be a noodle-ball? Please. Here I was a little disappointed as the noodles tended to be stuck together as if they had been sitting in the back for a while, but also because the noodles were a tad thicker than I typically like for pho. It just makes for a very, very filling bowl. 3) Meat: I do love my fatty brisket, and Pho Duong delivers. Some places just have “brisket,” but real pho places that stand above the rest have “fatty brisket” and “brisket.” Just make sure to do that extra push-up or pull-up to make up for the extra calories from the “fatty” portion. 4) Bonus Sate: It’s a great delight when I come to a pho restaurant to find that they have the sate sauce. It’s that slightly charred spicy chili sauce. A nice smokey singed flavor with a twinkle of sweetness. This sate sauce was slightly sweeter than some of the others, but was still a backseat to the savory smokey oiled chili flakes that make your taste buds want to jump for joy. Oh, and self-serve sate sauce on your table? Perfect; no longer do I need to keep asking for more sate sauce from the waiter. One last thing I’ll touch on is the Vietnamese Coffee. Some places I suspect do Vietnamese Coffee in large batches and just fill up glasses throughout the day from this large batch. This is not the proper way a restaurant should be serving you this drink as it does no justice to the coffee nor the patron. Others, like Pho Duong, use a proper French Press to make the coffee (takes 5-10 minutes), which they bring to you and you ultimately press down at your leisure. The experience of pressing down is key to a 5-star experience. You know you’re getting the real deal. Big props to Pho Duong for this, as we will know it’s not some deeply preserved instant-coffee packets being used in the back from god knows how long ago. TL;DR: Pretty much a five-star establishment, although I had to round from 4.5 to 5. I would have knocked half a star for the noodles that were a bit too thick for my liking, and a bit too stuck-together. Nonetheless, the breadth and depth of the menu, along with the proper brewing of Vietnamese Iced Coffee seals the deal. Pho Duong should be at the top of your list anytime you’re within a 10 mile radius of it.

Ton Kob Thai Bistro – Menu with Prices – 1565 Eureka Rd Suite #9, Roseville

This is going to be on our regular list! Already wondering when we’re going to be able to come back! They are family owned and some of the nicest people ever- pretty sure we’ll be on a first name basis by the end of summer lol! I had the chicken satay and it was yummy with 2 sauces on the side- a peanut sauce and a cucumber sauce. We shared the freshest spring rolls with a sweet chili dipping sauce – delish! My hubby had pad Thai with shrimp and beef – he does not like to share but had no choice lol because when it arrived the smell made me want to climb over the table and into the bowl of sweet and spicy goodness. You can also order your sauces on the side from 1-10, 10 being the hottest – I’m weak sauce so I’ll always be a 1! Come and see these peeps and give them so much deserved love cause you’ll get it back in everything they do

Pho Green Papaya – Menu with Prices – 13215 SE Mill Plain Blvd Ste C2, Vancouver

Daughter took me here because it’s been cold and wet all day. Really nice relaxed atmosphere. We were sitted right away and was given a menu. The waiter was friendly and already have us our water. So many to choose from but we knew were going to eat Pho. Took awhile for me to decide but I’m the end, my daughter and I we’re ordering the same. I can’t remember the number but it was flanked steak and we added meat balls. I always eat my Pho with a sandwich. The waiter recommended to try grilled bbq pork. So I did. For appetizers we ordered shrimp spring rolls. It comes with peanut dipping sauce. I was already excited anticipating our meal! Within minutes, spring rolls were served. My kid and I dived right in. So yummy and refreshing! Light in the guts too. I had room for more that is coming lol… I didn’t even count to 10 when my sandwich arrived! It was a pretty long sandwich like a sub. I had to cut it in half. It was toasted and warm. Now people, you must eat all your veggies that comes with the sandwich! It gives it that authentic flavor that is out of this world. Without the veggies, it’ll be just an ordinary sandwich. So you must EAT the veggies! Finally the Pho. I must say, the broth itself is soothing for the soul. Ahhhhhh! Yummmm!! So much meat in it and this is by the way is a regular size bowl. Their servings are plentiful. Not unless you haven’t eaten for a few days then I recommend you order regular.so much noodles and meat and the veggies again, you must eat all your veggies!! Overall, the service, the food and atmosphere will definitely make me come over and over again. Thank You Pho Green Papaya! I’m coming for more!

Krua Thai Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 7603 W 21st St, Wichita

This placed used to be so awesome. I’m not 100% sure but I think new owners took over and this place has really gone downhill since then. Either way the service is now abysmal and after my experience tonight I definitely won’t be back. Ordered my usual Spring rolls, Chicken Panang, Chicken Pad Thai. Picked up and got home – which is more than 10 minute drive – to find my spring rolls weren’t included. Called up to ask for the cost of my spring rolls to be credited back on the card I used. Not only did the lady argue with me and remain adamant that they did not forget my rolls but then said the only thing they could do is give me a credit for my next order. Nope. Not good enough. Especially when you are calling me a liar, raising your voice and won’t even offer an apology. Why on earth would a customer of several years try to ‘swindle’ you for a single order of spring rolls lol?!

Pho and Rolls – Menu with Prices – 8048 N Cedar Ave, Fresno

Okay, so we have been here twice in the last 10 days and I have to say I am so glad that they have opened near our house. There are a few pho places on this side of town but this place is legit. First, the staff are so very nice and friendly. They really go out of their way to make sure that you are taken care of. They have a great variety of food including Pho (of course), Pad Thai, some Chinese dishes, and of course spring rolls and egg rolls. The food here is very fresh and enjoyable. My husband, who fancies himself as a pho expert, says that the broth is in his top 2 in Fresno, which is a big compliment. The spring rolls are very fresh and the egg rolls are tasty. You can choose from various types of egg rolls, which is great because I like the veggie ones. I have had the pad Thai and the vermicelli salad, both which were quite tasty. I find myself leaning towards the pad Thai and would highly recommend that. I am sorry that the other person who has reviewed this place had a bad experience, however, I think that because they did not actually get to try the food, it is hard for them to really judge the restaurant or the food. I have had a similar experience with door dash, unfortunately so I understand.

Cafe Mai-Mai – Menu with Prices – 8636 Granville St, Vancouver

A hole-in-the-wall establishment located near the corner of Granville and 70th. Not expecting good decor or service, and my expectations were definitely met. However, the dining space and utensils did not look or feel dirty, at least to the human eye and touch. Main selling point is msg-free pho, which may appeal to some people. Menu includes the classic Vietnamese appetizers, pho, vermicelli and rice dishes. They also have specials like bun bo hue, satay pho and sweet and sour pho. For a weeknight, I didn’t want to be too adventurous so stuck with the classic pho options and ordered the rare beef house special pho: a bowl of vietnamese soup with rice noodles, rare beef, beef balls, tripe and tendons. It is garnished with green onions and cilantro, and served with bean sprouts, basil leaves and lime on the side. Condiments include chili oil, chili sauce and hoisin sauce. The broth could be hotter temperature-wise. It also has a darker brown color which leads me to think soy sauce and/or fish sauce may have been added. Flavor is okay (enough seasoning) but lacking depth. Adding chili sauce and oil to the broth really enhanced the flavor. The various meat toppings were well-prepared and paired nicely with the broth and noodles. Portion size was good for soup and noodle, but amount of meat was slightly lacking. Also ordered the fried spring rolls but they served me the salad rolls instead. Funny enough, the waiter tried to serve the salad rolls to another table that also ordered fried spring rolls. When it finally arrived, I had already finished my pho so timing was not ideal. The spring roll itself is wrapped with Chinese spring roll wraps. My preference is the double wrapped rice paper spring roll variant that I have grown to love while visiting Ho Chi Minh. The filling was a bit bland, so the complementary fish sauce was a welcome sight and added much needed flavor to each bite. Maybe I should have kept the salad roll instead…. My overall experience was underwhelming, which is unfortunate as pho here is decent. Service can be improved and menu/decor should be updated. You can find much better pho and vietnamese food in other parts of town, but do visit if you are in the area and craving a bowl of pho – just remember to skip everything else, including the washrooms.
