Stopped into the Hop & Brew in Sisters for coffee with my son who is hiking the PCT. After taking him back to the trailhead, I came back to try the grilled tuna sandwich, which is a favorite of mine. When the server brought the sandwich, I let out a little groan because it was on a big roll and I was afraid it would be too much bread. I took one bite and OMG, best grilled tuna I’ve ever had (and I’m kinda old) and the roll was the best roll I’ve ever bitten into. So, this review is as much about Big Ed’s Bakery in Bend as it is about Hop & Brew. The crust and texture of this toasted roll was incredible. On top of that, the tuna salad was delicious as well. People were friendly. Place is clean. I live in Portland but I doubt if I’d drive through Sisters without stopping in for another sandwich…even if I had to wait a while for my food. And, in Bend, I will definitely go to Big Ed’s.

Gandolfo’s New York Deli Menu with Prices 107 E Stuart Rd, Bellingham

Service is fantastic, the cashier woman at the front is super friendly and caring. I got the Rockefeller Reuben, which is a hot sandwich. I chose pastrami and spicy mustard. The bread got soggy pretty quickly and I think it’s because it’s not grilled/toasted enough while the inside is scorching hot. The contents of the sandwich were good except for those two things. If the bread was toasted further, it would have not gotten soggy. This also happened when I got another sandwich couple years ago. Maybe it would have been different if I got a roll sandwich. Also, I don’t know what type of pickle it was but it did not taste fresh; it tasted a bit stale and kinda old. The prices are pretty spendy for sandwiches. Mine was about $13 plus tax. For this type of sandwich, it should be two or three dollars cheaper.

Chester’s Philly Grill Menu with Prices 2195 S Chambers Rd, Aurora

This was a very pleasant surprise. Being a native of the Philadelphia area I am quite provincial when it comes to my cheesesteaks. I found this as a result of being in this area at lunch time with no plans and checking Yelp for lunch ideas. Small place, no frills, friendly woman behind the counter. Seems to be a Mom & Pop operation which is near and dear to my heart. Ordered an “Original” regular size and a fountain drink, $9.12. The sammich was a little larger than what I expected at that price. Overall good quality, well grilled onions and the most overlooked feature – a toasted roll. If you’ve read this far then you’re the type that knows that the roll MAKES the sandwich. Since they don’t have Amoroso, they took a lemon (non-Amoroso roll) and made lemonade (toasted that sucker). Truly elevated the flavor. I will be back to try their house special.

Prinzo’s Bakery Menu with Prices 344 Delaware Ave, Albany

When you heard the words, “served on a Prinzo’s hard roll” it’s a good bet the sandwich being described is well worth your time. That’s because whoever is making the sandwich has gone out of their way to source some of the best hard rolls in the Capital Region. The fact that the Prinzo’s empire is run out of this little storefront on Delaware Avenue is a minor miracle. My first visit to this bakery was underwhelming, but I simply didn’t get the appeal of hard rolls. I had moved from California, and still to this day when I hear something described as “hard” I think of those thick crusts on rustic loaves. “Hard roll” still feels like a strange term for these relatively soft sandwich rounds. No, they aren’t as soft as dinner rolls… but hard? Sigh. Still. An egg and cheese sandwich on a grilled Prinzo’s hard roll is just about as good as it gets. It’s a regional staple, and when done right, I would put the sandwich up there as one of my favorite regional delights. Is Prinzo’s the very best? I have yet to do a full tour of various bakeries trying out their hard rolls, so I cannot tell you for sure. But now that I’ve said that aloud, it’s going to have to happen sooner rather than later. Maybe, just maybe, after the tour, Prinzo’s will get its fifth star from me. Not that it needs it. People who have grown up with the rolls from this bakery are life long fans. And I totally get it. My apologies for getting it so wrong my first time around, and for taking so long to correct the record. Prinzo’s is a gem, and their hard rolls are a local legend for good reason.

Lic’s Deli & Ice Cream – Menu with Prices – 5216, 2311 W Virginia St, Evansville

A hot day and little free time led me to Lic’s! New to Evansville, so a visit to Lic’s was absolutely necessary. While I thought I wanted ice cream, I ended up with a tuna melt – the extensive deli menu includes hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, salads and soup(s). My tuna melt was delicious! Grilled to perfection! It comes with potato chips – just regular chips. Following the tuna sandwich, I felt like I could handle some ice cream. I couldn’t decide between cappuccino and Reese’s Oreo ice cream. Best solution? One scoop of each, please! Both were tasty, but I’ll probably keep working through the flavor list on subsequent visits. Neither flavor was GOTTA HAVE it again level of amazingness. I got a “To Go” order for my husband of a buffalo chicken salad sandwich (a cold sandwich) and a cup of spicy chili. Staff was helpful and pleasant. I really liked the old-time ice cream parlor feel to the interior decor.

Juice Adventure – Menu with Prices – 935 Otay Lakes Rd, Chula Vista

Decided to try this place out for lunch today after reading the raving reviews. Got myself a tuna sandwich and açaí bowl. Ordered carry-out through Yelp/Grubhub; filling out my order was pretty clear and straightforward. Took my first bite of the tuna sandwich…..oh my, now I understood why people really like it. Not gonna lie, was first a bit confused on all of the hype on the tuna sandwich here lol, but it’s delicious!! Tuna spread doesn’t have too much mayo mixed into it which is a huge plus for me. The fixings were all of the right ones (carrots, onions, tomatoes, banana peppers); crispy crunchy goodness. No soggy sandwich here at all with the toasted wheat bread…..and idk how to describe the bread…..I think it’s buttered or something? Because even the bread was tasty lol. As for the açaí bowl, I like how they use the açaí base from the Açaí Roots brand. Holy moly, they don’t skimp on the açaí base here and here they prepare the base to make it have a very creamy consistency. The strawberries on top could’ve been more ripe but hey at this point I’m just trying to find things to nitpick lol. Small interior and humble exterior, but a great spot for a quick clean-tasting meal. I enjoyed my lunch very much lol. Plentiful lot parking.

Bug & Belle Bakery – Menu with Prices – 3712 W 32nd Ave, Denver

I’ve tried a lemon strawberry muffin, the cinnamon roll on weekends, quiche and the ham and cheese roll. The rolls are nice if you prefer a savory breakfast. One roll is plenty big and satisfying. Nice chewy texture with crispy cheese and ham. The lemon strawberry muffin was delicious. I prefer a dense muffin and this one was a nice mixture of dense and light. The lemon was a beautiful flavor with tart fresh strawberries. The muffin was perfectly sweet without being overbearingly sweet like many muffins out there tend to be. The cinnamon roll was perfect. I really enjoyed the frosting. Hopefully they can add the frosting to some of their other baked items such as the muffins. Quiche was really nice seasoning with Asparagus, fontina and ham. Lee delicious only suggestion would be to have a heavier crust as it was very delicious. Finally a nice bakery that’s in the ‘hood, Highlands!

The Sparrow Bakery Menu with Prices 50 SE Scott St, Bend

Is Cupid now writing Yelp reviews? Thanks to cherub-like Yelpers spreading 5-star arrows of amour for the trendy French-inspired Sparrow Bakery in Bend, I was seemingly charmed even before an introduction. The adoration was real. My yearning unquenched. Oh, little Sparrow, let me meet thee before I count the ways that I love thee. The line was real. Was the passion? One brunch would decide. Aye, the Ocean Roll was indeed a swirling tide of sweet cardamom baked into crisp waves of enchantment. There might be better baked buns for breakfast, but you’re in Bend … and this truly might be the best. A Croissant Sandwich with Poached Egg wasn’t nearly as dreamy, but it was legit … and filling. I wouldn’t hesitate to order one again to see if we can move our relationship beyond friendship to fondness. A creamy ending came in the form of a luscious Eclair oozing heavy Bavarian Cream. You don’t have to make this your breakfast dessert, but your sweet tooth will surely be satiated once it touches your lips. No need to be coy about this. Bend to cupid’s arrow, more straight than narrow, for zealous love of a Sparrow.

Planet Grilled Cheese – Lakeland Square Mall – Menu with Prices – 3800 US Hwy 98 N, Lakeland

I came here due to a recommendation by a buddy who used to work here. I was a bit iffy, but since I was in the mall anyway I figured I would stop by. First off, the owners were really nice, just cool and accommodating. I ask to modify my sandwich midmake and they did. (Tip: ask for what you want on the sandwich, it like a grilled cheese Subway, also ask for mozarella and Nutella, it’s incredible). The sandwich was really good, great crust, super cheesy and hot. I got the Mac n cheese fries with bacon and they did not disappoint. I couldn’t ask for a better lunch and then I found out they deliver too through takeouthero. Don’t skip this place, check it out you’ll be glad you did.

Old Orchard Cafe – Menu with Prices – 3400 S Southeastern Ave, Sioux Falls

The best tuna salad sandwiches iâ??ve Ever had. Didnâ??t expect that from this little place. Andy who is at the counter is quick with a smile and quick in making your order. Talking about the tuna salad makes me hungry right now. On a crescent roll with lettuce and tomato is the best !

Ryan Bros. Coffee – Menu with Prices – 40573 Margarita Rd, Temecula

I was recently in Temecula visiting some family. I seen this hip coffee shop so I thought I’d try it out. As I walked in the first thing I noticed was the custom coffee mugs on the wall. This coffee shop sells their mugs so the customers are able to decorate them and reuse them. Very eco friendly! I had the Nitro Cold Brew Vanilla coffee. It was delicious and not too sweet. They offered a few different Nitro brew flavors and I wished I tried them all. The menu was abundant, from a variety of coffee to breakfast items to lunch sandwiches and they even had some baked pastries available. What I liked most was that was a good amount of healthy choices to choose from. Again I wished I tried it all. I did order a turkey sandwich. It was on toasted sourdough bread, with cheese, spinach and an avocado spread. Delicious!! It came with your choice of chips or a balsamic spinach & cranberry salad. I chose the salad. The coffee shop was very clean, organized and the staff was welcoming!! I will be visiting again!

Hibachi Express Highland City – Menu with Prices – 5209 US Hwy 98 S, Lakeland

This is my favorite restaurant for sushi! The staff is always so friendly and I can order my food ahead and come straight in and pick it up. My favorite dish is the pink lady sushi roll. It is salmon, tuna, krab, cream cheese, avocado and fish eggs wrapped around the pink soy paper and under it is spicy mayo and eel sauce. The ingredients are always so fresh and delicious every time I get it, it is literally the best sushi roll I have ever had. The soy paper almost melts in your mouth. The only negative thing I could say is I wish they would wrap it a little tighter because it’s a big roll and unless you eat it in one bite it falls apart. The 2nd roll I got on this day was the crazy tuna roll. It is pretty much raw tuna on top of a spicy tuna roll. I think a lot of people would like this but I am not a huge fan and it is just because I do not care for their spicy tuna. I prefer fresh tuna and adding my own spices. The spicy tuna has an odd consistency and I don’t care for the flavor. I don’t usually get their hibachi meals anymore but I have and I get the shrimp lunch. It’s $7.25 for a huge meal with the shrimp, rice and vegetables with your drink included which is such a great deal!! Sometimes when I am on a diet I will just get the shrimp lunch with extra veggies instead of rice and it is yummy! It doesn’t quite taste as good as the hibachi you sit down and it but it is still good and WAY cheaper. I would recommend this place anytime!! I went there last week a friend and I order a sushi roll each in advance and we still had to wait 20mins which is insane. We let a nice young man up at the front know we were waiting he apologized and brought us free soup and drinks!!

Samurai Sushi Bar – Menu with Prices – 3545 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, Lafayette

For some reason we always order sushi from this place. Not sure why we haven’t branched out to many other places, but the food never disappoints! We started off with the Fried-Squid. That came out in big chunks, and it was really fresh. You could tell it didn’t come out of the frozen aisle of a grocery store. Then we had mussels, which I don’t think was worth it. There was way two much mustard that took away from the actual mussel flavor. Plus, they only give you two per order. Not worth it. My favorite thing out of the appetizers was the snow crab and salmon salad. It had a good amount of raw salmon packed into it. I could’ve just eaten that and be completely satisfied. Then for the sushi rolls…we ordered the Tuna Tataky Roll, Spider Roll, Samurai Roll, Koko Roll, and the Rainbow Roll (without rice). The Tuna Tataky Roll was really good. I enjoyed the fresh Tuna on top of the sushi roll. There was a prefect amount of rice in there to counterbalance it. The Rainbow Roll was my favorite out of the five, because it had all my favorite fish inside of one roll. The freshness from the fish is what made it worth the price. The Samurai Roll had way too much rice. It wasn’t very tasty. The other two rolls, the Koko and Spider Roll was okay. Nothing too special about them to me, but I’d definitely prefer those over the Samurai Roll. That concludes my review on this place; I will definitely be back!
