Ok, my bad. I have been asked several times since they opened to come visit The Lemon Tree, but always turned it down as I thought it was a tea and crumpet kind of place. YELP’ers I am stupid I guess. Finally got in a lunch seated outside and found a new favorite eatery. Location, well not the best location for downtown Bend and during peak tourist season parking can be a mother and it can be a packed house. Some of the outdoor seating during lunch has a lot of sun exposure, that is if the sun is out, but there are a few tables around the back in the alleyway with great shade. Indoor seating is not really intimate but very nice, it may also be a little loud when it is packed. Menu, eclectic, worldly, and surprising is about all I can say. I was not familiar with some of the items on the menu but the waiter was awesome and offered a few recommendations for us and they were spot on. Food, amazing! I won’t go into too much detail but will say not overspiced or seasoned beyond the base, real food, real taste. Seriously tastes like homemade food from someone house who knows how to cook. Staff, excellent vibe. We had a long lunch and did not feel like were were rushed to leave which was important as out table has stuff to talk about that day. Everyone was super nice even on a busy lunch day. Value, for Bend it is a value and very equitable. We dropped a big tip out of respect as we lingered a while. We will be back …

The Sparrow Bakery Menu with Prices 50 SE Scott St, Bend

Is Cupid now writing Yelp reviews? Thanks to cherub-like Yelpers spreading 5-star arrows of amour for the trendy French-inspired Sparrow Bakery in Bend, I was seemingly charmed even before an introduction. The adoration was real. My yearning unquenched. Oh, little Sparrow, let me meet thee before I count the ways that I love thee. The line was real. Was the passion? One brunch would decide. Aye, the Ocean Roll was indeed a swirling tide of sweet cardamom baked into crisp waves of enchantment. There might be better baked buns for breakfast, but you’re in Bend … and this truly might be the best. A Croissant Sandwich with Poached Egg wasn’t nearly as dreamy, but it was legit … and filling. I wouldn’t hesitate to order one again to see if we can move our relationship beyond friendship to fondness. A creamy ending came in the form of a luscious Eclair oozing heavy Bavarian Cream. You don’t have to make this your breakfast dessert, but your sweet tooth will surely be satiated once it touches your lips. No need to be coy about this. Bend to cupid’s arrow, more straight than narrow, for zealous love of a Sparrow.

Himalayan Bites Menu with Prices 1424 NE Cushing Dr, Bend

Up here for my son’s annual lacrosse tournament, and the thing to do while in Bend is going to a microbrewery or tap house after our games are done. This time we ended up at On Tap. It’s a great place that’s very family-friendly and they have a wide selection of beers plus, as seems to be the norm in Bend, they have food trucks; one of which is Himalayan Bites. Wanting something different, I ordered the Shaapta which is a spicy stir-fried beef dish tossed with green onions and bell peppers, seasoned with a variety of Himalayan spices and red pepper, and garnished with fresh cilantro. The dish comes with a nice salad with a vinaigrette dressing and a scoop of brown rice. Included with the meal are two dipping sauces. One is much like a salsa and the other seemed like a cilantro cream sauce. I’m not sure, but I preferred the cream sauce. It was wonderful. BTW, if you like spicy food like I do, when they ask you how spicy you want it, tell them to make it really spicy. Otherwise, they’ll probably dumb it down. When I asked for very spicy, the guy asked me how hot was the hottest I’ve ever had, and when I described a Thai basil chicken I’ve had in the past, plus a Habanero/Scotch Bonnet pepper sauce that I make that has 50 to 60 peppers per quart. He just smiled and said that I’ll really like this dish then. I was not at all disappointed. Though the pepper heat was not that strong, it did build up over time to a pleasant burn. And hey! What better way to soothe the heat than with another beer! The Pilsner I had with my meal was a perfect complement to the dish, but I really loved it with the IPA. The bitterness of the hops really brought out the sweetness in the peppers. Without needing to say more, I highly recommend this truck if you’re over at On Tap. I heard they’re also at Crux, so if I happen to go there, I’ll try a different dish. I don’t think I can go wrong with Himalayan Bites.

LEYLA Mediterranean – Menu with Prices – 7418 Beechmont Ave #106, Cincinnati

I’ve done lunch at this location twice, once dining in, and once his carryout. Both times I ordered a meat platter, a grilled vegetable platter, and had ample food to feed two people with plenty of leftovers. It helps that the entrees also come with full salads, in a slightly overdressed, yet light oil and vinegar based dressing. The mixed vegetable grill comes with some amazing sauces, including a tomato and oil base vet is like a pizza sauce on the next level. They’re tzatziki is nice and creamy, tangy, and well-seasoned, without being overbearing. The mixed grilled meats were all incredible, my favorite was the gyro meat, but all of them were good gamma if not spectacular. The first time I dined in with my mother she also ordered a cup of hot tea and the red lentil soup. Both of those came out right away piping hot and had fantastic flavors. The lentils were cooked perfectly so they had just a tooth inus to them, without being mushy, and in a flavorful broth. The t with a nice aromatic mix of spices and herbs that warned you up, cleared you out, and also settle you down all at once. The most important stand out of this place to me though is the Turkish bread, I don’t know if they make it in house, but it is probably one of the best house Bread I’ve ever had, the basket of bread and pita that come with a meal are worth a visit alone. simultaneously rich and flavorful, while complimenting the meat and sauces perfectly. The only reason they’re getting four stars instead of five is that they typically don’t have very many people working during lunch, so if there’s more than one or two parties they get backed up. I called in a lunch order and it was 40 minutes to get grilled meat and vegetables, and then when I got the vegetables they weren’t really grilled all the way through, the takeout order also had a few small mistakes that I had asked for things on the side or to be separated, they weren’t. It happens, I understand they’re a very small business, but I’m looking forward to them expanding adding some other staff and making every aspect match the quality of their food.

La Chimenea Mexican & Sea food Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4172 N Mesa St B, El Paso

La Chimenea is the new ownership and renamed Old Town Mexican Kitchen, a small cozy little cafe nestled in a quiet strip center. So far I have only gone there for burritos. Everything Ive tried so far has been excellent. Many others have come and gone from this location. I hope they make it. It’s nice to have a good diner in walking distance from my house. New owners are upbeat and energetic. Lunch time is always packed.

Rockin’ Dave’s Bistro & Backstage Lounge Menu with Prices 661 NE Greenwood Ave, Bend

This is place is amazing. It is definitely a hidden gem here in Bend. My wife and I were looking for a place to go to that we had never been, and stumbled across this place on Yelp. When we showed up on Thursday night around 7 there were no cars in the parking lot which was a little concerning, not to mention confusing because we would have thought a place with such great reviews would have a packed house every night. We decided to trust the amazing reviews, go in, and check it out. We were so glad we did!

Le French Fix Pâtisserie – Menu with Prices – 5233 Prince St, Halifax

We popped in here to warm up during the Argyle Street Block Party last weekend. Well, that and to get some macarons because who can resist?? They’re a bit pricier than other places I’ve been to but DANG are they good. They have the usual flavours – rose, raspberry, cashew – but they also have some others that I wouldn’t normally think of. Of course I can’t remember what they are at the moment, but I swear they did. The great thing about their macarons though? They’re not overly sweet. They definitely taste like a lot of work and love have been put into them, and not cheap derivative ingredients either. The flavours are subtle, but they taste real. Not like fake raspberry, but like a real one…y’know? We didn’t go upstairs to see the seating area, but I will be back because the woman who helped us was so kind! She was really happy to see that we had gone to World Tea House for tea (we may have had a little gushing session about how amazing their teas are). I was a bit worried they’d be unhappy we weren’t buying drinks from them, but turns out they brew World Tea House Tea, so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

The FlipSide – Menu with Prices – 6844 NW 169th St, Hialeah

You want some drafted crafty beer in Hialeah Beach? Look no further… it holds it weight & although it’s connected to the bend, it’s a completely different atmosphere. I’m talking Belgians, spicy little saisons, obscure micro brews, and rare bottled finds. The love for beer is a culture that has widespread amongst every major city but Hialeah stands it ground with this establishment which proves artisanal beer is not only intended for hipsters. There’s parking, cool people, and shots sold alongside your beer for an overall satisfactory drinking experience. Make your way over to The Bend & you’ll get to soak up all their crafted cocktails as well. It’s nice to see that my hometown finally has a high end watering hole that still keeps it real with an appealing happy hour. On Wednesday’s there’s trivia but you’ll have to cross to the other side to do so. Beerheadz unite here so it’s a def a place to hit up in you’re in Hialeah Beach & you want a smooth brew.

Tanger Kabob House Cafe Menu with Prices 5735 Telegraph Rd, Alexandria

At first, this culinary hole-in-the-Wall might be seen as roadside scenery, but it is worth a look see. This Moroccan kabob joint offers a pretty solid Mediterranean menu that does a nice job transporting your taste-buds to a middle eastern state of yumminess. I opted for an order of traditional hummus and a tasty gyro. My gyro was packed with lamb and all the fixings–in many ways, it’s the perfect meal. My hummus on the other hand was a bit lemony for my taste. This kabob house has a cute little bar inside and serves some refreshing Turkish beer. However, as nice as the bar is, the location is somewhat problematic. It is really difficult to turn that steering wheel into this strip mall when you’re speeding down Telegraph Road on your way toward better things. My dissatisfaction with the location makes me wonder if they deliver, because if they did, I think that would make them one of the only Mediterranean restaurants in the area that delivers.. score!!

The University Club – Madison – Menu with Prices – 803 State St, Madison

This is a great place to visit for breakfast or lunch. It is open to the public. It has that Old World vibe with wood beams, large windows, and real linen tablecloths. This is a place to go to dine when you want to take your time, relax, and just breathe. I took my mom here as a lunch treat. They had a special menu to honor Mardi Gras, but we ordered off the regular menu. We each ordered a cup of the Vegetable Squash soup ($3)and we shared the Turkey and Brie Pannini with roasted red pepper, moustardo and served on pretzel bread ($11). We chose sweet potato fries as the side that would accompany our sandwich. We both ordered ice tea ($2). When I asked our server if the soup was a clear broth or a cream base, she quickly went to the kitchen and found out that it was a clear broth.A variety of breads were served in a bread basket before the soup arrived. The soup came with crackers in small white bowls. The squash and vegetables were well seasoned and the broth was hot, rich and satisfying, especially on such a cold day. Our sandwich was served next with a side of sweet potato fries and a spread/dipping sauce. The sauce was a smooth mayonnaise base with a hint of heat. The Pannini reminded of the kind you can get in a Europe bistro. The sandwich was flattened so that all the ingredients are compacted into a wonderful bite. The sandwich had a slightly sweet taste from the moustardo and roasted red peppers. The turkey was tender and the brie added that creamy richness that melts in your mouth. All in all, a great success as a sandwich. I wish I knew the name of our server, as she was quick and charming. The service was top notch. So, if you want to take a break, I strongly suggest this wonderful, old world restaurant.

Sip. Drive Thru Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 4150 W 11th Ave, Eugene

One of my routine stops whenever I’m in a rush, quick drive up, grab and go. Great service and good quick conversation if you want or you can just chill if you’re not chatty. I’m fairly old fashion(ish), I just like my coffee over ice, black. I can say I really do enjoy the taste of the house coffee, It’s a quality tasting bean, darkish but doesn’t taste burnt. Assuming that’s the base of the many other things they serve; the base is excellent so the rest I’d imagine is great. If you’re into dark coffees, definitely try the cold brew, wonderful tasting beverage. Prices are very fair, I really have no complaints or suggestions, they’re quick and simple which is the point so excellence from every angle.

Teriyaki House – Menu with Prices – 1845 S Rock Rd, Wichita

In the mood for a quick and tasty meal for cheap? Teriyaki house has got you covered! The place is fairly small so don’t wait too long into the lunch or dinner time rush or you maybe getting your meal to go because it’s unlikely that you’ll find a seat as this place is popular with the locals and the workers from base nearby alike! For around a whopping ~$6 you can get a bowl of white rice that has a generous portion of teriyaki chicken or steak on top of it. The flavoring is very nice and the dish is seasoned beautifully while maintaining a nice and tender/juicy meat. If you’re really feeling like going all out and being a tub you can get it with fried rice instead of white rice for your bowl to go that extra mile and make your body truly need a workout! There are also options with vegetables included as well if you’d like to go the other end of the spectrum and be a little more health conscious. The waitstaff is always very welcoming and friendly and the place is kept clean. Not much more you can ask for here so try it out!

Boss Rambler Beer Club Menu with Prices 1009 NW Galveston Ave, Bend

Always excellent food. The chicken and waffles are my personal favorite. Perfectly cooked waffle with juicy chicken that has a good crunch and real maple syrup served on the side. The chicken has been underseasoned one of the two times I’ve tried but I’d been adventuring hard all week and was craving salt like a fiend so my taste buds were an unreliable judge. The breakfast sandwich and polenta with greens are also delicious and for a dinner option, the burger is perfectly simple and delicious. They’re also always refreshing their menus. Classics like the buttermilk waffle are always there but I love seeing what new specials and regular menu items they’re playing with. And they’re really nice about substitutions: don’t eat pork but want a veggie option? They’ll offer to sub a couple eggs no extra charge. This is my favorite Bend food truck. Plus, being set next to Spoken Moto, my favorite coffee shop, makes this a totally winning location.
