A very solid wood-fired pizza out of a truck! The dough/crust is thin in the middle and the edges have a good chewiness (that you’d expect from this type of pizza). I grabbed a Margherita which had a slightly tangy red sauce (I wished it was a little sweeter) and slices of fresh mozzerella and basil leaves. Super good, but also a bit on the oily side with the olive oil addition (my hands were coated by the time I got through a few slices). Roughly $16 with tax and tip – so not super cheap but it was tasty.

Slices Pizza – Menu with Prices – 3284, 3760 W Eau Gallie Blvd #101, Melbourne

This is one of my favorite pizza places in Brevard hands down. I usually come during lunch, they always have different specialty pizzas prepared along with a few classics. Monday’s they have pickle pizza, which is a white pizza with no red sauce and dill pickles, it’s really good and a great way to try something new without committing to an entire pizza! My standard order is two slices, one cheese (which has fresh sliced mozzarella) and one grandma slice (which is a thicker rectangular pizza with chunky tomato sauce and fresh basil). Most recently I tried the marinara pizza (no cheese with fresh sliced garlic and chopped basil) and lasagna pizza, both were really good! They have perfected all components of pizza from their tomato sauce which is not too sweet with great tomato flavor and garlic, fresh sliced mozzarella cheese, and a crispy crust that holds up well to whatever toppings you choose. The lunch special is 2 slices and a drink for $9, plus they have cherry coke which is my favorite. The only negative is their hours are a little funky, but they are open every weekday for lunch which is good for me!

Buon Padre Pizza – Menu with Prices – 1080 E Pecos Rd Suite 23, Chandler

Stopped by due to their advertising outside on single slices. We ordered and sat inside. Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which is the only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one. The pizza arrived on a small metal plate with cheap paper placed on top. The slices looked as if they had sat under a heater since they opened this morning. I wouldn’t doubt it either, they were stiff, cheese was turning a dark color, and the pepperonis were burnt and hard. Upon taking the first bite, I realized I’d tasted this distinct taste before. It was a mixture of Little Cesar’s that you left sitting on your counter at home for a day paired with QT’s Ready To Go slices. I’ve had frozen pizza that has more flavor than this. It was hands down the worst pizza I’ve ever had. Great service, wish it had been paired with great food. I’m stunned to see so many raving reviews.

Basil Prosperi – Menu with Prices – 801 Grand Ave, Des Moines

In the last year, things have really changed here – expanding into pizza and now doing breakfast, as well as baking their own bread in-house. I am not sure any of these developments are for the better… I used to pop in for lunch once a week and loved the old sandwich bread they used before, but now the sandwiches are not anywhere near as good. I don’t see any obvious changes with the pasta dishes, but of course the side of bread has been downgraded. I haven’t had a lunch there in probably a month as nothing appeals to me anymore, or at least not as much as some of the other nearby options. Pizza – well, it was nice of them to let us sample the slices while they were ramping up, and I do think their pizza tastes good. The problem is the pricing is too high unless you can get 3 people together to order a full pie. $4-5 slices, depending on topping, are really not intriguing to me. If they priced them lower, like 2-for-$5, I’d probably opt for their pizza more often. Breakfast – after neighbor Dooley’s went out of bounds, Basil’s attempted to pick up the breakfast business… and I don’t think it is working. They lack simple items, which were also cheap and quick, and instead force you into something more elaborate and expensive. Maybe I’m the only one that sees the negative changes going on… the lines for lunch are still out the door, so I don’t think they’re losing business, but then again they also don’t have a single competitor in their building at this time.

Fringe Pizza – Menu with Prices – 5400 Spine Rd, Boulder

I’ve driven by this establishment a handful of times and was so excited to finally stop in. We called ahead and were told that as their pizzas cook super fast (like warp speed fast) we should just come on down and order upon arrival. I wasn’t quite so sure about this one but decided to give the folks at Fringe the benefit of the doubt. Trekking down the highway (in the snow no less) we were excited to reach Fringe pizza. There are parking spots all along the side of the building and some outdoor seating as well. Entering the establishment I was surprised at how tiny it was. The register was directly on our left and the brick oven was a mere 10 or so feet to the side of the cashier. There were lots of cool stickers adorning the wall behind the register and the mural on the brick wall (facing the register) was colorful and funky. Cool aesthetics if you ask me. Taking in the menu (there are nine full sized pies listed) we decided to go for the Margherita and the Piccante. We proceeded to pay and for serious, within 2 minutes the pies were out and ready to go in their little boxes. Rushing to our destination we couldn’t help but take a peek. The pizzas looked great, smelled great, and were just aching to be cut into slices. If you need your slices cut ahead of time just ask (I did see some pizza cutters at the shop cutely adorned with the “Fringe” logo). The Margherita was quite nice. The mozzarella was fresh as promised and the basil was delightfully peppery and slightly sweet. The Piccante was amazing. San marzano tomato, calabrese salami, calabrian chilis, and more of that fresh mozzarella. I’m not typically a fan of salami but it was definitely a nice addition to this pie. The calabrian chilils were my favorite. They added a bit of heat and sweet. In both instances the dough tasted really good, and on the thinner side. The slices were a little wobbly so I was sure to have my plate handy in case of spillage. I must confess I ate several slices (mostly of the Piccante pizza). Overall two thumbs up!

Ravello Pizzeria – Menu with Prices – 4900 E Bay Dr C, Clearwater

This time I decided to drive over and pick it up. Last time it took over an hour for delivery and pizza was a slight bit better than lukewarm. Personally, I prefer my pizza hot and steaming right out of the oven. I won’t fault these folks for the long delivery time as it was a Sunday afternoon during football season. Anyway, it’s still Lent in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, so that still means no meat for us at any time. What did I order this time, you ask? A white pie? A veggie deluxe?? Plain old cheese??? No, I say! We tried a Margherita pie, which was how the real “first” pizza was supposedly made in mid 19th century Naples. Just some garlic, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil on a thin, crisp crust of fresh dough. Well: this one also had pizza sauce on it. Anyway: there certainly was a decent amount of sliced tomatoes and round, yummy morsels of fresh mozzarella. When I got to the shop, the pizza man was just tearing up basil leaves and sprinkling them onto the hot pie. He even looked at me and said “You couldn’t have timed that any better!” Well: it certainly was hot and it only took me five or so minutes to get back home. So it still WAS hot when I opened the box. I almost always ask for my crust to be well done. They certainly obliged in that regard! It had a nice bit of char which can be hard to get from a gas oven rather than a coal or wood fired one. No bubbles or blisters either, just flat, crispy goodness. The crust was bordering on dry, which is fine. Toppings certainly helped keep it far enough out of the desert. As I stated earlier, they added pizza sauce to the rest of the requisite ingredients. Seemed like a bit much in the sauce department for a Margherita pie, but on the plus side it helped with the garlic and oregano flavor. Fresh mozzarella was good; tomatoes were still juicy and the only criticism is not quite enough basil on the top. The Queen Bee said she’d have it again; I didn’t dislike it at all and nearly half the pie is left for a quick lunch. Not bad for less than $15!

Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza – Menu with Prices – 340 Oyster Point Rd #103, Newport News

My coworkers recommended Papa Murphy’s. They all raved about the pizza, so I had to try it. Normally, I would say that Pizza is pizza, but there is something special about Papa’s. Fresh is the key word with Papa. You get to watch the Pizza’s being made right in front of you from ingredients that are clearly fresh. You might get the impression that weighing the pizzas and ingredients is their way of being cheap, but it is actually maintaining consistency with their pizzas. No nasty faux ingredients like that other pizza joint with a similar name. You have to cook your own pizza at home, but I find that refreshing. It allows me to pick up the pizza and bake it at my leisure, so that the pizza is hot and ready to go when I am. I find that better than pizza made miles away, put in a cardboard box and brought to my house 30 minutes (or more) later. My personal favorite is the Chicago stuffed pizza. It’s so big that I can barely eat two slices. My wife loves the Gluten Free pizza too. I spent under $30 for both of those two pizzas, so the price is reasonable with plenty of leftovers. Mmmm! I’ve eaten Papa Murphy’s pizza many times and it is always consistently delicious.

Zavarellas Pizza – Menu with Prices – 1937 Clements Ferry Rd Suite B, Charleston

I stopped by this place to see what their pizza was about since it’s fairly new and not to far up the street for me. I was great by the owner of the store once I came in. The owner and the employees at the store were very friendly. They even wanted me to come work there for them since they’re hiring and looking for people. If you get a tray, it’s quite a bit of pizza i for sure! One tray is 16 slices and the slices are of good size I’d say. I enjoyed the pizza when I got home to eat some of it. The sauce was different and tasty. The only problem I had with it was that I wished I had of it asked for it to be well done because it seemed like the pepperoni on the pizza could’ve been cooked a lil bit longer than they were. The whole entire thing last me almost 3 days too! Talk about having multiple meals out of 1 tray of pizzas. They have a lunch deal of 4 slices and a drink for $7. Pretty good deal I think. I’m definitely going to have to try that out one of days when I craving some pizza for lunch and don’t want to go to far.

Evil Olive Pizza Bar – Menu with Prices – 198 Union Ave, Brooklyn

I was in Brooklyn last week for some wine events. On Wednesday I didn’t have anything so I went to Connecticut for the day to see a friend from college. I had a scone in the morning but was famished by the time I got back to South B’berg. It was rainy and miserable so I just walked to the local grocery store but they didn’t have any hot food options. I noticed Evil Olive and figured I couldn’t go wrong with a hole in the wall pizza joint. I’m a NYC girl… these places are always good. I had taken a train and several subways to get back to Brooklyn so only the Universe knows what types of germs were coating my hands. I asked the gentleman working if there was a place where I could wash my hands. He said, “There’s a bathroom in the back,” and used his chin to signify the general direction. It appeared I would have to go through the kitchen. Nope. That door that looks like its to a walk in fridge? It’s not. Was surprised at the size of the space and thankful for the cleanliness of the bathroom. I had two slices: a cheese and a buffalo chicken. Both were *phenomenal*. I also had a Dr. Brown’s cream soda. Is there anything better? (Actually yes, Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry, but they were out.) Both were hot, fresh and that perfect mix of crisp and chewy that can only be found in NYC. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy some of the non-pizza items (who are we kidding, I’ll always get pizza) and a cocktail or two. I’m pretty sure this’ll be a five-star review before too long.

Pronto Pizzeria – Menu with Prices – 669 Sterling Lyon Pkwy Unit 1, Winnipeg

This restaurant uses the subway model of preparing food. You have many choices for pizza, the basic is $11 for unlimited toppings, while those who can’t decide can choose from regular favorites. The dough is available in many varieties, gluten free, low carb, whole wheat and others. Sauces are regular, hot and pesto. The toppings are many and fresh and you can choose any combination. The only thing I found is that the regular sauce is too salty. It overpowers the pizza. The crust is great, light and crunchy, the toppings fresh, but the heavy salt actually drowns the flavor. It even burns the edges of your mouth. I think they may be following a trend popular on many pizza YouTube channels, using a simple pizza sauce that is just a big can of Roma tomatoes, basil leaves, and a quarter cup of sea salt. I’m sorry but that’s too much. Pronto should take a savory lesson from the movie “The Godfather”. Cut back the salt. Add a bit of sugar and a splash of red wine, or balsamic vinegar.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken – Menu with Prices – 730 S Mendenhall Rd, Memphis

Gus’s is one of those iconic Memphis spots that every tourist flocks to. Being one of those said tourists, I naturally had to stop by. Instead of visiting the downtown location though, my friends and I came here instead. There’s lots of parking and seating so no wait for dinner, wooo!!! We started off sharing the Fried Okra. Soft, yet crunchy and coated in batter that was fried but didn’t make you feel sick from all the oil, the okra was delicious! We gobbled it right up. One of my friends and I split the Half Chicken and Mac & Cheese. I ate the dark pieces and they were tasty! Whenever it felt too oily, I’d just use the white bread to suck up all the oil, easy! The Mac & Cheese was surprisingly tasty too. An elevated, but still humble Kraft-like Mac & Cheese, just what we wanted in between bites of chicken. Although the food didn’t feel too heavy while we were eating, it definitely expanded in our bellies and we were super full on the drive home. I’m no fried chicken connoisseur, but Gus’s is super tasty and worth the hype!

The Goat & Vine – Menu with Prices – 41911 5th St #100, Temecula

I’m a fan! Always so loud, crowded & always has a waitlist. But service is always great. Everything we tried has been delicious. Expensive. $18-24 for pizzas & I think $12-15 for sandwiches? But the food is so good I keep coming back. The food I tried: (from fav to least) mother’s meatballs: juicy, tender & flavorful. Smothered in a flavorful marinara sauce & cheese. Comes with 2 cheesy bread. So good. Favorite turkey sandwich: I’m not a fan of sandwiches, but I LOVED this. It has brie, basil aioli & fig paste. Sweet, a little tangy, & savory. Just tasty & so good. I crave it often since the day I tried it. Thailand pizza: delicious! Sounds weird, but so good. A little sweet, savory & slightly spicy. The goat pizza: looks so bland & simple but surprisingly flavorful. I love the goat cheese with the basil, tomatoes, hint of lemon zest & the bulb of roasted garlic to smear on top. Steak & Gorgonzola pizza: plated so beautifully. Tender thin slices of steak. It was good. The carnitas pizza: my kids loved this. It’s good, just didn’t suit my taste. There’s so much to try on the menu. I told my husband we aren’t allowed to come back unless we try something new. The popular hatch honey sandwich & pizza is next on my list. Can’t wait to come back!

Sal’s Pizza – Menu with Prices – 6773 Carnelian St, Rancho Cucamonga

Best pizza around the Rancho Cucamonga area I have found! Tried it for the first time, I ordered the XL 2 topping pizza for $23! Slices were huge, they were very generous with the toppings and it tasted delicious!! I normally just eat 1 or 2 “small” slices, like pizza hut sizes, but this pizza was so good I ate 4! And the slices were big I couldve been full with 1! I didnt get to take a photo, I was too hungry! They dont accept debit/credit so be warned of that and its not a sot down restaurant, they’re just a store front. But this is perfect to call ahead and pick up for an amazing dinner! Dont waste time with fast food pizza when you can have the real thing! I will be coming back!
