The first time I came here I was extremely impressed by the freshness and deliciousness of the sashimi. The second time was also pretty impressive, although the jokester behind the counter (I believe he was the sushi chef) said something about how it comes with a side of spit, which freaked my girlfriend out a bit. There was a 20 minute wait which wasn’t really much of a problem. The last time that I came on Thursday, they were very busy and let me know it would be a 15 minute wait for our food (no problem, I have a hour for lunch). After a 45 minute wait my buzzer went off, they tell me they were out of the sashimi that I had ordered and i would have to pick a different (cheaper) sashimi. I said ok I guess replace with any sashimi. They gave me a couple extra slices since it was a cheaper sashimi, but the sashimi with was not nearly as good as the sashimi had been the previous two times I came. I had ordered the bento box with beef and upgraded to a salmon roll. I also ordered yellowfin tuna sashimi which they replaced with unknown. The salmon roll was good, but the beef was dry. If I were you I would avoid the beef bento. Girlfriend had the chicken bento and liked it. The pickles and wakame was pretty standard. Sashimi was just OK, which was a disappointment because it was so good the previous times. I really want to like this place, and I did enough to come back 3 times, but I’m guessing that I probably won’t be back for a while considering I was underwhelmed, only had time to scarf down my food, and was VERY late back to work. I hope that I can come back here soon on a weekend and see things have improved, as I was really hoping for this to be my regular lunch spot.

Sushi Market – Menu with Prices – 435 Ionia Ave SW, Grand Rapids

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and was excited because.. sushi. Lunch special menu isn’t huge, but had enough to keep me interested. I got the Sashimi A – 12 pcs assorted & the Spicy Salmon roll. Both came out at the same time (on same board – which was nice) and quickly. First thing I noticed was how thinly sliced the Sashimi was – granted it was $10.. but still. Also, the red snapper was not good – tasted muddy, or like dirty water. I did mentioned this to the staff. The other fish was just okay, didn’t knock my socks off. Maybe I’m just used to the other sushi places.. The roll was fine, nothing fancy. It was $5 – I should have gotten two rolls for $8. All in all, just meh. If I’m looking for sushi, I may stick with my favorites around town. I did notice that their sushi platters seemed to be pretty reasonable and they said they could get them together rather quickly, too.

Sushi Garden Menu with Prices 1680 Crystal Dr, Arlington

A very tiny sushi spot down in the Crystal City Underground. They’re located in between the Lily Bubble Tea spot and a framing store. They only have 4 seats, so I think they’re best for to-go orders or picking up the pre-made sushi packs they have for sale in the little refrigerated kiosk in the front. Fortunately when we went, there was only one other person dining at the counter. There’s the lady (not the friendliest face) who was working the cash register, and the actual sushi chef behind the sushi counter, so we weren’t entirely sure on who to place our order with. We ended up getting: Spicy Noodles with Cali roll, spicy salmon roll, and the bento box. The okay food: the miso soup they give, was nicely hot (almost scalding), and the miso taste was there. However, I was disappointed to see there weren’t any tofu chunks, and not a lot of seaweed. The bento box was good, I wish they gave more rice but they gave a lot of chicken (flavor was good). The edamame didn’t have the sprinkled salt on it that I like either. The salad, was just okay, the dressing wasn’t the greatest. The California rolls were a bit too big..but it had more filling instead of rice. The not so great food were: the spicy noodles and the spicy salmon roll. The spicy noodles are literally the Shin ramen packs you can buy at H Mart, for around $1 /pack. I can’t justify spending $10 for that meal, when they just added some bean sprouts and other toppings (and it wasn’t even spicy). They also forgot to give us the Cali roll that comes with it, until we had to ask for it. The “spicy salmon roll” was a regular salmon roll with Sriracha on top. The fish was fresh and there were large pieces of salmon, however, I wasn’t fan. Overall, I’d go back and get their other sushi dishes, and their bento box but nothing else.

Eastwind Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 18555 N 59th Ave #124, Glendale

Unaccommodating to allergies. I can’t have spicy pepper and almost all of their lunch items are spicy. I asked if I could have the roll just not spicy and the waiter notified me that it would be a $2.00 upcharge even though on their regular menu a spicy salmon roll is $6.25 and a non spicy salmon roll is $6.50. The food is good and presented nicely. I ended up with the Shrimp Tempura roll lunch special one of the few things that wasn’t loaded with siracha and it was decent, like so many places though more cheap shredded fake crab stick than shrimp or avocado. The nigiri were fresh and tasted good. Salmon, red snapper, tuna and a shrimp. The miso was very tasty. The hot green tea was a nice lite green tea that I enjoyed and cost $2.75. It’s a shame that this restaurant like several others thinks there somehow saving money by upcharging for a very simple change. The real reason why spicy tuna or spicy salmon etc is used so much is that it’s the junk parts of the cheaper fish. Sad really… I would have like to give this place a 4 or better but their greed prevents it.

Wasabi Factory – Menu with Prices – 7415 Hardeson Rd #A, Everett

I used to frequent Wasabi factory when I was living at home a few years ago. Now I wanted to go back and try it again as it’s been a while. I remembered liking their Lion King and Volcano roll and I was craving sushi that was flame seared. I went to the place on a Friday night. It wasn’t full or packed, probably a few people at the bar and another party of 2. Their menu changed a little bit but I was craving a volcano roll and a bento box. I think they are known for their boxes as they are relatively cheap compared to other Japanese restaurants and comes with a lot of food. They have a deluxe and a regular bento box, depending on how much sushi you want and if you want a side of gyoza. I ordered the regular bento box with spicy tuna roll (comes with 8 rolls) and chicken katsu. They have other options you can order with it such as teriyaki, pork katsu, sushi, tempura; etc. On top of picking two things, you get miso soup, salad, and 4 pieces of California roll. I also got a volcano roll to share, which is a California roll seared with spicy tuna on the top. From what I could remember a few years ago, the roll was similar. I enjoyed eating the sushi as it leaves a little bit of a burnt taste. I recommend this along with Lion King if you want seared salmon, and the katana roll which is a shrimp tempura roll wrapped with tempura. The karagee was also ordered to share – it wasn’t super great as it wasn’t as crispy. Staff was friendly and food overall was great. Bento box was great for its value and I left full and content. Will be returning next time I’m in town.

Satomi Sushi – Menu with Prices – 5026 Mowry Ave, Fremont

We came by here for lunch around 1PM on Labor Day. We were seated immediately as the restaurant still had tons of seating available. We got the miso soup and our waters immediately. The bento boxes looked appetizing and it came with tons of foods, but the pricing was towards $20. Pretty steep so I opted for a roll instead. I think we got the dinner menu instead because when I checked online the bento boxes were much cheaper for lunch. =/. We tried the Andy’s roll and the spicy rainbow roll. We also got the monkey brains as appetizer although it takes longer to cook. We got our rolls within 5 minutes (so fast) and our monkey brains shortly after. The monkey brain is essentially fried mushroom with spicy tuna… I took the first piece and it didn’t have any spicy tuna in it, just fried mushroom. So disappointed. The Andy’s roll was covered in crunchy pieces. The rainbow roll just had different types of fish/shrimp on top a spicy tuna roll. The slices of the fish were super thin. Both rolls tasted okay, nothing outstanding. Service was not the best, the guy who greeted us and sat us barely smiled and seemed annoyed when we asked for another seating. It was labor day so all is forgiven. We remember the original Satomi tasting much better.

SUSHI HOUSE Menu with Prices 10955 Jones Bridge Rd Suite 112, Alpharetta

Sushi House is a long-time mainstay of Jones Bridge Road. It’s been there for many years. I used to go there in high school with my friend whenever the restaurant she worked at (Hachi Hachi Hibachi, closed now for over 10 years) down the street was closed. As such I’ve been able to see the progression of the restaurant such as the expansion. I recently came for dinner with my mom and dad. The expansion is pretty nice, there are some “booth” type seating areas, regular tables, and bar seating. The reason I put “booth” in quotations is that it’s not actually a booth, it’s a regular table and regular detached seats with a sort of enclosure around the area. Either way, it is nice semi-private seating. There was one other table seated at 4:45 PM on a Sunday, and while we were eating 2 more customers came in. The sushi here has always been nice and fresh and tasty. However what I definitely remember from before and after the renovation is the prices. This used to be a cheaper option for good quality sushi. The sushi prices have gone way up. I’m not talking a dollar or two per roll, I mean that there are legit several rolls on the menu that are $16 each. EACH! In light of that, my family decided to order strictly from the “classic sushi” menu which is more or less plain rolls with a few that are a little fancy. I also ordered a miso soup which was very good. My sushi order was 1 Alaska roll (salmon and avocado), 1 spicy tuna roll, and salmon nigiri. The salmon is exquisite, very fresh and buttery tasting. The spicy tuna roll was also very tasty but I would have liked a little less mayo in the roll. My mom got an Alaska roll and salmon sashimi and one more roll that I can’t quite place, and my father got a salmon skin roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, and a shrimp roll. They also split an order of edamame with each other. We all enjoyed our food, but for 3 of us our total was $85 before tip. This is the same price we would have paid for an AYCE place a few miles down the road. Overall, the food and service were good, but man that price!

Oak Barrel Tavern – Menu with Prices – 825 Savannah Hwy, Charleston

Do you like Sushi? If you answered yes, go to Oak Barrel Tavern!! However, be forewarned, they only serve sushi Tuesday – Friday from 6:00 – 10:00. We found this out one Saturday evening when we dropped in (they don’t take reservations). We decided to stay for a beer, which turned out to be a couple. They have nice selection of local brews that changes regularly. Our bartender was good at explaining each of them and offering suggestions as well as tastes of whatever we wanted to try. He also explained the sushi situation along with why we had to come back to try it. As if the reviews and pictures weren’t enough; they were THE main reason we went to begin with, but he just validated that we’d be back. However, I have to say there were at least two other parties that came in while we were enjoying our beers only to turn right around when they discovered there was no sushi on Saturday. Fast forward a few weeks and with proper planning we showed up on a Friday night around 7:00. The little place was full but we managed to score two seats at the bar only moments after arriving. They have a good selection of sushi rolls, sashimi, etc. at very reasonable prices! We ordered three rolls and some sashimi. The bartender that night helped us decide what to order. The first roll was a surf and turf roll…. I have to admit, without the help of our bartender, I probably wouldn’t have ordered this one entirely based on the name…. after all, it doesn’t sound like sushi. However, it was outstanding! It had shrimp, avocado, and asparagus with beef tataki and wasabi aioli on top. 4.5 stars!! Roll # 2 was the Fantasy Roll; Salmon, avocado, and cucumber topped with spicy tuna tartar and wasabi tobikko. Excellent, 4.5 stars. Roll # 3 was the Summer of Salmon Roll; Spicy Kani salad, avocado (hummm…. I see a trend here,,, that’s okay, I love avocado) rolled in a soy paper and topped with Salmon, lemon zest and scallions. Excellent, 4.5 stars. Last, we had some tuna and some salmon sashimi to go along with it. All the fish was very fresh, the rice on the rolls was cooked just right, and the combinations were excellent! The restaurant itself is not much to look at, it’s pretty much a little whole in the wall but you don’t go there for the atmosphere, you go for the food and the beer! I’ll be back!!!

J:unique kitchen – Menu with Prices – 381 Cooper St, Ottawa

Visited Ottawa this past weekend and my friend kept raving about this place, and she doesn’t even like sushi! Our group of 10 was seated outside – perfect weather and gave us so much space. I heard it was very small inside the actual restaurant, but it was pretty small outside too. We were a group of 10 and only another table of 2 was available outside. For food, we ordered the gyoza, takoyaki, spicy salmon roll, red dragon roll, j:unique roll, sockeye salmon pressed sushi and the chef’s special sashimi platter. The presentation of each dish was very simple and neat, the red dragon roll and sashimi platter had the best aesthetics though! But more importantly, everything was delicious! There was not one dish that we did not like. All the sushi dishes tasted fresh and sooo tender that it melted in your mouth. Our favourite is definitely the sashimi platter – every piece was thick and super fresh. Even the shrimp sashimi was the biggest I’ve ever had compared to all sushi restaurants I’ve tried in my whole life. This was really worth your money! Definitely recommend this item. Service was also great! Our waitress was very sweet and always made sure we had everything we needed at every moment (but not overbearing YOU KNOW?). There was a button for us to press for service too if we ever needed anything and she wasn’t outside. Very small detail but made such a big difference to our experience! Food also came out at a reasonable time. No complaints what so ever about J:Unique! Glad this was the first stop for food during our trip in Ottawa – already excited to come back again!!

Sekai Sushi – Menu with Prices – 1017 S Gilbert Rd #109, Mesa

One of my favorite Thai spots. I come here 2 times a month. The happy hour has a LOT of great items to try, including a couple premium rolls and sashimi. I love their salmon sashimi! In fact I was not interesting in raw fish at all until I brought my friend her one day an he convinced me to try it. I was sold on the salmon. It took me a few more months to work up the courage to try it again, but I loved it! Josh the owner an his workers and very nice and friendly. They are a great group of people. Give this place a try! Everyone I have taken here loves and raves about it. The salmon dynamite (mild spicyness) , scallop dynamite, Vegas, shrimp tempura and Super Tiger rolls are all great! The Baked Salmon roll is really nice. I did not like the Philly roll. The only complaint I have is that lately the the Vegas roll comes out room temp, even slightly cold. A few time I had it and the tempura coating was soft and squishy, not crunchy at all… Like it was premade and refrigerated. It wasn’t like this in 2018 so I don’t know what happened. It only tastes good when its made-to-order, hot and freshly fried. I hope they go back to making them fresh. The complimentary miso soup is hit or miss. Sometimes is delicious and rich, with the flavor of green onion coming through nicely. Other times its watery and bland. I subtracted 1 star for the change in quality of the Vegas rolls, inconsistent miso soup and constantly changing wait staff. Maybe it’s hard to keep people in Mesa, but I’ve seen at least 6 different people in and out as servers over the past 1 year. It would be nice to get to know the staff and keep seeing them, to get that small community feel. Otherwise it’s an all around great sushi restaurant that is worth eating at.

Sakana Sushi – Menu with Prices – 983 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

This is the old Simon’s coffee shop, turned Anthony’s, now Sakana! We had a party of 4 adults and 1 baby, so we needed to wait around 1245 pm on a snowy day. The staff was nice enough to let us know the other 2 tables of 4 were closing their checks; and fortunately we only waited 7-10 minutes. There was metered parking nearby and I used the Boston app on my phone to pay! Easy. We were seated and all four of us ordered the sashimi lunch. We also ordered the black forest roll—-so yummy! Tuna, asparagus, yellow tail and truffle! And the yellow tail scallion roll also hit the spot! The sashimi lunch was clean and was presented quite beautifully. It was on a grill rack over a piece of ice along w shiso leaves as garnish. The cuts were not large but the fish quality was very good. 8 pieces of sashimi and a bowl of sushi rice w tobiko sprinkled on top. The lunch special came w miso soup and a small salad. I requested the waiter for more ginger and hot waters and he very pleasantly obliged. Got an order of Cali rolls Togo but I’ll be back soon to get more of their specialty rolls and cooked foods!

Sushi Sasabune – Menu with Prices – 101 N Brand Blvd #220, Glendale

Excellent melt in your mouth sushi! Reminds me of Sugar Fish. My coworker was saying how this was one of his favorite sushi places, but was a bit fancy. The lunch specials are pretty good though – although he said the prices went up. There’s two lunch specials, one that’s $23 and one that’s $28. We got the $28 which include sashimi over rice, and we all got the tuna because my coworker said it was particularly good here. It came with miso soup, seaweed salad and cucumbers, three sushi rolls – salmon, tuna and albacore, the sashimi on rice – could get salmon, tuna or albacore and the crab handroll. All were REALLY delicious and like I said, melts in your mouth. The rice in the sashimi bowl was really fresh as well. Service was good and the food came out quickly.

Oshima Sushi – Menu with Prices – 11108 Evergreen Way, Everett

The prices are very reasonable and the portions of delicious food are generous here. This is authentic Japanese fare, including rice, dumplings, sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, and tempura, among others. I know a bit about the authenticity from having visited Japan during my working career. After starting with a Kirin beer (my favorite) and others having everything from Coke and Sprite to hot Saki and wine, most at the table ordered Bento box lunch, which featured a bowl of miso soup, your choice of entree (beef, salmon, sesame chicken etc.) along with a big scoop of rice, small house salad and dressing, two dumplings (pot stickers), and a 4 piece sushi or sashimi order of your choice. This runs anywhere from $9.25-$9.95 which is a real bargain. You can also get Katsu plates ($10.25, which my wife ordered in pork) and with the same choice of sides. Hers was like what we Germans would call ‘ Schnitzel’ and was a massive portion sliced into strips with a thick plum dipping sauce. There is also a selection of Ramen combination lunches and too many more options to include here. All the food was prepared properly, served at the right temperature, and tasted wonderful. We left feeling pleased with our choices, sated, and with money left in our wallets.
