Ooga Booga Waffles is the Waffle Food Truck at the Food Court at 5000 Burnet. The 5000 Burnet Food Court is a collection of some of the finest food trucks in the city. The Thai truck is the only truck that is not up to 5000 standards. Ooga Booga is a very worthy edition to this elite group. * * * These are NOT your grandmother’s waffles. They are also not your typical Yuppie cliche waffles. Looking for waffles with maple syrup? Go to IHOP. Looking for fried chicken and waffles? Go to the 24 Cafe. Looking for Belgian waffles? Go to Belgium. Every recipe at this food truck comes from the insane imagination of the head cook. * * * Rule 1 of Ooga Booga: All waffles are sandwiches. Make TWO superthick waffles at the same time. When they are just done and piping hot put a filling on top of one waffle and cover with the other waffle. The filling will cook ever so slightly from the heat of the double waffle blanket. Cut in quarters and serve immediately. Rule 2 of Ooga Booga: Plan on eating these babies right here within seven yards of the actual food truck. These waffles are at their most magnificent four seconds after the top waffle is put on the bottom waffle. They will be excellent for the next five minutes and okay for ten minutes after that. If you put them in a cardboard box and have Uber bring them home, they will be completely dead on arrival. You want to be biting into these babies during that world changing fifth second. That fifth second will be a peak experience. Rule 3 of Ooga Booga: These waffles are crammed to the gills with super yummy sweet or savory filling. Ooga Booga piles as much filling between the waffles as is possible given the law of physics. That means if you just bite into your waffle without thinking about what you are doing – the filling will squirt out in all directions. You will lose four bites of pure paradise. So approach your waffle tactically. There is one direction you can bite in where the filling will stay put. You can also eat surplus filling off the edges of the waffle so the rest of the filling stays where it need to be. Oriental Health Philosophies teach Conscious Eating as a strategy for mind-body harmonization. Here Conscious Eating is meant to save your pants from having to go to the dry cleaners. Rule 4 of Ooga Booga: You will think your filling is fantastic. So will every housefly in the Rosedale neighborhood. Be prepared to defend your waffle. * * * * * I had the Cinnamon Swirl waffle. This is a double waffle filled with cream cheese frosting. The cinnamon flavor was non-existent. I didn’t care. The hot waffle/melted cream cheese combination sent me to the moon and back. If you have had dessert in an Italian restaurant, you have probably had a cannoli. Cannolis used to be wonderful – but making cannolis is now a lost art. That was a ricotta cheese filling in a sweet crunchy pastry tube. Nowadays, they are baked last week and sit aging in the refrigerator waiting to be plopped on your plate and dumped on your table. Imagine twice as much filling, and eight times as much pastry. Now make the pastry hot and moist and sensuous. Make the filling hot and moist and creamy. I guarantee you will go to a hot and moist and sensuous place. * * * Rule 5 of Ooga Booga: Each one of these creations has 6,486 calories. You could eat the contents of the entire display case of Tiny Pies across the street, and still not match what one Ooga Booga waffle can do for you. But if you are going to go for 6,486 calories, this is clearly the way to do it. Time to make a commitment to personal growth.

Ball Ball Waffle – Menu with Prices – 2999 Payne Ave Suite 126, Cleveland

So having heard about Ball Ball I had to give them a try. Located in the middle of the Asiatown Plaza in a small storefront is Ball Ball Waffle. They have taken the space and added some nice touches, including the white tile walls in the kitchen area, the rough hewn wood counter and the “Ball” letters on the wall. The menu has a number of sweet waffles, a couple of savory waffles and drinks. Having stopped by twice I have tried both a sweet and a savory waffle. The waffles are kind of the reverse of what we are used to, instead of a thick waffle with indents, Ball Ball makes waffles that are thicker balls connected by thinner batter. My first time I got one of the traditional waffles topped with condensed milk and peanut butter to which I added a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The waffle is made into a sort of cone and served in a cup with the ice cream in the middle. Although a bit difficult to eat with the ice cream, it tasted really good, the waffle is mildly sweet with a firm outside and soft inside. The waffle serves as a good canvas on which they can paint the other flavors to make a small masterpiece. The cheese waffle was interesting, as the waffle batter is still a bit sweet and contrasts nicely with the cheese that has been caramelized by the waffle iron. Served flat, this is easier to eat as you can just pull off individual balls. Ball Ball is well worth a visit if you are looking for a snack, light meal or something sweet. The waffles are a bit softer then the traditional American style waffle. Be aware that the hours are limited with the shop open from 11am – 4pm most days. Would love if they were open later in the day on the weekend so you could grab some waffles after dinner.

Sylvia’s Waffles – Menu with Prices – 2152 Drew St, Clearwater

What a disappointment. I haven’t eaten a liege waffle since my last trip to Belgium so I was super excited to try one here. Sadly, the waffle was a disgraceful imitation of the real thing. The dough must have been overworked because the waffle did not capture the delicate balance of density and lightness like a real liege waffle. If this was the only problem with the waffle I would have eaten a few bites, thrown it away, and never thought about it again. What annoyed me was that they served me a waffle covered in burnt waffle residue. While the waffle has sugar pearls in the batter (sugar burns) that is no excuse as I’ve never encountered a Liege waffle with any burnt areas in the 100s of waffles I’ve had in Belgium. Either their waffle iron was too hot or they didn’t grease it enough, I’m not sure. What I do know is that the fact they chose to serve it was an insult to Belgium as well my tastebuds. I didn’t bother attempting to get my money back or get a new waffle because: 1. The waffle price didn’t break the bank. 2. Even if they did serve me a non-burnt waffle the waffle it self was not worth eating anyway. Doing anything but walking away would have been an exercise in frustration. I just hope their other guests don’t know what a real liege waffle tastes like so they won’t be as bummed as I was.

Double Happy – Menu with Prices – 1280 Brown Rd, Columbus

I love double happy!! It is iur neighborhood ice cream store. The gentleman that is always working there is always so chipper and has a big smile on his face. I love going there because of the great service that comes with a genuine caring. Not to me tion that their ice cream is delicious and so are their signature, non traditional waffles. For example, they have mac and cheese waffles and mashed potatoe waffles. LOVE this place!!

Waffle Rush Menu with Prices 3048 Mountain View Dr Ste 101, Anchorage

I was in the east side of town working at a field office for the day when I wanted to find a place a little off the beaten path for lunch aside from your standard sandwich, pizza, or burger spot. Waffle Rush was just what was needed. This small locally-owned restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza on Debarr Rd. next to Hacienda’s Mexican Restaurant between Boniface and Muldoon. The dining area is modest yet cozy. I was given a friendly greeting by the owner behind the counter. I took a couple of minutes to peruse the menu until one of their lunch specials displayed off to the side of the wall caught my eye. Mama Deb’s Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles. Perfect! That is something that I don’t have every day. I placed my order and took a seat at one of the tables by the windows. There were a couple of diners trying one of the specialty Rolled-up Waffles with eggs, sausage, and cheese, another item I have to try on the next visit. My order only took a few minutes to arrive. The large chicken tenders were amazing, perfectly breaded and lightly fried with spicy seasoning for a kick. Likewise, the waffle was golden brown and fluffy with a pat of butter on top. Two cups came with the plate on the side: honey mustard for the chicken and maple syrup for the waffle. The meal was filling enough that I didn’t have to eat dinner until later on in the evening. The menu boasts an eclectic variety of specialty waffles, sandwiches, breakfast plates, smoothies, hot chocolate, and dirty soda (Coke drinks with add-on flavors like strawberry, grape, coconut, lime, cherry, vanilla, and mango among others). Some of the noticeable selections on the menu include the PB&J Rush (peanut butter, orange-raspberry jam, and cream cheese between two waffles), the French Onion Roast Beef Sandwich (caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, roasted garlic parmesan aioli served with au jus sauce…French onion soup in a sandwich!), the Hair Brain Sandwich (peppered turkey pastrami, provolone, fried egg, deep fried onion straws, and horseradish cream sauce on a Kaiser bun…..interesting…another one to try in the future), Banana Soul Waffle(bananas, banana pudding, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle), and the Harvest Apple Pie Waffle (apple pie filling on a cinnamon sugar covered waffle topped with whipped cream…..sounds like a winner!). Very laidback atmosphere and a good alternative aside from your standard fast food or takeout places.

London Calling Pasty Company – Menu with Prices – 836 N Glenstone Ave, Springfield

Soooooo let me tell you about this hidden gem! I was on a business trip and my colleague and I stopped by here because it had so many good reviews. We met the owner and another really nice guy who worked there. It’s a cool English double decker food truck that offers AMAZING food. We had a banana pie and we literally ate the whole pie lol it was so rich in flavor but very balanced and delicious. I had the steak and cheese pastry and my colleague had an Indian pastry. Everything was spot on and so delicious. I know these men will prosper if they come to Kansas City or another big city!!

My Waffle Crush – Menu with Prices – 5735 E McKellips Rd #107, Mesa

I’ve got a crush on Waffle Crush!! First off, this body was built by Nutella! Second, a waffle topped with Nutella, bananas and whipped cream and a caramel sauce??? I’m down any day! I have to thank my wife for Turning me on to waffle crush a few years ago. She faithfully follows them on Instagram and lets me know where they are. I guess you could say we stock them just for their waffles. Crispy waffles topped with anything you desire that’s on their menu, what else could you ask for? The texture of the food complements each other miraculously. Sorry Yelpers, I’m NOT the culinary expert they are, so I can’t tell you exactly what makes them so good. All I can say is if you see them at a farmers market or follow them on Instagram, stop and Get yourself some. Its heaven on your plate.

Waffle Stop – Menu with Prices – 2710 N Proctor St, Tacoma

My parents recently moved nearby Waffle Stop and we had a super good breakfast here! As their name suggests, their speciality is in their waffles. I ordered the Wake N Waffle selection with the Pearl Sugar Waffle and the chicken apple sausage. The Place: Bright and lively aesthetic that perfectly fits that good-morning/bright and early happy attitude that you need to get started with your day. The Food: Wake N Waffle – came with two eggs (any style), hash browns, and a protein with your choice of waffle. The Pearl Sugar Waffle is basically the essence of a funnel cake in the form of a waffle. Not as fluffy as a classic Belgian waffle, but fluffy enough with a distinctive crispy and not too sweet flavor that will definitely remind you of a funnel cake. Their chicken apple sausage is house-made and extremely well seasoned. I admit the combo of a sweet waffle with all the savory breakfast food was a bit overwhelming, but the quality was super good! The portion size was perfect and filling for starting your day off right ? Definitely looking forward to more breakfasts here in the future!

UnbeWingable – Menu with Prices – 1706202002001, Lincoln

All the way legit! I’m mad at myself for waiting so late to try this spot out. I called my order in: chicken and waffles, crunch wings, fried okra and jerk chicken. Everything was delicious and prepared fresh to order. As a matter of fact, they didn’t cook my waffle until I showed up for my order which I appreciate. Everything was still hot when I got back to my room to devour it. The Cheeto crunch was a interesting combination. Very neutral flavored, great for dipping! The chicken and waffles were on point. Five wings atop a soft hot waffle. Although I prefer crispy edge waffles, this was a great combo with the right amount of syrup. Very tasty. Lastly the jerk chicken. I’m guessing this was authentic jerk seasoning cause let me tell you, it was HOT!!!! Order with caution, not for the faint of heart. The cashier was friendly and helpful in the phone ordering as well as when I picked my meal up. I see myself eating a lot of wings in the near future.

Loc’s Chicken & Waffles – Menu with Prices – 7360 Skidaway Rd, Savannah

Been here 13 years in savannah ga and finally having chicken and waffles. Well I’m searching for the best chicken and waffles and I didn’t find it here. I have to say that the waffle was good and the chicken was good, that’s all it was. It’s described as waffle with strawberry butter. I didn’t get the butter unless you ask for it. I also heard the customer behind me asking for the strawberry butter as well. The chicken comes on a separate dish which doesn’t unify the chicken and waffles. That should’ve come with the sweet spicy syrup, didn’t get that either. While the chicken was super crispy and fresh it just wasn’t a cohesive dish. I’ll eat something else if I ever go back. Next try North Carolina…

Maple Street Biscuit Company- Frisco – Menu with Prices – 3288 Main St Suite 111, Frisco

Wow! This place blew me away. I consider myself a breakfast specialty foodie and this is the best breakfast I remember. The ingredient quality, recipes and atmosphere were all fantastic. I had the Five & Dime and the waffle (they call their waffle BAM). Granted this was two meals but I wanted to try both. They were both fantastic! The Five & Dime was a biscuit sandwich with fried chicken tenders, bacon, cheese, an egg and homemade sausage gravy. Savory, complex and perfectly executed. I also had the waffle, which I was skeptical because I usually don’t like “things” in my waffle — in this case bacon and Asiago cheese. But they were small in size so as to not change the texture and the flavors blended fantastically. Most waffles are just sweet with minimal flavor and you’re lucky if they cook it right. Not this one. The malt, real maple syrup, bacon and slight hint of Asiago made this one truly the best I have ever had. Two “must-try’s”. I can’t wait to come back.

Sweet Belgium – King Street – Menu with Prices – 424 King St, Charleston

Sweet Belgium is a sweet treat. My boyfriend and I were spending the day downtown and he wanted to pop in. The shop is small and narrow with waffle pictures on the walls. There’s bar seating on either side. The associate was nice and friendly. She explained the concept. The pre-made waffles are 3 inches. They had about a dozen or so flavors. If you want to customize your waffle, you can opt for the 6 inch one and choose from a variety of toppings. We decided to get two pre-made waffles–one maple bacon and one with strawberry glaze. I preferred the maple bacon. While they were the perfect size, next time, I think I will get the larger one so I can customize it.

Mac N’ Cheese Rebel – Menu with Prices – 5031 York Blvd, Los Angeles

This is a very interesting food truck. I genuinely enjoyed my Mac and cheese because when I usually eat Mac and cheese that’s vegan it’s noticeable. However, this truck knows how to mask the “cheese” to taste like real cheese. I got the collard greens toping and the fake meat I believe. I would definitely get the collard greens again. The only reason why I’m not giving it five stars was because of my weird experience. I stood outside the truck eating my Mac and cheese, and then I was half-way through my bowl when the man in the truck making my bowl told me that he gave me the wrong order and it wasn’t vegan. I was very shocked and he didn’t really say anything after that. Then, he said wait, let me see your bowl. He looked at it again and was like, “oh yeah, never mind, that is the vegan one.” My friends and I laughed off that weird encounter at the food truck. But it was kind of weird. Overall, I would probably pay another 13 dollars for Mac and cheese again because it’s good. Hopefully next time he won’t scare me again.
