Oh how I love a good taco truck. And Carnitas Michoacan is a great one. You won’t find any rice or beans here…This is strictly meat country! They’re only open on Saturdays & Sundays from about 7am until they run out of food (I was told this happens around 1pm, depending). But during these few hours, they crank out some of the most authentic tacos in town. The carnitas are solid, but the birria de chivo tacos are so deliciously tender and juicy, it is in a class of its own. In case you don’t know what birria de chivo is, it’s slow-simmered goat in a mild chile & spice broth. They’ll also give you a free hot cup of consommé if you ask (it’s a little like menudo broth but a lot more gamy). It’s pretty comforting on a rainy morning, sitting outside under their overhead. My favorite thing to put on these tacos is their mixed slices of red onion and habaneros that’s been lightly macerated with citrus. So simple, but pairs so well with their meat. According to the options listed on their truck, they also serve macisa, cuero, buche, y patas. However, I don’t know what any of those are, even after briefly trying to look them up (Google needs to step up their international food searches). I’ll just have to ask them next time I’m there. The people who run this place are very nice. It’s worth a try some weekend. It definitely hits the spot after some swap meet shopping down the street.

Tacos EL Patron Menu with Prices 516 N State College Blvd, Anaheim

A GREAT NEW SPOT IN ORANGE COUNTY FOR DELICIOUS RED TACOS! This newcomer has quickly established itself as favorite destination in Anaheim for tacos de birria. Moreover, the birria is prepared with your choice of beef (res) or young goat (chivo). Both are excellent here, very tender and delicious. Birria is a spicy Mexican stew traditionally made with the meat of a young goat but more commonly prepared with beef in Tijuana and here in the U.S. The meat is marinated with adobo spices. Slow-cooked tomatoes, roasted chiles and dried herbs gives the broth its zest and crimson red color. The chivo meat here had none of the gaminess often associated with goat meat, although I found some of the tiny bones in it to be a minor nuisance. The hearty homemade consommé dipped corn tortilla shell and savory consommé really makes the dish special. SIGNATURE DISH/ORDER: Tacos de Birria Enchilados, $9.55 for 3 and consommé is a must-try in either the beef or goat meat. Tacos de birria can be ordered individually but then you do not get the deep red, zesty consommé to sip on and dip your taco into. All the other meat filling choices – including asada (beef steak), pastor (marinated pork), cabeza (beef head), lengua (beef tongue), pollo (chicken), tripas (intestines), buche (pork stomach lining) and chorizo (sausage) – are mouth-wateringly delicious options as well. They are all well seasoned, succulent, good-sized and authentically prepared. Priced from $1.69 to $1.89, which is an exceptional deal for a tasty, hearty taco. They even serve potato tacos, which are a delicious choice for non-meat eaters or who desire a lighter dish. Tortas, burritos, breakfast burritos, quesadillas, chilaquiles, omelettes, nachos, loaded fries, flautas, mulitas and birria plate complete their comprehensive menu. The restaurant’s drippy, consommé-stained tacos de birria is definitely still the one must-try (and, if not, their most captivating) dish. The tortillas are dipped in the dark red broth, tossed onto the grill until it gets crispy, then stuffed with juicy, shredded meat and then splashed with more consommé. Hence the street name “red tacos.” Tacos El Patron makes red tacos as good as any venerable LA location I have tried, sans the melted cheese. Their horchata and variety of delicious, refreshing aqua frescas and michelaguas are made fresh throughout the day. Good salsa rojas and salsa verde. The salsa bar is clean and replenished frequently. My recommended choice for red tacos in Anaheim. Also a strong contender for some of the best birria you can find anywhere in Orange County.

UNOS TACOS Y BIRRIA – Menu with Prices – 2929 N 75th Ave STE #31, Phoenix

Came here twice because they had Birria de Chivo on their menu and on the grand opening weekend, we got there too late so they sold out. Held off on my review because I had to try it before posting. Came back for rd. 2 and found out they took it off the menu… so disappointed. Service and cleanliness of when I went was good, I have no complaints. I’ve tried all their tacos and for the most part everything is under seasoned. Tortillas are really good and flavor full but I can’t say the say about the meats. I didn’t like their al pastor at all, their marinade just doesn’t provide the flavors. Carne asada tacos were the better options, but it’s not where I would go for that as it’s still under par. The Birria taco was pretty good the first time. Had to use some salt but the consommé and the aromas really stuck to the Birria making it juicy deliciousness. Second time around it was over cooked and the meat was dried. Their queso tacos did seem to have a better hit on the taste palette. It’s more unique to their location but it still doesn’t hit the spot for me. Salsas had a unique taste but once again, under seasoned. Tacos are loaded to the max so they do match their price point.

birrieria jaramillo – Menu with Prices – L208999001A0110, El Paso

I grew up having birria on special events. Birria is a spicy stewish soup made of shredded lamb that has been simmered for hours. With that said, I know a good birria. This place has some that did not disappoint. The sauce to add to the broth is really spicy which is a must. I had mine to go so the cilantro and onion were added in the birria. In retrospect I should have asked for it on the side because they serve it really hot and it cooked the onion and cilanteo. They serve it so hot that I still had to blow on it to cool it after the 25 minute drive home. I would love to try their tacos. The service was a bit of a wait but nothing I minded too much. It’s pretty affordable. I paid less than $10 for a large container. It was pretty filling. Thanks for bringing my good memories of birria back.

El Güero Birria de Chivo – Menu with Prices – 3611 S 16th St, Phoenix

Hands down I have not encountered a spot with good Birria de Chivo until I ate here. It’s a hole in the wall place, not fancy, but clean. As soon as you walk in you can smell the Birria. That’s the only thing in there menu and I think menudo, but this is strictly a Birreria. If your looking for a place with a variety of foods this ain’t for you. If your looking for great authentic Mexican Birria de chivo you are in the right place. The place is packed and they are only open until 2pm. Everything is fresh made from the handmade tortillas to the salsa, consomé and aguas frescas. The staff is friendly. This is real Mexican cooking no doubt. You can get your Birria steamed or Tatemada (they fry it up a bit right out of the steamer) I recommend the Tatemada. It has great flavor! I didn’t care too much for the live entertainment, but hey I could live with it for a bit. Definitely a go to hole in the wall joint worth trying. They won’t disappoint!!!

Taqueria El Poblano – Menu with Prices – 652 Broadway, Chula Vista

Yahoo! Sí, the street tacos here are very good! Muy Bueno y Ricos. For the time being, this Taqueria Food Truck is only opened during evening hours. 6 pm till 2 am daily respectfully. I arrived opening on a Friday evening and ordered two al pastor & two beef birria double wrapped street tacos at $2.20 a piece. The beef birria tacos were great, but one has to be careful because the salsa they put on the meat packed some heat. The beef birria was very tasty and even had a very nice aromatic appeal. I loved that it was juicy and tender, and they double wrapped the tacos. The al pastor tacos were delicious. The pork meat was well marinated and they cooked it very well. I liked that it was a mix of crispy pieces and tender pieces of pork. This taco came with chopped cilantro, white onions, and creamy guacamole that’s traditional with these particular street tacos in Mexico. Great stuff indeed. There’s no seafood at this truck, just carne asada, chicken, beef birria, and pork, not that there’s anything wrong with that. There’s a tent with table available. They have salsa available at the tables, and radishes, limes, and cucumbers at the truck. Service was friendly and Claudia was super helpful. I like that they bring the food to you at the tables.

Taqueria La Fondita – Menu with Prices – 3739 Tacoma Ave S, Tacoma

I LOVE ME SOME TACOS Once again my Fellow Yelpers you’ve rated this place 4 plus stars and I just had to come and check this place out for myself. Had to feed my inner fat gurl I was craving Tacos!!! This place is located at the corner of 38th Street & Tacoma Avenue it’s a Taco Truck and as long as your not blocking anyone you can park anywhere. As I started to walk up to the truck you can smell the yummy goodness of meat in the air and whats cool is there are food pictures clearly marked with the price of the numbered item that you choose and the prices are very reasonable. I am greeted by Mari who takes my order and Seco in the back of the truck where the magic happens in preparing my order as I am talking to Mari she tells me that there from. JALISCO, MEXICO I had Asada aka grilled beef steak, Carnitas aka fried pork, Pollo Asado aka grilled chicken, Birria aka shredded beef cooked in a mild Chile sauce, Adobada aka pork that is marinated and grilled, the tacos come with your choice of meat, chile, cilantro, onion. I tried all the meats I just mentioned and my favorites are Birria, Carnitas, and Adobada. These tacos are small but have plenty of meat and & are full of flavor I am in heaven the corn tortilla is soft like a bed for my meat, and fixings than I add a little lemon that you can get upon request with grilled onions & serrano chilies, yum. my hubby got the burrito macho which had choice of meat, rice, beans, Jack cheese, queso cotija, tomatoes, cilantro, and onions he loved it and I had a bite it was good too but I more of a Taco kind of girl. I’m loving this place and most definitely I will be coming back for more. Gracias Mari y Seco Ustedes si Tiene una buena mano para sazonar la comida.

Carnitas A El Estilo Michoacan – Menu with Prices – 818 S Mountain Ave, Ontario

I brought my mom to eat tacos after seeing so many good reviews. I must have gone on a bad day or something because the carnitas were horrible. The carnitas were dry, cold and flavorless. The ladies working here have a bad attitude and talk trash about you in Spanish thinking you’re white and can’t understand them. I didn’t even bother to tell them I understood them. The tacos were portioned well but disappointing. The beans and rice weren’t good. I will say their birria was pretty good. Other than that, nothing special. I’d rather go to the Carnitas restaurant in Chino.

Tacos el Juanito – Menu with Prices – 1866 S Euclid Ave, Ontario

Stopped by this shop because it had a lot of positive reviews…I was craving birria, but I remembered this shop had good reviews and I figured why not, I’ll get birria next time…Any how I’d love to give this place more stars but it comes down to the whole experience…The staff is great, very friendly and work hard to get that food out…The menu is very simple, and easy to order from. We actually got one of everything. The prices are reasonable, hence why we got one of everything…They have this great family Meal Deal one 1 meat burrito, 6 tacos any meat, 1 meat quesadilla, & 2 large drinks for $20…we added 1 meat nachos which show a nacho cheese sauce but actually use grated cheese but it’s packed with lots of meat. We also got an asada torta and a asada mulitas. We got it all!!!! Now the drawbacks…they give you tons of meat, which is not a drawback, but the asada is not seasoned…very bland…no fat, but very bland, needs citrus and salt and be cooked a lil less, some piece were very dry…the Mulitas was very tasty and enjoyable. We ordered the the carnitas burrito and quesadilla, and it’s anything but dry…it’s got a lot of flavor, but it also has a ton of oil…oil poured out the plate of the quesadilla, and the burrito foil was saturated all the way around the inside and outside of the burrito wrapper. The torta was good as it had the spicy guacamole and mayonnaise and beans kept the meat wet and masked the lack of seasonings. Next I gotta complain about the chilé…it tastes like cheap La Cadena jar or canned salsa…the Rojo was very vinegar and hot, no salt or citrus or garlic or spice…the Verde was the better of the two and it was very simple too…and I love chilé and sadly theirs fell flat… I also asked for the grilled cebolla & Jalapenos, and they two were oily and no salt what so every…it tastes oily…the piña was good, just your standard fountain Pineapple water…sadly I can’t recommend this shop, as there are many other contenders around the area that are far better-

Tacos El Karni Menu with Prices 2760 S Union Ave, Bakersfield

This little hidden gem is the spot for tacos de birria. It’s located on union ave where the old el efectivo use to be. The parking is limited to about 8 cars tops so parking could be a hassle if it was the busy time of day. Luckily for us we came around 6:30pm on a Thursday so it wasn’t too bad. You walk up to the window and place the order. The menu is vast and they have a lot of options. Even on weekends they actually sell ribs and BBQ chicken. The sitting area is a make shift carport looking area. It’s neither indoor or outdoor. The heat wasn’t too bad in there but I’m sure in the mid of summer it would not be a good experience. We decided to go with the tacos dorados de birria(de res). I also opted to get a few tacos of the meats they had. One was asada, pastor, tripas and lengua. The birria tacos were the star here. They were greasy and crunchy. Filled with juicy tender meat and cheese. If you haven’t had a birria taco this is the place to come. The regular tacos were nothing special. They come out plain and you add your toppings. But the meats were dry and the tortillas were unimpressive. If you want a birria experience this is the place the other tacos I’d stay away from there is other places for that.

Birria?s El Padrino – Menu with Prices – 3753 Mission Ave Suite 121A, Oceanside

Birrias El Padrino is a birrieria that specializes in both birria de chivo (made with goat, popular in the Mexican state of Jalisco) and beef de res (made with beef, popular in Tijuana), among other varied fare. Surprisingly, the eclectic menu also contains San Diego-style Mexican specialties such as “Carne Asada French Fries” smothered in sour cream and cheese, as well as “Rolled Tacos” and “California Burritos” — all of which seem out of place at a restaurant that allowed me a peak into their kitchen while their chef was stuffing a suckling pig for roasting. Nonetheless, I won’t fault the restaurant for doing what they feel is necessary to stay in business in North County, a ritzy region sandwiched between San Diego and Orange County that notoriously underappreciates legit Mexican fare, or edible food in general. I’m sure Birras El Padrino’s burritos are pretty good, but I can’t think of a reason in the world to order one when there are so many more interesting things to eat here. I admire a place that does things the hard way, the right way — and this is evident by the quality of the tortilla de hecho a mano (handmade) they serve their regular tacos with. I had both a “Goat Birria Taco” and “Beef Birria Taco” with this house-made tortilla and was impressed by the heft and distinctive taste of the tortilla and the flavor and silkiness of the meats. According to the restaurant, they add birria consommé back into the birria once it is scooped onto the tortillas, a pro move to ensure the meats are at their juiciest when they’re served to you. I much preferred their goat briria over their beef birria. It possesses more a more interesting and intense taste, even as the seasoning and piquancy (of which there is much) is identical between both braises. The goat is mild, but still tastes distinctly like goat. However, if you come here, you must order the “Quesataco de Chivo,” my favorite goat birria taco in SoCal south of Los Angeles. They utilize two corn tortillas, the aforementioned house-made tortilla grilled AND a bagged tortilla dipped in consommé, with both tortillas griddled back-to-back except for the mild white cheese in the middle that melts, forming a crunchy and gooey taco shell that itself evokes a quesadilla de maiz. As the taco equivalent of a stuffed-crust pizza, this is perhaps the ultimate cheesy, spicy, greasy hang-over cure. Just writing about this taco makes me want to drink tonight until I’m cross-eyed so I have an excuse to drive an hour to Oceanside tomorrow morning to make myself right. The “Consommé de Chivo” on its own was also pretty good with its heavy collagen content making it more of a sophisticated full-bodied, fully-realized rendered goat stock than what I’ve come to expect from birria consommé. This makes a great dip for the “Quesataco de Chivo,” imparting even more flavor to a taco that has its flavor knob already turned up to 11. Birrias El Padrino is a meticulously clean restaurant tended to by pleasant people who were proud of the food they are serving, in addition to being both curious and supportive of my current #SummerOfTastyTacos journey. (Thanks to Yelp friend Aiko N. for her excellent recommendation to me of this mom ‘n pop restaurant that is on no one else’s radar. Hopefully that changes!) Food/Décor/Service: 4.3/3.7/NA #SummerOfTastyTacos – Taco Tracker: https://bit.ly/2IHTmfY Taco Score: Birria de Chivo Quesataco (94/100), Birria de Chivo Taco (91/100), Birria de Res Taco (80/100) What to Order: Birria de Chivo Quesataco

Los Chilangos Menu with Prices 14008 NE 8th St, Bellevue

Taqueria Los Chilangos is a solid food truck, serving Mexican favorites. Its truck is located at the Shell gas station at the intersection of 8th and 140th, where they’re open all day. I came here to grab some quick dinner for my boyfriend and me, as I was in the area for a meeting and spotted Taqueria Los Chilangos’ truck. I ordered five tacos, two with carnitas, two with al pastor and one with chupa cabras. For also checking in on Yelp I got free chips and salsa. On a Tuesday around 7pm, there were quite a few people waiting out in the cold for the goods. Of all the tacos, I actually thought the chupa cabras was the best. It’s not something I’d normally choose with street tacos, as it’s a combination of carne asada and chorizo, but I definitely recommend trying it. I’ve never seen this meat option at other taquerias, which is what intrigued me the most. I’m glad it ended up being a favorite. The al pastor tacos were also good, especially with the pineapple on top, which I think all al pastor tacos should have! But the carnitas, which is usually my go-to protein of choice with street tacos, was sadly, disappointing. Meat was very dry; therefore, it was bland. Stick with the chupa cabras and al pastor meats. In addition to tacos, the menu has a lot to offer, including breakfast served all day! (One of these days I’m gonna get a breakfast burrito.) They also have two different salsas that you can choose from, as well as various flavors of Jarritos. There isn’t seating outside of the truck – only a standing table, so not sure if when the weather fares better are when the seats bust out. At least you can park here and eat your grub in your car, which I noticed a few patrons doing. No shame.

Academy Minimarket – Menu with Prices – 515 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem

Tacos, tacos, tacos! Being new to Winston, I’ve been in the hunt for good tacos. I have tried a few places in and around town and off of Waughtown Road, but these are the BEST tacos I have found in Winston. The place is quaint. It’s a mini mart with a taco truck in the parking lot. At first, I wasn’t sure if the truck was open or not, but the friendly lady at the truck assured me it was. Let me be clear – This is not a restaurant and there are not any places to sit. You will get your food in a nicely packed to-go box and bag and have to haul it off somewhere to eat. (Note: I was so excited that I ate my tacos in my car in the parking lot.) I paid for my food inside the store and went out to the truck in the parking lot with my receipt to place my order. An order of 4 tacos runs about $6. I had the carnitas, barbacoa, and asada tacos and they were GREAT! Double tortillas warmed on the grill with fantastic meats, topped with onions and cilantro. My to-go box even had a little salad with cucumber, lettuces, limes and a spicy avocado salsa. I cannot wait to head back here for more TACOS!
