My experience with Indian food is admittedly limited; I’ve only eaten at Indian restaurants in the SF Bay Area. But I know what I like and I really enjoyed everything we ordered from Punjabi Dhaba! The man who took my order was so kind and patient. I had done some menu research the night before my visit so I thought I knew what I wanted. I’d never heard of kadi pakoda before so I wanted to try it. When I ordered it, he asked if I knew what it was. I told him that Google told me it’s fried onions in a creamy sauce ? he then proceeded to diagram it for me and explain the various regional differences on how it’s prepared in India and how he prepares it here. I was sold and even more excited to try it! Tl;dr here’s our order. Service is just as wonderful as the food. Samosa chaat was a journey of flavor and texture and color that only ended when the bowl was empty. Mix paratha with the raita to cool it down is *chef’s kiss* wonderful Chole masala chickpeas are so tender like dreamy little clouds but even prepared mild, this was a little too spicy for my weak tastebuds Chicken tikka masala comes with a generous portion of chicken! And the sauce is amazing. We took this food to go and got fries from another restaurant before eating lunch in a park. Long story short, fries taste amazing in the tikka masala sauce. Kadi pakoda is different from anything I’ve had before. The sauce is a little tangy and I suspect this is because it’s yogurt based and not cream based like the other curries. It’s a refreshing balance to the other flavors. Rice was perfectly cooked and spiced. Roti just as delicious as everyone has said before ?

Kab American bar and Grill – Menu with Prices – 502 Tyvola Rd, Charlotte

Do not go here for Indian food!! It is horrible. The Saag Paneer was soupy and electric green, as though they used food coloring! And not a drop of spinach to be found in it. The chicken tikka masala was meh… Again, the sauce was watery and lacked flavor The curry was just okay. Spices not well developed at ALL. And here’s the dirtiest little trick: they add large chunks of raw green peppers and onions to the dish, obviously to take up space on the plate so that they don’t have to put as much chicken on it!! Come on. I’ve never, in 20 years of eating Indian food, seen peppers and ilonions in Chicken Tikka Masala! With them being almost totally raw, it’s obvious it is not cooked into the sauce as in, part of the dish’s flavoring!! Seriously underwhelming. Frankly, disappointing. They need a better chef. It’s terrible.

Vinny?s Greek and Indian Grill – Menu with Prices – 110 Southside Square, Huntsville

So the way I do reviews is that I go into every restaurant as it being 5 stars and it can go down but also they can earn their way back up. I was in DT HSV taking pictures one night and saw Vinny’s. I came a few weeks later with my family. We walked into the place and it seemed very high class however it was 6pm and nobody else was in there (besides the staff). The service was obviously quick. The menu was more Indian than Greek (which is fine, just pointing it out). We ordered samosas and spanakopita. The pastry on the spanakopita was undercooked and we had to send it back. The samosas were only minis which was extremely disappointing. They also are most likely frozen ready-made samosas. The “sauces” in the middle of the dishes are definitely not traditional Indian (or Indian for that matter) nor Greek to my knowledge. It was marinara sauce… The spanakopita came back, cooked decently this time. Soon after, the food came. We ordered chicken tikka masala and paneer tikka masala. The “naan” and rice were “free”(food was overpriced). The naan was really some sort of whole wheat flatbread and not actual naan. Our paneer(cheese cube, completely vegetarian) tikka masala was SUPPOSED to be vegetarian but there was a decent amount of chicken in there. The paneer was not very good and was not restaurant style. The tikka masala (sauce) was decent but tasted very typical among Indian households. The food was also way overpriced, nearly $10 for apps and $15 for entree. In summary Frozen samosas Marinara sauce Undercooked spanakopita Naan? Chicken in paneer Average to slightly below average food Overpriced Not coming back

Bombay Wraps – Menu with Prices – 3149 1/2 N Broadway, Chicago

Update: still coming here 4 months later. Food is incredible and always consistent. Y’all gotta try it out! My favorites are the lentil dal soup and the samosa wrap mmmmm Bombay Wraps just opened. Decided to give it a try for a quick take out dinner tonight. They aren’t joking when they say “fresh. Indian. FAST” Be prepared to order quickly. As it was my first time here and first time experiencing Indian food not at a sit down restaurant, i had no idea what i wanted. I felt pressured to order so i just chose the chicken tikka masala. The girl behind the glass (kind of like at chipotle) asked me if i wanted everything on it. I didn’t know you could get salad on top of tikka masala, but i guess that’s what i got today haha. The masala sauce is just inside of a squirt bottle that they drizzle on your chunks of chicken and serving spoon-full of rice. For a second, i thought maybe she had mistaken my menu choice for something else without sauce. There were a few questions i had about the menu but i felt too rushed to ask about them, so I’ll probably just go back another day to try them out. They have a bunch of reaaaally yummy sounding stuff. I felt kind of bummed out about my order, the foreign stuff that was slapped on it, and that in my head i would have a bunch of warm curry on a bed of rice (fast). Instead, I had what looks like something from chipotle in a bowl but Indian food. I reluctantly went in for a bite and DANG it’s good. I was shocked! Haha They instantly won me over with the flavors of everything so i will 100% be back. Their samosas are small and come in a 3 pack. They were also very delicious. If you’re in the area, totally check this place out — just be prepared for super fast service and to be ready to order ASAP… maybe look up the menu before visiting if you get nervous like i do haha. Welcome to the neighborhood Bombay Wraps! So glad you’re not another sushi place, bank, or nail salon! Ha

Akash Miami Beach – Menu with Prices – 1435 Alton Rd, Miami Beach

I visited Akash for a weeknight dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised! We both enjoy Indian cuisine and these chefs really nailed it on flavor and spice! Our server recommended the garlic naan to start and I could not get enough. My friend ordered lamb vindaloo and I ordered chicken tikka masala. The chunks of juicy chicken breast were cooked in an abundance of sauce, which I was able to soak my rice in! (Would it be appropriate to drink the tikka masala sauce? Asking for a friend). I washed down the spice with a sweet guava margarita, which paired perfectly with the meal. For dessert, we ordered the maple doughnut holes. I was not the biggest fan because of the consistency, but they still tasted good. All in all, I can say my tastebuds danced throughout this entire experience and I’m glad to have great Indian food in the Miami area!

Chicago’s Pizza With A Twist – Menu with Prices – 1885 S Virginia St, Reno

Do yourself a flavor (see what I did there) and check this place out! You wouldn’t expect Indian food and pizza to work together but Chicago’s pizza harmonizes it perfectly. My friends and I indulged in chicken tikka masala pizza, kebob pizza, butter chicken pasta, and gulab jamun. One of the main reasons I wanted to try this place was because of their butter chicken pasta. It was totally different from what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. The chicken tikka masala and kebob pizza were delicious. I’ve never had pizza with so many ingredients that worked so well together. None of the ingredients overpowered the other. Each bite was an explosion of flavor. Out of the two I liked the chicken tikka masala more but I would definitely order both again. My friend even said that it was the best pizza they ever had! Pizza has never been one of my favorites but getting to try their twists has definitely made me a fan. We ended it on a sweet note with gulab jamun which is one of my favorite desserts. They served it warm which made it even more decadent. The workers are very friendly and eager to help if you’re overwhelmed by the menu and confused on what to get. I can wait to come back to try other things on the menu!

IndiBowl – Mount Vernon Menu with Prices 520 Park Ave Store LM, Marketplace, Baltimore

This is one of my go-to lunch spots in Mt. Vernon. I actually find the portion size to be quite large, as I sometimes struggle to finish a bowl because I become so full. I do agree with the one reviewer about the chicken fat, though. While most of the chicken meat is tender and flavorful, I do sometimes get a bite of fat. I’m by no means a food expert, especially when it comes to Indian food, but I tend to think of IndiBowl as fast Indian food/Chipotle style Indian food. I don’t think that makes it any less delicious, but I don’t think you should expect your bowl to taste like a dish you might get at a restaurant like Royal Taj. Still one of my favorite spots to eat at during the work week! I usually get the chicken tikka masala bowl with biryani-flavored basmati rice. Additionally, I get the channa masala (chickpea curry), jalapenos, onion, cilantro, lettuce, mint sauce, and the white sauce (sorry, I don’t remember what this is!)

Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine – Santa Monica – Menu with Prices – 262 26th St, Santa Monica

Decided to try Taras with a friend who highly recommended it. They started us off with a complimentary papadum with a potato-like dip. I always like my complimentary items hehe. The papadum itself is like a thin, crispy flat bread. It was a bit too salty for my liking. There were still a lot leftover of this after the meal… Chicken Tikka Masala: The creamy, yogurt based sauce has a nice rich flavor. Perfect for dipping with the garlic naan, which by the way is a must with Indian curries. Chicken was a tad overcooked but I’m not too surprised since chicken in stews are often overcooked in restaurants. Midway through the meal, I started to notice how much oil the tikka masala had, making the dish a bit tiring to finish. Pro tip: pour some of the sauce over the rice. Garlic Naan: A must here if you get the curries. It’s always a nice vehicle for the sauce. The naan came out fairly crispy and warm. More garlic would make it even better. Service: It was nice they checked on us but at a point, it became a bit interruptive. Because there didn’t seem to be a designated server for our table, multiple people were checking in. Ambience: It’s nice restaurant with new decor. A fine place to grab dinner with family or friends. For the price (~$21), I was expecting a bit more quality but for being in West LA I guess it’s reasonable(?). The quantity was perfect- I was satisfied with the size of the garlic naan (although I’d probably share this between myself another person next time), chicken tikka masala and rice.

Ashiana Indian Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10960 S Eastern Ave #107, Henderson

+ LOCATION/PARKING: Ashiana North Indian Cuisine is located on Eastern Avenue just north of the entrance to near Anthem. Located in the Shell gas station plaza sharing the same parking lot with Smile Shop Dental, Sugar Cookie, Zen Coffee Bar, Osaka, etc. This is a mom & pop store kinda hidden in a mall where there has been a lot of different businesses and it is not very visible from the street, but i hope they will get business from word of mouth, they deserve it. + SETTING/AMBIENCE [5/5]: The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door was the homey atmosphere and genuine care from everyone. The decor is very welcoming and the people so pleasant! + SERVICE [5/5]: I came into the restaurant during the weekday. With a staff of one… He was attentive and made sure we had a pleasurable experience. Our waitress was quick with suggestions and helped us navigate the ample menu. + DRINK(s)//FOOD(s) [5/5]: Ashiana’s flavorful food has already attracted a local following. Most people who are used to Indian food often are reminded of South Indian curries spicy… However, North Indian curry has more masala in it. And it has a base of onion, garlic and ginger that is stronger! That’s something to consider when ordering anything. The ownership group is mostly from the Punjab province, and the focus on traditional, homestyle dishes from their native region. I personally ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. This rich and creamy flavor some Chicken tikka rivals any Indian restaurant! With aromatic golden chicken pieces swimming in an incredible curry sauce, this Chicken Tikka Masala recipe is one of the best you will try! + OVERALL [5/5]: I would come back over and over again…

Punjab Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 5479 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee

Sometimes trying out a new Indian restaurant can be a Gamble. You never know what region the kooks maybe from or how they will prepare their food. I had a strong desire today for my favorite Indian appetizer Gobi Manchurian. I looked up on Google Punjab kitchen to be close enough and they had the food I was looking for. The restaurant from the outside looks kind of plai. it is in a strip mall.I have learned from previous encounters at restaurants to never judge a book by its cover and never judge a restaurant based on its location when I went in the atmosphere was comforting they had good upbeat Indian music on and I was helped immediately the service was very good there were two very nice women who were very attentive and at the same time never overbearing. I placed my order knowing already what I had wanted I got the Gobi Manchurian I got chicken tikka masala spicy and an order of garlic naan. The food came out quickly. Everything tasted very good. The Gobi Manchurian was cooked just right, the garlic naan was cooked great and had just the right amount of garlic. The chicken tikka masala was on point. I ordered it spicy but it was in no way overwhelming. of course it comes with white rice and what I enjoyed was they gave just enough rice to enjoy the meal with I’ve been to a lot of places that over do the rice as if they’re trying to fill you up on it but this was the perfect amount.sometimes when I’m having a good meal like this I look and try to find if there is actually any down points to my experience. There was none at this restaurant everything was either exactly what I expected or above and beyond. I would recommend this restaurant and if I lived closer I would come here more often!

Moghul Indian Grill – Menu with Prices – 121 Marshall St, Syracuse

I visited this Indian grill while visiting from Delaware to Syracuse for the purpose of relocating for school and work. The gentleman I initially spoke with there that I ordered with was very pleasant. I had two orders for him one was mine and the other one was what my sister texted me she wanted which was Tikka Masala Chick Peas w garlic naan. I showed him the text from my sister of the food she wanted and I ordered food with shrimp and my food was absolutely delicious and exactly as described. My sisters food I handed to her who is a vegetarian and to our surprise it had chicken in it. An earlier day we had gone to a Indian Grill down the street from there and gave them the same name and there was no chicken in it. The original gentleman I spoke to left for a moment and there was another person there from the back we told him that she didnâ??t eat chicken and heâ??s told us it was not his problem that there was nothing that he could do, he would not exchange the food for the same dish without chicken out or even give us a refund we ended up leaving the food with him and told him to give it to the homeless because we could not eat it. We were deeply insulted by the fact that less than two minutes of leaving the shop and going back he would not exchange the food or give a refund he just said itâ??s not his problem, simply very poor customer service. This guy even went as far as saying we could see the food prepared and we should know what was put in it, however, not to be insulting there were a few foods there that were unrecognizable to me as I donâ??t always eat Indian food. The main gentleman that is usually at the desk itâ??s unfortunate he walked away from serving because he was very accommodating. I would never go back into that grill just based on the unprofessionalism and non-customer service of the gentleman I ran into secondly. As a vegetarian some may not understand how sick one could get from eating meat, that was definitely a terrible experience.

Chatpatay Casual Indian Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 9211 N Tryon St Ste 13, Charlotte

My partner and I were craving some Indian food. Unfortunately, there were no good places near the Concord Mills area so we drove a little out of the way to make sure we filled our fix. This place doesn’t look like much but the staff and owner were so nice! They told us their favorites and what their customers like. We took all of their advice with no regrets (except maybe on my wallet). We got the mango papdi chaat, plain & gobi paratha, 2 Indian sodas, lamb biryani, and chicken tikka masala. It was reasonably priced, but I definitely wasn’t expecting to get so many things. We’re a sucker for trying new things. The mango papdi chaat was good – refreshing with a surprising amount of heat. The Indian sodas were good too – very slightly spiced though I don’t know how to quite describe them. The plain paratha was A+ crispy and buttery. It went very well with my partner’s chicken tikka masala, which was SO RICH and tasty, with exceptionally moist chicken. The lamb biryani was good as well. Good spices, big pieces of lamb, and just so so good with the raita. The only thing I wouldn’t order again is the gobi paratha. It was a little dry, but I could tell their parathas are more authentic than other places – they definitely use whole wheat flour, not using enriched bleached flour for American tastes. The owner stopped by to talk with us a couple times and ensure the food was good. I was very happy with the food and service. I liked that the restaurant was casual in that you get your own silverware and water. It’s worth the detour to ensure you get solid Indian food.

Hot & Spicy Corner – Menu with Prices – 3431 Houma Blvd suite b, Metairie

I cannot emphasize how happy I am that: 1. Hot and Spicy Corner extists and 2. That they are on food delivery apps! Until this point, good casual (Saffron is great but a little too fancy for eating while you binge watch Netflix in your pajamas) Indian food was the hole missing in the heart of New Orleans food scene. My boyfriend’s family is from India so he and I may have been a little excessive in our ordering: 1. Chicken biriyani- tender bone in chicken in rice with the perfect amount of spice! 2. Goat Curry- I didn’t have this, but my boyfriend said it was incredibly flavorful 3. Chicken Tikka Masala- beautifully tender chunks of chicken in a spicy, creamy sauce. This had a good kick to it that I’m not used to getting at restaurants. 4. Chicken Manchurian- great dish, basically an Indian take on Chinese food. My boyfriend said that this is something he has been trying to track down for a while. 5. Bhindi Masala- chopped okra in spicy masala seasoning. This was probably my favorite! 6. Dal Makhani- think of this as Indian red beans and rice. Flavorful and very filling. Honestly, each dish could easily feed two people, so we will be eating this for the next few days, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! There are a TON of veggie options as well as halal meat. Definitely check them out!
