Last Thursday I went to get coffee at 6:42pm. I know they close at 7, but I’m a nurse and I work nights and I wanted coffee for two other coworkers and I. The girl working opens the window, already looking annoyed, and says “Well, I hope you don’t want anything hot.” There was no, “Hi, what can I get for you?” Or “Welcome to Brewed Awakenings, what can I get started for you?” She clearly just wanted to leave on time at the end of her shift. I stated “well, yeah, I was hoping to get some coffee.” and she just said “Well I already cleaned the machines. [long pause] I could probably make you something iced if you want.” I was so taken aback by the fact that this COFFEE place didn’t want to make me any coffee. My coworker has brought me coffee from here before, and it was great. I wanted to return the favor and bring some great coffee to work to start our shift off nicely, and instead I got this negative experience from a girl who clearly didn’t want to work very hard that day. It’s too bad that this place is convenient for work, but I won’t be coming back.

1369 Coffee House – Menu with Prices – 757 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

I read the reviews and was thrilled to come here after going to visit the Harvard Campus. I was very optimistic but the person in front of me (who I didn’t know), as well as my order, were both wrong. He wanted some iced coffee, which they made hot, I wanted the same. He said he wanted it iced and the girl making the espressos said “oh yea, I guess it was supposed to be cold” but then didn’t offer to remake it. The guy felt awkward and left. I got my drink, which was supposed to be iced, and it was hot. I own restaurants so I can understand this so I just said put some more milk in it and I’ll take it hot. The girl put literally one tablespoon of milk in it and handed it back and gave me a look which made me feel like I wasn’t welcome there. I walked outside, threw it in the trash, and drove to to another coffee house to get what I actually wanted. I’m sure this was just a fluke but I don’t live in the Boston area so going to try it again is out of the question.

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard – Menu with Prices – 2000 Columbia Ave, Lancaster

Mmm, sort of not really ice cream.. ———- FOOD: Theyve got custard, and iced drink type things called mistys. My girl got a new ritaccino which i found to be tooo strong. Im not big on coffee, but she is and loved it. I got a cookies and cream thing that was pretty good. DECOR: Its essentially a stand outside. There is no inside to sit at, just an outside. I didnt see any tables or anything, just some benches nearby. Seems like it would be a giant pain in the butt in the heat of summer.. SERVICE: Good. The counter girl was quick. ——— WOULD I GO BACK? If it were just me? No. Im a DQ guy at heart, gimme a blizzard any day. But my girl llloooovvess Ritas, so well probably be there again..

Heart and Soul Coffee – Menu with Prices – 930 11th St, Modesto

Little brother wanted some coffee after having lunch. He recommended this place that is downtown. The ambiance was cool. Love the open space. I ordered a hot mocha and my brother ordered a different drink. Think it had the name of lumberjack latte but I could be wrong. The drinks were made fast but one issue. The girl made me an iced mocha and not a hot mocha. Oh well let’s run with it right. I’m actually glad I did. This iced mocha was good. Just the perfect amount of sweetness. If I had to do it all over, I would Order a non fat iced mocha. In the end, the screw up turned out to be a blessing. Thanks for the great iced mocha.

The Commons – Menu with Prices – 7900 Mack Ave, Detroit

One stop coffee and laundry -yes it exists- in West Village. At first when I heard that The Commons was a coffee shop and laundry mat I was a little taken aback, however the idea is genius. At the counter you can select from coffee and lattes, baked goods, ice cream and of course all of the laundry essentials. The prices are great and my iced chai and chocolate chip cookie were both on point. One thing that was a bit odd is that the smell of fresh laundry really overpowers the smell of coffee, but personally I found it amazing. Quick Note: -They do both laundry and coffee well here. So don’t feel strange about just stopping in for a beverage, it is a great place to hang out even if you aren’t doing wash as well.

2Ten Coffee Roasters – Menu with Prices – 3007 Montana Ave, El Paso

Stopped in looking for a nice study spot and I surely hit the bullseye on this one. I could’ve/would’ve stayed until close if I’d not forgotten my computer charger. First let me say it’s a super cute/trendy coffee shop. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to drink. Since I was going to be studying here, I needed to get a feel for the temperature inside. Usually if it’s chilly inside, I’ll order a hot drink and if it’s comfortable, I’ll get an iced drink. This is just because I’m usually always cold but the temp was perfect inside for an iced drink. The employer recommended the honey latte. Oh emmmm geeee!!!! Let me tell you, it would be difficult to convince me to order anything else whenever visiting here. Even more impressive is the fact that their roaster is RIGHT there. I actually enjoyed watching whatever it was doing overall great vibes at this spot. I’ll be sure to return and have my charger with me this time so I can spend a full day here studying! Thanks 2Ten!

Ginger and Baker – Menu with Prices – 359 Linden St, Fort Collins

I’ve been in a few more times now to the bakery only, when on my own. Coffee drinks here are very good, as are the pastries I’ve bought. Pricey, but very good, some are even better than my own homemade ones! Last Wed., it was so hot outside, 98â?? at 1:30 pm, according to my cellphone’s weather app. I was downtown after leaving a lunch meeting and needing a pick-me-up. Due to road work in the area, I was detoured towards Linden St.. As I turned on Linden towards Lemay, I saw G&B and thought I’d stop in for an iced coffee and a pastry, and enjoy the a/c for a half hour. As I looked in the pastry & pie case, I realized I was having difficulty choosing which pastry to get, since I wasn’t really hungry anymore. So, I asked the counter girl to tell me about a few. After listening and looking a bit more, I chose the Blueberry/Almond bar. It was every bit as light and delicious as I was lead to believe. I love blueberries, and the ones on the top were large and flavorful. The iced coffee really hit the spot too.

Fresh Smoothies & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2450 Creston Ave, The Bronx

I would like to think it was because I came in 15 min to closing but that shouldnt change the attitude that you have towards the customer. I walked in and the ladies were talking they looked at me and continued talking. Very disrespectful didnt get greeted or anything, so I said excuse me and asked for what I wanted. Then I told her ill buy an orange juice aswell only for the simple fact that I wanted to see the machine working she stated that the machine is off and the juice was premade that defeated the purpose of wanting the juice so I didnt get it, but They have a lil process that’s done to meet customers satisfaction they serve you an ounce or 2 of w.e. smoothie you ordered to taste for perfection incase you want to add anything or change anything but as I get my sample the lady started to pour it in the cup, didnt wait for my opinion. It wasnt as cold as I would have wanted it to be but didnt wanna start anything I just said it was fine. The one moping gets mad because my boots were dirty she told me to stand by the door and the other lady tells me to come over to the cashier to pay and the one mopping gets mad. I just think for a first time experience on a Friday night it should have been a little better.. I’ll come again another time maybe I’ll change my rating but as of now very disappointed

Wildflower Bread Company – Menu with Prices – 75 E Rivulon Blvd #101, Gilbert

I love this place. Seriously. I came in for like the 30th time on Sunday, and it was stellar as always! Way better than the Panera across the street and Kneaders too. The girl who rang me up at the register was super nice, I think she said her name was Cheyenne. Later I saw her sweeping too! Don’t work her so hard! The guy who brought me my food was dressed up in a button-up shirt, not like everyone else. So, I guess he was a manager? I like to see management take an active role in their establishment. It really shows. The food is always super fresh, just come early so they don’t run out of bread. Get the Chicken Basil Chili or the Potato Cream Cheese soup, you won’t regret it. Breakfast is awesome too. Every sandwich on the menu is good. Their iced tea is great, coffee is great too. The only negative thing I can say is that I usually end up spending too much when I come in!

Divine Donuts Fort Myers – Menu with Prices – 9131 College Pkwy #145, Fort Myers

The bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a glazed donut was absolutely outstanding! They pay close attention to the details which makes the difference between average and exceptional. A great example is the iced coffee comes with coffee ice cubes and the coffee is chilled so that the ice doesn’t melt the instant the coffee is poured. Additionally the flavor and taste of the coffee was great, everything was freshly made.

Mary’s Little House of Coffee – Menu with Prices – 130 W Stocker St, Glendale

I was racially profiled here. I went in because the outside advertised fresh-brewed coffee daily. When I walked inside, it reeked of cologne. The odor of cologne overwhelmed me. A place that sells coffee and food should smell like /food/ or /baked goods/, not whatever that was. I’m very sensitive to smell when I eat somewhere because that’s! how! you! taste! I specifically chose Mary’s Little House over the Starbucks across the street in an effort to support a local business. I happened to have just finished a banana so threw the peel away before walking to the counter to order. It was my first time in this place and so naturally, I looked around and looked at the carafes of coffee. Why say you have fresh-brewed coffee if you’re going to leave a carafe out all day? That’s just FALSE ADVERTISING. Eyeing the carafes, I asked “Is your coffee freshly brewed?” The guy answered, “yes,” and there was a long pause as I tried to determine the veracity of this statement. Looking around, I didn’t see any coffee pot where this “freshly brewed” coffee would come from. Coffee doesn’t just /come/ from carafes. So I walk up to the counter, still looking at the menu and the guy says, “You know if you just came in here to throw away your trash, it’s okay. You can go.” Taken aback, I responded, “I didn’t come in here just to throw away my trash.” He said, “It’s okay, no problem,” and walked away from the counter. “There are trashcans outside,” I responded and left, sure to add, “You can be a better person, or at least, you can try!” Either brew good fresh coffee or provide better service to your brown-skinned patrons but you guys better get your shit together.

Scooter’s Coffee – Menu with Prices – 5 Old 63 S, Columbia

I usually go to Starbucks on Broadway which I hate becausr ya know so i made a point to go to scooters. I asked for a medium mocha, the drive thru girl asked if i wanted that hot or cold. In my head i remember thinking why do they even ask that when it’s -15 °F and told her hot. When i got to the window they handed me a cold mocha, which looked great but not what i asked for. Usually I would live with the mistake cause i HATE making service industry people do more work that necessary (im a waitress) but i decided I would be unhappy if i didnt voice the error because just to clarify, I really wanted a hot mocha. I say it in the nicest, shyest, we all make mistakes sorta way as to make sure she didnt get upset or annoyed. The drive thru window girl then proceeded to disagree with me I said cold, almost argue…which was just awkward and i tried to give the mocha back that i hadnt even pulled through my window and she refused which i understand for health code but i wasn’t trying to get a cold mocha so it makes sense I would try to give it back. Scooters then does remake the hot mocha, but they had the manager give it to me and nobody said youre welcome when i said thank you or sorry, just “yup”. Pretty rude and i wouldn’t go back because the Starbucks on Broadway weirdly goes out of their way to be extra friendly and accomodating. And the prices are the same but they arent rude, EVER and i consider this starbucks super superior to any ive been to. Scooters made their own coffee taste bad to me, bad enough to leave this review. And with Starbucks right their, a giant competitor, I would have thought harder about how to treat customers in that manner. Won’t be going back! Hope they dont make you feel like human trash for telling them of their own mistakes in the nicest way possible!
