We drove from North Hollywood to see if the urban legend was true! Mr. Barrington offered us a complimentary sample of jerk chicken, oxtail , curry goat and chicken curry. The jerk chicken was amazing, plenty of flavor in all the samples. The one thing we immediately pick up on was boldness in flavor. You can taste a hint of the thyme and garlic and pepper. So much flavor! We cane for the oxtail but took some jerk chicken to go. So rare to find a good restaurants that feels like home cooking, especially a Jamaican one. All the dishes hit the spot. Here was our rating -Curry chicken 7/10 (I prefer slightly spicier) -Jerk chicken 10/10 (we would give it a 11 if we could) -Oxtail 9/10 great taste and texture. Wish it had a tiny bit more salt but that’s just a preference. -Goat curry 8/10 very soft, a ton of flavor in the gravy. We also tried the side dishes -Cabbage and plantains fresh and had flavor but not the reason we drove 2hrs from Noho, we came for the FLAVOR! Conclusion This place is unique and YES the legend is true about Mr. Barrington’s jerk chicken is different than the manny jerk dishes we have had in LA. The food tasted like it’s was cooked at home. Yup we will probably visit again! Until the next road trip. I hope he keeps his recipes the same and does not comprise as the resturant gets bigger and fires more staff.

Le Casablanca – Menu with Prices – 55 Byward Market Square, Ottawa

I am going start this by pre-facing with…. I don’t know anything about Moroccan food. I know they use these beautiful looking dishes called Tajine. That’s about the extent of my knowledge of this cuisine. Now while I can’t just their authenticity (and I don’t doubt it either), I can however give you my opinion of the taste of this stuff and unfortunately it’s mediocre. The chicken was extremely dry and lacking in flavour. There wasn’t much spice nor flavouring in it. Even the curry gravy that was smothered on it didn’t taste like much. The vegetables were equally disappointing with very little flavour of any sort. The only surprise was the coucous, it was pillowy and nicely salted. I also didn’t like the fact that despite my partner asking for chicken curry gravy it ended tasting like goat. Now, I am okay with that but some folks don’t like the strong gamey flavours of goat. Last but not least, the biggest deal breaker is perhaps the price. Understandably this is a tourist area and you’re bound to be trapped but at $15 for a chicken leg, veggies and some couscous it is steep! Only try it if you can appreciate all I have said above.

Taste of Jamaica – Menu with Prices – 10014 N Rodney Parham Rd, Little Rock

After reading the reviews, all I can say is that they must have listened. We went last night and got the oxtail, jerk chicken and curry. It was amazing and the portions were big. My two kids split the curry and we had a little jerk chicken and rice to take home. We also ordered a beef patty, which is encased in this delicious breading. The music, vibe and friendly staff found us probably outstaying our welcome, while our kids danced to the music. I’d like to go back again tonight, because now I’m craving it. The ONLY thing I might suggest to bring in more customers, is more booth seating. There are only two booths and I was so happy we were in one of them. It’s a big restaurant and slightly more comfortable seating might appeal to the tushes of Little Rock. Overall, this is my new spot. Totally delicious…

Caribbean Citchen – Menu with Prices – 10500 W McNichols Rd, Detroit

I wanted to rate it 4.95 only because of a formality. Read review thoroughly to understand. The food and the service is the bomb….don’t get me wrong! The staff is nice and accommodating.! I often order the curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken, cabbage and rice and peas. Sometimes the ackee and salt fish! Restaurant is totally consistent in taste and temperature of food as well as authenticity of Jamaican fare! (Married to a Jamaican. He cooks it and we have visited many other Caribbean places) Not overpriced but deliver satisfaction almost always! Recommend ordering over the phone because line can sometimes be intimidating. Parking lot stays full and May look super busy sometimes and may not be. So don’t give up. Only complaint is that the “lobby” is dark which may make it feel gloomy and drab. There is no place to sit to eat but looks as if they have been working on a little small area for some time that won’t accommodate many people. One last thing the food is so good people cannot wait to get home to eat it so they eat in their cars in the lot causing only street parking to be available and a little walk to get to the door.

Caribbean Wave Jamaican Jerk Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3125, 701 E Chestnut St, Lancaster

I decided to step and try the Caribbean wave tonight. Let me start by saying I have tried just about every Jerk chicken in Lancaster County and I am ALWAYS left disappointed. I seem to constantly get an americanized version of jerk chicken. Well….NO MORE!! I haven’t had jerk chicken THIS good since I left Jamaica!!! Wow! They execute this dish PERFECTLY! Why there is NOT a line down the street is beyond me! This place is absolutely phenomenal! We also tried the goat curry and again…ON POINT! Thank you, thank you Caribbean wave for bringing the magical flavors of Jamaican cooking right here to Lancaster, PA. I will be frequenting this place at least once a week! At least! Nice little place with a cheery interior and friendly service. I am just blown away! Where have they been hiding all this time??? Truly one of Lancasters best kept secrets. Do yourselves a favor and go check this place out! Reasonable prices for what you get. It’s one heck of a great deal!!! Love, love, love it!!!! ð??ð???ð??¥ð???ð??

Kelly’s Jamaican Foods Menu with Prices 1583 S Lumpkin St, Athens

Absolutely one of my favorite spots in Athens. I used to go here at least once a week until I definitely started to feel it in my wallet and guts! Definitely always call ahead to make sure they have the meat and sides that you want because they do run out fast! Food: DELICIOUS AND SPICY! I always order a large jerk pork plate with double Mac and cheese since the dairy helps cool off the spicy pork! I order jerk pork because not only it’s the spiciest, it’s the least fussiest. I’ve had their jerk, curry, and bbq chicken and since it’s all bone-in wings, it gets messy to eat with all the sauce. My boyfriend’s favorites are their curry goat and oxtail that comes only on certain days (usually weekends). Their best side is definitely their Mac n cheese but their rice and peas and collard greens come close. You also get cornbread and sweet tea with your meal. Their sweet tea is the BEST I’ve ever had and I’m pretty picky. It is ridiculously sweet but you’ll need that after taking a bite of their jerk food. Their food is super authentic and their portions are generous. I always have enough leftover for another meal the next day. Price: You can’t beat the price. $14 for a large jerk pork plate, and it’s $13 for the other large plates. $10-12 if you want a small, but with such a little difference you might as well get a large. Since I normally can split a large into two meals, I’m technically paying $7 for each portion AND it already comes with sweet tea drink (free refills). Other drinks you have to pay for, about $2 for soda and $4+ for beer which is standard. Service: Theres no waiter and it is basically a fast casual restaurant, so you pick your protein + 2 sides and given at the register. Sometimes they’re friendly, sometimes they’re very businesslike. There is always one older lady who is at the front and while she seems mean, she’s actually quite nice! She always compliments my nails haha and Mr. Kelly, who I assume is the owner, is always a friendly face around the spot and makes it a point to have a conversation with all of us. It’s not uncommon for him to join a table and have a friendly chitchat. Overall: I love this place. I would have given it 5 stars but I docked 1 due to how stale the sides can taste at times depending on I guess who cooked it. They’re fine with giving out burnt cornbread too which I don’t mind, but it definitely miffs my boyfriend. Also the restaurant can be incredibly humid and stuffy even if there’s nobody in there. The staff is a mixed bag, although generally nice. I definitely do recommend this place and it is an Athens STAPLE! Generous portions, overall good service, and delicious food and tea!!!

Irie Vibes rva – Menu with Prices – 1221 N Laburnum Ave, Richmond

Was very disappointed with the food, oxtails cabbage rice and beans. My husband got curry goat with cabbage and rice and beans. We both felt like the rice was not good. It had a very weird after taste. The cabbage was fine but it could have been better. It might of been overcooked because it was made wilted and mushy. The oxtails were thin and barely had meat on them. I was so disappointed again. I wish I tried the sorrel and the plantain but both were grossly overpriced. I do like your location even though it’s hot as balls inside. I couldn’t eat there, it would have had to be takeout. Which proved to be 70% nasty rice. That’s not even an exaggeration for clarity, there literally was more rice than oxtails and cabbage combined. My husband plate was more gravy than curry goat. So he had what looked like slop to say the least. Eew. Overall I was let down by the other comments and the photos posted. I thought I was eating some authentic jamaican cuisine. But that won’t it, sis. It wasn’t good a little bit. It just wasn’t hitting on anything and I’m out about $30 & some change. Needless to say I’m off of it for a while. Tried this place because it is open later and stocked with oxtails and goat when we requested it. Not coming back. Sorry but for real though.

Country Style – Menu with Prices – 4213 E 131st St, Cleveland

I love love love unassuming locations that pack a major surprise. That would be this location. I ordered the jerk chicken and oxtails. The chicken was just the right amount of heat to meet the juiciness each bite contained. The oxtail was savory just how I like it. The cabbage with mixed veggies had to be the best that I’ve gotten at a local restaurant in years. Finally, the rice and peas! For a part of the meal that I typically see as a filler, this ended up being the highlight. I don’t even know how to explain it other than deliciously intoxicating. Seasoning was spot on, rice and beans were perfectly tender, and the gravy was a generous but not overbearing amount. I’ll be back!

Maple Street Biscuit Company- Alpharetta Menu with Prices 73 Milton Ave #113, Alpharetta

I didn’t realize that this was a franchise. I enjoyed the decor of this location and it gave off a very Southern farm-to-table vibe. The service is friendly but the food comes out on the slower side. We ordered the following items below: The Squawking Goat – Had to try this Food Network feature but it was the most disappointing of the items we ordered. I enjoyed the sharp contrast between the pepper jelly and the goat cheese. Why was this taste so familiar? My friend aptly reminded me that Chinese restaurant kids will know this “unique” flavor. That’s right folks, look no further than Orange Chicken…. The Five and Dime – This right here defines the South. Delicious, dependable, and direct. Three Layer Cake – Honestly not impressive at all, it’s a tower of hashbrowns smothered in gravy. I would have rather had WaffleHouse hashbrowns cooked extra extra crispy, then smothered in gravy and eggs instead. Lessons learned: I would definitely come back again if I need a Chicken and Biscuits fix, but I will probably ignore the items that were misses and just go for a Five and Dime. DO try the shiitake mushroom gravy instead of the sausage, it is AMAZING and complements the ingredients extremely well.

Anjuels Rincon Latino – Menu with Prices – 12411 White Bluff Rd, Savannah

Drove down from Guyton to drop the dog off and wanted something good to eat outside the spectrum of fast food. Pulled up the map on Yelp and found Anjuels just four minutes away. The pictures posted were enough to get me there. Menu is different every day. Friday was stew chicken and goat, so I got a takeout order or each, with a nice helping of yellow rice with shrimp, beans, and fried plantains. The drive home was torture as the aromas slowly escaped the bag at each bump in the road. Turned out the wife wasn’t hungry, so I got to eat my share of both. Chicken and goat were both equally delicious. What really brought it home was the rice and beans. Each separately were really good, but together they were packed with flavor. The fried plantains were perfectly cooked. I’d go back just for the rice and beans.

J.A. Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 3924 Pio Nono Ave, Macon

Love love love this place! The food is fantastic! I’ve tried the jerk chicken, curried goat and pineapple ginger wings they are all outstanding. The sides are delicious too! And very affordable, I got Jerk chicken red beans and rice and steamed cabbage for just 5.99. The staff are super friendly and obviously care a lot about their food. I can’t say enough good things about this great restaurant. Don’t miss it.

Junior’s Cafe and Grill – Menu with Prices – 3455 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

This is the best Caribbean (Jamaican ) Restaurant that i have visited. Its not a fancy place but the food its amazing. Very clean its attended by the owner and his family .definitely have to try this place .they have great curry goat, great oxtail and fish.this is by far better than any Caribbean franchise in the area. It’s always better when it’s run by the family itself.

Nicely’s Jamaican Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 301 W 4th St, Wilmington

It’s a hole in the wall, on a corner, in the hood. Clean establishment that’s painted with the JA flag colors so you can’t miss it. I didn’t have high expectations of finding a Caribbean spot in boring, plain Delaware, BUTTTT this jerk chicken is very high on my list of favorite jerk chicken spots. The employee (maybe owner?) was so kind and he definitely gave me that “at home” feeling that I like to get when going to Caribbean spots. The food was excellent. I had jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage and plantain. And that hot sauce that he put on the jerk chicken was so savory. This place is on point and its a large portion for the money. Can’t go wrong.
