Another great breakfast! When we arrived on Saturday just after 8am, there was exactly one empty table. We grabbed it & waited for it to be cleaned. Our server was very nice, although very busy. I ordered a biscuit & gravy, two eggs scrambled with cheese, and avocado. It was perfect! The gravy was sausage-y, although it didn’t have a lot of chunky meat in it. The biscuit was soft and fell apart in the gravy. They were generous with the cheese and avo. I did note that after about 5 minutes, the dish had turned cold, so I finished it that way. It was still good. My wife had a pancake with a side of potatoes and fruit. The potatoes were nice & crunchy, but she would have liked more flavor, maybe the addition of onions or peppers. The fruit was bananas, pears, and apples, and they were all fresh and perfectly ripe. She loved that! My son had the Full Hot Mess, a plate of biscuits and gravy with hash browns and a sausage patty. He ordered the patty spicy, and really liked that. He would have preferred the hash browns on the side, but overall he said it was an 8 out of 10 breakfast. They have exactly one bathroom stall for everyone. My wife stepped in to use it, and the previous occupant had peed all over everything. It was gross, although not Carla’s fault. We told Carla, and she was instantly in there cleaning it. This is indicative of Carla’s commitment to quality. We’ll be back!

Cook’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1300 N 66th St, Lincoln

Good breakfast at a good price with exceptional service. It’s simple, clean, and no frills. As I normally do when I’m visiting another city, I went all out. My order consisted of a half order of biscuits & gravy, sausage links, hash browns, bacon/egg/cheese omelette, and 2x blueberry pancakes. The biscuits and gravy were good (and oddly enough had enough pepper…most places never use enough pepper). The sausage links worked well with syrup. The hash browns reminded me very much of waffle house hash browns, which are also good. The omelette was fine, but didn’t really stand out. The best part of the mean was definitely the blueberry pancakes. Those monsters were terrific. Even though I gorged, my bill was still under $25. And my coffee cup never got below half full despite my beat efforts and probably drinking a pot and a half’s worth. Not sure if this joint is worth going way out of the way for, but if it’s close by and you’re wanting a nice down home breakfast; this is a great option.

Omlette Inn Cafe – Menu with Prices – 15070 Edwards St, Huntington Beach

In my quest to find quality B&G around the OC, I visited Omellete Inn. At first I was the only customer. A single employee ran the front of the house. Since Biscuits and Gravy is not a toast option, I decided not to order an omelette. Instead, I ordered a plate of Biscuits and Gravy. It took a little while but I saw that as a good sign since given the lack of customers, they would have to make it rather than heat it up. What arrived were four halves of real buttermilk biscuits, toasted on a flattop, turned cut side up, and covered with gravy. The biscuits were the drop kind. They aren’t flaky, but cakey. That is fine. The gravy is real gravy, not a mix and tasted good. It could have used a little salt and a lot of pepper. I fixed that and finished the plate. B&G is a dying art and the Omellete Inn is keeping it alive with the real deal. I would like to see an upgrade on the breakfast plates that instead of toast you can get a half or even quarter order of B&G instead of toast. Also, they need a breakfast plate that features gravy besides CFS. The most common is 2 eggs and sausage patties atop a split biscuit covered in gravy, with potatoes on the side. Like a country eggs Benedict.

Dierk’s Midtown Café – Menu with Prices – 1422 4th St, Santa Rosa

Dierk’s is incredible! Today was my 3rd visit there, and let me tell you…delicious!!! My first visit I had the biscuits & gravy. Very tasty! However, if you’re looking for that traditional super fluffy biscuit…this isn’t it. Which I didn’t mind it all because it was more enjoyable this way. Not such a heavy & dense meal, like typical biscuits & gravy. My second visit I had Gompa’s pancake breakfast w/ a side of bacon & hash browns. Don’t judge me…I was hungry. The pancakes were fluffy, eggs cooked to perfection, hash browns well done (just as I had asked.) Delightful!! I left there very full and happy. My third visit, which was today had me exploring the salads. Let me tell you, they did not let me down. The poached egg salad is the most delectable, mouthwatering, flavorful food I have had in quite some time! INCREDIBLE! Just order it and thank me later. You like salad? Check. Eggs? Check. Croutons? Check. Bacon? Check, check, check! Trust me on this one, Dierk’s will become your new favorite hotspot! P.S. Did I mention the pull apart bread?! Also the service is always wonderful!

Metro Diner – Menu with Prices – 2068 Plank Rd, Fredericksburg

Went in for lunch on Sunday with my husband, around 1230pm. It was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The server was a very nice young lady. We had water quick, and she kept my husband’s soda full. The menu had lots of yummy options to choose from. The chicken and waffles looked AMAZING! I ordered biscuits and gravy, with cheese eggs (cheese cost extra, be aware most things cost extra, and it’s already kinda pricey) and crispy hash browns. The food took a little long, but they were busy so no surprise there. The portions were good. The taste was too bland to say it was bad, but to flavorless to say it was good. I added lots of salt and pepper to the biscuits and gravy, but still they tasted like nothing really, not even the sausage that was in it. My husband ordered a cheesesteak and max n cheese (mac and cheese cost extra, because it’s a prime side, they must buy expensive cheese) He liked everything. I tasted the mac and cheese, it was good, small portion though, since you have to pay extra they could give more. All in all a nice place. It would be better if they invested a little less in cheese and more on seasoning. I think.

The Farmhouse – Menu with Prices – 11804 Indiana Ave Ste 200, Lubbock

Disappointed. The exterior makes you think this will be a nice place to dine. The atmosphere is pretty basic and on the lower end of places. The attitude of the greeter and wait staff was not welcoming. The food was nothing special at all. The French Toast was soggy. It had no “toasted” exterior to make it French Toast. The hash browns were just shredded potatoes with no crispy ness or “browning” to make them hash browns. Eggs were plain. Bacon was nothing special. Seemed to be chewy, limp, and greasy. The syrup seemed like cheap store bought syrup. The biscuits and gravy was bland. I would not recommend this place for breakfast since there are many better options nearby.

Jimmy’s Egg – Menu with Prices – 550 N Webb Rd suite b, Wichita

This was my first experience and my last if I have anything to say about it. When we were first seated we chose a table over booth as only 4 of our usual group showed up and we thought we’d sit somewhere we could add another table just in case and told the waiter this as he was following us around with the coffee pot as we decided on a table. 20 minutes later I had to flag him down as he hadn’t even stopped to check on coffee/drink refills. He says he thought we were waiting on others and as we said, we might but anytime we have been in that situation before the wait staff always checks on drinks and asks if we are still waiting to order. My water was never refilled, fortunately I drank someone else’s. I ordered a side of hash browns and a side of biscuits and gravy. Another 10-15 minute wait to have him come out with food and say the biscuits were not ready so within another 10 minutes I am out of breakfast and still hungry, still waiting on him to notice my lack of water. He comes out another 15 or so minutes later to say the biscuits were still not ready and here we are, done with our breakfast, I’m still hungry and he has yet to notice my water which is when I say cancel the biscuits and gravy and point out my lack of water. He says he’ll get me more, I said I had to drink someone else’s, he says, at least you have water. He then brings out the tickets, of course my biscuits and gravy are canceled but he then says he took off the coffee’s for the inconvenience. DUDE! I drank water!!! (everyone else had coffee)

Tory’s Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1266 S Highland Ave, Clearwater

I didn’t give 5 stars yet because I need to return and see consistency….although it’s certainly not because they don’t deserve it. Good solid food served hot of the grill. Small clean, no frills diner that took us a couple of times to find, but we were persistent. Went for a late breakfast and had zero complaints. I ordered the two eggs and corned beef hash with fruit – eggs perfectly over easy, hash was crisped up per request, and froot was super fresh. He ordered the bagel egg and sausage sandwich and a single biscuit with gravy. The gravy was a bit thicker and the biscuit a bit denser than were are used to, but it still passed muster. The prices are extremely reasonable, the food is fresh without being greasy and cooked to order, and the service was probably the best that we’ve had recently. Sorry, no photos on this one because, well, I forgot and hungry won. We will definitely be back! And when we go, I promise to provide an updated review.

Maple Street Biscuit Company- Gunbarrel – Menu with Prices – 2114 Gunbarrel Rd, Chattanooga

This is a very trendy , modern eatery with an industrial vibe. There are huge wood tables with steel pipe bases and urban mod gun metal seating. The lighting is interesting and has the vintage Edison bulb look. The menu is different and consists of biscuits and a variety of different options to have your biscuits plates ( with chicken or bacon , add egg, with sausage gravy or shiitake mushroom gravy on top ). I ordered my gravy on the side , but unfortunately it came smothered atop of my food . There are also waffles and a variety of syrups, jams, apple butter and other possibilities to provide the most from your biscuit experience. I have 3 stars because the order wasn’t quite correct (( thus gravy smothered over food instead of on the side )) I did mention this to the counter associate and she politely offered to replace it , but do to the time constraints I declined. I would say the biscuits are not What I am typically used to eating because I grew up in a huge southern family that grandma and mom made homemade biscuits almost daily and these seemed like a different kind of biscuit. This seems to be a popular venue as there were customers flowing. They do have “bus your own table sign” that in itself wasn’t horrible. The meal ticket for 2 ( each having the farmers market which was 1 biscuit w a breaded chicken and bacon w egg and gravy on top ) also (2 ice tea ) 1 small cup grits $32!

Cleavers Chicago Style Flavor – Menu with Prices – 5501 E Indiana St, Evansville

Stopped in for breakfast today. Been awhile since Iâ??ve been here. Got there right at opening. I had a short stack of pancakes with a side of sausage links. Got two huge (dinner plate size) pancakes and three links of sausage. It was delicious. I couldnâ??t eat it all, but took the rest home. My wife had a half order of biscuits & gravy. She loved it and ate every bit of it. Nothing but a clean plate when she was done. Service was very friendly and quick and kept my coffee cup full. I was in and out in a little over 1/2 hour. Price was very reasonable. I need to make sure it doesnâ??t take me so long to come back. I highly recommend for breakfast.

The Original Texas Toast – Menu with Prices – 603 Hearne Ave, San Antonio

-2 for the 20 minutes it took to get our food and the old fruit. BUT the good part the OTHER food and service. My girlfriend and I went this morning, the only 2 people that hour. So a 20 minute wait wasn’t ideal for an omelet, waffle and biscuits with gravy. The servers were attentive 5 servers for 2 people. I’d say losing money on labor but not my restaurant. Now the food: thank you for bring something different to the south side other than tacos. The waffle was nothing special, it tasted like a waffle. The biscuits and chorizo gravy was different but a good taste. IF you like sweet and spicy, as the biscuit was sweet. I didn’t eat it as im diabetic. My girlfriend had the house omelet. It was delicious slightly over cooked as they melted the cheese on top. It came with seasoned potatoes, fruit and toast. The potatoes were slightly greasy but flavorful. the toast was toasted inside the waffle maker making it soft and toasted, not a fan. ( no jelly offered) Last the fruit, horrible you will see in the picture. It screams old. Work out the little quirks and pay attention to detail. Btw, what’s with the blue liquid outside the door?

Broken Egg Family Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10843 W Park Pl, Milwaukee

13 August visit – First time here and totally impressed! Very clean restaurant (just opened I know, but still very clean), and the service was quick in taking my to go order. As I have written in my previous postings I do not usually give a five star rating after the first visit, however I am also on quest to find the best biscuits and gravy in the area, as well as the price point. Both hit the mark here on quality and cost. To accompany the biscuits and gravy, I ordered 2 eggs scrambled with cheese for about a dollar more and worth it as the eggs were done nicely. Now for the biscuits and gravy–Awesome!! It is your basic white sauce gravy but made from scratch, not to mention fluffy and not flat. There is a serious difference between a really good canned gravy and in house made gravy, you can taste it in this gravy. This was not a butter based roux gravy, but a sausage roux gravy which was a really good and a nice surprise, although I had to doctor it up with cracked black pepper to my liking. Additionally the biscuits were fresh and soft, I believe also in house made which again was a good find. Will we definitely be here for breakfast this weekend, you should check out this place. Update – 17 August visit As promised I returned for breakfast this weekend, and accompanied by my wife. Again the seating and attentiveness of the staff was awesome, and the price for two big breakfasts that turned into another meal this morning (18 Aug) came to $18 with tax, not shabby! My wife ordered the house skillet with over easy eggs on side and in house made bread for toast. I was jealous, it looked and tasted so good, next time that is my order. Again I ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled egg and cheddar cheese, as they were pretty good on Tuesday. This time however, the flour did not render all the way it was a little flour tasting. This was the case as I took home half the biscuits and gravy as I reheated the gravy this morning and you could still taste the flour initially. No matter, rewarmed the gravy up slowly (on low) and added half and half (which is cream and whole milk), a little beef bullion and a certain liquid gravy seasoning, and this eventually cooked out the flour taste. If do this yourself, separate the biscuits from the gravy while still warm at the restaurant, the biscuits will not soggy the next day. We will back as the prices are reasonable and the quality of the food and service are great. In the future I will re-order the biscuits and gravy, but after this visit I think I will try the skillets and the such. Again, this place is really good and you have to check it out!!

Big Al’s Deli – Menu with Prices – 1828 4th Ave N, Nashville

Big Al’s is a place that I want to selfishly put in an invisibility bubble so no one else knows about it and therefore it’s never that busy and I get to eat there whenever I want without any wait. Alas, I think that would make me a super villain and I do not posses the means to invest in restaurant cloaking technology, so I’m going to share this place with the world. You’re welcome. I went on a Saturday morning for breakfast, a little after opening. It was busy, but they had tables set up on the sidewalk that were open. It was a perfect mild morning, so I opted to sit outside. Coffee is self serve inside, so you help yourself. Service was prompt and friendly. This place has the familial feel mastered. Everyone was friendly and happy, but let’s talk about the food. The food is what I came for, right? I had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit with a side of hash browns. A bacon egg and cheese is really a simple concept, which Big Al’s nails all because of the delicious biscuit. This, good people of Yelp, is a biscuit, it’s fluffy yet dense with flavor. I didn’t see the biscuit being made, but I’m sure these are made the way grandma makes em, full of flavorful buttermilk and lard (again I didn’t see these being made, but you know the flavor of a good southern biscuit when you taste it). The hash browns were also good, full of flavor and more than I could possibly eat after the biscuit. Big Al’s is what I want out of a restaurant: good food, good staff, cheap prices. I felt like a regular when I walked in and will become one as a result of my visit.
