I love seafood, so coming here to eat is no question. I’ve been here several times now and it’s nice to have seafood places in Bakersfield. We need more spots just like this. We are close to the beach, but not close enough, so having restaurants that remind me of the beach is a nice addition to Bakersfield. The times I have come, it’s been pretty busy. The food is delicious, they give good portions and the shrimps they serve are huge. The food is made fresh to order and you can see the gentlemen in the back dropping the order in the fryer as you’re ordering. The place is new, so it’s really nice and clean. My favorite item has to be the seafood chowder, but the last time I visited I didn’t have very much seafood in the mixture, I hope that was just one time deal and that won’t stop me from coming for now. They give a huge order of French fries with whatever combo you choose and I can’t finish them, so that right there is telling you that they aren’t stingy with their food. They have a good variety of food here and the price is affordable. Most places that serve seafood usually crank up the prices, but this is what makes all of us come back. Parking is a little tight, in the parking area, so be careful and there’s a good amount of seating inside. I didn’t see tables that fit more than 4 people per table, so just a heads up if you do go.

Mariscos El Rey Menu with Prices 820 Dayton St, Aurora

Had been meaning to try one of their locations, finally got a chance being in the area, i had high expectations and they were nearly met. Firts off ordered fish tacos and even though i prefer spicier was nothing tapatio couldnt fix. Think the prices are reasonable and portions plentiful. I also ordered a campechana seca wich is a seafood melody. First the downsides: had to figure and put plenty of sauces and salt and peeper to my liking. At first the sauce seemed lime it didnt have much flavor and would be best if it was. Ot as runny so it stays on the food. I didnt get to really taste it until i was done with the seafood and it was not bad. However knowing you must fix it to your liking a phuge plus was the freshness of the seafood, it seemed it was prepared to order not premade, defi ately fresher than other places ive tried. Would suggest you give it a try. Not a huge or fancy but a nice mellow atmostphere. Think they can improve but doing good.

Central Fish Market – Menu with Prices – 401 Central Ave #2802, Jersey City

This is a great little local gem if you want some casual home cooked seafood. They have a huge menu of cooked food options, I actually didnt see any fish for sale. So I chose the fried combo seafood platter ($10) and broiled salmon with salad and rice. The portions were HUGE and delicious. The 2 ladies who were cooking were VERY nice. Literally it is like mom’s home cooking. The ambiance is very casual lile any fish market establishment. There is table seating there and soft drinks available for purchase. They will serve you at the table if you dine in. Overal a great CASUAL spot for a great seafood meal. I may recommend takout if you want ambiance, it’s not fancy, but the food is more than worth the trip.

Mariscos nuevo altata – Menu with Prices – 2151 E Main St, Stockton

I’m a big seafood snob. I grew up eating traditional fresh sinaloense seafood so yea I think I earned the snob title. Ok, so I get excited when a place claims to be Sinaloense, now this place mmm I don’t think it’s traditional as I like it but food is decent. Service is not the best, it has improved but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Service is usually slow, now food is made to order which I appreciate. However, at times I feel like the cook doesn’t follow the orders as they come in, more like what’s faster to get out the way which greatly irritates me!! As far as taste, well since I’m a seafood snob I’ve learned to not order “fresh” seafood. I order cooked because I feel like it’s easier to get flavor thru when it’s cooked. Cooked seafood is good, fresh is not. My husband loves fresh seafood and falls for the false “fresh” seafood advertisement only to be disappointed. With that being said I will give them props for carrying pata de mula at times that does taste pretty fresh and is only acquired in Northern Mexico. Their “fresh” scallops lack freshness and that sea taste I get in mexico. We don’t have lots of good Mexican seafood joints in town so we do keep coming back to this one. I give it 3 solid stars. It’s pretty much a whole in the wall in a sketchy side of town but we’ve never had any issues here. Parking lot and street parking is available. Also the ladies make fresh hand made corn tortillas A+ for that!!

The Original Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood – Menu with Prices – 9593 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach

One of thee BEST SEAFOOD places you will taste on the East coast! When coming to Myrtle Beach, SC- it is almost traditional to come to this restaurant- that is how good it is! I came here with family on a Saturday night and although it was packed, we managed to get a seat right away. Since there is plenty of parking, we did not have to drive around as the parking lot is HUGE! When walking in, there is a hostess at the door in a captain’s outfit that is waiting to greet you and show you to your seat. They will ask you if you’ve ever been there before and if you haven’t, they will give you a tour of the food that is being offered along with the prices of the buffet ($37.50 per person). Once seated, we were greeted by a young man named “Jake” (not from State Farm). Jake was very nice, professional and very attentive. He made sure to explain the prices, the fact that it was a buffet and he bought our drinks and utensils on time. Overall, he was an excellent waiter! In terms of the food- there was every kind of seafood being offered. Crab legs, shrimp, cod, flounder, oysters, stuffed mushrooms- you name it! The great thing about this is that it is all you can eat! The food was very fresh, warm and tasty! In all the years that we’ve come, I’ve never seen this restaurant empty and that is because the food and dining experience speaks for itself. Overall, this is a GREAT PLACE for people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you come here with your family, significant other or by yourself, this place makes you feel welcomed. Additionally, the food and dining experiences are both amazing- I would definitely come back!

The Royal Crab Calabash Seafood Buffet – Menu with Prices – 610 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach

Let’s start with the price. I read that it was 19.99 per person if you didn’t have crab legs, well it’s the “in season” so that doesn’t apply. Roughly 30 a person for anyone over 12. 6-12 was 19.99, and there were 7 of us.. luckily I found a coupon in one of the books for 4 dollars off each adult. Next- the service. There were three people standing at the front when we went in, the host and two servers. One server looks at the other and says ” I’m not waiting on that party” okay- whatever. The lady that served us was training someone else.. but they were very kind and attentive. I’m sure our server was happy to have our tip. Finally- the food. NOT worth 30 dollars a person. I went specifically for the seafood– I mean, I’m at the beach, no better place for seafood right? Wrong! I understand seafood is naturally salty, but it seemed like they poured lots of salt on top of that. They advertise over 100 items.. not even close. I didn’t try the crab legs, although I should have for the price.. so I can’t comment on those. The cheaper price is initially what drove me here, but I will not be returning.

Qwik Chek Deli & Catering – Menu with Prices – 2018 Clearview Pkwy, Metairie

This place is ok. It’s a like in hole the wall place. Looks like a neighborhood convienience store. Food is alright; a bit pricey for what they serve. We order a 12 inch shrimp poboy and large cheese fries to split. The cook behind the counter was nice enough to serve the poboys on seperate plates. The cheese fries was a very big portion. We only ate a third of that. My boyfriend didnt like that the poboy was served on sesame covered french bread. I didnt mind it too much. The shrimp were nice sized but this was definitely NOT overstuffed. The lettuce and tomato were shredded and diced and sparce. It just really wasnt anything worth bragging about. It was just… ok. We left out of there full but not satisfied. We contemplated on what better options we had with the money we just wasted on this place. We couldve split a kobe beef burger at cheesecake factory for probably the same price. Im not even crazy for cheesecake factory’s atmosphere. Well, lesson learned. Always gonna be hit or miss when trying new places. I always have high hopes for small mom and pop businesses but for the most part this was somewhat of a let down.

Cap’s On the Water – Menu with Prices – 4325 Myrtle St, St. Augustine

We are visiting St. Augustine and this was recommended by a friend who lives here, for seafood. It’s off the Intercoastal so it was nice to take a short drive along the beach and get away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist spots downtown. We pulled into the large parking lot for dinner, and were a little worried as we parked in the last row and walked up to the restaurant because there were so many cars and we figured we’d have a LONG wait. We actually got seated right away outside on the deck overlooking the beach! This place is giant with a huge staff of waiters and can accommodate so many diners and larger groups of people. The ambiance on the patio was so nice (if a little hot, we could have used some fans on the deck!). Service was wonderful. I got the Vanilla Grouper (got the Vanilla Rum Sauce on the side and glad I did – it was way too sweet for me), but the fish itself was perfection, lightly fried and served with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. Paired nicely with a cold glass of white wine! My husband got the fresh fish of the day, blackened Snapper and that was wonderful as well. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and you will want to dress up a little but so worth it for a nice dinner and the beach setting. As we were leaving, we also discovered that they have a playground on the beach of sorts made of driftwood that kids can climb on, that you can walk down to, and my son loved playing on it.

Seafoodlicious – Menu with Prices – 4435 Skidaway Rd, Savannah

OMG. Y’all, this place has some BOMB seafood. You have to give this place a try if you’re in the area. Seafoodlicious is a small hole-in-the-wall seafood market offering a variety of fresh seafood that you can purchase raw, boiled, or fried. This place has no seating to dine-in, it’s strictly takeout. But don’t let that keep you from stopping by, the food is well worth it. I’m so disappointed in myself for previously dining in at the tourist traps. Honestly, Seafoodlicious beats those places any day portion-wise, taste-wise, and price-wise. Not to mention I think this is where the locals come to get seafood. I came in an hour before closing, and a lot of people kept coming in to order food. That’s a good sign! When you come here, it helps if you come ready knowing what you want to order. The menu and set-up can be a little overwhelming for newcomers. If you don’t know what to get though, it’s okay. Once you come in you can place an order with any of the employees behind the counter and they’ll take your payment. Everything here is reasonably priced. Low country boils are $8.99 and you can get fried seafood for under $10. A lot of items on the menu are under $10. There’s a variety of seafood on ice presented in a glass case – so you can see the seafood right in front of you and choose what you want. Seafood includes small shrimp ($6.99 per lb), medium shrimp, and jumbo shrimp ($9.99 per lb), blue crab, snow crab, fish fillets (your choice of tilapia, swai, or whiting), catfish, whole fish (I can’t remember all but black sea bass was one of them. They serve very large whole fish as well), oysters, conch, squid, and crabmeat. They also serve cooked items like shrimp salad, crab pie, spicy conch, deviled crab, garlic crab, and fried crab. If you want raw seafood, you can just order what you want behind the glass case as is. If you want fried seafood, there is a selection of fried platters on the far left side of the menu. It comes with fries and your choice of dipping sauce. They use swai for the fried fish platter unless otherwise specified. While the fried seafood is tasty and satisfying, I would not go out of my way here for it. I highly recommend getting their low country boil, especially if you’re a newcomer. It’s such a good deal! The low country boil comes with small shrimp, two blue crabs, potatoes, corn, and 100% beef sausage. If you don’t want sausage they will offer to give you extra potatoes, which is nice. I have no idea what they use for seasoning but I guess it would be something along the lines of Cajun seasoning. Then they add garlic butter to it. They may ask if you want seasoning and garlic butter mixed in or if you’d like both on the side. I highly suggest having it all mixed in, the seafood absorbs the flavor better that way. Another option is to just order whatever you want behind the glass case and ask them to cook it. I think you can only either get it deep fried or boiled (if boiled they will add garlic butter and seasoning). My family of five ended up ordering 4 low country boils, one fried platter of fish and fries, one fried swai fish fillet, and one pound of boiled jumbo shrimp ($9.99 per lb), along with some soft drinks and sauces. It was A LOT of seafood and the grand total was $66 – not bad at all! The fried swai fillet yields two portions of fried fish. It was tasty and not greasy. The boiled jumbo shrimp and the low country boils were DELICIOUS. I think my eyes rolled to the back of my head when I took my first bite. Everything is seasoned so well. The corn is delicious and soaks up all that good seasoning. The beef sausage and potatoes were good too. I was shocked by the generous portions they gave us. They truly filled the container. With the potatoes, sausage, and corn, this makes for a really filling meal. None of us could finish our food. I think each container could easily be shared between two people. As for the sauces, additional sauces are 50 cen

Las Islas Marias – Menu with Prices – 7516 State Ave, Kansas City

This is my husband’s new favorite restaurant and he chose it for father’s day. While he has been there a number of times (I know this was at least the second time this week), I am not a huge seafood fan, so he usually went with other family members while in the area. However, they have a few non-seafood items and I got the tacos al pastor. Very good. The green sauce they serve with the ceviche before you arrive is pretty warm, so if you don’t like hot, use one of the bottled sauces. The second bowl was even hotter than the first. My family loved it. My husband has the whole snapper and ordered the largest portion so he could take some home. My oldest son had the pasta with a variety of seafood in an special sauce. My younger son had the langostinos. Both complimented the food repeatedly (their first time there also). Both said they’d return on their own. Service was excellent, liked the music although it got a little loud at one point. They kind of have a bottleneck at the cashier’s desk and it can get backed up. This is not a fancy place, but we weren’t looking for fancy; we just wanted good food. Good visit, and we’ll be back I’m sure.

Gus’s Hot Dog King – Menu with Prices – 10725 Jefferson Ave, Newport News

After hearing a few people raving about this place I thought I’d give it a try. Even though I’m not a huge fan of hot dogs it was something new to try after a fun day at the beach. I got a chili cheese hot dog and chili cheese fries. My first impression of the food based off presentation was excited but after my first bite I was less than satisfied. The chili was bland absolutely no flavor. It was so bland that I had to add tons of ketchup and mustard. The hot dog itself was delicious and a proper size. The chili cheese fries didn’t have as much toppings on them so I again added a few condiments and ate what I could. I didn’t like that there wasn’t a wider variety of drink choices basically lemonades and Pepsi. In the end I ate my food because I do not believe in waste and I got a drink from Burger King which is next door. In the end it was a new experience, close to the beach, reasonably priced and great fro a quick bite. Would I return? Probably not.

Direct Seafood Outlet – Menu with Prices – 1643 Cypress Ave, Melbourne

Jerry and his crew are amazing! This is a fun and friendly business that I frequent at about every 2 weeks or less to stock up and the seafood is very good – I am quite picky coming from San Francisco. My favorites are the Scottish Salmon, Scallops and Snow Crab Legs. Of course I have eaten many other tasty items that are also of high quality – this is my go to seafood shop and the prices are reasonable. I have tried seafood from around at different places and it doesn’t come close to the quality at Direct Seafood. If they weren’t here, I would not be eating much seafood since I haven’t been able to find quality outside of this place and I won’t eat it if it isn’t really good. This place gets packed on weekends and is out of control on holidays – its that good. The good news about that is that means the fish is always fresh! The stuff is flying out the door… I’m so glad when Jerry took this business over that he stayed committed to high quality seafood. He is great business man and his employees are so nice, very customer service oriented. I love this place. P.S. crab claws are tasty too.
