I was excited upon learning that Bakersfield was getting a Raising Cane’s as I visited one down in Lake Forest in Southern California. Of course, the hype for this place was INSANE upon opening, but it definitely has died down since then. This Cane’s tastes exactly like the other one I visited. The staff is very friendly and you can feel that Southern hospitality for sure! Now, on to the good stuff! The chicken strips here are some of the best I’ve ever had! So juicy and moist and moderately seasoned. Oh, and the Cane’s sauce is probably the reason why I keep coming here! O…M…G! It’s so delicious and I could just drink it! I can never get enough of it! One of the best and most addictive dipping sauces I have EVER tried at any restaurant, PERIOD! I also LOVE the little slices of Texas toast! So flavorful and they pair perfectly with the signature sauce! YUM! Now, onto something that knocks place a bit down is the fries. They are okay, but I have been here several times and they are either a little soggy or way under seasoned. I have been to this location about 6 or 7 times and the fries are not consistent. However, they are still edible and dipping them in the Cane’s makes them taste way better, so that’s still a positive! I will end the review by saying that I still enjoy Cane’s despite the passable fries and will come here if I crave chicken strips! Oh, and the late night hours on Friday and Saturday make it a great late dinner spot! They close at 3:30 AM and you can dine in! You really can’t go wrong here! I highly prefer this over Chick Fil-A for sure! Recommended!

Slim Chickens Menu with Prices 8170 W I-40 Frontage Rd, Amarillo

Really delicious! I didn’t know that this place had even opened. Went here for dinner and it wasn’t too busy. We were able to find seating in the little patio. It’s a little noisy since the restaurant is adjacent to the freeway but it’s nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. I ordered the meal with the 4 piece chicken strips. It comes with fries and a drink. I also tried the Mac and cheese. The chicken strips were great. They’re not too extremely crispy and the breading is light. The fries were delicious and they even have ranch seasoning that you can put on them. For my drink I got a lemonade and it was great! The Mac and cheese was one of the best I’ve had from a fast food restaurant. You get to choose as many dipping sauces as you want for your chicken strips. I got the ranch, spicy bbq, and buffalo. My favorite was the spicy bbq. The ranch is good quality ranch.

Black Rock Bar and Grill – Menu with Prices – 6200 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale

We visited on Saturday for lunch just as they opened at 11am. The doors were still locked and they opened 5-6 minutes late. All the tables still had chairs up and appeared nobody showed up early to open. We probably should have gone elsewhere This is the old TGI Friday’s location. We ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken to share as our appetizer. It was delicious and the dressing was very good. The Parmesan chip was a little chewy (old) but everything else appeared fresh and just made. My wife tried the Crab-cake sandwich and it was heavily seasoned with Old Bay seasoning. It appeared to have a good amount of crab. She would not reorder it in the future. It was a wasted with tooooo much seasoning. I ordered the MOAS, mother of all sandwiches, which was a cheesesteak and chimichanga mixed together. It was hot, full of steak, and very delicious. The included dipping sauce was too spicy overall. They only offer fries and would not substitute anything, even basic coleslaw. (Not cool) Our server was not the best with checking back. We had water glasses needing refill twice long before she arrived. She also never returned to check on entree nor provide a different dipping sauce. She had no other clients in restaurant. The men’s bathroom was utterly disgusting and it needed immediate attention as an employee clearly failed to pickup even so early in the day. — have you ever seen actual towels used as a seat protector ?? We asked to see a manager and told they don’t come in until late on Saturday. Nobody in leadership during working hours seemed quite strange. The corporation also failed to respond to an email and social media contact to review. 3-stars would-be quite generous and ONLY because food was good overall, the followup and restaurant needs a complete improvement or stop lunch service altogether.

Bonchon – Downtown Greensboro – Menu with Prices – 607 S Elm St, Greensboro

Bonchon is DEFINITELY a place you’re going to want to MONCH-ON next time you’re in downtown Greensboro! They are serving up some really delicious Asian fusion style dishes, and most notably, some of the better fried chicken I have ever had (that says a lot as a born and raised southerner)! My wife and I tried it tonight, and I just had to go home and write my review while the flavor was still fresh in my mouth. We had a variety of things from the menu… a small (10 full size tenders!) order of chicken tenders halved between their sweet sauce and their soy garlic sauce, an order of parmesan seasoned fries, and also a plate of bulgogi fried rice. The chicken definitely seems to be the star of the show here, and I can see why. Each piece was tender and moist with a great crunchy batter surrounding it. The soy garlic sauce was the better of the two, I was hoping for a little more pop from the crunchy sweet variety, but it was really good dipped in Sriracha! The bulgogi beef fried rice really exceeded our expectations, awesome tender strips of beef mixed up in deliciously spiced rice and a really good portion of it as well. The seasoned fries were nice and crispy and were another good thing to dip in the Sriracha, i personally would like even more Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, but it was very good as is. We will definitely come back to Bonchon again and try some more of the great variety of dishes!

Flavor Wings & Fries – Menu with Prices – 10911 N Western Ave, Oklahoma City

Came in for a quick bite at this takeout only urban wing spot, complete with security window to order at. Service was friendly. Fried chicken wings are big here, with a nicely seasoned crunchy black pepper-heavy crust. Our batch was a bit overcooked which made some bits on the edges rock hard. Chicken inside not especially juicy but was tender. No sauce was offered which surprised me. And no sliced white bread. Fries are thick cut as you’d expect with Chicago-style, came with ketchup. They sell a sauce for the fries, 50 cents a cup. It’s tasty stuff, like Raising Cane’s sauce but with liquid smoke added. If they added chicken strips to the menu it would be the perfect dip (hint, hint). With so many fried chicken places a short drive away it’s a tough sell without a honey drizzle or some interesting sauce smothered on ’em. But the seasoning is definitely nice, good enough to bring me back in.

Southern Classic Chicken – Menu with Prices – 411 S Glenwood Blvd, Tyler

Ok yall. I’m a little heated. I usually try to clear my head and think rationally before posting yelp reviews for the world to see, but I went into going to Southern Classic Chicken KNOWING I’d end up leaving a yelp review if “this” happened. And it happened. I work 12 hour shifts. I had a crappy half blah lunch today, and I’ve been craving some fried chicken. Sure there’s a BRAND NEW Louisana Fried Chicken that JUST opened up like 1/2 a mile down the road, but, I’ve been to Southern before. They messed up last time. I wanted to give them a chance to atone for their mistake. I was on the phone as I was pulling up to the window to pay for my Jumbo Combo. I gave the girl at the window my card, she gives the card back. She hands me my sweet tea. I put it in my cup holder. She hands me my bag of food. I say “Is there hot sauce in here? I love that hot sauce.” She says “Yes there is.” I drive home. I let my dogs out (they didn’t pee in the house after being home alone for 12 hours, amazed, double treats for them tonight). I open my bag of food. I pull out napkins. I pull out my box of food. I pull out 5 packets of ketchup. I open my box of food. THERE’S NOTHING LEFT TO PULL OUT, YALL. DO YOU GET IT? THEY FORGOT MY HOT SAUCE. No. Nononononononono, they didn’t forget it. THEY LIED TO ME ABOUT IT. Last time I went, they forgot it. If you’re not giving hot sauce automatically with your fried chicken, you’re mishandling your business. EVERYONE wants the hot sauce. THIS GIRL LIED TO ME. I was literally on the phone with my dude and said they didn’t give me hot sauce last time, AND THEY DIDN’T GIVE ME HOT SAUCE AGAIN. Now I am scrambling around the house. I have this fried chicken, and no hot sauce. The fries in this meal look miserable. They’re quite clearly all separate fries, but they’re all mushed together. They look like what a block of toy french fries would look like, because they’re in 1 solid glob. They don’t taste good. They’re cold. I NEED HOT SAUCE TO RESCUE THIS MEAL. They didn’t give me any, and now I am scrambling. SOMEHOW I am out of hot sauce in the bottle at home too. I look in the furthest reaches of my sauce drawer and find TWO packets of Schotzsky’s hot sauce. That’s all I have to eat with my fried chicken. I’m never going back. Never. I mean, you can forget some sauce once. But you lied to me and told me there was hot sauce after I asked. I’m not really this mad about the hot sauce, this is supposed to be a funny review. However, it is all TRUE. I specifically asked, they lied, and I’m never going back. And i’m buying more backup hot sauce. I’m about to go looking for other reviews about folks not getting their hot sauce. ANY fried chicken without hot sauce 2/5 Being lied to about hot sauce 1/5 Sweet tea Doesn’tMatterEnough/5 Overall: 1/5 Nope.

Fried Tomato Buffet – Menu with Prices – 6561 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery

There’s nothing wrong with Fried Tomato Buffet. It’s just not a wow experience. There are better places for southern cooking in the area and there are worse. This is just middle of the road southern fare. Everything is well cooked, the restaurant is usually decently clean and the servers are very nice. The food is just not seasoned and sometimes the selections are just lacking…I’d like to see more of a variety of desserts. For a buffet, there are just not a lot of options at times. The fried green tomatoes are great and so is the fresh, hot buttered rolls. I also really like their salad bar, it’s nice to see a lot of vegetarian options there. To their credit, there is hot sauce and pepper sauce on every table to get the seasoning to your liking. The price for a drink and meal is just right, and this place is just fine….just no wow.

Cluck Chicken at The Dive Inn – Menu with Prices – 1380 S Broadway, Denver

Overall good southern style chicken tenders for what is available in Denver. The price is a bit much for just a basket of tenders, and the breading doesn’t hold to the chicken super great, while it is great that it isn’t super heavy, but the chicken is tender for sure and is nice size strips. Really nice staff to boot. I will super thumbs up another Yelper’s comment that these don’t taste like old fryer oil which is a big plus. Don’t miss out on the signature sauce! You aren’t at a dive bar for your health, so might as well enjoy good friend chicken?!?!!

Molly Brown’s LLC Menu with Prices 493 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron

This is a cute little diner in a small strip mall. We arrived for lunch and got to choose our own seat. There were 4 of us and the booth was a little small as we forget how the kids have grown. Our server took our drink orders quickly and returned for our food order. One child got the children’s chicken strips and fries and the other got the adult portion of country fried chicken. My husband got the senior pancakes and sausage and I got the pastrami on rye. The chicken strips were a hit, as were the fries. The country fried chicken was large with lots of gravy and mashed potatoes. He isn’t a vegetable kid, but there were loads of mixed vegetables on his plate. He thoroughly enjoyed it. My husbands’ senior portion was also large. The pancakes were good as was the sausage. Then came my pastrami. It was so tough and chewy and actually pretty scant. I didn’t like it at all as it was too hard to chew. The fries were good. Three out of four good meals isn’t bad. Next time I would order something different and think I would have a better outcome.

Axes & Allies – Menu with Prices – 1122 S 3rd St, Wilmington

I am so disappointed. We came here 2 months ago and were blown away by the workers, owner and atmosphere. I told everyone they needed to come see first hand. Tonight a different story and it saddens me to write this post. I am all for local establishments!!! Tonight we had reservations at a restaurant and knew we would be running late- I called 6 different times starting at 7:24 PM, our reservations were for 8:45 PM. No one answered the 6 times and I left a voicemail. We showed up at 9:00 PM. No one was at the desk. At 9:02 PM owner came out of bathroom and said we were late, that our reservations had been given up because we were 15 minutes late. Obviously they had been given up before then because we were there right at 9:00 PM. Yes we were late, but how it was handle was very unprofessional and I was told “don’t know what to tell you.” Just hurts, only have ever said good things about the place and the owner was a doll the first time we visited. Never will we go back. And honestly will never recommend to a friend.

Mon Ami Cafe Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 14291 Euclid St D116, Garden Grove

NOTE: Cash only Such a cute place. It’s like dining on the streets of Paris with the backdrops and railings. I like that this place is clean and has plenty of parking. Each table has an organized utensil bin consisting of chop sticks, forks, spoons, and dipping trays. We got complimentary garlic bread as starters and ordered Bo Ne which is like an inexpensive version of steak and eggs on a sizzling fajita skillet. Each one comes with one roll of French bread for dipping and a side of Caesar salad with no dressing. Another way to describe Bo Ne is like country fried steak with gravy. The steak was soft and chewy, not recommended for old folks with dentures.                                          -Deep fried hen served with red rice, topped with an over easy egg, bowl of broth, pickled veggies with a side of green (cilantro lime) and red dipping sauce (sweet and tangy). This dish came out last. The chicken was dry in the inside but the dipping sauce helped as well as the broth. -Bo Ne with mushroom wine sauce – creamy. -Bo Ne with pate sauce – more creamy than the mushroom sauce -French Fries – First time I’ve seen French Fries at a Vietnamese restaurant. I guess it fits the theme of dining in France! -Rau Ma (Pennywort) – I ordered Rau Ma dau xanh (mung bean) but they probably only heard the first part. I didn’t bother to complain because it was pretty and the Rau ma was refreshing. I liked that they were careful on the sugar and left it kind of bland for you to pour more in if you want. -Fish sauce wings – The wings could be a bit crispier. It came with the same green sauce and a yellow sauce. The yellow was like a mustard.

Better with bread – Menu with Prices – E 6th St &, N Tustin Ave, Santa Ana

Chorizo it! I didn’t order anything here with their bread, but all the items I did have surpassed all expectations! In this carbo scared environment, I’m all with Better With Bread for boldly proclaiming truth… Meals are better with bread. If you can’t tell already, I’m a bread lover (just don’t give me plain white bread!). Quesadilla with Chorizo – One of the best quesadillas I’ve had in recent memory, impressing me with its hot-off-the-grill stay crisp tortilla outside and a good blend of cheese, crumbled chorizo and jalapenos inside. I had one slice, then didn’t have my last triangle until 15 minutes later. The lightly crisp outside stayed that way throughout because they didn’t overcheese the inside, avoiding an ooey, goey, oily mess. Their chorizo has a little spiciness but the overall intense flavor carries it and balances out everything else inside the quesadilla. Chicken Strips, Mozzarella Sticks and Fries Sampler – First bite I noticed that the chicken strips and mozzarella sticks had a crunchy but airy outer breading that were better than what I have in most restaurants. I don’t know if it was the fresh frying oil or something else, but these did not feel heavy or taste oily. They were really light and that’s a great thing. The chicken is one large, thin cut breast that is breaded and fried as a whole then cut into 5 inch strips. Their fries are fresh cut, medium thickness, with skin edges. The plate comes with BBQ sauce, cocktail sauce, ketchup and ranch. The one dish I didn’t get to try but is next on my hit list is their Chorizo Pizza Bagel. Two toasted bagel halves, covered with red sauce, cheese and crumbled chorizo. The quality and freshness at Better with Bread is top tier. I went in expecting average and I left wanting to eat more (if my stomach wasn’t already full!). Highly recommended, I’ll definitely be having more when I’m in the area.

Donahoo’s Golden Chicken – Menu with Prices – 1117 N Grove Ave, Ontario

Long time customer, extremely disappointed. I have been going to Donahoo’s Golden Chicken in Ontario since we moved to town over 15 years ago. It has always been my favorite go to, friend chicken place. Nothing compares! No Popeyes, kfc, Canes, nothing. A few weeks ago I was really craving some friend chicken, it had been a while, and I had planned on picking up dinner on my way home. I called to place a phone order at 6:45, but the phone just rang and rang. I called 4 times with no answer as I headed over to the restaurant. Once I got there it was a few minutes before 7pm, online they state they close at 7:30pm. When I walked in there were two young girls working, they didn’t even look up at me. I finally said, “hi, you guys take debit now right?” They said “no, sorry, and we aren’t taking orders anymore” I asked why and they said they stop taking orders at 7pm … it was now 7:01… I was confused. I asked why no one answered at 6:45 when I called to place an order and they had no response. They said they didn’t have any batter left and they couldn’t make any more food that day. I have really noticed a change on service from years ago when the husband and wife used to run the business. The quality of food is the same but service is equally as important. If you don’t have a reputation for food service doesn’t matter how great tour food is, I’ll go to Canes where they want my business. It’s to bad because I LOVE the food and used to really like the owners who were really involved. You guys should really conceder changing your posted hours to 6:30pm if you won’t be serving people any later.
