Hi all. I ate here for the first time yesterday with a friend for her birthday. Her first “shabu experience” wasn’t great so we were hopeful for this place to redeem shabu in her eyes. ? Well – this wasn’t much better. While our waitress was nice – service was super super slow – I was never even offered a soft drink or even a refill on the one ice water I was served. After about a 20 minute wait – we got the crab rangoon appetizer we had ordered. Please – do not order these – they were terrible! The waitress admitted that they are frozen… they were way overcooked on the outside but cold and runny in the middle. No crab at all just runny cheese (?) and super salty. I will say that when we told the waitress she didn’t seem surprised by our complaint at all – but at least she did remove them from the bill. We both got the shrimp and salmon… and the shrimp were not completely de-veined! Only the top vein was removed. The bottom one and the poo sacs were all still in there. I know our waitress walked past and saw us picking the veins out by hand – which was gross. When she finally came around we had to ask for extra napkins – and she saw the nasty pile of veins we had picked out. My friend was almost too grossed out to even eat hers. I asked the waitress if she would have eaten them like that and she said “no way – that’s gross!” Jeez – you think?? So I got to pay like $27 or so (It might have been more – I forget the price) to pick veins and poo out of frozen shrimp by hand. LUCKILY – once the veins were out – and all the stuff was cooked up (also very disappointed they don’t offer a vegetarian based broth like my favorite shabu place in Santa Ana – Kaizen – which is always top notch!!) – then it was fine. The veggies were fresh and it all tasted good. Also disappointed they didn’t offer shiitake mushrooms as one of the veggie choices. I do like the enokitaki mushrooms – but shiitake are much more appealing for that kind of soup. Anyways – I would maybe try it again someday and just not get an appetizer (I read the calamari is no good either from some other reviews) and make sure to tell my waiter/waitress to have the kitchen de-vein the shrimp properly this time. Thanks for reading. Hope y’all have a good experience there. ?

Oyster Cave at China Bar – Menu with Prices – 133-48 37th Avenue, Flushing

Went here for dinner on a friday night, I’ve been craving for shabu shabu and checked yelp for any recommendations near me and saw the reviews not a lot but they’re all good reviews. bougt a coupon from restaurant.com when we got there no one’s even around, the place is empty. We both ordered our own sets we got the mixed sea food. The waitress doesn’t speak much english but she is very friendly, we’re halfway through our meal (which are all frozen seafood) and we asked her where the noodles and the vegetable cause the menu says it comes with it, she was pointing that we have to order on the different page of the menu, but i pointed out that the set comes with it, i’ve only had one shabu shabu before this and it was in Elmhurst it came with a lot of vegetables and noodles. What we got from here is a few pieces of chinese cabbage, a tiny portion of a corn, 2 pcs of fish balls, 3 tofus, few mushrooms, and noodles that’s not even enough for one. Since this is an oyster bar we ordered oysters, what we wanted was fresh oysters but what she gave us are oysters that’s for the shabu shabu. There is only one person working around the place, when we were about to pay i gave her the coupon, and another lady came to whom the server gave the coupon to, it took them awhile to get back to us. i don’t know why they started arguing, but I’m not planning on returning again. The bill came to $44, with the coupon we have to pay $29. Still not worth it I rather pay regular price anytime on other restaurants. The food wasn’t that bad, but I was hoping for a better service and bigger portions since the price is on the higher side, should have eaten to other places near this that have more reliable reviews.

Shabushabu Mayumon – Menu with Prices – 115 Division St, New York

I absolutely love the concept of Shabu shabu omakase and appreciate the different take Chef Mayu has on foods that we are familiar with. The food is creative and very tasty and she uses different cooking techniques that really showcases different cultures. Every ingredient used is incredibly fresh and there is a lot of thought put into the menu. I’ve tried their omakase during their pop up and came recently during their soft opening and was really happy with how their menu has transformed into something even more refined and special. The appetizers are delicious and I especially loved the shrimp caviar with the usage of yuzu. It was so well balanced and the yuzu really brightened up my palate. The shabu shabu is of course the star of the meal and it certainly does not disappoint. The Miyazaki beef is absolutely amazing and melt in your mouth. Each of the sauces the meats are dipped in really brings out the flavor of the ingredients which are all made in house. Aside from the shabu shabu the clay pot rice is another of my favorites and is a delicious pairing of mustard leaf and baby sardines with fluffy rice and a creamy poached egg. The combination is just out of this world. I highly recommend this place and it really is a great experience. Service is wonderful and food is even better!

Oseyo Shabu Shabu – Menu with Prices – 2879 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena

Found this shabu shabu place and based off the yelp reviews I ended up dining here. First off, the parking lot is tiny. 1/4 of the parking lot is dedicated to the liquor store and the rest is a free for all unless you park on the street. Second, the placement of the burners are a little weird. You have your traditional tables and the bar… but there’s also these two separate islands where they face each other. It’s kinda weird. To the shabu shabu – I ordered a sukiyaki base with a large angus prime beef which is considered the leanest beef. The beef was great quality. The base however was very very light – almost bland. Also the sauces that accompany every shabu shabu is sesame and ponzu. The sesame sauce was way off point and it tasted like mayonnaise with a touch of sesame. Also, the assortment of vegetables was plenty BUT there was no refill on vegetables except for ONE refill on the cabbage. Someone else in my party also ordered a bulgogi bibimbap. It was average and the bulgogi was also very lightly marinated. Overall, between the light/bland food, $16 lunch price, lack of vegetable refill, and off tasting sesame sauce, I wouldn’t come here again. If you’re in the mood for shabu shabu, better options are out there – travel a little bit further to Tokyo Shabu Shabu on Lake or farther to AYCE shabu shabu in Rowland Heights (mo-mo paradise).

Shogun J. R Express – Menu with Prices – 700 S Reilly Rd, Fayetteville

Finally a place that can replace the old Bento! The food is super yummy and at a pretty affordable price. We ordered the crab Rangoon’s & 3 for $12 rolls (king crab, crab tempura, & shrimp tempura). The king crab was soooo yummy. Shrimp tempura was good as well. I didn’t really care for the crab tempura. Mainly because I don’t like when the imitation crab is a whole stick. We also got the hibachi filet & chicken and filet & shrimp. The portion size was decent, but there’s a lot of rice compared to the protein. The only 2 meh things about this place is that we ordered our steaks medium and got well done :/ & the music is super depressing lol I’m talking Bruno Mars and Adele depressing lol other than that it was a pleasant lunch date & we will definitely be returning

Fresh Smoothies & Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2450 Creston Ave, The Bronx

I would like to think it was because I came in 15 min to closing but that shouldnt change the attitude that you have towards the customer. I walked in and the ladies were talking they looked at me and continued talking. Very disrespectful didnt get greeted or anything, so I said excuse me and asked for what I wanted. Then I told her ill buy an orange juice aswell only for the simple fact that I wanted to see the machine working she stated that the machine is off and the juice was premade that defeated the purpose of wanting the juice so I didnt get it, but They have a lil process that’s done to meet customers satisfaction they serve you an ounce or 2 of w.e. smoothie you ordered to taste for perfection incase you want to add anything or change anything but as I get my sample the lady started to pour it in the cup, didnt wait for my opinion. It wasnt as cold as I would have wanted it to be but didnt wanna start anything I just said it was fine. The one moping gets mad because my boots were dirty she told me to stand by the door and the other lady tells me to come over to the cashier to pay and the one mopping gets mad. I just think for a first time experience on a Friday night it should have been a little better.. I’ll come again another time maybe I’ll change my rating but as of now very disappointed

Versaggi Shrimp Co – Menu with Prices – 2633 Causeway Blvd, Tampa

There is nothing better than being able to go down to the water where the shrimp boats come in and be able to buy shrimp right there! Last week we went to Superior Seafood but didn’t buy anything because the smallest amount you could buy was 5lbs. Way too much for two seniors like us. But here they had 2lb bags of shrimp, perfect. The cost for 21/25 shrimp was $10 a lb. the size was perfect for the Pasta Primavera hubby made for dinner. The shrimp here is flash frozen on the ship as they are caught, so technically they are not fresh, even though they insist they are fresh. I must admit they had a nice snap when you bit into them. No fishy taste at all, no odor, very good. This is a cash only establishment so be prepared for that. They also have crab claws, super jumbo size for $105 for a 5lb box. They also had lobster tails and scallops, all frozen. No fish. I love buying seafood like this, right off the boats. It was a common occurrence when I lived in RI. Live lobsters right off the boats…. for cheap!! Sure do miss that. If you are a shrimp lover, this is the place for you. Nothing fancy, just a warehouse of shrimp. But you will learn a ton from the gentleman there, and it’s awesome to see someone so proud of his work! Give them a try!!

Laughing Crab – Menu with Prices – 7511 Youree Dr, Shreveport

I was visiting Shreveport today and saw a commercial about this place. I should have gone to Shane’s. Everything about this place sucks. Upon arrival we waited to be seated but there wasnt a host to seat us. There was a lady that hollered from across the restaurant and pointed where we should sit. As we were seated, the waitress approached the table and and wasnt very knowledgeable about prices or the food being sold. On Sundays they offer happy hour all day. I chose a margarita, but they charge an extra $1 if you want a flavored margarita otherwise you just get a regular margarita. Because you have the option of choosing your flavor for the seafood, I asked the waitress do they cook the seafood in the flavor and her response was yes. So we ordered a K1, snow crab boil, lemon pepper and buffalo wings. The seafood had seasoning on top of it, but the food was bland and was not cooked in the seasoning. The shrimps were overcooked. The wings were fried hard and they were dark. They were big and as they cooled down, they became tough. My date and I got sick after eating at this place. I will never visit this place again. They are too expensive for mediocre food and service.

Azuls Taco House – Menu with Prices – 1142 Edgewater St NW, Salem

Very underwhelming. I wouldnt call these authentic, only because I spend a great deal of time in Mexico (about every 6 weeks) and they arent even close. I could see how those who arent familer would call these “street tacos”. I Ordered the shrimp tacos. Tortilla is great and shrimp were cooked nice but wasnt very good. The shrimp is cooked in a style that I would put on a Po’boy, not in a taco. Cabbage “filler” needs some flavor, specifically a little cilantro and onions, maybe a sauce in with it. It had diced tomato that didnt add flavor and were mushy. Didn’t care for chipotle aioli sauce that came on shrimp. Ordered a side of chips and salsa and were served a tiny side of completly stale tostitos style chips and a cilantro tasting salsa that wasnt very good either. We thought it was a free sample till we realized that was the chip order. I would say slightly embarrassed that is what they are offering. I appreciate what they’re attempting but I have had better at various taco trucks around town.

Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar – Menu with Prices – 2116 Skibo Rd, Fayetteville

Fried pickles: The fried pickles were good. Coating was crunchy and seasoned well. There was no soggy ness. It came with a good tangy dipping sauce. I rate this a 7/10 Shrimp corn soup: This was tasty flavor wise of the soup altogether, but the shrimp in this soup was definitely low quality. Mini frozen shrimp from a bag. It should’ve just been corn soup instead of messing it up with the bad shrimp. I got the cup of soup which was $4.99 and they surely put one cup of soup in a gigantic bowl which looked like completely nothing. I give this dish 5/10 Bang bang shrimp: The breading was thick and had measly baby shrimp inside. The sauce was okay I wouldn’t get again. I give this a 4/10 Mixed drink: This was the highlight of coming here. I can’t remember the name of my drink but it was packing. I rate it 8/10 Fried doughnut: The crust was crispy but the middle was extremely doughy it was unbearable to even eat. If cooked longer would have been amazing. Due to the raw dough I give this 4/10 All in all I would come back here to get drinks and maybe one appetizer (pickles) but definitely not my dinner. The waitress was awesome I must say she went above and beyond for us. Spent around $50 and was quite disappointed and still hungry.

Maria’s Sweet Deli – Menu with Prices – 149 South St A, Newark

Horrible experience!! I called to make a couple of orders for my coworkers to be delivered and the person taking the orders didnt understand the order. The 1st order was an omelet with onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms and cheese. The second order was grits with cheese and 3rd order of cheese grits with scramble egg and cheese and turkey bacon as a platter. I asked for prices and they were charging me 6.00 for a veggie omelet by its self (which i didnt order) and the omelet with the ingredients that I mentioned before. I started to explain to the person on the other and of the phone that it wasnt correct and it seemed they slammed the phone on their counter and was yelling at a different person and told them to get on the phone to take the order right so im getting upset because this is happening and 30 minutes already passed and they had to take my order again but the coworkers were upset that these people were being unprofessional and started to cancel their orders. They need better

Undisputed Craft House – Menu with Prices – 1881 Saul Kleinfeld Dr, El Paso

I had read about this place so i was anxious to check it out. I finally did last night…was kinda disappointed. I was given a beer menu that was January’s….then another one for February. Im guessing the beers keep changing because they didnt have the one I picked for January’s menu. Had a young girl that wasnt too helpful in helping me in picking the beers. I asked her what i mostly drank and wanted to see was similar to my choices…she had no answer. She wasnt rude, but not helpful… When I walked in I noticed that the place was too lit. Thought it was bar not a Barnes n Nobles. The crowd seemed pretty chill and the music playing had variety which was a plus. Not a bad place but was expecting a lottle more.

Saint James Seafood – Menu with Prices – 806 W Main St, Durham

I REALLY wanted to like St. Jame’s Seafood; so much so that I gave it 4 tries! I go to Durham every week & this restaurant is in a very good location. I’ve tried the Blue Crab Claws twice; they tasted different each time & the sauce that they were in wasn’t particularly tasty. The crab meat, itself, was good but certainly not worth $14 for a small appetizer! I’ve had the flounder as an entrée & it was very over-cooked. Also, I’ve had the Calabash Shrimp & Scallops. The scallops were tough & had a lot of excess fried breading. The shrimp were very over-cooked & I could see the dirty veins through the breading. The Calabash shrimp & scallops weren’t drained after cooking & the breading was peeling off with dripping grease. The steamed mussels and clams are undercooked & the “Chef” refused to steam them any longer as, “It would destroy their taste & texture.” Although I only ate half of a mussel & half of a clam, when I complained to the Waitress & the Manager, they would not take the charge off of my bill. (I wound up taking them home, cooking them until they were done, and feeding them to my dogs.) The Calabash platters come with fries seasoned with Old Bay. You can order them without the seasoning, but they taste suspiciously of fried chicken. And they are so greasy that the oil soaks through the paper in the plastic basket. The mixed drinks are good but formidably priced. They recently changed the $2.95 soft drinks from a 12-oz can to an 8-oz (2 swallows!) bottle…not nearly enough to accompany a meal! As far as the rest of the menu goes: a lot of dishes have unusual sauces, peppers, etc. There are NO substitutes! Everything is pre-marinated and prepared, so your preferences will NOT be honored, even if (for instance) you can’t eat hot peppers. The kitchen won’t remove the offending ingredients, or accommodate your needs. They are EXTREMELY inflexible! I’ve wasted a lot of money here for substandard food & service. I really expected a lot more from such a beautifully decorated, expensive restaurant! But, the only positive things that I can say are that, beyond the nice atmosphere, they have free matchbooks & parking. I will never go back.
