I came into this place in the middle of the week on a very slow night. There is a lot of black and red, this place is huge inside. There are a lot of tables, and there are booths along one wall. We seated ourselves and they appeared with chips and salsa and took our drink order. The chips were thick and hard, the kind that scratch and cut the roof of your mouth, while the salsa was OK, it certainly brings with it the heat. I had the whole fried fish, while the wife opted for a shrimp dish that involved two long skewers of shrimp with veggies. We both had a small “salad” beans and rice. Beans and rice was OK, the “salad” a bagged product, inferior, but that’s OK. The food was good, we did not waste any, it was really good. If this review were focused on the food they would have four well earned stars from us. The waiter did not check on us, when we finished we went up to pay. They ran our CC, I added the tip at the tip line, totaled it out and signed the customer copy. Gave it to the employee, who takes my receipt and starts working with the CC machine. I talked to him several times to find out what he was doing (it appeared he was running the charges again), and he ignored me. Over and over I asked what he was doing, he would not answer me. At that point I told him to credit my CC card and void the transaction. At that point I pulled out cash with which to pay. The employee did not want to void the transaction, he had a couple of other people (security and the owner or manager?) come to tell me I was making trouble where there was none. They insisted the Void was not necessary, and urged me to leave it alone, let it be. I have used credit cards for over 30 years in at least 30 states and three countries, and I have always added the tip, totaled the amount and signed the “customer copy” as have EVERYONE who is reading this who has used CC in a restaurant. So I am not the problem. I am unsure what they were up to, if it was or was not sketchy. But of this I am sure= I won’t go back, too much bullshit. Too many other places to eat with common practices at the register. If you are reading this and want to try it, please please do yourself a favor and pay cash.

TaFino Restaurant & Lounge – Menu with Prices – 370 Valley St, Providence

Sadly there isn’t a less than 1 star rating. Their service is horrible. They take too long to bring your food. We went with 3 small children and it took them 45mins to bring us food. The bill total $155 AFTER we signed the bill came to $165. When we asked the “owner” why that was he claimed the Apple Square charged us $10 for the transaction, he claims the waitress explained the $10 fee and that ALL apple squares charge that fee. Well I have a Square for my business and use apple Squares all the time and I have NEVER been charged $10 on any transaction. He refused to compensate us for the additional charge, claiming nothing he could do, that we should have looked at total before signing. Apparently explaining to him that we had looked at the total and it never said $165 until AFTER we signed was not enough.

El Sol Mexican Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 500 9th St # K, Modesto

Thought we’d try this spot after reading the reviews. Hmmmm, no bueno. The owner (?) was nice enough, but the food was bland and tasteless. I had shrimp in a cream sauce with rice and beans. No flavor. Husband had asada fajitas. Again, no flavor. Wine margarita was ok. Chips and salsa, ok. We’ve been experimenting, going to different Mexican food places, trying to find something different than our usual La Parilla in Riverbank. Guess we’ll keep looking. So far Tesoro’s on Tully has been our favorite new find!!

Painted Taco – Menu with Prices – 222 Rosemont Garden, Lexington

Great Vibe, Good Margaritas, So-So food. The vibe and theme of Painted Taco is what drew me in. I had seen the building while driving through the area and made a point to come when they opened. Of course we ordered margaritas, which did not disappoint. I would come back for the margaritas. The food was nothing special. The names of the tacos were fun. I had mine “painted” with queso. The tacos were decent too, but slightly overpriced. I was surprised tacos were $3.99 each. But the real reason this score is not higher is the chips and salsa. The chips were not fresh, some were cold. The salsa was not good. If you are going to serve tacos etc,you have to have good chips and salsa. My friend, a vegetarian, had limited options, since one of the products was not available yet. We were surprised there were no bean tacos – a simple vegetarian ingredient or that beans were not listed under BYO taco. Also to note the tip screen when paying for your food starts at a tip of 20%. I anticipate Painted Taco will get less tips this way, unless they change the screen to include 10%, 15% options – unless your goal is to get cash tips instead. But who carries cash these days?? I’m excited for this new place and I’ll be back for the margaritas and tacos, but not the chips & salsa.

Mariscos La Playa – Menu with Prices – 537 W Cordova Rd, Santa Fe

Walked into this small to medium sized restaurant after thrift shopping. They serve you chips with refried beans, green salsa, and pico de gallo. I had the Tostadas Ceviche combo, you get 3 tostadas with shrimp/ fish ceviche with mayo on the bottom and topped with avocado, purple onion and a side of wedge fries with white rice. This was absolutely delicious! Extremely light and refreshing. Didn’t eat the white rice (not my preference) and I topped the ceviche with green salsa they serve along with the chips. My husband had the mojarra frita and it was a huge portion as well. We loved the food so much we went again a couple days later just for the ceviche again. Staff was extremely friendly and service was exceptional.

Casa Taquito – Menu with Prices – 2721 Green River Rd #106, Corona

Hungry Howie’s Pizza – Menu with Prices – 2535 N Central Ave, Phoenix

First time we ordered delivery closer to closing time. Rather than say hey it’s past our delivery time they went on how it would be an hour and a half. We said we would just do carry out- no issue. The woman seemed to have a hard time understanding to void that transaction to change it to carry out. The pizza was good. We decided to try them again about a week and a half later for carry out. We saw it estimated 20 minutes and gave it 30, arrive and are told that the pizza is just about to go into the oven and it would be 10 minutes… I’m not sure it’s worth this lack of customer service.

Taqueria El Paisano – Menu with Prices – 1474 W Spring Valley Rd, Richardson

On Monday June 24th, I walk into this establishment and I’ve been a long time customer because they have great tacos. When I walked in I asked to place a to go order and they argued about giving me chips and salsa for my to go. I mentioned that when I sit down and eat. I get Chip’s and Salsa all the time. Why can’t they do that for me when I’m making a to go order?!! The owner of this needs to fix that because I’m sure not everyone will pay $5.50 for chips… Not happy at all. Will think about coming here again.

Via Delosantos – Menu with Prices – 9120 N Central Ave, Phoenix

Saturday night. 6ish. Not very busy inside but the parking lot was jammed. Sat immediately. Chips and salsa along with waters brought quickly. Chips greasy and hot. Mild salsa had great flavor with a slight kick. Hot salsa was just that. Hot but good. Order a shredded beef chimi, kid’s enchilada plate, #12 combo. (Taco, enchilada, rice and beans) ordered the bean and cheese dip appetizer to start. Don’t bother with this one. It’s just refried beans in a dish. Good beans but not really a dip. We added salsa and it was much better. Food arrives. Everything looked good but instead of the kid’s enchilada they brought 2 mini tacos. We didn’t want to wait so my son said he’d eat them. I’d have thought we’d get a small discount for the mistake but nah. He ate them so no foul. Husband’s combo was average run of the mill mexican. Nothing wrong. Nothing special. My chimi was soggy but the tortilla mised with the guac and sour cream was good. Shredded beef tasted like something I’d cook in the crock on a long day. Overall was a decent meal and a good value if you’re looking for large portions. Just average though. Building is in dire need of a remodel. Missing tiles and chips in tables. If in the area I would dine again but not go out of my way.

Casa Viva Mexican/Seafood – Menu with Prices – 18911 S Tamiami Trail #17, Fort Myers

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We came in and sat down and it was at least 10 minutes before we ever even saw an employee. She finally came over and handed us some worn out dirty menus. We ordered guacamole and chips to start. It was a bowl full of some kind of soupy avocado mixture and came with a small amount of chips. It had an odd flavor and was not good. We did not receive any chips and salsa like most Mexican restaurants offer. Two of us had the fish tacos which came with some fried shrimp on the side and French Fries. Not sure why tacos do not come with rice & beans. The “fish taco” was one small piece of fried fish, not even as long as the tortilla, with a little cabbage and a lot of sauce. Not good. The fried shrimp were really just some breading and a tail. The only reason I give them 2 stars is because the prices are low, our beer was cold and my husband had chicken enchiladas that he enjoyed. The service was not good and the place could use a deep cleaning.

Tom’s Tacos – Menu with Prices – 4669 Torrance Blvd, Torrance

This is Tito’s Tacos from Culver City, but way smaller, less crowded, and more convenient for those in South Bay. CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY! Lots of parking. CASH ONLY! As I noted in my Tito’s Tacos review, I am not a huge fan of the tacos. However, I really dig Tom’s burritos ? The bean and cheese burrito in particular. I’ve tried the burrito with the meat, rice, etc. as well, but what it all comes down to in the end is that the beans are stellar (lard-tastic) and the cheese combines to make goodness. I usually get some of the liquid guac and salsa and combine it with the burritos for a little extra flavor, but they are good without too. The chips are decent, the burritos are definitely messy, the ordering experience is way easier than Tito’s, but the burritos (to me and my wife) are awesome. Looking forward to going back for some nostalgic flavor from the Culver City days ?

Mariscos Las Islitas Menu with Prices 1601 Panama Ln #109, Bakersfield

We came in and were greated by a very nice gentlemen. The host took us to our seats. It was a little breezy so we asked for. Different table we got seated in a little spot in the middle which was nice. They forgot to clean the tables but i just didnt want to complain at the time. Anyway we ordered the oyster shots they were quite tasty. Each shot had 2 oysters inside and the shrimp..omg the shrimp. They were delicious. So crunchy and idk just really good. We had the shrimp, pulp, and fish soup and the meat molcajete. The soup was actually very good. The shrimp again was delicious and the fish very tasty. The molcajete was smaller than what I’m use to. The flavors were okay. The meats were good. The flavor just idk wasnt all that good. They give you 3 tortillas or 6 and then you can ask for more. They dont seem to charge. The molcajete comes with rice and beans. The salsa that comes with the chips are yum. These are complimentary. I would def go back to get some shrimp plates and a few of their margaritas.

GoodLife Brewing Company Menu with Prices 70 SW Century Dr Suite 100-464, Bend

Probably the most narcissistic customer service I’ve ever had. I asked for a comment card because I very politely wanted to recommend to the chefs that their salsa could use some thought or improvement or to see if maybe they had just had a bad day. The bartender or waitress informed me that they specifically didn’t have comment cards because of customers like me. “Their salsa was perfect and something every other customer loved except me.” Wow! It tasted like everything came straight out of a can. That’s a bold statement. Everyone has a bad day. Ingredients change, etc. Salsa should be delicious. It’s pretty simple. Fresh ingredients and a little tic. However if you want to have people tell you what you like and spend a decent amount of cash in the process of learning that they are perfect, well GoodLife is the place for you.
