It was a Saturday morning around 9:30am and I was at Safeway when I noticed the light up “donut” sign in the window…and of course I couldn’t resist and walked my butt over. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the sight of trays and trays of different kinds of donuts. I loooove lemon filled donuts so I got one of those ($1.10), as well as a cinnamon crumb donut ($1). Obviously these donuts are going to be more expensive than, say, a Safeway donut, but the quality is so much better. Even though these weren’t warm, they were light and fluffy and fresh. The lemon filled was covered in powdered sugar with a small blob of filling and soft donut goodness. Although this was really tasty I don’t think it was particularly special. The cinnamon crumb, however, was divine. Super light and fluffy raised donut coated in sweet crunchy cinnamon. Seriously the perfect balance of textures!! Would definitely come back if I’m back in the area. Those glazed braids and buttermilk bars look so good. I think below $5 you have to pay with cash.

Sara Donuts – Menu with Prices – 9760 Medlock Bridge Rd, Duluth

A donut’s donut. There was a period in my life where donuts were my all time favorite food. Yeast, cake, jelly filled, maple bar. You name it, chances are, I’ve eaten it. But these donuts. Oh man. These donuts are quite simply perfection. If you’re a YEASTy BOI, you’ll love their raised donuts. They are so delightfully light, it’s like you’re biting into a sweet cloud. I think it’s like $1 for a bag of donut holes (my go too), and maybe a $1 for a sugar coated braid. Get these. You will not regret it. My only wish is that there’s a Sara Donuts in Atlanta, but I guess if I ever need motivation to visit the parental units, I know you’ll be there waiting for me.

Lee’s Donuts Menu with Prices 6201 Matlock Rd, Arlington

Like many local donut shops, Lee’s Donuts is an unassuming storefront in a bland strip mall. But despite the humble appearance, they have absolutely AMAZING donuts. The dough is fluffy, but full enough to chew, a bit like a croissant; if you like Krispy Kreme, you’ll probably like Lee’s. The cake donuts are especially delightful: they have a beautiful crumb, closer to coffee cake than pound cake, and just a touch of lemon that makes them a refreshing treat. The glazes are excellent, neither flaky not overly saccharine. The strawberry glaze tasted like frosting, and is my particular favourite. They have a good variety of glazes and donut types, including sprinkles, caramel, and a very understated but so, so delicious cinnamon sugar. Besides donuts, they have donut holes (yum), bear claws (cinnamon heaven), and sausage rolls (meh). The sausage rolls will be familiar to anyone who frequents kolache places, and the dough is perfect, but the sausage is lacking. They have plain and jalapeno versions, but the plain ones seem to be hot dogs with a cheese infusion, like you can buy at the grocery store. Disappointing. Stick with donuts, and you’ll be happy!

Central Donuts & Bakery – Menu with Prices – 9500 Ray White Rd #167, Fort Worth

This was my go-to donut shop when I lived in the area several years ago. They had THE best apple fritters, which are my favorite, and THE best glazed donuts. After I moved away, I held every new donut shop’s apple fritters up against theirs and none ever passed. Theirs have apple filling you can see and taste. The donut itself is on the thinner side and with crispy outer edges. I love getting the different textural bites, some crispy and crunchy and some soft and gooey. The glazed donuts and donut holes are fluffy and just melt in your mouth. They are so light and airy and there is just enough glaze to give it a sweetness without being super sweet. You can’t get glazed donuts like this at just any other donut shops. I also enjoy their chocolate glazed, cinnamon rolls, and cake donuts. Sausage rolls are pretty standard. I was in the area recently and decided to stop in. Walking in, I was very pleased to see the same owners still there. They have always been super friendly and welcoming. I saw the same gentleman I remember working hard in the back making the donuts. You can even see him through an opening in the front. The kids in front of me were fascinated by him doing his work. It was cute. I got my beloved apple fritter and a few others. The fritter looked the same but honestly did not taste the way I remembered. The outer edges were crispy but the inner parts had a slight chew to it. It tasted good so perhaps just a hiccup in the cooking process. The glazed ones looked lighter in color but were just as fluffy and delicious. Still a very solid donut shop in the area!

Country Style Donuts – Menu with Prices – 4300 Williamsburg Rd, Richmond

When you’re craving a donut you have your got to spot. Well for me, I’m still hunting for my donut spot. KK just has a spot in my heart for life. And to be honest, I’m not a huge cake donut fan. The denseness is too much for me. So while I was in the area, I had to stop in for a donut….or four. Closed on Monday’s but open 24/he the rest of the week, this tiny donut shop had some tasty options left for me. I’m sure it’s best to get in here early in the day for all the best picks! I ordered: Raised sugar, Plain, Glazed and Peanut. My least favorite was the raised sugar and here’s why. The sugar literally did nothing for this donut. It fell off with each bite and the donut had no flavor or desire to finish. I loved the peanut as it was glazed with I think maple flavor in the glaze and coated with peanuts. The crunch, the sweetness and the cake donut just satisfied my craving! I love just a plain donut and even though it was plain, it still had a hint of sweet. The glazed is a basic necessity and favorite. Their donuts are thick and delicious. Small donut shop that’s 2 miles from RIC airport. So if you’re ever in a need for donuts and you’re in the area, pop in here and you won’t be disappointed.

Donuts Break – Menu with Prices – 1555 Meadowview Rd Ste 100, Sacramento

not bad. the wait staff was very friendly and they have a managers special- Purchase 2 donuts and get one free. so i purchased the large cinnamon twist and apple filled bear claw and received a free apple fritter. The cinnamon twist and apple filled bear claw was very tasty. In fact, i believe their “raised” style donuts are very good. not too sweet. perfect. so why just three stars? Their apple fritter tasted a little burnt, but had the same semi sweet flavor. just wish it did not have the burnt flavor. She also gave me a butter milk bar to try. It was just ok. A little dry, and tasted like a cupcake…not what i expected. However, i would return to support this local business but definitely just order their “raised” style donuts.

Thunder Donuts – Menu with Prices – 2929 SE 44th St, Oklahoma City

I love Thunder Donuts. Their yeast donuts are super light and fluffy. None of the donuts are oily. A dozen donut holes are $.99. Their sausage rolls are pretty tasty because they use their yeast donut dough to make the roll. They offer 3 small sausage rolls for $2.49 or $.99 each. They also have large rolls. Additionally, they have small and ginormous breakfast sandwiches on croissants that look really good but I haven’t tried them. I always gravitate to their yeast donuts, but the cake donuts are special as well. Eventually I am going to try their apple fritter because it looks gooey and delicious. All of their donuts can be filled on the spot in your choice of three fillings, which is a nice touch. What really makes this donut shop extraordinary is the service. There is never a line because there is always two girls working the counter, along with the owner/baker. All of them are incredibly helpful and friendly. It is a nice change of pace to the typical attitude of fast food workers. I wouldn’t necessarily make a special trip to this side of town for the donuts, but if you happen to find yourself in Del City you should definitely stop by. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Bigmouth Donut Hingetown – Menu with Prices – 1418 W 29th St, Cleveland

Bigmouth Donut is a local donut company in the Ohio City/Hingetown neighbourhood of Cleveland. I have walked by and driven through the area so many times and I always wondered when they were opened. Well, now I know that their hours are somewhat limited since they are not open in the evenings. Their hours are typical of bakeries. They are open from 7am – 2pm (Mon – Thurs.) and 7am – 5pm on Fridays. So if you work during the week between 8am – 6pm, your best bet is too arrive on a weekend (Sat./Sun.) when they are open from 8am – 5pm. DELICIOUS DONUTS — I visited on National Doughnut Day in June 2019. I bought the Lemon Raspberry donut which is a premium, yeast-risen donut. It was super fresh, soft, and of course sweet. I remember eating it so fast once I got to my apartment. The lemon raspberry donut was mouth watering good; I wanted to savour every bite. It wasn’t dry or tasteless like the churro I had La Plaza Supermarket. I know churros and donuts are different textures but the commonality is sweetness. The donuts here will be sweet so don’t worry (granted, I do need to visit Bigmouth Donuts again to try some other flavours). I don’t know how else to describe the flavour of the Lemon Raspberry donut so if you’re reading this, go visit Bigmouth Donut now! PRICE — The donut I bought cost $2.50 which is a typical price for a high quality donut (and NO, I’m not referring to Dunkin Donuts). The classic donuts here are $2 and the premium ones are $2.50. There are more flavour offerings for the premium donuts such as Almond Glazed, Blueberry Cream Cheese, and Pistachio among others. Classic donuts here include vanilla glazed, cinnamon sugar, etc. SEATING — I don’t remember seeing any seats inside but I just looked through pictures on google and saw some stools with a high table. You could buy a donut and bring it with you to Foyer Tea/coffee shop next door. Foyer is a big tea/coffee shop so there is lots of seating there. Sidenote – don’t come here when you’re hungry….haha. I arrived after taking a free spinning class at Harness Cycle next door and I was starving after my exercise session. Since I’m on a tight budget, I bought 1 donut but normally, I probably would have gotten 2. Donut Place – Menu with Prices – 5476 Del Amo Blvd, Long Beach

I’ve passed this spot so often, especially on Sundays after church. I don’t ever stop because well….donuts!! I am so happy i did though. This small, unassuming, strip mall donut shop seriously has the best donut staples & pastries I’ve had in a long time, including trendy shops and mochi ones. The donuts were fluffy, without that nasty taste of old frying oil that some other places sometimes have. I got several: a. regular glazed twist : it was still warm, soft and tasty on the drive home. b. Bear claw : apple cinnamon filling – I am eating the half the day AFTER and it’s still as good as the first half from yesterday. c. Old fashioned sour cream bar glazed – (it’s the kind that’s split down the middle ) was crunchy and still moist, if you can imagine that. d. Apple fritter – my favorite pastry – wish it came in smaller pieces, since I tend to otherwise eat the whole thing, e. free: (their hours are shorter in summer and maybe the lady behind the counter liked to throw these in) : Chocolate glazed bar and sugar dusted donut. f. Large coffee: the server was very considerate to ask if i wanted it filled to the top or leave enough space for creamer. I’ll be back again!

Sugarboy Donuts – Menu with Prices – 10710 Eldorado Pkwy #110, Frisco

Honestly I wasn’t impressed. This place has great reviews and I’ve even been here a few times but I just don’t love their donuts. I’m simple when it comes to donuts. I don’t like anything too sweet or too fancy. When I go to donut shops, I always try a glazed donut and maybe a chocolate frosted (without sprinkles). Those are always the best measure of how their donuts truly are. I love big, fluffy yeast-risen donuts, don’t really crave cake donuts as much. I stopped in today on a late Tuesday morning and got a glazed donut plus their fruit+custard cronut. The glazed donut here was tiny and light. Since the donut was small, the glaze was overpowering. There’s a picture posted with someone’s comments saying best glazed donuts ever and that is a total lie. I’ve had plenty of donuts and their glazed wasn’t better than the rest. The fruit and custard cronut was ok. The dough was chewy but needing a bit more crust on the outside. The custard and fruit didn’t really add much spark. Didn’t feel like this place was that special. Just ok. Happy that they are doing well though! Just not the shop for me

Duck Donuts – Cross Hill Market – Menu with Prices – Cross Hill Market, 702 Cross Hill Rd 100 B, Columbia

Duck Donuts is definitely my go-to if I’m ever craving donuts. Located next to Taziki’s in the same plaza as Whole Foods and Midwood Smokehouse, there is plenty of lot parking available. The restaurant itself is small, but has a nice and fun atmosphere with its duck themed decor. The staff is nice and friendly and the service is quick. Not to mention, the donuts are absolutely divine! The price of the donuts are also fair. There are plenty of options on the menu, as well as the option to build your own donut! They also update the menu seasonally, though there are still plenty of favorites that remain year-round. A popular choice, and well deserved, is the maple bacon donut. I’m personally a fan of donuts covered in nuts. We haven’t tried much on the menu outside of the donuts, but don’t really see a need to. We did try the coffee once before and it was super sweet, which isn’t too surprising in hindsight, I guess, due to it being primarily a donut shop. Definitely recommended!

Rise N Shine Donuts Menu with Prices 5901 S Coulter St, Amarillo

My Mom can’t resist a good donut. I bought her 1 donut from each of the 3 major donut businesses here in Amarillo & her top choice was Rise N Shine because it isn’t too sweet. It’s perfect. Since that time whenever she is in town, I get her those donuts. As I walk in to order the donuts they are nicely displayed $ very colorful. On occasion there will be a fly that gets in the case. The employees are very attentive & alert. They will quickly take your order so you can be on your way. The first time I ordered – Strawberry donut w/sprinkles – Cinnamon roll (it was huge!) – Blueberry cake – Donut holes The second time I ordered – red velvet cake – Bear claw (it was huge!) – Cinnamon twist PROS – plenty of parking – Has a drive-thru – Friendly service – Variety of donuts

Ball Donuts Menu with Prices 2121 E Ball Rd, Anaheim

You know when you are hooked on these new creative donuts and you just happen to find a name you thought was one of those hip locations, but when you pay a visit, its NOT. Yup, they got me. With only 20 Reviews, my suspicions were correct. It was just a local donut shop that is on Ball Road. If you just want a good cheap donut, come by Ball Donuts in Anaheim. Honestly, I know I would be pushing it to go to a specialty donut place during my lunch break. So, I saw the name on Yelp and said, “Let’s Go!” Located on the north side of Ball Road behind the car wash in a small shopping strip, you will find, Ball Donuts. Parking is tight when you have so many cars parking in angles and delivery trucks blocking the path. Ball Donuts opens everyday at 4am. Whoa…I wonder who is awake at 4am. It would make sense at 5am, At 4 am, that where they serve their best and HOTTEST donuts. Unfortunately for me, I came in at noon and they didn’t have much of a selection left. And they close at 8pm? Not much left for choices by the end of the day. I was greeted by an elderly Asian lady. Apparently, other Yelpers have met her too. She was very warm in her welcome. She automatically wanted me to try the Blueberry Donut. Blueberry Donut?! I’ve never heard of that before. I saw it, but it was hard to tell it was a Blueberry Donut. So, I got a Blueberry, a glazed, and a lemon-filled sugar donut ($2.95). I don’t have a price on a dozen donuts, but she quoted me for three dozen donuts for $8.50. Not bad for those large workplaces who devour their donuts. When I brought to my donuts back, I had to dissect it. The first one on my list is the lemon-filled powdered donut. Before I even tried to open, it looks like Ball Donuts slices their donuts versus injecting the donuts. I wasn’t sure if its classified as a donut or a sandwich. Yeah, it may have been made out of cake batter, but it was cut like a sandwich… A lot of the filling was on one side of the donut. It wasn’t really spread out evenly. I didn’t feel heavy eating it and that was a DONUT! However, I did fall asleep for a bit. Must be the side effects of a delicious donut. The highlight of the visit wasn’t the lemon-filled powdered donut. It was the Blueberry Donut. OK, it wasn’t decorated any special, but it was made out of BLUEBERRY! You’ve tried a Red Velvet Donut! Then try a Blueberry Donut. Its fruity and with the light glaze, I still didn’t feel guilty for having it. Overall, Ball Donuts is a family shop. Its a small family donut shop. I love how I was greeted, love the price, and the donuts were just as good without the fancy donut names. I am all for small business and if you want to feed the morning crowd at work and donuts is the only thing you are after, come to Ball Donuts. They’ll be ready for you and your large orders.
