Staff works in cohesion, never skipping a beat. There’s always somebody if you need something. Very friendly, comfy environment. I don’t know why but but despite clearly being in a restaurant, feels like you’re at someone’s house as a guest because of the homemade taste of the food and the hospitality of the hosting. That’s my reasoning, trying to figure out why, anyway. Start off with the appetizer combo. It is actually quite a bit for just two people, let alone one person. Tom Yum Kai is a tasty, light filler as long as you go small bowl. Spicy Noodles is a more universally doable heat level and very tasty. Singha Spicy is really good and my favorite, but that heat creeps up on you. I’ll admit I had a small cough for a minute before I acclimated. I was like, “ah, this isn’t spi–*cough!*” Haha! It’s not insane hot, just snuck up on me. I swear! ? The trick is to not treat the heat like it’s broth. It’s not. It’s seasoning. Combo it with your rice or separate on to a dish. Really good choice that I recommend. Gotta try this place, and not just if you like Thai.

Thai Express – Menu with Prices – 7001 Mumford Rd, Halifax

Decided to try Thai Express for lunch, I arrived about 2 PM. As I looked over the menu options, after a minute or two I decided I wasn’t too interested in a combo with white rice. On the other hand, I would have enjoyed some egg noodles. At the last minute before I ordered, I glanced over the cashier’s head on the wall to the left and spotted a sign for Chili Chili Bangkok, which comes with egg noodles. Aha, I decided to take a chance and order something new. Turned out that it is their new Special. The cashier said I was the first person to order it! She answered all my questions and I placed my order. The stir fry ingredients included broccoli, red pepper, baby corn, scrambled egg and loads of flat egg noodles, served in a tasty sauce. I selected tofu for my dish and it came to $7.08, including a free 16 ounce beverage of my choice (lemonade) which was an added bonus. The food was prepared and served up to me piping hot, but not spicy as in ‘your mouth is on fire’ hot. I then dressed it up with a wedge of lime, some squirts of fish sauce and hoisin sauce and a handful of chopped peanuts and it was good to go. It came in a large transparent plastic bowl, just like the one they serve their soup in. You get a ton of food, enough for two I thought! I was more than satisfied with this tasty, hot, plentiful meal. In fact, I had an Asian meal at a sit down restaurant earlier this month which wasn’t half as flavourful, nor half as large, nor as hot, and it cost twice as much. So remember the name Chili Chili Bangkok the next time you want a great meal at Thai Express! Learn more at http://www.thaiexpress.ca/

Santouka Ramen – Menu with Prices – 665 Paularino Ave, Costa Mesa

This ramen spot is located inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace and the parking situation is horrendous on Monday (national holiday). There were so many cars waiting for cars to leave their parking spots and people milling about. Even the parking structure was full. Inside the marketplace, the food court is packed. They have many restaurants, offering sushi, ramen, udon, and more. There are tables and bar seating that were all full, so make sure you secure a table while waiting for your food. Also, they are CASH ONLY. At Hokkaido Ramen, they have 2 main menus: the Ramen menu and the Combination menu. The Ramen menu consists of 4 different soup flavors (Salt, Soy Sauce, Miso, and Spicy Miso) and 3 different ramen styles (Regular, Char Siu (extra pork), and Toroniku (pork cheek)). On the Combination menu, they have the same 4 soup flavors and 6 different combos (comes with rice bowl, ramen & flavored egg). Combo A is the Negi Rice Bowl (green onions, radish sprouts, tofu, bonito, seaweed), Combo B is the Sake & Ikura Rice Bowl (grilled salmon, salmon roe, radish sprouts), Combo C is the Natto Rice Bowl (fermented soy beans, green onions), Combo D is the Char Siu Rice Bowl (char siu, green onions, sesame seeds), Combo E is white rice, and Combo F is the Mentaiko Rice Bowl (spicy cod roe & egg salad). They also offer all the rice bowls as side dishes. Prices depend on the size you order (S, M, L) and the type of combo or soup flavor. What’s nice is that pretty much all the restaurants here have their menu items on display. Santouka is no exception. This is really convenient for comparing portion sizes and what looks appetizing and what doesn’t. We ordered 1 Spicy Miso ramen (medium), 1 D Combo (Spicy Miso ramen + Char Siu rice bowl), 1 F Combo (Spicy Miso ramen + Mentaiko rice bowl), 1 Sake & Ikura Rice Bowl (side dish), and 1 Soy Sauce ramen (medium). Food took about around 30 minutes to arrive. Ramen itself was very delicious. I didn’t think it was spicy at all and although we all ordered medium sizes, it was very filling. Broth is rich, flavorful, and creamy. The char siu is good and tender, but not the best I’ve had (try the perfectly juicy and tender char siu at HiroNori in Irvine). And they give you 2 thin pieces. The rice bowls look small, but are quite a lot, especially if you have ramen as well. They’re all pretty tasty and definitely worth the price if you purchase as a combo. TL;DR: If you’re looking for a good ramen spot with great broth and noodles that overall, hits the spot, come to Santouka. Prices are fair ($10-15 for ramen, $13-17 for combos) and they take cash only. Keep in mind how crowded it gets at Mitsuwa and be expected to wait a while.

Abby Singer’s Bistro – Menu with Prices – 617 Texas St, Shreveport

I can’t explain it! Well, this was my first experience at this restaurant and I wasn’t impressed. First off it was lunchtime and my time was limited. I waited 8mins at the wait to be seated sign for the rude waitress that coughed over everything to acknowledge I wanted service. It took a lady to walk over to her and tell her I was there… I ask the rude waitress who was the lady who alerted her of my presence and the waitress said” I don’t know who in the fuck she is”. Wow, what great customer service. I was told to sit at the bar to make my order. I ordered and watch the waitress cough, cough, touch money, cough into her hands and cough, cough, and cough without washing her hand. She then complain about her $3 tips. She cough and waited on other tables. This is how the flu and other germs are passed around. The Managers really need to teach your waitress hand sanitizing and how important it is to practice safe serve. I Ordered the chicken and waffles, it wasn’t a half of chicken and it was bland but with the hot honey sauce made it taste better. I wanted to take my family back for the experiences but I wasn’t really moved by the whole ideal….

Beijing Noodle – Menu with Prices – 1005 W Stuart St, Fort Collins

Do yourself a favor and go here! I’ve never been to China, but it does seem to be very authentic and fresh. They make delicious noodle dishes and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. They do seem to listen to customer suggestions and will leave something out or add more of something if you ask. I also love the summer menu. The cool noodles matched with fresh veggies is refreshing on a hot summer day. The beef is different than I’m used to, but still very tasty. Just the right amount of salt in this dish, but if you want more they will include more sauce. For colder days I like the oil spill noodles for a good amount of spice (both heat and flavor) and lots of tasty pork. They definitely don’t skimp on the portions here. One bowl will probably fill you up because there’s almost an equal amount of pork to noodles. They also give you a ton of dumplings (which, if I remember correctly, are freshly made along with the noodles?). I’ve also tried the tea egg and Chinese hamburger and enjoyed both. The pricing is also incredibly reasonable. I love this place and I hope it manages to treat Fort Collins for a while!

Yummy Poke Pensacola, FL – Menu with Prices – 5046 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola

Order: Build your own poke bowl -Base: Sushi Rice -Protein: Spicy salmon (raw) and Ahi (raw) -Sides/Mix ins: spicy imitation crab, edamame, seaweed salad -Sauce: spicy lime ponzu and spicy mayo -Topping: fish eggs -Crunch: shredded nori Average price for a poke bowl (~$11 starting price) I had only the 2 scoop protein bowl and it was more than enough for myself! They don’t skimp on any items so it is very worth the price. (They put so much imitation crab, it was as much as another scoop of protein!). The fish was fresh and not “fishy” tasting. Only con I would say to the bowl I made is that the spicy salmon and spicy imitation crab were already very saucy, so when i added in spicy mayo it made my bowl TOO saucy. I would say either omit spicy mayo if you get any “spicy” proteins or to tell them to do a light drizzle. Overall, I would definitely go there again!

Hakata Ikkousha – Menu with Prices – 3033 Bristol St, Costa Mesa

I’ve been to a good amount of ramen shops and I even work at a ramen shop, but I feel like Ikkousha is my all-time favorite. I love how their thick broth coats the thin noodles, and their egg is seasoned lightly and cooked well so that there’s a soft, runny yolk. The meat is quite thin and sparse, but I think it works with their ramen since thicker meat would make the dish feel too heavy. They also make their own noodles which is pretty cool! My go-to is the godfire level four. I don’t know any other place that makes a tasty spicy tonkotsu ramen that’s actually spicy. If you’re not sure about the spice level, I’d start with level two to gauge how much spice you want. Sometimes I want the black tonkotsu but still want godfire, so I get the black devil since it’s a mix of both! It’s not on the menu though, so you have to ask for it. The fried chicken and gyoza are both great appetizers too! The chicken is crispy and juicy and the gyoza comes with a yuzu chili sauce that is the perfect condiment for it. Sometimes I don’t even have to pay for it because they have a stamp card that gives you free food!! Parking in this lot can be atrocious during peak lunch and dinner hours. They do offer valet if you’re into that, but you can park in the nearby neighborhood too.

Xiao Xing Yun – Menu with Prices – 240 Legacy Dr, Plano

Get the Biang Biang Noodles! (I would type it in Chinese but that’s not possible…) \\ biang biang noodles – fresh chewy hand-pulled noodles that can be probably even a foot long – a wee spicy kick accompanies the other savory umami tastes – hearty chunks of soy sauce-infused sweet pork belly are just the right size to be not too greasy for one bite – don’t wear white because it can be splashy… – definitely can be shared with a friend You can add a è???? (Rougamo) to make a $12 combo. Mo is a little like an English muffin, a little like pita bread… which makes this a little like a really really juicy and flavorful hamburger. I also tried a little of the Pork and Hot and Sour noodle soup. Those noodles are also chewy and appear to be handmade. This is the first place I’ve seen in the metroplex that specializes in Xi’an cuisine, and it’s fantastic that they do it so well. Do indulge, but maybe not too often. At less than $10 a bowl, it’s a great deal for lunch! Bring cash just in case you don’t hit the $10 limit for credit card.

Phá»? K & K Menu with Prices 2533 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley

I absolutely love pho, so I’m really surprised I haven’t visited earlier. All my friends often came here during our freshman year, but I just haven’t gotten the chance to go! I came here today around 5pm on a cloudy, chilly day – perfect weather for a big bowl of hot noodles. As it wasn’t peak hours, my friend and I were immediately seated and given menus. We both ordered the #9, just typical rare beef pho, priced at $10 a bowl not including tax. I was totally not disappointed by the wait time! Both of our orders came probably around 5 minutes after we ordered. However, usually at pho places you’d be given one plate of veggies (the usual fresh bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos, and lemons to add to the pho) for every single bowl of noodles/pho you order. We were instead given one small plate to share between the two of us, of which I wasn’t a huge fan. I do admit that the broth was fantastically good – I drank all of it – and the noodles were great too, but there just wasn’t enough beef for the price fo $10 and the bowl size. A very good standard-sized bowl of pho, but I feel like they made it look bigger than it was with an overflow of broth so that the noodles and beef were floating in it like tiny leaves on a large pond. My verdict? It was great comfort food (and I definitely need it during this second midterm season), but at the price point, distance from campus, and the portion size, I’d much rather go to Saigon Express on Shattuck and use the $11 to buy both a foot-long banh mi (~$4) and a big bowl of pretty good pho (~$7).

Gengis Khan Mongolian BBQ – Menu with Prices – Next to Gold’s Gym, 3213 Glendale Galleria Way Space LU01, Glendale

Looking for a quick lunch? Look no further! I’ve seen this place when I pass by since I work out next door. The last time when I was hanging out at one of those tables, I saw a lot of people in line for lunch. I looked this place up on yelp and didn’t see many reviews but made a mental note to try it out one day. After leaving the gym, I decided to take a quick peek at the menu, it was probably 1:45pm by this point and I saw a man getting food here and I was greeted by Drew who asked me if I had any questions. Ruby was close by, cleaning the area and was very polite and explained to me how it worked. You fill up your own bowl with meats and veggies then the chef will load up noodles and sauce for you and cook it right there in front of you! Nothing is sitting under a heat lamp! The bowl is 10.99 before tax. I will definitely stuff it next time because the meats shrink after it’s cook. I did get very full after this lunch and thought the noodles in the sauce was tasty! If you don’t want a typical lunch like Panda Express or blaze then give this place a try! They also do take-away which is what I did but you still go through the process of loading up your bowl on the tray. Not sure how people with allergies will do here since it seems like it’s all cooked on the big stove.

Yu Noodle House – Menu with Prices – 2445 Burrard St, Vancouver

We were in the ‘hood looking for a quick bite to eat before trivia night. I found a Northern Chinese/Henan spot called Yu Noodle House. They opened fairly recently, back in June. We dropped in on a Monday (around 6:45pm) and were the only ones eating in. A couple other Asians came in to grab takeout. The inside is newly renovated and has 12 tables (fits about 36 people). The menu is small with noodles, street eat Chinese style, rice, soup and drinks. – Tea – complimentary and our pot was refilled. Quite nice. – Noodle with lamb in soup (#1) ($10.95) – the broth is basic so don’t order this expecting a punch of flavour. That being said, the wide, flat noodles were excellent and lamb slices were tender. Wish there was more. It also came with bok choy, knot yam noodles and wood ear mushrooms. The last two were unexpected surprises. – Spicy oil noodles with vegetables (#4) ($8.95) – they asked us how spicy we wanted our bowl; we went with medium. This was delicious! Noodles were chewy and toothsome. An extremely satisfying bite to them. Only issue was that they do get a tad clumpy. Flavourwise, I liked how it wasn’t too oily. The spice level was perfect. The scoop of minced garlic, bean sprouts and bokchoy were an excellent addition. I’ll be back to try more dishes. Looking forward to it!

Szechuan Gourmet – Menu with Prices – 1930 Columbia Ave, Lancaster

While vacationing in the area, I was craving some soup dumplings. A Yelp search revealed this place. Sometimes you’re not expecting much, but then are totally surprised (in a good way) with the quality of the food AND the service. Everything we tried was excellent. I’ll admit, the soup dumplings were a bit on the small side, but what they lacked in size, they made up for in flavor. The Dan Dan noodles with minced pork were also awesome……the spice level was spot on and the texture of the noodles was perfect. Also tried the wontons in chili sauce which were also pretty spicy and the wontons were thin and delicate. The highlight of the meal though came from the beef dry pot (which the name is a bit deceiving because it’s almost like a stew). That was a phenomenally tasty dish. I guess I’m somewhat spoiled because I often visit Manhattan and Flushing, Queens for a lot if these dishes, but finding this gem in Lancaster Pennsylvania was very surprising. Their food rivals some of the best Asian cuisine I’ve ever tasted. They certainly know what they’re doing in there and I hope they keep up the great work, because the next time I visit, it will definitely be one of my stops. To the chef and my server, I tip my cap to you…….my family and I had a wonderful dining experience and a fantastic meal. Great job! Oh…..and one last thing……if you check in on Yelp, you get an order of the soup dumplings (which are normally about 7 bucks) for 1 dollar. Be sure to capitalize on that deal.

Thai On the Beach – Menu with Prices – Located On 2nd Floor, 901 N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale isn’t exactly known for a good selection of Thai restaurants, so knowing there’s one around close to the action of Fort Lauderdale Beach is a nice surprise. You’ll have to be someone who has attention to detail to notice this place even exists, because for a couple of years I thought this was just a 2nd floor to Primanti Brother’s. I visited today with the wifey, 5/12/2019, we were greeted kindly. We had the option of sitting anywhere, which consisted of about enough room for about 10 tables. They have a special dining area where you have to take your shoes off, which is neat, so we sat there. The other choices however, are not bad because you can get an ocean view of all the action of Sunrise Blvd and A1A. we had: 1. Singha Beer – $4.95? 2. Panang Curry – $13.95 3. Massaman Curry – $13.95 4. Fried Bananas w/ Ice Cream – $6 Singha beer was okay, it had a very light taste, it was good but not my favorite. Panana Curry and Massaman Curry were exactly how you expect them to taste from a Thai place, and the Fried Banana w/ Ice Cream could’ve been a little better. Overall, a pleasant experience, close to the beach, much better than 90% of overpriced food you find on Fort Lauderdale Beach. 4*
