This was an extraordinary experience. We were just walking by and decided to stop in for a drink and left two hours later with new friends and an education in craft cocktails, liquors, mixers and bartending. We tasted hand crafted drinks we didn’t know existed or could exist and tasted our favorite drinks like never before. Fabian the bartender is passionate about what he does, educated as to why drinks are made certain ways instead of others, friendly, polite and classy. This was truly a unique experience that I’ll never forget.

GEO Pressed Juice & Wellness – Menu with Prices – 8126 Floyd St, Overland Park

The owner was so kind and very passionate about his products. Adam was very educated and informed me about all the benefits of the juice blends. It was really difficult to make just once choice because all the combinations of fresh ingredients are all just too good to be true. Had unique recipes that I haven’t seen anywhere else. The bottles are packaged well, they appear small at first but don’t let your eye fool you, they’re a solid 8 or 16 oz servings which is plenty when you have high quality ingredients. They also offer wellness plans for detox or just to amp up your body’s over all health. Another rare aspect is they offer a delivery service as well with some of these plans. I got the tetrahedron and it tasted amazing. Super excited to re-visit and hopefully they expand to others regions soon.

Ridge Pizza NE – Menu with Prices – 3338 NE 65th St, Seattle

My husband and I have recently moved back into the neighborhood in the past year and one of our old friends recommended this place to us and it has become one of our favorite spots to have pizza in the neighborhood since it’s never too busy but it does get loud at times such as when little leagues have their after game party. One of the cool things about this place it has a fully stocked bar for adults. Our favorite bartender is Matt I believe. I’m horrible with names but he’s the somewhat bald guy working behind the bar. My husband and I always like creating your own pizza and they have a lot of options to offer. One of our favorite types of pizzas we get there is cheese spicy pepperoni and Italian sausage. By the way before I forget my husband loves their whiskey selection. This review would have been four stars however I had one negative experience there when I took a group of my friends after work for pizza and drinks. We were a group of five and we all wanted cocktails however when we placed the order for the drinks the bartender “NOT Matt the bald guy” seemed irritated with us and shook his head while walking away. Even though he gave a little attitude the drinks still tasted good and the pizza was perfect. When I got home I told my husband about what happened and a few days later he went to the place to meet up with a few of his friends and inquired about the guy that we had. When my husband came home he told me that he talked to the friendly bartender and told me that he said that the bartender we had could be rough around the edges sometimes. Anyways I’m not going to let this situation keep us from going there. 90% of the time it’s an good experience.

Track 7 Brewing Company – Menu with Prices – 3747 W Pacific Ave F, Sacramento

“Surprisingly Well-educated Patrons, Shakespeare, Blondes.” And now for the rest of the story: First time at this brewery, and it was a pleasant experience. I had just concluded a visit to Sacramento City College and a musical rendition of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” To top it off, I needed to find a brewery. I was feeling a kinship with Sir Toby Belch. This business is actually 2 large areas, and the day that I visited, they were both almost full! This is obviously a very popular spot with the locals. You can actually see the fermentation tanks right behind the bar, but they’re really off limits to patrons. The nice bartender knew exactly what I wanted, when I explained what type of beer I like. He picked a nice Blonde (a type of beer, not a reference to dating preferences) and I purchased a pint for about $6. They have a large vending machine, which provides snacks and soft drinks. They also have free water right at the bar. One of the nice patrons I met explained that the people here are, “surprisingly well educated.” I wasn’t sure if he was referring to himself. I met a few local chaps and we had a wonderful chat for about 45 minutes. So overall, a pleasant stay, along with edifying conversation with surprisingly well-educated people.

Bendistillery Inc Menu with Prices 19330 Pinehurst Rd, Bend

I think this place makes good spirits. I think the tasting room while clean and air conditioned lacks as an experience. I was asking about the spirits they had poured and instead of telling me about the spirits, they told me to read the plastic description card at the center of the table. They were a little busy, but not very. When I asked more questions, I couldn’t tell if they were being cagey and hesitant because the information was proprietary and they didn’t want to share it, or if they just didn’t want to talk about it. I just wanted to learn about their spirits and what made them unique and theirs. They did forget to bring me the cocktail I ordered, but that was an honest mistake any of us could have made. All and all, I just wanted someone passionate to talk to me and get me excited about their products.

Fine Wine & Good Spirits – Menu with Prices – 1761A Columbia Ave, Lancaster

First time purchase for an old person but I had excellent assistance from the staff… Small store at the location I went to so some brands or low sale or unique products were not there. The staff checked at other locations to assist me. I was educated on what one should have for basics in a home party bar. I was clueless. I appreciate the help and I was able to get quality beverages but with reasonable cost based on their experience.

South Side Saloon – Menu with Prices – 495 E Redlands Blvd, San Bernardino

I was recently in the establishment for the first time, and it was just your normal bar….I say “just”, because that is all it is, just a drinking bar. They have no kitchen, which means…..NO FOOD to eat! All they have for you to eat, is a small bag of commercially sold peanuts, for .75 cents, and a commercially sold bag of microwave popcorn, for $1.00……and that’s it! They’re not given away free, like most bars do! They have “NO DRAFT BEER”, only bottled beer! The prices on the bottled beer, are reasonable. I had a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale beer, a craft beer, and the price was $4.00. They DO have mixed drinks……but, when I tried to order a Piña Colada, from the young lady bartender, she told me, that she didn’t know how to make one. So, I asked for a Long Island Ice Tea……when it came, and I took a sip, it didn’t come anywhere close, to tasting like a Long Island Ice Tea! It was so “acidic”, it was totally horrible! Cool-aid would have tasted allot better! The bartender, had no clue, on how to make drinks properly…..yet, she was a bartender! I must say that the Saloon was small, quaint, had two dart boards, and a pool table, and the only seats, were at the bar itself. So, if it gets busy, you’re out of luck, getting a seat. The best outcome of the experience, was the interaction of the customer’s themselves. They were very friendly to me, and worth the trip. So, what can I say……you’ll have to go, and check it out for yourself. If you go, don’t expect much, and you might get through the first visit. At least, the customers were friendly!

CIRCA KITCHEN COCKTAILS & LOUNGE – Menu with Prices – 11 W 9th St, Columbus

I went in this bar for the first time a few weeks ago to watch a friend of mines band play. So paying the $5 cover didn’t bother me seeing as though I knew it was paying the band. What did bother me is I had a waitress not even ask what I wanted to drink and instead just randomly come up to me at the bar and say “sorry only he knows how to make drinks.” Referring to the one bartender on duty. I would have been fine with a beer but wasn’t even acknowledged again for another 20-30 min by that one male bartender who I later found out is the owner of the bar. Not only after finally taking our order he then skipped us and made some other people drinks. I told him to forget it and left. There was no apology only a “ah come on stay” I will not be returning to this place ever again. To be on the complete end of Broadway where there are no other bars you would think service would be a little better to draw a crowd…. Especially from the owner himself.

Mercury Lounge – Menu with Prices – 56 Byward Market Square, Ottawa

While visiting Ottawa on Dec 2nd-4th, my husband and I were out to enjoy Ottawa’s night life. We found the Murcury Lounge and I was very impressed. It is a smaller, intimate space with interesting/unique artwork and decor. We stayed on the second level, though there was a dance floor on the 3rd level. The bathrooms were clean and modern. I suspect that 2 is sufficient for theb small space. I did not experience any waiting. Our bartender certainly knows what she is doing! I had the Chocolate Martini, followed by the Lychee and Ginger Martinis. They were incredible and very smooth. So smooth in fact that I had all 3 with in just over an hour. The bartender was kind enough to ensure that I was aware of the 2oz content of each Martini before serving the 3rd. She came across as genuinely caring about her clientèle and our best interests. She was attentive and near, as soon as she was needed. -Side note, I personally have a high tolerance for this consumption level though I understand that is uncommon of most women my size. The music was perfect for the classy setting on Friday. On Saturday the live DJ for both levels was very enjoyed. I had to go back for another of the Ginger Martinis on Saturday. I would love to go back during future trips to Ottawa and will highly recommend. I only wish there was a place like this in Halifax.

The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room – Menu with Prices – 2523 Broadway, Oakland

As a “self-proclaimed” coffee snob, I’m so impressed with this place, I can hardly stand it. While traveling, we’re always in search of a GREAT 3rd wave coffee purveyor. This place shot to the top of my list. We’ve been a number of times (we live 2 hours away) on practically every trip we make to the Bay Area. I’ve enjoyed a number of lattes, espresso’s (they offer an espresso “flight”) and cold brews. Each visit comes complete with great service and a coffee education (if you so inquire). These folks don’t just serve up some of the finest roasts I’ve ever tasted, they are “highly” educated about the process and freely share their expertise. I’m told that their “main” business is as an importer / supplier to many of the 3rd wave roasters throughout Northern California, and they’ve been in the coffee biz for many years. I have yet to take advantage of the many educational offerings they have, both for coffee professionals or just folks (like myself) looking to get more educated on the subject of GREAT coffee and how to make it, drink it and enjoy it. They don’t sell roasted beans, to the public, however, they will make you a cup of some of the best coffee you’ve ever tasted.

Ulta Beauty – Menu with Prices – 4200 E Carson St, Long Beach

On 3/31/19 I went in to make a purchase and I wanted to use a merchandise credit card that I hadn’t used yet. The cashier told me to swipe the card like 3 times under what it looked like a purchase with a gift card but it wouldn’t go through. So then she asked me to try again because she had it under the wrong section. I swiped the card again and it said merchandise credit on the screen, she said to swipe the card one more time. Cashier then says “oh there is no money on this card.’ So I told her that I was a little confused because I know for sure I hadn’t used this card. I was extremely certain that I had money on it. Cashier then paiged the manager over. The manager comes takes a look at the screen and says “oh it’s not going through because there is no money on here” she printed a slip showing a zero balance on the card. She said let me give you guest services number. I calmly said “ok no problem I will just give them a call and find out what’s going on.” I bought the products anyway. So later that day I called and spoke to Fabian, he said that there was no shopping history on the card and that when they had me swipe it more than once it actually deleted the funds from the card. He said he was going to send a report to the store so I can go back and get the money back on it. The next day 4/1/19 I went it and spoke to the same manager that I spoke to yesterday and I explained what Fabian had told me. She was very defensive and had a lot of attitude, she showed no concern in trying to help me fix this problem, she said that she didn’t know what he meant by the funds being deleted on my card and that they did NO such thing. I asked her to please call guest services and speak to someone. She went to the back room or something and after a few minutes another employee brings their phone to me and has me speak to Tomy, a woman from South Carolina. Tomy said that Fabian did not know what he was talking about and that they cannot check merchandise card balances on their system. I felt like an idiot, confused, cheated, no one seemed to want to help me figure out why there was no balance on my card. Tomy offered a phone number to call and get a card balance. Again, I was confused because that’s the reason I needed their help, because the card had zero balance. I called this number and spoke to a man who was super friendly and was able to check the history of the card. He said that there were no purchases done with this card and that when the cashier swiped my card twice it actually erased/voided the money on the card which is what Fabian had told me. He was able to put the money back on the card. THANK GOD! I went back inside ulta and got a balance inquiry from an employee on the register. I wanted to make sure the money was there and it was. The manager was no where to be found. She didn’t even come up to me and ask me if I had been helped if the problem was resolved. I didn’t even get an apology. SHE WAS RUDE, DEFENSIVE AND MADE ME FEEL LIKE A LIAR. I wonder if Ulta even trains their employees proper usage of merchandise credit cards. How many times have they done this to customers? I was so frustrated and angry that I had to go through all this just to fix a mistake that the cashier made. I don’t even feel like shopping at ulta anymore.

The Drawing Room – Menu with Prices – 531 Henley St, Knoxville

What a fantastic little-known bar! (and hotel for that matter) After 2 years in business, I have only heard one person mention this place. Granted, most people don’t even consider a hotel bar as a destination for the evening. Well, that has changed! This place has a cool NYC feel: classy and contemporary. On a Thursday evening, we were the only ones there at 8 PM, but by 10 PM there were about 10 others, likely some of them hotel guests. Rich dark colors, beautiful hardwood floors, leather wingbacks and sofas, local decor touches, and warm lighting (although a little too bright). The food menu is full of creative, unique dishes, and the custom cocktail list is excellent. Also, 1 of only 3 places in Knoxville where I have found a true smoked Old Fashioned. Don’t miss it! The bartender Ridge was friendly and knowledgeable. Situated on the second floor of the Tennessean Hotel, there is also a nice view past the Sunsphere toward campus. We will definitely return!

Bulrush StL Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3307 Washington Blvd, St. Louis

After our second visit for dinner and drinks at the bar, I can say that our first mind-blowing experience was not a one-off. Rob Connolly is a unique chef who combines things you’d never think you’d eat, let along love. He and his talented staff have worked hard to put together a unique place that welcomes you into their world of eclectic food and drinks. At our first visit we wondered if it would be pretentious but be assured it is not. Street parking is easy, and once inside you can browse the many cookbooks and watch all the action. I purchased Rob’s cookbook (Acorns and Cattails) along with a box of his hand-made chocolates which I slowly enjoyed over the next few weeks – and yes, that took great restraint as each was a unique and wonderful flavor. We like the inclusive pricing system – really adds to the enjoyment of the experience. You may opt for a reservation in the dining room or eat at the bar which we enjoy as it’s a great place to watch the mixology magic of Chris Voll and his bar staff. I’ve never seen such attention to mixing drinks, and it shows as everything we’ve tasted was a unique and fresh taste. You can also ask them to create a cocktail based on you bar faves. Next up on our list is doing the tasting menu in the dining room so we’ll get custom cocktails then. I’ve eaten great food (some at Rob’s former restaurant Squatters) and I have to say that every bite and sip here made us very very happy. Bulrush was a long time in the making, but the wait was worth it. Shout out to Tom Niemeier at SPACE for the restaurant design which matches Rob’s food aesthetic perfectly. Do yourself a favor and go, either by yourself or with others. You’ll be glad you did!
