Fort Myers , Florida My flight out of Fort Myers , 20 Aug 19 , was cancelled for the second time in 4 days. Tired of paying taxi fares back and forth to the airport I managed to contact a friend to come pick me up and drive me back home. Naturally my friend got hungry on his long drive from the Cape to RSW and suggested that we stop for lunch at 2meatballs. As I had this place already book marked I quickly agreed , not to mention I was also hungry and frustrated having my flight cancelled. We arrive and are quickly seated by our waitress , Tesla. After studying the menu I order the 2 meatballs in a sandwich. My friend … ordered everything else on the menu. My friend has some physical disabilities and required some special attention and our waitress was very kind and accommodating. The place was very nice and had ample seating to accommodate a large group. The attire is florida casual. The parking is free in the lot outside. Our food arrived and my friend ate everything he ordered. My order of 2meatballs in a sandwich from the 2meatballs in the kitchen was very good but the sandwich was very big. I only finished half of my sandwich and doggy bagged the other half. I like this place and I will be back to try other items on the menu. Unfortunately , I forgot to take a photo of my sandwich or of my friend’s “everything” on the menu for posting on this review. But come on , close your eyes and picture two meatballs covered with mozzarella cheese on Italian bread. Hmmmm , doesn’t that look delish ? Ok , open your eyes and forgetaboutit … I already ate the sandwich. Jaaa

Big Daddy’s Crab Shack – Menu with Prices – 3523 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Fort Myers

I hate Fort Myers. I grew up there when it was a “retirement community” and left never looking back 12 years ago. Returned to visit a friend and despite it now having fancy shops and other developments expanding outwards like melted ice cream in Florida’s shitty heat on super flat land, I still hate it. And here’s another good reason. No ones reviewed Big Daddy’s Crab, instead choosing to go and eat at those other boring seafood joints like Pinchers. I judge you. I ate seafood the entire time I was in Fort Myers and this is the best seafood you all are missing out on. The sauce is kicky and garlicky and well seasoned. The crab was fresh and meaty. Even the corn and boiled potato was delicious. Mud would be edible with this sauce. Sure it’s in a questionable part of town. Yeah, there’s no tables to eat on. Its a tiny shack. It’s cash only. It comes in a bag. It’s messy AF. If you can get down with that, then you win.

TROPICAL POINT – Menu with Prices – 3237 Fowler St, Fort Myers

Decided to try a Groupon for this food truck experience, and it turned out to be a winner! This is a great little operation, owned by a very friendly and personable couple. It’s not about swanky atmosphere. Rather, it’s a different stop along the road for a chance to grab a great lunch that has some character, with the owners of this small business obviously taking pride in what they do. Also, with the current widespread flu bug hitting Florida and everywhere else, it was nice to be able to sit at one of the two outside picnic tables on a sunny day and take in the fresh air. Also noticed the owner’s keep a very clean operation, always use gloves when handling food, etc. Don’t hesitate to try this place, especially if you are hungry, and like to support a hard working family. We are retired snowbirds who like to try different dining experiences. This is a great alternative to the traditional sit-down restaurant. Great place for an easy lunch stop while doing errands or shopping in Fort Myers. We’ll be back.

Tortas Locas Y Tacos – Menu with Prices – 4215 Palm Beach Blvd, Fort Myers

Delicious, homemade, authentic, made to order Mexican food. Very good food in a very small family-run establishment. Not fast-food cheap, not fast, and not very spicy. Cash only. On State Road 80 not far from downtown Fort Myers. Recommended! A return visit last weekend was disappointing; there were no other customers on a Saturday morning, yet the owner wouldn’t sell a half-order or cupl of soup (menudo) for $4-$5 as she had previosuly–just a full bowl for $8. Hard to believe this place will be around long, though I hope it stays in business.

CopperMuse Distillery – Menu with Prices – 244 N College Ave #105, Fort Collins

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at CopperMuse! We had a couple drinks and a flight of different vodkas & we were beyond impressed. I got the “Bees-knees” and that’s exactly what it was, the bees knees. My mind was made for me when our lovely server compared it to being tipsy in a bed of flowers and she was right, the drink has lavender vodka in it, yum! My other half got a rum drink that tasted just like apple cider, can’t remember the name. Our flight was equally delicious. Our tour couldn’t really have been better! We were the only two so we had a blast asking all of our questions & getting great answers. The owner definitely knows what he’s doing & I am pleased to have learned a few things about Fort Collins while visiting!

Windward Bar & Grille – Menu with Prices – 282 Windward Passage, Clearwater

I was out with a friend who lives in the area and she suggested we go to Windward. This is one of those little unassuming places tucked in to a strip mall. A few tables were outside and some folks there enjoying the evening. Inside it was clean and inviting. Service was friendly. The pizza was suggested but I opted for the meatball appetizer with extra crostini. Darn near kicked the bowl. I’m still craving those meatballs. I hear them calling my name. Meatballs-get in my bell UPDATE: returned last night, June 18th, with another friend. I ordered the meatball appetizer again, exactly the same thing as the time before. Consistency is key in the restaurant business and these folks have nailed that. It was as presented and tasted just as I remember. Also ordered a bourbon and the waitress asked what type of ice was preferred and how many. Splendid!! I big square cube please!! Friend gave it 2 thumbs up. Have now updated 4 stars to 5. Well done Windward.

Living Vine Organic Cafe – Menu with Prices – 1400 Colonial Blvd #59, Fort Myers

I looked this place up because I was looking for restaurants with healthy choices in Fort Myers. First of all, we really liked the “look” of the café. It’s quite colorful,clean and simply very pretty. The service was very friendly and happy to help us. Also with any questions we had concerning the menu. The menu offers choices for everyone: vegans, vegetarians as well as carnivores. We decided to go with a spinach artichoke Sandwich, the lunch special the “spinach salad bowl” and the falafel salad. My mum and I shared the bowl and the salad and it was very fresh and delicious. My dad was thrilled with the taste of his sandwich as well. After that my parents got a coffee which was very tasty, too. We are very happy that we found that place and I can really recommend going there. Especially if you are looking for fresh food and a menu with healthy options.

UhmazeBowls – Menu with Prices – 6881 Daniels Pkwy, Fort Myers

My wife and I have been to this location multiple times by now and the “bowls” aren’t bad however the prices are steep (even for this area where everything is jacked up higher than the national average since Fort Myers is considered a “resort” town and populated by rich retirees). Also, I don’t feel that the staff is particularly well trained. Every time we have been there, the young pre-pubescent girl stands there with her mouth gaping open, unable to formulate speech. Either we’re both that good looking or she’s not trained to say “hello, how can I help you?” or “hi, can I help you?” The decor itself is not bad, but it’s certainly not better than Starbucks or any other little coffee shop, either. Cheap tables, stools, artificial plants from the local dollar store and cute “go getter” sayings on the walls and that’s about it. If they have a restroom at all, it’s visibly not clear – but you can always easily see the closet with a mop bucket in it and the trash can nearby. For Fort Myers to even have a “smoothie in a bowl” place is a huge deal. It’s still shocking that they would have such a thing here, but the fact that it’s near some colleges is the reason for it’s existence. So I”m grateful it’s even here in such an isolated retirement area; but it could certainly be better. More affordable prices for working-class citizens, better customer service, better restaurant or coffee shop decor (whatever direction they want to go in), more choices, and also it’s not always clear if you’re in a hurry which is a smoothie thingee in a cup or which is a slurpee in a bowl thingee. It’s also good to know that if you get a “bowl” it’s going to be virtually impossible to digest that baby while driving – plus it’s likely to turn to slush within minutes of pulling out. So it’s good but could be improved upon.

River District Cafe – Menu with Prices – 2400 First St unit 101, Fort Myers

Hidden gem for the moment, future is bright for this local fort Myers family and their “just right” cafe. We were warmly greeted by a women named Natalie. She highlighted a couple menu items and told us about how they make their own gravy, biscuits and hollandaise sauce in house. They also serve breakfast all day. Front and center on the menu are these boats and bowls. I opted for the breakfast boat: mine came with bacon, crumbled sausage, melted cheese on an open face biscuit. I had the sauce on the side. I fully expected this thing to come kind of like a cardiac mess – it didn’t! It was quaint and simple. Each item stood well alone. Like stars of an incredible supporting cast. The bacon was thick and yum, the sausage was crumbly, crisp, and peppered. The perfect amount of cheese spread out over the bottom and that biscuit held its own under all that goodness. The piping gravy on the side was fun to dip! With my hot frequently refilled coffee in a real mug and a smile on my face I could’ve gone to hell with myself right then and there and I pretty much did. My husband had the Eggs Benedict and loved it. With food this good I paid little attention to him. Not intending to, I ate my whole boat, not a crumb left behind. When I finally came to, my plate was gone. Pieces of the ambience remind me of off beaten path Austin, corners of Asheville or the non-commercial side of Nashville. We later learned Natalie is part owner with a hand full of cousins and family friends. So I asked her where are you all from? Guess what folks…. FORT MYERS! They are a local Fort Myers family. Could it be. Could it really be we are finally a hip enough town to grow our own damn talent and back the likes of chain restaurants into their place as an exception not the norm… phew! The price is so fair it’s criminal. Two breakfast and coffees, $26 bucks. Kids breakfasts for $3 dollars. I mean…. c’mon. They are across the street from Berne Davis behind Palm Printing (Palm Printing is the forward facing business on First Street) in the clump of buildings, they are right in back. Please welcome this change with your patronage!

West Palm Brewery & Wine Vault – Menu with Prices – 332 Evernia St, West Palm Beach

Saw this Brewery on Yelp a few weeks ago and bookmarked it with excitement. We stopped by to partake in Happy Hour and the restaurant was hosting two separate private parties inside. It was quit loud so we took a table outside on the patio. Our waitress was not as attentive or timely as we could hope for but we assumed she was serving the private parties as well. Our waitress clued us in to the fact that 18 out of 20 of the draft beers offered are brewed in house. Off of the daily draft list I ordered the Five Six One Best Beer in Florida and my boyfriend ordered the Honeybell Wheat beer. The Five Six One beer was my favorite and one I would definitely come back and repeat order. The Honeybell Wheat beer was good but a tad too citrus-y for me. As an appetizer we ordered the Mama’s Meatballs ($12). We were looking forward to this dish from the yelp pictures and the menu illustrations/descriptions and were significantly underwhelmed when we received it. The best part of the dish was the tomato sauce and the cheese. The meatballs were large in portion size and hearty, but had no flavor whatsoever. The meatballs could not have been seasoned and unfortunately there was no salt or pepper on our table either. For our entree we ordered Grandma’s Pizza (with pepperonis). Portion size is enough to feed two. This pizza is advertised as “thick crust,” but it reality is the normal amount of crust you’d receive when ordering a standard pizza from a chain restaurant. I say that to not knock how yummy it is. Again the tomato sauce made this dish what it really was. Overall the pizza was good. Our final beers were The Rescue Dog and Citrus Citrus Citrus. The Rescue Dog is a strong 2nd favorite locally brewed beer. The Citrus Citrus Citrus tasted more like a sweet and tangy cider and tasted okay but was not a top choice for me. I would have ended our evening with the apple cider donuts however, the restaurant was out for the night. I would patronize this restaurant again to give a few other menu items a try as well as knock out a few more beers off the local brewed list.

Bennett’s Fresh Roast Fort Myers – Menu with Prices – 2011 Bayside Pkwy, Fort Myers

Good but not Great! My wife and I just moved to Fort Myers from Southern Indiana. We really like donuts and decided to check this place out. We had lunch first and then left with a couple donuts. The chili dog was good but it wasn’t great. Was told it was really big but in my opinion was just an average size dog and the chili wasn’t as hot as I would have liked although it was tasty. That’s an easy fix. My wife had the Tuna Salad sandwich and really liked that. As for the donuts…..they are just okay compared to what we’ve had in Indiana. We were expecting way more for the price but was disappointed with the quality compared to what we are use too. They were good but not great. We like the donuts that make you yearn for more. We had the cake donut sticks and we love cake donuts but these just didn’t do it for us. Did not try the coffee!

411 South Bar & Grill – Menu with Prices – 411 S Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

It was a typical South Florida Summer Day: sweltering, humid, with surprise rain storms. I was walking my dog on Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd when we were caught in one of those downpours. We stopped at the little “strip mall” to get some cover under their awnings. There are a couple of cafes, souvenirs shops, etc. While we were standing outside 411 South Bar & Grill, Marianna (a bartender) came outside with a large cup of fresh water and fed some to my dog who gulped it up! I wasn’t even a customer! I thought this was supremely kind and decided to stay for a drink. I ordered a frozen margarita which was quite refreshing. I sipped my beverage under the awning while people watching and enjoying the ocean views while it poured. After a while I was hungry and ordered the blackened Mahi sandwich. It was hot, freshly prepared, and very flavorful. It came with steak fries which had an extra crisp on the outside and were also fresh and hot. The service was great and I never felt rushed. When I got the check I saw that I had only been charged for happy hour price for my delicious frozen margarita. They have a daily happy hour with fabulous prices on cocktails. Overall a rainy afternoon turned into a lovely experience thanks to a random act of kindness. Thank you Marianna!

Danny’s Deli Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 10838 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Just had a horrible experience! We are 50 year patrons and I can’t believe what just happened. We ordered a standard Rueben sandwich on rye and it was delivered with the least amount of meat possible. We were really hungry when we arrived so we were looking forward to a nice sandwich. The sandwich was delivered and I commented on the fact that I didn’t see any meat. My guest finished the first half and opened up the second and there was one piece of meat about two inches squared. Meat almost non existent. When I looked at mine and my other guests’ sandwich, it was very similar. We asked the waitress about the deficiency and she told the owner Ellie. Ellie came to the table, and we relayed the same and showed her. She actually said “why didn’t you tell me before you ate the first half?”. I was appalled! Don’t know what she was implying, but I have been to thousands of restaurants and have NEVER been treated like that before. It was obvious that this is the way they make their sandwiches because all of the other sandwiches at our table were almost identical. I have probably eaten over a hundred reuben sandwiches at restaurants and this ranks at the rock bottom….LAST! It’s unfortunate, because the replacement half that they brought us was perfect. It had more meat piled on it than all three sandwiches combined. She was not gracious, she was rude and accusatory. Not the way an owner should act nor treat patrons. It is probably time to sell this to another owner, because this one has lost all sense of customer service. Our family has been nothing but supportive of Danny’s over the decades, and you would think, that a 50 year patron would garner some respect. Not today…Just terrible!
