Let’s start with the good. We were served a complimentary peach tea and it was absolutely delicious. The waitress was extremely friendly and kept our glasses full. Unfortunately, we did encounter a lot of trouble in our first visit. We ordered bulgolgi ($16), galbi ($16), and gimpop ($12). When our food was brought out, they served us both bulgolgi and we had to remind them that one of us ordered galbi. We shared the bulgolgi, and by the time we finished, the galbi arrived. Not ideal. Both the bulgolgi and galbi were flavored well, but were not made with great cuts of meat. As we were eating the galbi, we figured they had just forgotten the gimpop and decided to let it go. As we were just finishing up the galbi, a huge plate of gimpop was placed in front of us. Again, very poorly timed. The gimpop was extremely thick and difficult to eat, and mostly made up of rice. We had to ask for a box to take it because it came so late in the meal and we were finishing up at that point. It’s nice to have a Korean restaurant on the west side, but the other Korean spots in town are better value. This spot would benefit from an appetizer menu — maybe a half order of gimpop could be an option. As it is, the prices are far too high for the quality received and the timing and mistakes were more than a bit frustrating.

NolaKorea Korean Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3120 Cleary Ave Suite A, Metairie

I was excited to try out the newest Korean restaurant in NOLA. After seeing the good reviews and pics, I just had to try it out with some friends. I am not so fond of the location and it is the fourth Korean restaurant in Metairie. My friends and I missed the restaurant while driving on Cleary Ave, we only saw “Korean Restaurant” on top of the restaurant. We did not notice the actual NolaKorea sign on the other side of the building. The place was much smaller than expected, but it was clean with one unisex restroom. There’s a screen with the menu with a picture of each item, which was nice to help us choose what we wanted. We ordered the Beef Fried Rice, Galbi, Jeyuk-Bokkeum, Ganjang Chicken, and Tofu Jjigae. Food didn’t take too long to come out. It seems to just come out in whatever finishes first, not by appetizers and entrees. Korean fried chicken is one of the things I always look forward to when I go to a Korean restaurant. It’s usually nice and crispy with a slight glaze of their signature Korean sauces. We had their Teriyaki sauced chicken wings and it wasn’t crispy, it was soggy and more on the salty side. We were not a fan of the fried rice at all, they put way too much bell pepper in and it overpowered the dish. It was only good to fill up our stomachs. The galbi was decent, it’s hard to mess up but it just tasted slightly off. It was cooked nicely though. The sweetness was there, but I can’t describe what it was missing. The tofu soup was piping hot and good, but it could have used some more flavor. The tofu was cooked perfectly and just melted in your mouth. The best dish that we ordered was the Jeyuk-Bokkeum and there was a perfect balance of spicy and flavor. It wasn’t too saucy and went well with rice. Last but not least, the banchan was just there for us. I usually enjoy eating banchan at every Korean place, but I did not care for it. Overall, a decent Korean place in NOLA. We don’t have many Korean places to begin with, but this place was just average to me. I would rather go to the other Korean restaurants. I would probably give this place another chance and try different dishes one day.

Dan Sung Sa – Menu with Prices – 3530 Mall Blvd NW, Duluth

Oh My God!!! I think I just found my new favorite spot for Galbi Jjim! All I wanted was some cheap bulgogi from Mega Mart but Dragon and his daddy didn’t wanna go in there to eat cuz it’s freeezing in there! So I Yelped Korean and we were rite here next to Gwinnett Mall and the pix of the galbi jjim looked sooo good I was like WE GOTTA GO HERE! There was NOBODY in here and Dragon Daddy was like how good could it be if it’s empty? AF?? But we came and sat and ordered… The steam egg was $9.95!!! Laaawd! Coulda bought 6 dozens for that price but.. It IS a restaurant and It’s bomb too.. and ofcourse we got the galbi jjim spicy.. So the small is 6 ribs. Medium is 9 ribs and Large has 12 ribs. We got 9 so we could take sum home too. It’s dark in here with posters and records every where.. Karaoke room is like class rooms. Weird but watevers.. I’ve been here before after hours to chill after the club. But tonite was family dinner nite. Usually my favorite place for galbi jjim is at Jang Su Jang. And Myung summin’.. oh and Haewoondae. Lawd I can’t spell these Korean restaurants and don’t feel like looking them up but.. Back to the ribs! I love this one cuz it’s actually ON the ribs and the meat melted off piece by piece. Ummm so effin’ good! I don’t care how dark or how inattentive the server was cuz these ribs was bangin’! Go try it!!!

Meega Korean – Menu with Prices – 4070 Jermantown Rd, Fairfax

Visited this establishment with my family, and we were bit disappointed at the foods we were served. Upon entrance, we were greeted by a friendly staff member. We ordered 3 portions of Galbi and 1 dish or spicy octopus /galbi. The banchan(s) were decent. Nothing remarkable tho. After waiting for about few minutes, the meats were brought out and the staff member started to cook the meat for us. I was shocked at the amount of fat that the meat had. The meats were super fatty and we could only taste the fats. Felt super oily. The spicy octopus-galbi was very disappointing as well. Unlike the display, which looked absolutely amazing, the octopus was uncooked, and the texture of the galbi was really cheap. The quality of the food was really disappointing. I’m giving 2 stars because the staff members were super friendly, the service was pretty quick, and the restaurant was fairly clean. However, I dont think we will visit this place again anytime soon.

Joy Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 1455 Buckingham Rd, Richardson

A small and friendly hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is affordable and delicious! One of my favorite places to get homemade Korean dishes. The quantity and quality of food that you get for the price is completely unbelievable! A couple of dishes we’ve tried before are: – LA Galbi: this dish is generally pricey regardless of restaurant. At Joy Kitchen, the dish is $16, which is cheaper than most places that we’ve been to. In addition to the cheaper price, the quality of meat was amazing! They were thick, tender, and juicy! The restaurant also didn’t skimp out on the amount if meat either. The marinade is a bit on the sweeter side. However, the dish is still highly recommended! – Spicy Beef Soup: the soup was flavorful with just the right amount of spiciness. Again, the restaurant didn’t skimp out on the ingredients. Also highly recommended! Another great dish that is also a must try is their Osam (spicy stir fried squid and pork belly) (not pictured). The sauce has a perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, and spiciness! Overall, this is a great and affordable restaurant to satisfy your Korean homemade food cravings!!

Gen Korean BBQ House – Menu with Prices – 9292 Warren Pkwy #150, Frisco

I’ve now been twice to this recently opened restaurant, once with my daughter and two grandkids, once for lunch on my own. GEN features AYCE (all you can eat) Korean BBQ, $26 for dinner ( 1/2 price for 10-yr olds or under, no senior discounts) and $17 for lunch. But weekends are all at dinner pricing. There is a good variety of offerings. A brisket was one I hadn’t encountered (and I lived in Korea for a while) but it turned out to be quite good – lots of slices, quick to cook, delicious with the dipping sauce. The bone-in galbi was very good; the bone-out galbi was not as well received. The latter was in chunks of varying size and thus cooked at different rates. Several were found to be “stringy” and that doesn’t fly with youngsters. Subsequent cycles only included the bone-in. The bulgogi was quite good. Not the best but then our doing our own cooking versus having more expert cooks at other places could be a factor. And that is something to consider when going to GEN. You will be doing the cooking. While that is fun, it does add to the dining time and also means you’ll have ample time NOT eating. The staff have always been very good at swapping out the metal cooking surface which avoid carbon build-up. Good marks for being on top of that element! Besides the bone-out galbi, the spicy pork belly we tried was also not a great success. First off, it was hard to unroll. It also was more difficult to cut with the meat scissors; that perhaps was our own inexperience, but nevertheless, it didn’t go smoothly. It cooked very slowly. The crispy result was acceptable to my daughter and me but the kids didn’t relish it at all. With only two of us sharing, we wound up scorching the last couples of pieces from neglect. While I note a couple of unsuccessful choices, I emphasize that we had a great time and I also greatly enjoyed my solo lunch (and kudos to Joseph for exceptional service!) The kids have been anxious to visit again and they are quite choosy about favored places. I also intend to make this one of my regular lunch places. One further note. The first time, Korean Hite beer was only available in the large bottle and given all the food we had, that proved a challenge for me to finish (my daughter helped out at the end). Now Hite is on tap. As I developed a liking for Hite while in Korea, that is a nice extra.

Hansol Nutrition Center – Menu with Prices – 160-26 Northern Blvd, Flushing

Don’t let the name or unassuming storefront deter you from eating here because it’s truly a local gem. Entering, you already know the food is going to be good when there’s Korean aunties and uncles staffing the restaurant and dining in. The hospitality we received from the waitstaff was superb and food was delicious and filling for an affordable price. This is the spot to get your fix of Korean stews and soups with plenty of options to choose from but don’t sleep on the donkatsu! What’s even better is that they also give a bunch of different banchan (side dishes) and free refills as well. Donkatsu: The fried pork loin was huge and pictures don’t do it justice. I already expected the portions to be big yet the size still surprised me when it arrived at the table. The cutlet was perfectly fried and tender. The house made sauce had a hint of tomato/ketchup and was tasty. You can finish it yourself but it would be a good dish to share. Galbi tang: Your typical beef short rib in a beef broth with some radish, glass noodles, leeks, and egg. The meat was tender and soup wasn’t too salty which I appreciated. Korean pancake: Lots and lots of leek with some crunch but little to no seafood. Not my favorite but there’s plenty of other options on the menu. The yogurt drink (similar to yakult) they give you at the end of the meal was a nice touch. I can’t wait to try out some of their other items the next time.

Korean Garden Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 12773 E 41st, Tulsa

This place used to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Tulsa. I don’t know what has gone wrong but sadly the quality has declined recently. They used to have great service, good food, and reasonable prices. At our last visit the service was terrible, the food selection on their menu has decreased with some of the best menu options no longer available, and the prices have increased. There is a Korean grocery store next door which is nice when you need to stock up on some asian staples and what not. I brought my parents here and after being seated and looking at the menu we actually ended up not ordering anything and leaving to go to a different Korean restaurant close by. The interior is nice and clean and the parking is ample but these other shortcomings make this place a difficult recommend. It would do in a pinch I suppose if you came for their lunch specials but otherwise there are better Korean options a block or two away.

Power House Deli – Menu with Prices – 808 Pease St, Houston

I eat here almost every day after a workout and the food is fantastic. Any of the daily specials are good but my personal favorites are the Thai Chicken Wrap and the Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich. Taco Tuesday is awesome as well and I recommend the Korean tacos with bulgolgi beef. Tony and crew are great and prices are reasonable for downtown.

Inter Korea House – Menu with Prices – 4731 NC-55, Durham

My husband and I just finished lunch at the Inter Korean House restaurant in RTP. The food was only average – nothing special. The Bento boxes we ordered had 4 banchans (side dishes) included in the box – these little dishes are usually served separately (they are side dishes!) and instead, other items, such as a piece of sushi roll, a couple pieces of tempura vegetable, or a dumpling are usually included in the box along with the entre of your choice and rice. My husband ordered the “spicy” squid bulgogi – it was definitely NOT Korean spicy! It was very mildly spiced. And the squid was overcooked, so chewy rather than tender as we have had elsewhere. What a disappointment! But what really annoyed us was that the box contained 2-3 little pieces of Kimchi so we asked if we could get a little more. The waitress refused saying we would have to pay. Now we have been in many Korean restaurants and NOT ONCE have we been refused more kimchi – the ubiquitous food served at every meal in Korea – and it is pickled cabbage for heaven’s sake, not exactly an expensive item. We asked if she would talk to her boss and she said she was the boss. I asked her to reconsider and she said “No!” I left no tip (since she was our waitress I didn’t feel bad that I would be stiffing some innocent waitress), and told her on our way out that “we would not be back”. For the busy lunchtime in the RTP area, the place only had customers at about 7 tables, so maybe her poor attitude and lack of customer service have something to do with the low attendance. WE WON’T BE BACK!

678 Korean BBQ – Menu with Prices – 3880 Satellite Blvd, Duluth

I managed to drag my husband and son back to Duluth to check out this truly authentic KBBQ joint tonight…before heading toward Atlanta. We arrived for a super-early dinner, around 5 pm, so we easily slid right in and we ordered several different cuts/types of meats (Seasoned Galbi, Seasoned Beef Rib Finger and Seared Pork Belly), which again comes with an array of sides, as well as rice and soup. As expected, both my husband and son thoroughly enjoyed it. Well, my son is an extremely finicky eater (not just Korean, but all types of foods – ethnic or not), but he really liked the meats (he’s not into rice or the sides). But on the most part, we slurped it all up! My husband and son both agreed that this coal-fired BBQ version was much better than the one we had back in Charlotte…and even the cuts of meats were of better quality. So basically, mission accomplished. They now know how truly great Korean BBQ can be…when done right. I only wish Charlotte will host more, better KBBQ restaurants in the future. BTW, a quick back-story. I read somewhere that this chain of Korean BBQ restaurants are owned by this famous Korean sumo wrestler turned comedian…and he’s prominently displayed as part of this restaurant’s quirky decor. (I’ve even included a pic as a point of reference!) The restaurant itself is super-casual and rather well lived in…and it definitely has that comical touch, thanks to this sumo-comedian’s mug and body shots everywhere lol! Let’s just say that this place has character…Funny! I’ve tried a few other highly rated KBBQ’s in Duluth in the past few years, including the ever-popular, super-attractive Breakers…but in my opinion, 678 is the best in terms of food quality. If anyone travels to Korea Town in Duluth, I highly recommend checking out this place!

Hanami Sushi & Grill – Menu with Prices – 11811 Mukilteo Speedway, Everett

My favorite sushi place in the Pacific Northwest as it is only minutes away from home. Located off of the Mukilteo Speedway, this restaurant is always one I love coming back to since their whole staff is friendly and welcoming. I am a huge fan of their tempura shrimp roll and their Katsu. Although the rolls may be big, they are super tasty and flavorful, as they are some of my favorite sushi rolls ever. Their super crunch roll, mountain roll, and volcano roll are also good options to choose from if you’re looking for sushi. Their katsu don and their spicy pork bulgolgi are great options too. They both come with a miso soup and the bulgolgi comes with a salad and bowl of rice. The katsu breading is very flavorful and the bulgolgi is always sizzling hot when it comes out! Their chicken teriyaki is okay – I would definitely choose something else as an option for lunch or dinner! Hanami is definitely a place that you won’t want to miss. The only thing after coming here for 10+ years is that they increase their prices over the years. I guess good food comes with a price; however Hanami is definitely worth visiting if you’re in Mukilteo!

California Tofu Grill – Menu with Prices – 1993 W Malvern Ave, Fullerton

I didn’t go to this place for a while because I thought it was like a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s Korean food. I love tofu soup, I mean who doesn’t? For the most part tofu soup is pretty similar wherever you go so you can really differentiate which places are better by 2 things: side dishes and broth flavor. FOOD: 5/5 So the food here is standard. Lets start with the side dishes. The banchan here is good, they have good kimchi and they also give you a little salad. My favorite banchan was thechive pancake and the stir fried green beans. The pancake was warm and crispy so you know it’s fresh and the green beans were nice and crunchy. Also the little fish that comes with the soup was also freshly cooked. Crispy and hot when we received it. Now onto the main. I always get the oyster tofu soup, my brother got the bibimbap combo with cheese and ham tofu soup, while my sister got the beef patty combo with seafood tofu soup. As always, it was delicious. Extremely hot and bubbly, perfect amount of seasoning. The seafood really gives the broth a deep flavor. The ham and cheese was good as well, similar to army stew. The bibimbap was sizzling and stayed hot throughout the entire meal. The beef patties were really good as well. The server cuts it up for you so that’s nice. Sweet and salty served on a sizzling pan of onions so the grease gets soaked up. Everything was delicious. SERVICE: 4.5/5 The service here is better than some other Korean restaurants . The ladies were very sweet and they were constantly working. They seat everyone and bus their own tables so even though there were moments when I needed a water refill it was understandable. Overall this is a great tofu place, even if you’re not a fan of tofu soup there are plenty of other options. Great side dishes and entrees so I have no complaints.
