Thursday night dinner at New Indian Village. Anytime you attend a buffet you immediately lower your expectations for taste and quality. Thankfully that has never been the case for this establishment. We have been going here since it was called New Asian Village. Food is fresh, every dish has a distinct flavour, colour and texture; not a muddled collection of brown sludge. Great options are available for vegetarians, and delicious options for the omnivores. Additionally there is a tandoori oven that is manned all the time pumping out fresh naan bread. The chunky cutlery, hand hammered copper water goblets and detailed decor make this an interesting place to dine. The delicious hot food, unrushed vibe and friendly staff keep us coming back. $20 per person is a fair price. My only two wishes are for a better labeled condiment and salad bar – looks great, no idea what they are. Secondly, I get that they are catering to the broadest tastes, but I would love some spicy heat, which you may get with the condiments, but I can’t tell what is what. That being said, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Fang Gourmet Tea – Menu with Prices – 135-25 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing

The quality of their tea is their saving grace, and the only reason I gave two stars instead of one. My friends and I stopped here to try some of their tea (this place provides a tea-tasting service to let you try before you buy.) Normally, I appreciate services like this, and to be fair, they do give you more than just one sip during the testing. They give you 5-7 little cups (about 2-3 mouthfuls), showing you the different flavors as the tea is steeped and resteeped multiple times. Their teas are good quality, and it shows during the tasting. But these people totally rip you off due to how payment for the tea tasting service is set up. They charge per tea, per person. So, if you have a group of four people, and Person A wishes to try an Oolong for $10, that person will pay $10. That’s fine. But what isn’t fine is if Person A would like to share the tea that they paid for with the other three people, those other three now have to pay not for their own set of tea, but for the same amount of tea already provided to Person A. So, if Person B from the group takes so much as a sip from Person A’s Oolong, they now owe $10 as well. It’s the SAME AMOUNT OF TEA. They do not make extra tea for Person B. They do not get their own set of tea leaves. They are now paying $20 for the exact same amount of tea as before, using the same tea leaves. If all 4 people wanted to try that same Oolong, it would be $40 total, but the shop is still only spending the same amount of resources as they would for 1 person. And, to top it off, the guy steeping the tea sits with you and he drinks the extra tea. Instead of allowing Person A to share the leftover tea with B, C and D, the guy steeping the tea drinks the extra tea himself. That $10 was for the tea. It should be mine to do with as I please, and I do NOT want to pay for him to drink the leftover tea himself. I will not be coming back to this place. It’s a shame, because their tea really is quite good, but their business model is shit. Oh well. There are other places that sell quality tea.

Fair Oaks Deli – Menu with Prices – 3700 Joseph Siewick Dr # 103, Fairfax

There is not a lot of food options when one is over at Fair Oaks Hospital or any of the several medical buildings adjacent to the hospital. There is of course the cafeteria in the hospital – but you also have the option of checking out Fair Oaks Deli – located in the 3700 Building. I had breakfast here after my Doctor’s appointment. They serve breakfast through 11:00 am. Ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on an English muffin and a small coffee. I requested they lightly butter the English muffin – which they did. Sandwich was hot and delicious! Coffee was average, but not bad. There are about eight tables to sit and dine in at. An ATM is available as well. The Deli offers a variety of lunch options: hot and cold sandwiches and subs, wraps, salads, side orders such as cole slaw, macaroni and potato salad and assorted desserts. You can get your food to go – and they offer catering services as well! $5.00 minimum on credit card orders. So next time you are at Fair Oaks Hospital or one of the medical buildings – check out Fair Oaks Deli!

Herb & Beet – Menu with Prices – 448 Sawdust Rd, Spring

I’ve been wanting to check out this place for a while and I finally tried it out today. First of all, the ambiance, decor, and interior finishes are great. It’s open, airy, and inviting. The menu has good healthy and less healthy options. I chose the Health Nut salad and it was delish, super fresh (you can tell they don’t skimp on the ingredients), and actually filling. The person in front of me got the brisket and cornbread and it looked amazing as well. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I was debating between two salads and the manager helped me chose. I sat down and did some work (free wi-fi, yay!) and one of their staff members kept coming by making sure my water cup was full the entire time I was there. Also, whoever is choosing the playlist is a-ok in my book and can come DJ at my next party anytime! I will be back to this little gem!

Cafe Saint Pio – Menu with Prices – 99 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids

I’m always looking for new, interesting places and this fit the bill. Located in Czech village, it’s a great addition to the area. Cute little coffee shop that’s got a lot going for it. They’ve only been open a few days, but seem to have a lot going for them already. The staff is delightful, and the ambiance is comfortable. The food was delicious. We went for lunch and were delighted with everything. The menu is not large, but covers a lot f or breakfast and lunch. Quiche, sandwiches, soup, French toast and pastries with a coffee bar. Wonderful place for a quiet outing!

Bouffe Dave Plant Food – Menu with Prices – 1206 Boul de Maisonneuve E, Montréal

Dave Plant is an awesome addition to the interesting things popping up in the NoVill (North Village) area. There is a revitalization happening north of Saint-Catherine that is reflective of the changes the Village is about to go though and it’s exciting to see Dave Plant be a leader in this transition. The shop features great coffee, amazing pastries, and delicious breakfast and lunch items such as whole-grain salads, sandwiches, soups. Everything is prepared with local and seasonal ingredients, which is refreshing compared to some of the other older establishments in the area. I had a coffee and a chocolate chip cookie on my first visit. There is an attention to detail invested their pastries that make them desirable even at a quick glance. The chocolate chip cookie, while a classic, was unique on its own with chili peppers offering an extra kick that matched perfectly with my coffee. The location is just a block up from Beaudry Metro and across from Le Red Tiger. The interior is adorable with picnic style tables, a sitting nook, and two outside benches. The details of the decor have been considered and they don’t go unnoticed. I could see this being a great place for a quick lunch break, a casual business meeting, or even a place to hang out and work while you sip your coffee and have a bite. The staff is very prompt and friendly. A must visit. Recommendation: It’s great to see a focus on third wave coffee, but I’d love to be able to pair the amazing pastries with espresso-based drinks.

Various Artists Brewing – Menu with Prices – 1011 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville

This is by far my favorite spot in Nashville. My husband and I first went in while we had family visiting. We were lured in by a Facebook post about charcoal grilled burgers and, of course, the beers! We next checked their website to see other possible food options, as we had a vegetarian coming along. The FAQs section of the website was not only super informative but had a certain wit and humor to it that sealed the deal! We went in for an early dinner and beers and were BLOWN AWAY! Immediately walking in we were greeted by the friendly, laid back staff and we felt right at home. We chatted with the inviting young woman working the counter! We sat and quickly made friends with customers around us. Our beers were delicious and cold and the food…. TO DIE FOR. The prices are more than fair, food fresh and good portioned. My husband and I went back last week for our second visit ; a little Sunday Funday. We were hoping they would have burgers cooking again, or really anything on the grill but they were still working on figuring out the prime hours to have their food menu running. We totally get it. We chatted with Pat, working the bar, and some folks sitting next to us. We stayed for almost two hours enjoying beers and some community bread (delicious) and olive oil dipping sauce that was set out. We cannot say enough about the service, quality of product and overall GOOD ENERGY of this spot. It is a small space, which really, adds to the cool vibe and community feel. We will be back at least once a week. Make sure to bring a growler so you can take some beer home with you !!! Family friendly – great prices – great staff – very clean – great atmosphere – delicious, fresh food – funky decor – games – great front patio – COLD BEER!

Sweet Wishes Menu with Prices 10889 Perkins Rd # B, Baton Rouge

Sweet Wishes is AMAZING!! You must try the Chocolate White Chocolate and the White Chocolate Raspberry cupcakes…yum! Sweet Wishes will change your life! No really…you’ll become addicted!

Brewed Cafe & Pub – Menu with Prices – 603 Main St, Vancouver

Ummm…kind of reluctant to brag on this place because it’s such a good find. But, that’s not fair, is it? Great find in downtown Vancouver, Washington. Super friendly staff. Amazing decor and quiet loft sitting area. Food was fresh, delish and their pastry cooler was full of regular, vegan & gluten free options. My husbands breakfast sandwich was so big it served him both breakfast and lunch!! And as coffee snobs… gotta say, this was some of the best coffee I’ve ever had! Lunch menu looks just as good as the breakfast, SUPER fresh made to order! And they have beer on tap, bottles, wine but has not been updated on their website yet. I do NOT think you will regret checking this place out.

Las Veguitas Restaurant Menu with Prices 6333 S Kings Hwy, Alexandria

A friend recommended coming here, and what a great recommendation! Don’t be discouraged by the somewhat “iffy” area. You may see a homeless person outside but do go in and dine here! In fact, my friend does the health inspections here, and she says this establishment passes with flying colors all the time! Very clean place! The staff spoke very little English but are totally gracious and accommodating. They brought us the Botana Las Veguitas which is a basically a sampler platter, and everything was delicious! The fried chicken, the steak, the yucca – all perfect. The tacos de Asada and the pupusas were excellent. All very flavorful without being too salty. I will be returning again with a big group of friends!!!

Hilltop Cafe – Menu with Prices – 10955 Lowell Ave, Overland Park

I found the dine-in lunch service to be fast, and friendly. The two ladies worked well together. My turkey club melt had delicious bread, and plenty of tasty turkey with fresh veggies. Many chips options were available including my favorite veggie straws. They also offered ice cream bars, salads, soups, and some candy. The price was reasonable ($7.49 for sandwich, chips and a drink). It’s a good option if you find yourself in or near the Prosperity Advisors building.

Brass Knuckles Ink – Menu with Prices – 872 Gerard Ave 2nd Floor, The Bronx

Brass Knuckles Inc is what this neighborhood was missing! This tattoo shop is clean, great decor, the spot is spacious and lit up with natural light shining through, not dark and dingy like some old school basement tattoo shop. The staff is friendly, talented, and so professional! The tattoo artists there are very talented, detailed, and each brings their own unique style to the table. Iâ??ve gotten tatted a few times by Edwin and his work is amazing. Iâ??ll definitely be back for more!! If youâ??re in town check them out!!

Magnolia Caffee – Menu with Prices – 1218 NE 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale

After driving by this cute little house cafe a few times, we finally stopped in and it did not disappoint! They have a nice menu, full of things like waffles, avocado toast, sandwiches, and pastries. My dad got the magnolia waffle, and it looked delicious and tasted even better. The whole place also smells like fresh waffles which is so nice. I got a slice of the apple cake displayed in the front ($2), and it was full of fresh apples and so great. The woman there told us that they make various cakes and pastries depending on what is in season, which I was very happy to hear. My dad got a decaf coffee ($2) and said it was fresh and great, and I got a raspberry magnolia cappuccino with almond milk ($3.75). They even put crushed freeze dried raspberries on top and it was so interesting and good. The service was great and the man and woman there (that I believe are the owners) were so so nice, and sweet. The decor is cool, interesting, and eclectic, and they even told us that a lot of the art and things in there are for sale. It is basically a little house with lots of different little areas to sit in so it could be great for groups, or even to come and do some work by yourself. The whole place was very clean, and the fresh flower on every table was a nice touch. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. It was very reasonably priced. Everything was homemade and delicious, and the people and the service there just made everything even better! I will definitely come here again to see what pastries they have next and try some more things on their menu!:)
