I have mixed feelings about Piece of Cake. On the one hand, their in-store bakery items are fantastic. And I always see beautiful wedding and event cakes on display. My husband and I ordered a small cake for our wedding. We asked for it to look like the 5th Harry Potter book, and showed a picture of what we wanted, and the person we met with said that wouldn’t be a problem. She said they would take a 9×13 cake, cut it in half, and stack it, resulting in a (approximately) 9×6.5 inch cake. Because of this description, we got an 8×10 cake stand. When my dad picked up the cake, it had not been cut in half, nor had the edges been trimmed. Because it was so large, the printout they used for the cover of the book was too small to reach the edges. They used blue frosting to cover the rest of the cake, but it didn’t match the blue of the printout, and was so thin in places that you could see the bare cake. The “sculpting” of the book consisted of a line of piped icing that was not smoothed in very well for the spine, and a quick swipe with a zigzag scraper for the pages. The taste of the cake (raspberry champagne) was amazing though. So it’s hard to give an accurate rating. For taste, it’s definitely 5 stars. Presentation was about 1. We will be back though, I’m sure, to order raspberry champagne simple cupcakes. Photos are what we expected (one layer instead of 4) and what we received.

Cakin’ it Up Menu with Prices 452 Dix Creek One Rd, Leicester

Sabrina did an AMAZING job on my wedding cake this last weekend. I got a three tier cake with 2 dozen cupcakes. The cupcakes were almond flavored and the cake was split up into 3 different flavors: carrot on top; chocolate in middle; champagne on bottom; and all with a raspberry filling and swiss meringue buttercream for icing… IT WAS PHENOMENAL! Everyone loved the flavors. A favorite seemed to be the champagne (don’t know how to explain the flavor, you just gotta try it). I also had her do buttercream flowers that cascaded down the cake onto the cupcakes. It was soooo sooo beautiful. I couldn’t stop looking at it. She truly outdid herself and beyond exceeded my expectations. She was easy to communicate with, very dependable and I didn’t have to worry about a thing on my wedding day. I loved working with her and I honestly miss that cake! I will make sure to upload a picture when I get one. Thank you Sabrina for making my wedding day all the more magical.

Wedding Cakes By Jim Smeal – Menu with Prices – 657 N Sterling Dr, Charleston

JIM SMEAL made our wedding cake years ago and my husband and i still talk about our amazing cake. It is still to this day the best wedding cake I have ever tasted (and we thought that at the tasting) Jim truly makes cakes that are as tasty as they and are beautiful! Over the years, we have ordered mini cakes for birthdays and anniversaries and his work has always been consistent. When you’ve been making cakes for decades that’s not always true. If you want a truly memorable cake for any occasion have your cake made by Jim Smeal (I love them all but recommend the white chocolate with real raspberry puree filling . It’s icing is light and not overly sweet like a lot of weekend cakes. The cake is so moist and just as good for our first anniversary as it was our wedding day)

Moon Maiden?s Delights – Menu with Prices – 112 W Main St suite 12, Charlottesville

My husband and I needed a vegan wedding cake for our wedding in May 2019, and we approached Sidney, having had her yummy vegan treats both at the Charlottesville farmer’s market and at her bakery. (As of May 2019, she was also the only baker in the Charlottesville area who could do a vegan wedding cake, at least according to my research — go Sidney!) We had a three tier cake with lemon poppyseed cake and lemon icing for the outer two tiers and almond cake and maple pecan icing for the middle tier. Those flavor combinations might sound a little weird, but they were incredible! Apart from the flavors, I absolutely loved the fresh flowers from a local florist adorning the cake. But what I appreciated most about my wedding cake was that I could fully enjoy it without feeling heavy after eating it, because it was actually healthy! I am sensitive to sugar, and I can crash pretty quickly after bakery treats, especially ones with icing. I didn’t want that to happen at my wedding. I also didn’t want icing, in particular, made of vegan butter, which is just a bunch of oil and shortening. Sidney’s cake was delicious and indulgent and beautiful, but healthy and uplifting at the same time! I didn’t have to compromise.

Cameo Cakes – Menu with Prices – 2403 W 13th St N, Wichita

The flavors are nothing more than your typical supermarket box mix – they’re not bad at all but they’re not gourmet either (however you aren’t paying for gourmet so it’s okay). I do feel though that corners were cut on the groom’s cake but obviously there was nothing we could do about it because we didn’t know exactly what the cake looked like until it showed up just before the wedding (to be more specific – we agreed to text being piped on with icing but instead an ugly screen print was placed on the cake in lieu of the icing – an ugly shortcut). The wedding cake was pretty though and pretty close to what I originally wanted. We had to tweek the design a few weeks before the wedding though b/c they’re somewhat limited in decorating skill. I was originally told that gilding could be done and then was told it couldn’t be during my final design meeting – so frustrating! Overall not bad for the price but definitely not a magazine cake. You get what you pay for.

Shamane’s Bake Shoppe – Menu with Prices – 2825 Wilderness Pl #800, Boulder

We hand-selected Shamane’s Bake Shoppe from an entire list of bakeries to create our dream wedding cake for our Winter Wonderland Wedding in January. We had previously tasted a wedding cake Shamane had made for my brother’s wedding several years prior, and we remembered how delicious it was. We had a wonderful cake-tasting meeting with Shamane at her bakery in Boulder, sampling six different flavors of cake (all were delicious, moist, rich, and very edible). We chose our top three flavors (Almond Raspberry, Gingerbread Caramel, Lemon Ricotta) and couldn’t have been happier with how grand the flavoring turned out to be. We told Shamane exactly what we wanted for the design of the cake – Three Tier, White Buttercream Icing and Fondant Icing with Draping. We also asked for Sugared “Frosted” Berries to accent. Shamane is truly a wonderful person. She is sweet, thoughtful, welcoming and an absolute pleasure to work with. She is also an extraordinary pastry chef. She was a great asset to our wedding team. Our wedding day took place during a beautiful January snow storm (perfect for our theme) and Shamane made quite the exciting, snowy drive from Boulder to Littleton to deliver our cake. She was perfectly timed, and the moment we saw the cake, we were blown away. It was more magnificent, elegant and beautiful than we were expecting, and we already knew it was going to be gorgeous ? We received so many compliments from our guests, saying it was the most beautiful wedding cake they have ever seen and how delicious it was. It definitely was the most beautiful, unique wedding cake we’ve ever seen, and it truly was our dream cake in reality. The design was definitely “us” and what exactly we wanted. The taste was impeccable and the best flavor/texture we’ve ever had. We are beyond pleased with Shamane and the beautiful Winter Wonderland Fairytale Wedding Cake she created for us. Shamane sent a very nice card after our wedding and is making us a fresh cake tier in our favorite flavor for our First Anniversary. She knows how to make her clients feel special. We highly recommend Shamane and Shamane’s Bake Shoppe for any wedding, birthday, or other celebration you are planning!

Charity Fent Cake Design – Menu with Prices – 3534 E Sunshine St suite f, Springfield

CF Cake Design was recommended to me by our wedding photographer. I was told that if I wanted a beautiful and delicious cake, that she is the best. My (now) husband and I met Charity at a wedding expo for our cake tasting â?? we decided to go with a white cake, triple berry filling, and buttercream frosting. I wanted a clean and classic look for our three-tiered cake with champagne and white colored gum paste flowers for the top. A month or so after our tasting it was time to decide on the flowers for the top of the cake. My (now) husband and I had recently visited Charleston and fell in love with Magnolia Plantation while we were there, so we knew we wanted at least one of the flowers to be a beautiful magnolia blossom. My absolute favorite flowers are peonies, so I requested that as our other flower â?? I wanted them to be a beautiful champagne color to match our wedding colors. Charity suggested that I also pick a filler flower to fill in any spaces that would be left on the top of the cake, so I chose hydrangeas. Several times I made it clear that I wanted both the magnolia and peonies to be the main flowers on the top of the cake, so if the cake size needed increased to accommodate both, that would be fine. I was reassured that the current cake tier sizes would be sufficient, so the flowers and cake remainder were paid for and we waited anxiously for our wedding day to arrive. Our wedding day arrived and our ceremony was beautiful. We had hired a wedding coordinator to set-up our reception venue, as we didnâ??t want a family member to stress over such details. When we arrived at the reception venue, our wedding coordinator met my husband and I outside and informed us that everything was set-up and beautiful, but there was an issue with the cake. We were told that Charity had informed our coordinator that both the magnolias and the peonies were too large for our top tier of the cake, so Charity had made the decision to use only the magnolia and hydrangea flowers â?? and both were plain white. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed, but I tried to not let it ruin our day. Whatâ??s upsetting is the fact that we still had to pay for all of the gum paste flowers that were used, even though none of my beloved peonies were used on the cake. I will note that the cake was very moist and delicious. Itâ??s too bad it did not have the aesthetic appeal that we had requested for our special day.

Cakes So Simple – Menu with Prices – 273 Babcock St, Melbourne

While planning my flroida wedding all the way from Kentucky, I found Cakes So Simple through a Google search. After reading the reviews I decided to give them a go for my wedding and groom’s cake. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! We had chocolate cake for the groom’s cake and for our top tier of the wedding cake. It was sinfully delicious. The rest of our wedding cake consisted of Key lime and strawberry cupcakes and they were super delicious. The frosting was sweet without being overly sugary. We wanted a specific design on the groom’s cake and they nailed It! They were awesome to work with and super responsive via email. I could not be happier with my decision to go with Cakes So Simple!!

Wonder Cake Creations – Menu with Prices – 1464 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota

Wonder Cake Creations was one of my favorite wedding vendors. Cake has always been one of my favorite party essential! The cake must be beautiful and taste beautiful. In Sarasota, that’s hard to find! After trying to contact an bakery in LWR and having them lose my appointment I found Wonder Cake Creations and contacted them right away! David was able to get me in the same day for a consultation and then we scheduled a tasting. I fell in love with our wedding cake and the compliments have been so nice! Th cake was delicious and all around beautiful. We chose lemon raspberry and coconut pineapple! David and Rocio were such a pleasure to work with and their new location at the Rosemary District is amazing!

Gallardo’s Cakes and Bakery – Menu with Prices – 215 Dover Rd, Clarksville

Poor customer service. We met with the owner in January to do a tasting for my daughter’s wedding cake. We picked out the flavors and icing. Owner states she makes the best cakes and no one does as good of a job as she does. She stated her cake stays moist for a week. She stated she would deliver the cake the day before the wedding we just had to pay $150 refundable deposit to ensure the cake stand equipment was returned. She took the paperwork and told us to come back six months before the wedding to finalize the order. We go back and it is a totally different story. She acted as if she did not want to be bothered with making the cake. Told us WE could pick up the cake 3 days before the wedding but she would not recommend it because it would not be moist. Totally different story. Not trustworthy at all.

Melissa is SO talented with her creative flavors and designs that I was instantly drawn to her when booking a baker for our wedding. Because we were having a very small and intimate wedding of only 36 guests Melissa gave us a box full of cupcakes for our cake tasting! She not only filled the box with the options we wanted to try but she also gave us many more options of her very best recommendations. I must admit that they were all so very delicious that it made it very hard to choose! We settled on a 3-tiered marble and red velvet “naked” cake. The top and bottom tiers were marble and the middle tier was red velvet, all covered in buttercream icing. We also had Melissa make caramel-dipped Granny Smith apples for us and our guests as a delicious wedding favor. We received so many compliments over how beautiful the cake was and how delicious the cake and the apples were! I’m so glad I stumbled upon Melissa and were able to book her for our most important and special day. Thank you Melissa!!

De la Creme Creative Studio – Menu with Prices – 1709 Washington Ave #402, St. Louis

Heidi is fantastic! I needed to have the perfect cake and she blew me away! We had a very elegant rustic wedding with wood centerpieces and mason jars. To match the theme I wanted a tree stump cake. After talking with her, we decided on a white birch tree stump with pine cone clusters and some winter berries to match our winter wedding. The cake looked real! ALL of my guests can’t stop talking about how amazing the cake looked and even better how delicious it tasted! The cake was more than I could have dreamed of and everything I wanted! Thank you Heidi for helping to make our day everything we dreamed for!

Cakes to Celebrate – Menu with Prices – 43053 Margarita Rd, Temecula

I cannot sing Debbie’s praises enough! If you’re looking for the perfect wedding cake, please come see her. We booked 3 cake tastings in one day. The first was mediocre. It was good but not great. The second was with Cakes to Celebrate. It was love at first bite. I kid you not, we both decided on hiring Debbie after trying the first sample of cake. Yes, it is that good. We didn’t even want to go to our third tasting but we didn’t want to cancel an appointment when someone went through the trouble of setting one up for us. We tried many different flavors with different fillings but decided on lemon cake with raspberry filling, chocolate cake with peanut butter filling, and our favorite bella rose champagne with raspberry cream cheese filling. Sadly, our guests ate all our cake so we didn’t have any left over but the first and only bite we took was just as amazing as it was at our tasting. Our guests raved about how delicious our cake was. Debbie also did an amazing job at the decorations as well. I emailed her a picture of what I wanted with a few tweaks and she worked her magic. She also decorated it with some flowers that my florist left for the cake. I honestly couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out. Please, go see Debbie. She will help make your special day even more perfect with her beautiful, delicious cakes!
