I came to International Fare (Thai food) in Hub Mall last week while on a training course for work. I was impressed at the variety and selection. They offer lunch combos starting at about $8. I opted for a Medium size including 2 choices over rice or noodles. The green chicken curry was EXCELLENT. The massamun curry had too many potatoes that had broken down and just felt super thick/pasty – so I wouldn’t order that one again. You can upcharge to coconut rice for an extra $1 as well. Two of my coworkers also had a meal here and enjoyed their food. There was a hair in one of the boxes of food but it’s hard to say when/how it happened. Maybe even while we were eating? Regardless, I’d come back here I a heartbeat for the green curry chicken! Curry on!

Chaiyo Food Truck – Menu with Prices – 44 E 7th Ave, Eugene

Secind visit , trying to ket them redeem themselves. I went there my first time asked for the green curry bowl, the mango coconut sweet rice and a Tai Tea. The mango rice was cold refreshing and delicious, when you order your curry they ask you what spice level you want; I said mild to medium heat. When I took my first bite of the curry it was so hot it made my throat tighten up and took my breath away. I’m not a fan if hot food but I don’t shy ways either, I add Cheyenne peppers to my smoothies regularly, my daughter on the other hand loves heat, so when I got home I gave it to her cause I was unable to tolerate it, I even tried getting a spoon if the rice and just dipping the edge but it was just way way too spicy to even enjoy. So, I give it to my daughter and she was sweating while eating it, and said it was on the edge of too hot for her! I tipped huge the first time cause I was excited for the experience and we chatted about there food and all that good stuff. This time I went for just the mango sweet rice dessert cause it was so perfectly refreshing and lightly sweet, perfect for a hot day type deal, and I decided to give the spring rolls a go,. I order he he flips the thing around and then hawk watched me to see the tip scene part, this time I decided to wait to tip til I get the food and not with my card. I push no tip, he looks at it turns then tells my order to the cook. Kinda made for an awkward moment, lol, it took about 10 minutes to get the order and the mango coconut rice dish was hot ð??ª , not the mango part or the coconut milk but the rice, and it changed the whole dish. Wasn’t looking for a hot sweet. So with that said , I gave them 2 stars because the food is so very inconsistent, I can’t expect to get the same thing twice, or be able trust the spice levels etc. They aren’t inexpensive, so to buy food you can’t or don’t want to eat is disappointing. They have potential and if you like super hot Tai food that’s the spot

Sonson’s Pasty Company – Menu with Prices – 6060 E Brown Rd, Mesa

I often try new food out at local eateries. Today, I experimented with an English food called a Cornish Pasty. The location was called Sonsons Pasty Company. I was delighted. A pasty (said “past-ee” with a soft “a”) is a pastry filled with a meal, in this case meat, potatoes and possibly other vegetables, or cheese. The pastry dough shell is baked in the oven and provides a wonderful tasty and flaky shell to your choice in inside meats and more. The small food kitchen is located just north east of Recker Rd and Brown Rd in Mesa. The business area/strip mall is sparsely filled so you should just head to the north east area of the parking lot to find it. Inside is a small shop with a half a dozen tables and a counter serve area for purchasing your food. The walls are decorated with paraphernalia from the Cornwall area of England and the hosts/owners greeted me warmly when I entered. When you order a pasty, you decide if you want steak, ground beef or pork (they now have a new chicken pasty as well) and cheese if you wish. They add in potatoes, rutabaga and onions. The entire pasty is wrapped completely in a beautifully flaky and savory pastry shell and baked to perfection. The pasty often comes with a gravy to top it off (wow!). A pasty will run you between $8-10 and it is truly a meal. They even have veggie pasties if you call ahead, for those wanting veggie meals. I really enjoyed my first encounter with a pasty, and with the staff at Sonsons Pasty Company. Julie, the proprietor, was kind and answered all my novice questions with grace and a smile. Something great to try. If you’ve never had a pasty- go get one at Sonsons Pasty Co. I will return! Update: Since this review, I’ve returned 2 times to Sonsons, trying out the Steak and Cheese, hamburger and chicken pasties. I also tried the sausage rolls and cherry and lemon turnovers. All have been excellent!

SILSILA THE FLAMING TANDOOR – Menu with Prices – 819 N Killingsworth St, Portland

Went here last night with coworkers and it was awesome. They were able to accommodate our group of 8 easily. They gave us some kind of flatbread with sweet/savory red and spicy/herby green dips to start, then checked on us again soon after and got our drink orders. Some of our drinks came out with chilled glasses, some already poured. Food was flavorful and portions were quite decent. Each entree came with a plate of basmati rice. We got the chicken biryani, lamb saag, chicken saag, chicken tikka massala, veggie korma, and regular and garlic naan. They had extra plates and utensils for us to eat family style. Everything was excellent but my favorites were the lamb saag, korma sauce, and the biryani. I ordered a mango shake which was thick, sweet and soooo good- it reminded me of mango shakes I used to get in the Philippines made with Philippine mangoes. My coworkers couldn’t help taking sips also. Service was good and they were super friendly. They refilled our water glasses frequently. The staff came to check on us a couple of times during and then after the meal to ask how everything was. A couple of very minor things for improvement: -beer itself could’ve been a little colder -the food and my mango shake took some time to come out, so timing could use a little work, but like I said everything came out delicious Overall so happy we found this place! Wouldn’t hesitate to come here again.

Claudias Pastes – Menu with Prices – 30 E Santa Clara St #130, San Jose

LOOK. IF YOU’RE HUNGRY AND WANT SOMETHING SUPER FILLING FOR CHEAP, THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB DOT COM. I’ve passed this place a few times on lunch time adventures with coworkers in downtown San Jose. It’s hard to miss as it’s next to City Fish on Santa Clara St. and that area is always bustling. We popped in on Friday for a quick bite and they had a huge display case of different empanadas and hand pies, some with pictures. There is a full handwritten menu next to the soda machine and they have a ton of options. I got the beef pasty and the pineapple. My coworkers got the mozzarella and musheoom, poblano chicken, apple, and original beef. (There were five of us, but a few people tried the poblano chicken.) Claudia herself was serving up the pies, popping them in the oven for toasting, and ringing us all up in a fast and efficient manner with the help of a coworker. She got all 11 pies toasted and served (to go) in like 10 minutes. We took them back to the office and one of my coworkers had a leaky bag (apple filling was a little juicy…), so that is really our only complaint. Otherwise, everyone LOVED these pies. A typical pie is like $5.50 and it is filling. You really only need one for lunch. If you’re feeling brave and want a dessert one, split it and either save for later or share with a friend My beef pasty had ground beef, onions, potatoes, and rutabaga. I asked Claudia what a rutabaga was and she told us it’s a root vegetable that adds a touch of sweetness. The pies were STUFFED to the brim with filling. And it wasn’t huge chunks either. Everything was cut to smaller uniform sizes so it was cooked all the way through. The pastry dough was flaky and buttery. Every bite was just so tasty. The fruit ones we got were pretty good too! The apple one is actually apple and pineapple, and while tasty, it was somewhat gloopy. The pineapple one made me think of those pineapple tarts from Lunar New Year but on a grander scale. Overall, I’m definitely going back and trying more of these pies. I’m hoping Claudia expands her menu for other (maybe seasonal?) items. I’d love to see a blueberry or pumpkin pasty on the menu, for example. But until then, I have so many more pastes to try!

Chinese Wok – Menu with Prices – AA Marketplace, 13220 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove

Not to be confused with China Wok at Ralph’s, this place is located inside the small food court at AA Market. Prices are pretty reasonable and portions are decent. I didn’t order the combos, but got the family meal. Fried rice- not exactly the best. Rice was kind of dry. Chow Mein- yum. Better than the rice! Cabbage that hey put in was a bit undercooked though. Orange chicken- decent, but soggy. Broccoli beef- some broccoli was over cooked and some were just right. Beef is really tender and delicious- they do coat it in flour or something to make it soft. Curry chicken- the star of all I got. I believe his is a viet style curry with simple ingredients of chicken and potato. The chicken is cooked so long that it breaks apart when you pick it up. It is also flavorful. Ordered online via yelp eats, order was ready when I got there. Friendly service. Would come back again for the curry chicken!

Noodle Head – Menu with Prices – 880 E 13th Ave, Eugene

This is my go-to lunch spot when I’m on campus! Super quick, cheap, and YUMMY. Noodle Head offers noodle bowls, rice bowls, soups, and plenty of veggie-based options. My favorite is the chicken yakisoba. The sauce is delicious, and it comes with water chestnuts, carrots, bok choy, and crushed cashews. The variety of flavors and textures go together wonderfully, and the chicken is always tender. I also enjoy the karee kai, which is a rice bowl with yellow coconut curry and potatoes, carrots, and onions. The curry is wonderful. I usually have to avoid the spicier foods, but this curry is a solid medium and it’s just right for me. It’s rich and thick, with that sweet and savory flavor combo that I’m crazy about. I’ve also ordered the pad thai, and I haven’t been quite as pleased with it. Eugene has plenty of great Thai restaurants, and I’ve had better pad thai at some of the more upper scale, sit down places. The pad thai here is decent, but I could taste ketchup in the sauce, which isn’t how I prefer my pad thai. It was lacking in the peanut-y flavor. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to all U of O students! It’s quick and casual, and in my opinion has the best food around campus. Perfect for a quick break between study sessions at the Knight Library. ?

Boun’s Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 4-208 Marion St, Winnipeg

The menu here is a bit confusing as this restaurant calls itself an “Asian” restaurant. So which country in Asia? Well, I’d say foremost it’s Laotian but Laos and Thailand share similar cuisine, so there is definitely the flavours and the heat of Thai food here. Then there’s a few Vietnamese dishes and then the random Chinese dishes. Prices are very moderate and fair as most starters are $3-9 and most shareable entrees are $10-$13. I tried 3 curry dishes and they were all delicious! Definitely come here and order a bunch of dishes and share family style as they will bring you a big bowl of rice. You can order dishes here ranging from a heat quotient from 1-10. I have a high tolerance to spicy foods and eat spicy foods often so a “7” is perfect for a good hit of heat as I could still taste the food and not down water like crazy. I would order an 8 or 9 next time to see what that’s like but I think 3 would be good for most palates if you don’t eat spicy food that often and don’t bother adding any heat if you can’t eat spicy at all. The “panang curry” ($10.95) with chicken has coconut milk curry with green peas and lime leaf had a great creamy texture but not a lot of complexity in the curry. Although I really enjoyed this dish, I preferred the other two curries more. The “basa curry” ($11.95) was recommended by the server and with good reason – it was so yummy! You can select red, green or yellow curry and I opted for yellow curry with a fillet of basa (a white fish) with vegetables. Amazing sauce – definitely try this one! The matsaman “potato curry” ($10.95) can be made with chicken, beef, pork or shrimp and is cooked in coconut milk curry with potatoes, nuts and basil. The beef in this dish was tender and flavourful – I really liked the crunch of the peanuts in this dish too. The restaurant is located near Lovey’s in the strip mall on Marion Street – there’s very limited parking here so you might have to park on the street but there’s plenty of free 1-2 hour parking on the street. The interior space here is bright, modestly decorated and clean. Food was prepared fairly fast and the service was very friendly and warm. A lovely place for lunch or dinner (plus some to take home if you order a few dishes to share).

Japanese cuisine Masa’s YATAI – Menu with Prices – 2700-2798 Friendly St, Eugene

For anyone reading this the location is near 28th and Friendly (at least as of the date on this post). There aren’t many places to find Japanese Curry in Eugene, so when I happened to drive by this little gem of a food cart I had to stop and check it out. Masa’s is situated amongst a handful of food carts, but the aromas coming from the trailer drew me in. Kamitori was working the cart and was as friendly as can be. The #1 on their menu is the Japanese Curry, and for an extra $3.50 you can add fried chicken. It’s worth noting that I went around 7pm and 4 of the 11 menu items were sold out. After waiting a few minutes my meal was ready. The beef curry broth was fantastic, and the rice complimented it perfectly. I only had four small pieces of fried chicken on my plate, and I wasn’t a fan. If you’re ordering the curry I would skip on the chicken. There’s also a ‘salad’ on the plate, which was really just a few unnecessary pieces of lettuce. I’ll definitely visit again if I need a curry fix, also really want to try the teriyaki salmon.

Tuptim Thai Cuisine Menu with Prices 4896 Washtenaw Ave, Ypsilanti

Me and my husband both are huge fan of Thai cuisine. After leaving San Diego we never got many good Thai place to eat in Michigan, specially in Ann Arbor. Tuptim Thai Cuisine restaurant is just near my house but still I was reliant to try this place reading the reviews. Today at lunch I took my chances and went there. It wasn’t a bad experience but not a very good one either. They do have plenty of free parking space both sides of the restaurant. As soon I walked in I was seated by a very serious man. Both the servers one man and woman were nice to me, they came to ask if everything was ok but none of them smiled for once. Anyway back to the main thing – food. I am a huge huge fan of Penang Curr duck. As it was my first time there I wanted to order something safer. So I ordered Penang curry chicken. It came with a side vegetable tofu soup and one spring roll. The soup was simple yet fresh. The spring roll was ok. I never find much to compliment a spring roll as it has literally nothing inside of it. The curry on the other hand wasn’t good. It was simply pale. One of the main reasons I love Penang curry because of its coconut sauce which should always has a sweeter taste to it. In this case it was more towards spicy and paler side. Still it was ok but the vegetables they put in that curry was simply taken out from frozen bag and put it in there. Green peas, beans and carrots. The whole packaged vegetables they just threw in that curry. I couldn’t even eat my vegetables. I was very hungry when the food came. Seeing the portion of the rice I was thinking that I might have to order more but at the end I couldn’t eat the rice because the entire curry was so bland. I just picked up the chicken pieces and ate. The pricing is good. Specially with their quality of food I think it’s justified. I will probably go back again to try few more dishes and see if my idea of the place changes or not. This place is not terribly bad. I will be back I want to update my review based on my recent experience in this place. Last night me and my husband went there for dinner. We went around 6:30 pm and the place was quite full. The service this time was pleasant and prompt. Atmosphere was nice. We ordered Thai chicken fried rice and chicken Penang curry. The curry came with white rice on the side. I must say the food was good and huge portion. Specially the fried rice was excellent and very large portion. Usually around dinner time my husband’s appetite is skyrocketing. And he loves eating rice. So we have to order tons of rice. Yesterday also we were thinking we might have to order more rice but at the end we happily shared that one plate. In each bite we got huge size chicken. It was really well prepared dish. Although the curry on the other hand has the same problem I faced last time. They don’t prepare their veggies and chicken separately at all. The broth of the curry was really flavorful this time but the chicken was extremely blunt and flavorless. If they could have sautéed the chicken little bit before putting it into the curry it would have been a great dish. May be I am this critical about these preparations because I keep on comparing them with my west coast experience. We ended our dinner with their mango sticky rice and I must say that is one of the best mango sticky rice dish I have eaten in long time. It was cooked to perfection. Though I am not fully happy the way they cook their curry but I will still go there and experiment more new dishes along with excellent mango sticky rice.

Mayflower Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 414 S Military Ave, Green Bay

We ordered a quart of chicken and vegetables and a pint of beef with curry sauce and an extra order of rice. The chicken and vegetables had a red sauce that wasnâ??t too bad but was different than what we thought. The quart container was all chicken and vegetables, the rice was in a separate container.. . However, the pint of curry beef had the rice filling most of the pint container so there was not much beef or vegetables. It did have curry that was difficult to taste but most of the flavor or heat came from red pepper flakes. Way too many pepper flakes!. .

Riverdale indian cuisine – Menu with Prices – 308 W 231st St, The Bronx

We ordered 3 lunch specials. Chicken biryani , chicken tandoori and chicken tikka massala. Both chicken platters were well seasoned. The chicken tandoori was the show plate. Sizzling hot plate 2 portions of chicken on a bed of onions and sweet green peppers; for sure wort ordering. The tandori chicken was moust and very succult and the bed of onions and peppers was a nice touch. 2nd best was the chicken tikka massala, the sauce was creamy. Nice seasoning not overpowering but you can still taste cumin, coriander and the garan masala. So while the sauce was on point, your lunch portion will be about 4 to 5 ounce container with lots of sauce and just 4 pieces of chicken. No way you call that a lunch. I get it, making indian food is expensive due to the high cost of the spices. However, they could charge a bit more and give you more chicken. This portion was ridiculously small, plus i was still hungry in the end. If anything this portion should be for an appetizer instead of a main course meal. The disappointment came about when we saw the chicken biryani. No raisins or any kind of fruit at all. Usually the chicken is cooked in the rice but this one the rice was made separate and the chicken was poured on top, the rice lacked flavor and depth. I felt like i should have just order white rice with a side of curry chicken. I do like the fact that you can bring your own wine and they do have nice glassware for the wine and water service; that is a plus for sure. Personally, i can appreciate that. The place was clean, decor was not intrusive and best of all the smell of the kitchen stayed in the kitchen. Sometimes you go have indian food and you cone out smelling like curry..lol The naan was tasty and made to order but could have benefited from a brushing of butter. However it was tasty, soft and we had a good portion order for the table of 3 ppl. They do have home made mango chutney $4 extra and well worth it.

Coco Ichibanya – Menu with Prices – 2710 Alton Pkwy, Irvine

Every time I’ve come here, it’s crowded, whether it’s for lunch, dinner, times in-between, or takeout. I’ve taken it out many times because I didn’t want to deal with the hour or so wait, which means I’ve lost out on the freshness of curry and crispiness of katsu. I still enjoy it despite that. Though when I feel like ordering garlic naan (because it pairs well with the curry, try it!!), the naan becomes a lil dry and not as fragrant as it’d be dining in. Gotta pick your battles y’know. Dine-in: since it’s busy, the service is quick, and servers aren’t the most personable, but it’s understandable seeing how crowded it gets. I don’t mind because the food comes out quick. The downside has been lack of water refills, extra orders or anything else that requires flagging down someone to help. When my friend visits me from San Diego, he likes to eat here, and tradition has been to order the jumbo Thai tea to share. The servers have varied on splitting the drink for us. Some days, they give us multiple cups. Other days, we’ll have more than one straw in a giant stein. Either way, the tradition stays alive for a good bargain. Food: Again, the garlic naan pairs well with the curry, try it!! I usually order chicken cutlet with regular rice and curry. Everything costs extra beyond “regular,” and that means everything (e.g., rice, spice levels, and any add-ons). I’ve tried the level 8 spice before, and it’s not much hotter than the regular, it’s more of the actual spice and salt potency. But attempt at your discretion because I’ve seen other people suffer because of it too. I’m tryna live my best vanilla life, so I’m sticking with the regular unless they stop charging for extra spice levels. I’d equate the curry here to what I expect from a standard Japanese curry. I grew up eating the S&B Golden Curry packets, so Coco Ichibanya is just a fancier, more expensive version of this. The portion is hefty. I usually want to take a big nap after eating here. I’ve also tried Coco Ichibanya in Japan, and I’d say the quality is similar. It might’ve tasted better in Japan because I was in vacation mode and everything was better in general, but me coming back multiple times is a testament to my enjoyment of this place.
