I’ve been trying to find words to describe the sheer happiness this place causes me. Eating healthy can sometimes be very hard in Evansville and Common Ground makes it easy and delicious! Everything always tastes so fresh and is very different than what any restaurant is selling. Today’s Lentil soup was so good and I could have eaten the homemade hummus by the spoonful! Thank you for doing what you’re doing. You are an incredible asset to Evansville! I just want to know when you’ll be open for dinner too??

House of Hummus Mediterranean Cafe Menu with Prices 5950 North Point Pkwy #127, Alpharetta

I randomly searched for “mediterranean restaurant” around my office, and this place populated first with the highest rating. I went over for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. First, the platter portion is really good. I wanted to get full, so I ordered a lentil soup as well without knowing what the portion will be. I received french fries, a little bit of salad, pita bread, rice, and my choice of meat. The chicken shawarma had enough chicken, but the gyro platter had much more meat. Next time, I am going to get gyro for more meat. Chicken shawarma was savory and great and the fries were seasoned fries. They were not some blend fries, and I loved the fact that they were seasoned. The only downside might be the chicken was a little dry. I don’t know if people have tried this before, but when I eat rice at Mediterranean restaurants, eating it with soup is a great combination. So, I mixed rice with my lentil soup, and the combination was amazing here. Separately, the lentil soup was evenly flavored and savory. There are other great side options, and I am kind of excited to try other food at this restaurant. If you are in the area and want some really good and quick Mediterranean food, check out House of Hummus.

Leila’s Mediterranean Grocery & Deli – Menu with Prices – 5045 Virginia Beach Blvd Suite #108, Virginia Beach

Not sure how I neglected to review this place for so long, but I am correcting that oversight now. Leila’s is, in my mind, the perfect place. The taste, presentation and quality of the food is tremendous, the portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. For less than you’d pay for lunch most anywhere else, you can leave here feeling both content/full and healthy. Better yet, you can shop while you wait for your order (spice prices are great), and there are five or six booths to eat at, if you prefer that over take-out. The soups. The two standard soups, chicken and lentil, are each among the very best I have ever eaten (and I have eaten some great soups). The lentil is likely the finest of its kind I have ever tried. Where some lentil soups are watery, theirs is hearty, full of flavor, and with just enough heat to notice. If you are looking for a light lunch, the soup itself would serve nicely. The chicken soup is packed with shredded chicken (a mix, but mostly white meat) and has a satisfying heat level that I didn’t notice until half the bowl was gone (read: about 20 seconds, and it’s a large bowl). I would happily forgo any other chicken soup for the rest of my life, if I could replace it with this. I wish that I had the recipe for both. And I can’t stress enough, I feel healthy after eating them! How often can you say that about something you love, given today’s typical food options? The beef shawarma is also a solid bet. It’s rolled a bit thin (which I actually don’t mind; especially as it comes with soup, bread and hummus and olives, at a great price), but is packed with flavor: the meat is lean, rather than fatty, and the pita around it is very lightly toasted, giving the wrap a satisfying texture. There is a very pleasant nutty background flavor, which I find most tahini fails to achieve. The hummus is, unsurprisingly, some of the best, if not the best, I have ever had. Light, nuanced and with a finishing hint of lemon. I am usually quite full by the time I turn to the hummus and bread, yet it’s good enough that I can’t help but eat it on the spot. Should you somehow still have room for dessert, there are several house-made options to choose from, and a few with naturally low(er) sugar. If, like me, you are at the point in life where 90% of what you once enjoyed is just too sweet to choke down, then Leila’s has you covered. I no longer live near this place, which saddens me, as I seriously doubt I’ll ever find a replacement. Such is life. Enjoy it for me!

Kervan Kebab House – Menu with Prices – 1757 Parkview Dr B, Chesapeake

I am pretty sure by now that Yelp believes I have abandoned the quest for reviewing restaurants. The fact is, I have been dining out, but my dining experiences lately just haven’t been that good to report with the exception of a few great meals out of state. My friend/neighbor invited me to this Turkish restaurant today. I have never had Turkish food, so I was very excited to try it. The small private setting was quite casual with a sense of home. The owners were very friendly. The dining area was very clean, cozy and inviting. There is even a market area filled with all sorts of deserts, candies, seasonings and delicious looking food items. I had no idea what to order so I trusted my friend to select something really good since she dined there regularly. We started with a bowl of the red lentil soup. I have had lentil soup and even made it myself. I have never had a bowl of lentil soup this good. The soup was piping hot and seasoned beyond any soup I have ever tasted in a restaurant. I could have eaten the whole pot. In fact, I would go back just for a bowl of that delicious soup! We also got a cheese and spinach filled pastry served with delicious savory yogurt. The pastry was so light and airy, I could have eaten a couple of those. It was served with a wonderful blend of tea in a dainty little cup and mini spoon to stir. It was really quite elegant. Then we got a chicken gyro. The bread was grill charred to a very appealing and appetizing brown. The chicken was packed with flavor. We were so filled, there was no room for dessert, but I’m definitely going back and I’m definitely getting dessert the next time. My friend says they have baklava. I will be trying theirs soon. I saw a couple of guests enjoying the hummus and pita bread. I am definitely trying that the next time along with their delicious looking chicken kabob with rice and salad. In fact, I am seriously considering trying everything on the menu because of how well everything we had was seasoned. I highly encourage you to pay a visit to Kervan’s. I am so glad that I found it. It’s a totally different casual dining experience with great food! – – Great food! Check out their website to view all the delicious dishes they have to offer.

Aviva by Kameel Menu with Prices 225 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta

Ordered: falafel platter with 3 sides ($11) Ambience: inside the Peachtree center. very busy lunch place Review: a little pricey but good quality food. I must have written a review on this spot in the past. So Aviva is a family run business. Kameel is the original chef and you’ll see him walking around attending to customers. His customer service and unique business style really put this spot on the map of ATL. He remembers his customers name, brings out samples for folks to try. Everyday the line wraps around the shop during lunch hours. Its fresh and flavorful food. Falafel are deeply fried but you don’t feel the excess oil. It reheats well the elme the day which tells you it’s fresh. The falafel sizes are decent. Lentil soup – there are many variations of it depending on the day. I am a huge fan of lentil. Now if you’ve never had lentil soup before, you gotta try it at Aviva (and Sababa at Dunwoody). It’s got right amount of spices infused in the soup and it’s not spicy. Cream and spinach is actually very creamy. Has a good salt balance and it tastes smooth. As samples we got his blueberry muffins (delicious) and fresh watermelon. That took care of desert. Make a trip to Aviva. It’s worth it!

Kiyoshi’s Sushi LLC – Menu with Prices – 6550 Gateway Ave, Sarasota

Everything we had was delicious and the place is small but awesome. The service was incredible; friendly and attentive from as soon as we entered and continued as we left. The restaurant’s decor is really cool; the conveyor belt, when not in use for their sushi plates, has a delightfully awesome array of rubber ducks. Their spicy salmon roll was some of the best sushi I have ever had, the eel was incredible, and the tuna was beautiful. As one of my daughters said, “this place has ruined sushi for me.” We had 2 pieces of nigiri, and 6 sushi rolls with 2 salads (with homemade ginger dressing), 2 bowls of miso soup (homemade on site), and 3 drinks with tip for only $73! I will DEFINITELY be back!!!!

The Gilded Swine – Menu with Prices – 3800 Old Cheney Rd a, Lincoln

Ok. Here’s what I enjoyed before I even tasted the food. The chef made a lentil salad! And the idea came to him while walking through the farmers market. He saw the zucchini, green beans and tomatoes and just knew it should become a lentil salad. Wow!! I’ve never tried a lentil salad, but based on my experience with this one, I am now a fan. I ordered the Volkswurst, which was very tasty. I removed the top half of the bun and ate it with a fork, but it you are still eating bread I think you’d like the bun – it’s grilled so it has good texture. The kraut is homemade, cut wide and still crisp. The beer mustard was the perfect condiment! So glad I finally made it out to eat their food, I’ll be paying more attention from now on!

Aleppo Sweets – Menu with Prices – 107 Ives St, Providence

This restaurant had been on my list well before it was recently named as one of RI’s best restaurants. The overall experience was worth the wait on a few different levels. First of all, my wife and I ordered enough food to feed a small army and we almost finished it all! Just check out the photo haha and also not pictured, but consumed, was Tamarind Date Drink, Iced Blackberry Drink, and Walnut Baklava. I’ll start with the lentil soup which was thin in consistency compared to the version I grew up with. However, the lentil soup of my childhood is from a different culture so I can’t compare it completely to my grandma’s recipe. Needless I finished my bowl although I will not order it again. The other items were very in line with other Middle Eastern dishes I’ve had before, like the hummus, tabouleh, falafel, and bread. The standouts in our opinion were the lamb/pepper kabobs because they were not dry and infused with delicious spices. The fatayer which is a Syrian street food was very good and a unique menu offering. Lastly, the baklava was the best my wife has ever tasted, and she’s been to that part of the world in recent years. The only other food comment I’ll make is on the drinks we had. The tamarind drink was very tart and the blackberry drink was very sweet so we alternated between glasses to balance the flavors. Regarding the service, we were there on a Sunday evening and arrived just before the dinner rush. It was a packed house and they were clearly overwhelmed. I had to ask for clean silverware, napkins, and unfortunately, more paper towels in the sole bathroom. Overall, the service was good, the food was delicious, but the story of how this restaurant came to be is truly worth researching. We were very happy to keep this place in business and support a local/international entrepreneur. Shukraan!

Kenda?s Deli & Grill – Menu with Prices – 7996 S Sheridan Rd, Tulsa

Update: I found myself craving this place after two days, so, naturally I went back. I couldn’t believe how fresh and delicious everything was. It was EVEN better than last time! Hence, I updated my 4 star rating to the well deserved 5 spot. The people at Kenda’s really know how to cook. Gosh, I hope this place does well because I’m not sure I can go without their food now . Previous 4 Star Review Below: Homemade, tasty food! Their grilled chicken is nicely marinated & charred perfectly. Rice, hummus and stuffed grape leaves are some of the tastiest I’ve ever tried. Their Greek salad is crunchy fresh (I like their feta, don’t be afraid to increase the fresh oregano). Their soup of the day, chicken/vegetable/barley, wasn’t to my taste. I’d like to see a lentil, garbanzo vegetable, lemon chicken or even minestrone soup. They seem to be conscious to not overly salt which is great for people who need/want to watch their sodium levels. They also have a pastry rack with a variety of freshly baked goodies for those suffering from a sweet tooth. The restaurant is clean and the owners, who seem to be on site working, are friendly. Since my favorite Mediterranean restaurant recently closed (Leenas), I was very sad with the notion of having to cook again until I found this spot. Check this place out! It’s definitely going to be one of my regular neighborhood spots.

Bon Appetit Cafe Menu with Prices 835 Hamilton St, Allentown

I love everything about Bon Appetit. Itâ??s right across the street from my office on the corner of 9th and Hamilton. The variety of food is just amazing. From middle eastern favorites like grape leaves, shawarma and hummus to build your salads and American fare, they have something for every palette. My favorites are the vegan specials like rice with lentils and Mediterranean Cole slaw and the kale and lentil soup. Yum yum. And you wonâ??t find a friendlier staff. Eat in or take out, itâ??s a good deal.

Jerusalem Bakery & Grill – Menu with Prices – 1175 Franklin Gateway SE, Marietta

I just met a friend for lunch at Jerusalem Bakery for her first time, and she was so excited! She had spent a summer in Jerusalem and said that the falafel and hummus here were just as good as what she ate in Israel! I will go by myself and get their lunch special for $9.99: a sandwich, side, and drink. I either get the chicken swarma or the falafel sandwich, and I always get the hummus as a side. Their pitas for the hummus are so good, and the hummus is the best in town. We have ordered their hummus for parties at our house, and it is always the first to go. Their swarma is so delicious and filled with crusty flavorful meat. They have a homemade hot sauce that adds so much flavor. Who needs a jarred hot sauce?! This is authentic homemade food, and the menu offers so many options for me whether I’m in a meat or in a vegetable mood. After you have lunch, wander through the attached market and get some dessert and some other treats to take home. They sell their pitas as well along with lots of other bakery treats, meats, and other groceries.

Soulard Gyro – Menu with Prices – 4337 Butler Hill Rd, St. Louis

Hands down one of the best Gyro restaurants I have ever eaten at! The owners are incredible and are investing in our community with their multiple locations. I have been eating at their original location, located in Soulard (go figure), since 2014 and have never had a bad meal! My go to is the Chicken Gyro or Chicken Gyro salad. Their Chicken meat is absolutely amazing and is tenders, juicy, and sliced perfectly. This was my first time getting it at their SoCo location and it tastes just as great as the Soulard one. We also got their Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and it is amazing as well. If you are looking for a great place to eat or grab something quick and good to go, head to Soulard Gyro now! You won’t be disappointed!

All American Eatery & Catering Co. – Menu with Prices – 8901 US-87 #101, Lubbock

Came for lunch. We were promptly greeted by a very friendly lady who immediately reminded me of my grandmother which made me excited to try this place even more. Ordered the hot bar and husband ordered a cheeseburger on the jalapeño bun. Hamburger was incredible although a bit heavy with the mustard. Might order that on the side. Hot bar had salad (very fresh although ranch wasn’t homemade), squash soup (amazing!!), chicken tenders (not homemade, similar to fast food chains), gravy, okra and rolls. Ordered lemon pie but the homemade whip on top tasted like the cream might have been turning because it had an off taste and smelled strange. Crust was excellent. The best part of the meal was the soup and the cheeseburger. Service was okay, but it was very busy so I think that affected it some. We will be back to try the Friday catfish!
