After passing it by several times, I finally caved after craving a good taco. Seeing how Eugene is okay for choices, I was a tad hesitant, but behind the walls of a lime green food truck is simply one of the best Mexican eateries in town. Now, the tacos here are not your Tex-Mex/American taco with ground beef, lettuce, and cheddar cheese. These are some authentic street tacos: small corn tortillas simply filled with grilled meat, onion, and cilantro. With a choice of salsa, that’s all there is and all there has to be. I got lengua (beef tongue), al pastor (marinated pork), and chorizo. The only disappointment is that I did not get any more. The al pastor was tender, spiced wonderfully, and sweet with the chunks of pineapple. The beef tongue was soft, silky, slightly beefy, and cooked wonderfully. Finally, the chorizo was quite good as well, but I was reveling in the aftermath of the first two to fully pay attention to my final taco. The staff, the family more so, is a kindly group of people purely that know what they are doing. It’s some very tasty food at a cost that won’t burn a hole in your wallet. Simply a necessary stop for those that need an excellent taco.

Cantina Taco – Menu with Prices – 117 S Main St, Rockford

We’ve been fans of their tacos getting them at the market as well as through Stewart Square Eatery for years and now we’re so excited that Cantina Taco finally has its very own restaurant! I have not had the chance to eat inside yet but I did order delivery to my work one afternoon and was not disappointed. Here’s what I ordered: 1. The fish tacos – I’m a seafood fan and I tend to lean towards fish tacos whenever I stop at a taco place but I think these may be my new go-to. I was extremely impressed with how well seasoned and perfectly crisp their fish batter was without overpowering the fish itself and their slightly sweet slaw offered a great balance in the taco. 2. Chorizo brunch taco – chorizo, egg, potato – nicely cooked and delicious! 3. Chips and queso – Whatever is in their queso is creamy and addicting. Be warned, you’re probably not going to want to share (though there’s more than enough to.) Overall, I was happy as always with their tacos and would definitely recommend it ?

Zapata Mexican Taco Shop – Menu with Prices – 207 W Rockrimmon Blvd Suite E, Colorado Springs

Warm welcome greetings, legit al pastor, double-tortilla shells. These are a few of my favorite things. This taco shop isn’t trying to be something hip or fancy. The owner is straight out of Guadalajara and it’s clear he knows tacos. We ordered one of every taco. We were thrilled to see the tacos were double shelled so they didn’t fall apart on first bite. This is how it should always be, but isn’t at a lot of fancy taco shops. The salsa bar had avocado salsa, tomatillo salsas and a thick hot red salsa which may make your nose run a bit in the best possible way. The music was Selena and Chicano remixes of Blondie and some Mexican and Latin tunes, and it was perfect. Horchata on tap. On tap. And Coke products. You can see the al Pastor turning on a spick from the register. My husband’s tripe taco was the best tripe he has ever had. And this is from a man who has eaten tripe in many forms. We liked the pastor a lot. The lengua (tongue) was good but I prefer a thinner sliced preparation finished with a kiss on a flat top grill. The chorizo had good flavoring but needed a bit more salt to bring it all together. I liked the way the restaurant was decorated. There were plenty of bright red booths, everything matched, the place was spotless. They need to print shirts and sell the merch. Overall, we were happy we found this place and are only bummed because we know it’s gonna get popular and will no longer be out secret taco spot.

El Amigo: Tienda y Taqueria – Menu with Prices – 707 S Union St Suite A-1, Wilmington

Muy delicioso! Been here a few times now and have to say I’m a fan. The tacos are street style, just meat, onion and cilantro. The Al Pastor might be my fav. The burritos for $4 are not huge, but are very satisfying. They’re no frills, but they’re stuffed! The tortas are big so, be hungry if you order one. I must say that the lengua (tongue) might be the best I’ve ever had. If you’ve never had tongue, don’t be afraid. It’s like the best braised beef you’ve ever had, except not as stringy as beef. Tender & juicy little pillows of yummy-ness. I will say there can be a language barrier sometimes, so brush up on that high school Spanish before you go. Cash only! Located in a mini Mexican grocery store, ample parking.

Oaxaquena Triqui Menu with Prices 77 N Lake Ave, Albany

This was our first visit. So we kept things fairly basic. We got an order of chips and salsa and a side of spicy green mole’ sauce. Which was pretty spicy but not blow your taste buds out spicy. Good spicy that you can still taste it. We both wanted tacos so that’s what we got. She got the beef tongue (which were super rich and beefy tasting and very tender) the Chicarones which for my taste not cripsy so i could have never gotten past the texture but she said they were good but very heavy. And as an extra she got a grasshopper taco, I said it grasshopper and to be honest they weren’t bad. Smokey and crispy. Far better than I would have thought. I have had beef tongue before so I kept it simple 3 chicken and 3 pork tacos. Both of which were tasty moist and tender. The chicken had the typical subtle flavor but when i added lime and the very spicy red mole they were very good. For me pork tacos are always first choice. .and they were nice and spicy and I just added a squeeze of lime. We were sufficiently satisfied but they have Churros and ice cream. The Churros were I would say just good they were filled with Leche’ which was a little weird for me but still good I generally am a purest with most foods simple is usually better for me. The ice cream I didn’t like I think it was passion fruit so no go for me. My wife ate the ice cream again simple would have been better vanilla would have been perfect. Of course I also had my Jarritos Lime soda which I love. Definitely looking forward to going back again soon. I would say for Albany a solid 4 star place.

Taco Fundacion – Menu with Prices – 235 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe

Best. Tacos. Ever. We went to Taco Fundación on several of the days we were in town for a few reasons: scrumptious tacos, fast service, cheap prices, and fresh ingredients. How can it get better than that?! They have tons of types to choose from, but I tried the following: barbacoa, al pastor, chicken mole, and bison. The barbacoa proved to be a favorite, as I made sure to get at least one each time I went. It’s perfectly moist, acidic, sweet, and spicy. The al pastor has a good flavor and they make sure to give you several pieces of roasted pineapple, which is what I love to see from an al pastor taco! I did find the al pastor to be a bit dry, though. The chicken mole is probably delicious if you like mole, but it was my first time trying it and I just wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce. That being said, the chicken is super tender and pulled to perfect size. The bison taco, which I got on the recommendation of a super friendly employee, and it was seriously great. It was really moist and had the perfect balance of flavors, especially given the creamy cheese and the sweet roasted corn. They also have a few sides, like corn and chips and guacamole, but I was all about the tacos. Do yourself a favor and go to Taco Fundación ASAP! And then do yourself another favor and go again… and again… and again.

Gomez Taco Shop – Menu with Prices – 4800 S Central Ave, Los Angeles

Ok so we work literally a couple of businesses down, we were dying to have another food place close to us, so of course we love to support businesses especially when they are starting out, so when they opened I went to get some tacos. I got an asada taco, and a chorizo taco and al pastor and I also got some al pastor nacho fries, and boy were they good (nacho fries) my husband had the tacos and he liked them. Later our friend went and got a quesadilla and he said it was good!!! So then a couple days later my son wanted some chicken tacos and I went to get him some and my son liked them and he’s picky!!! I got a chorizo taco and it was really good!!! So yesterday one of our customers said you gotta try the avocado burger, so today I went and got the avocado burger with garlic fries and OMG BOMB!!!!!! So far what we have tried is good!! The place is pretty clean too they remodeled it and made it look very nice inside very chill. We really do hope that maybe they add more things to the menu like pozole or Birria, I saw a sign that they sell menudo on the weekends only, I’m not a huge menudo fan but so far what we have tried is good.

Taqueria El Poblano – Menu with Prices – 652 Broadway, Chula Vista

Yahoo! Sí, the street tacos here are very good! Muy Bueno y Ricos. For the time being, this Taqueria Food Truck is only opened during evening hours. 6 pm till 2 am daily respectfully. I arrived opening on a Friday evening and ordered two al pastor & two beef birria double wrapped street tacos at $2.20 a piece. The beef birria tacos were great, but one has to be careful because the salsa they put on the meat packed some heat. The beef birria was very tasty and even had a very nice aromatic appeal. I loved that it was juicy and tender, and they double wrapped the tacos. The al pastor tacos were delicious. The pork meat was well marinated and they cooked it very well. I liked that it was a mix of crispy pieces and tender pieces of pork. This taco came with chopped cilantro, white onions, and creamy guacamole that’s traditional with these particular street tacos in Mexico. Great stuff indeed. There’s no seafood at this truck, just carne asada, chicken, beef birria, and pork, not that there’s anything wrong with that. There’s a tent with table available. They have salsa available at the tables, and radishes, limes, and cucumbers at the truck. Service was friendly and Claudia was super helpful. I like that they bring the food to you at the tables.

El Taco Loco – Menu with Prices – 2804 NW Market St, Seattle

Hooooow did we not know about this place? Just a short walk off the beaten track of downtown Ballard, this sparkling clean lunch counter stands inside Ballard Liquor Store. If you’ve ever spent time in Chicago or Brooklyn you know some of the best Mexican food can be found in the back of supermercados and the like, and El Taco Loco follows suit. We compared Al Pastor tacos in four Ballard hot-spots, the other three of which are lauded for their South-of-the-Border recipes and often have lines of people waiting for a table, and El Taco Loco beat the competition hands-down despite it’s no-frills atmosphere (it was about the taco, not the lighting). The tortilla wasn’t hand-made (one person does it all, something has to give), but was well-prepared and toothsome without being rubbery. The meat was precisely spiced, hot and juicy/succulent, the flavor of which exploded and developed deeper notes as we ate. El Taco Loco may also have the best salsas around, which added additional complexity to an already delicious dish. We were so impressed we went back for lunch the next day to sample their Tacos Locos and Enchiladas Mole, all of which were superb. The al pastor tacos were still our favorite of the three we chose (al pastor, carnitas, and asada), but not for any failings of the other two, which were also delectable. The Enchiladas Mole was rich, silky smooth and perfectly flavored – not too sweet, as often happens in American kitchens, with just the right hint of smoke and deep savoriness to linger on the tongue afterwards. A particular surprise was how tasty the accompanying rice and beans were, which are often bland and forgettable sides in other establishments. Most certainly, El Taco Loco (not to be confused with the truck of the same name) will be on heavy rotation for us. Give them a try when you want a quick lunch or dinner that won’t break the bank but will leave you feeling full and is, above all, DELICIOUS.

Tacos Las Palmas – Menu with Prices – 1715 Percival Rd, Columbia

This random broke-down taco truck has caught my eye many a time as I’m driving on the 77-S. Finally, I made a little pit stop and tried it out. They do speak un poco English. Tacos $1.50 each. Gorditas $3. Tortas and quesadillas $5. Drinks such as horchata $2. Your pick of beef, chicken or pork for any of the above with preparations such as al pastor, lengua, carnitas, asada, chorizo, chicharron. All the tacos we had were good. The gordita exterior was a bit flour-y for our taste. Parking is the on site dirt lot. You can eat at any of the 4 small tables with paper towel rolls. When the sun sets, they put up little Christmas lights to dine by. It’s a little kitschy but it works. I’ll be back!

Tacos Los 3 Reyes – Menu with Prices – 1610 Old Bayshore Hwy, San Jose

Closer to 3.5 stars overall, but their corn tortillas are super fresh and one of the best versions I’ve had in the South Bay. Tacos Los Tres Reyes is located in more of an industrial area. They weren’t busy around 1:30pm on Memorial Day. You order at the food truck, and they have covered seating inside, in addition to their salsa bar. I tried their Chorizo, Suadero, Asada, and Pastor Tacos ($2.20/each, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jsF9eCkRQTM2J85n_8rL5w&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg). The suadero and asada were my favorites, since they were the most flavorful and seared well. I liked the pineapple in the pastor, but there wasn’t much flavor otherwise. The chorizo was my least favorite- it was spicy, but very dry and crumbly. I would recommend the suadero and asada, but not the chorizo or pastor. However, the corn tortillas were delicious. They were the perfect consistency, and also had good flavor. The salsa bar (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=GElnqnYWRN0mDeUhnXKJvg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg) had a good amount of options. I only tried the orange and green salsas, but I liked both. The majority of tacos and salsas that I tried were spicy, so this isn’t the best place to go if you don’t like spice! For those that like offal, they have a few different options on their menu: buche (stomach), cabeza, and lengua. Pollo and chicharron are also available. I would come back if I was having a taco craving and in the area, and/or for late night eats. However, this is one of the better street taco places in the South Bay that I’ve been to. There was plenty of parking in their lot and also some street parking available.

Taquitos mexico – Menu with Prices – 7491 Grissom Rd, San Antonio

I’ve been to a lot of taco trucks. And I’ve had a lot of street tacos in my life. A LOT. Yet this is one of the best ones I’ve ever had! On a Saturday night, I was craving pastor tacos so my boyfriend and I drove out to Taquitos Mexico because it was the closest taco truck to us. We both got the 5 for $6 deal. I got pastor tacos and he got asada tacos. My oh my… they were sooo freakin good!!! The meat was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. they were topped with onions, cilantro, and grilled onions. I love that they weren’t as oily as other places too. The tortillas were soft and did not break apart. We also got a large horchata but that wasn’t too special. I really wanted to try the elotes! Right after we finished our plate, my bf immediately said he wanted more. Guess we have to get him double next time haha. We can’t wait to be back and get more tacos and elotes! Maybe try other items too!

Tacosway Fusion & Street Tacos – Menu with Prices – 12800 Garden Grove Blvd unit b, Garden Grove

These are street tacos done right. I was looking for a place close to my work and I thought, what the hell. So I went and tried it, what a surprise. These tacos would kill anywhere in LA. The place is tucked in a tiny strip mall. And when I say tiny I mean if you blink or sneeze when you’re driving by you’ll miss it. As it is you might miss it anyway. Look hard cause these are some of the best tacos you’ll ever have. They make aguas frescas too, so they have the bona fides. The jalapeño salsa has just the right amount of kick and it’s packed with flavor. But you’re not coming here for salsa, you’re coming here for tacos. Carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, are all here and they’re delicious. The al pastor has nice heat. The carnitas are tender, and the asada has a few crunchy bits that give the meat that extra flavor. For the intrepid out there they have lengua, that’s tongue in case you’re interested, and they have a Korean BBQ taco that even Roy Choi would love. They have tortas (haven’t tried them) and fish tacos too. Prices are way reasonable like street tacos should be. Don’t worry if you forget your cash, they take ApplePay. Just don’t forget your iPhone. The decor is bland but the pictures on the walls make for a good laugh. This isn’t fine dining but worth the visit and the tacos.
