This continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in Evansville. If I lived in Evansville, I’d eat here at least once a week. Since our last visit, Tres Reynas has made a couple changes. First they now offer dinner hours. Previously, they were breakfast and lunch only. Another change, they now have bottled beer and Micheladas. This mornings breakfast was awesome. We both ordered the Tres Reynas Skillet. It’s one of the best breakfast meals I’ve eaten. Pieces of steak, chorizo and ham over a bed of thin sliced red potatoes. Also sliced onions and green peppers. All of that topped with queso, then topped with two fried eggs. This meal is served in a very hot cast iron skillet which keeps your meal warm. Today we tried the Tres Leche cake. We were told one piece would be enough for both is us. We were served a huge piece of cake with a covering of whipped cream, drizzle of chocolate sauce, and slices of strawberries. The cake was awesome. It was very moist without being mushy. The cake had a very slight coconut flavor. The piece was so big, two of us ate all we wanted and still left some of it behind. Wow what a deal at $4.25 for the cake. Keep in mind, this is a small shop and seating is limited.

Ferah Tex-Med Kitchen – Menu with Prices – 690 Beebalm Ln, Garland

This is an interesting new place and I was excited to check it out. Came a little early on a Friday evening-before 6:00pm. Atmosphere was nice and the decor was simple, imo, but attractive. I ordered the Cast Iron Chicken. Yep, it came out in a cast iron skillet. I was expecting the food to be really hot since it was in a cast iron skillet. It was not. It obviously sat for a bit before being brought out. Or maybe the skilled wasn’t hot when they put the food in it and it zapped the warmth out of the food. Whatever it was, I didn’t mention it to the server. The Hubs’ food was warm but not hot too. Should have been hot since there were only 2 or 3 tables occupied when we got there. My chicken portion was fairly small but was seasoned and cooked well. Fingerling potatoes were good, but I’m not really sure they were fingerlings. They looked more like thin slender strips of regular potatoes. But they were good no matter how they were cut. There was barely enough spinach in it to see it. lol The cream sauce was poured over the chicken and onto the bottom of iron skillet. It was very good. Menu also said it came with caramelized shallots and tomato relish. Never saw that on the plate. I don’t like tomatoes, so I would have noticed it if I ate it. lol. I usually cannot eat an entire meal when we go out and usually walk away stuffed or with a doggie bag. I ate everything-except the bone, ha, and if I’d had bread I would have sopped up every last smidgen of the cream sauce. I was satisfied when I left, but not stuff and I didn’t feel full. The Hubs ordered the Blackened Red Snapper. It came with a southern grits cake, crispy brussel sprouts and the fish came with the same yummy cream sauce. The fish was a nice size and tasted good, but it was not blackened, which he was fine with him because he doesn’t like blackened fish. (No idea why he ordered it. lol) It was good. Yes, I tried it. The grits cake was interesting. We weren’t sure what it was and he didn’t remember it on the menu. It is basically grits with some mushrooms in it, cooled and cut into a nice little square. Then it’s battered and fried. It sort of looked like fried cornbread made with white corn. It tasted fairly good. Yes, I tasted it too. Brussel sprouts were good but not crunchy as the menu said. We ordered the baklava for dessert. I wanted just a small dessert for the two of us to split. We ordered this not knowing if we’d get more than just one bite apiece since we split it. We got 4 small pieces probably about 1.5″ x 1.5″ each. It was just the right amount. It was served on a really cute piece of wood cut out in the shape of the great state of Texas. Raspberry sauce drizzled on the plate/Texas with whipped cream-real cream and a couple blueberries. Could’ve done without the raspberry sauce. This is the only thing we ate that I thought resembled mediterranean-or Texas, for that matter. All in all, it was good. Well, better than just good. I’ll definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Not sure how long they have been open but I don’t think it’s been too long. I’m hoping they will improve (and increase the portion size) and have much success.

Sweet Bakery Mexico Lindo – Menu with Prices – 212 Broadway, Chula Vista

I work nearby the bakery. Over the years, many employees requested a cake from here for special occasions. This trip I ordered a half sheet strawberry. The cake is a traditional white with whipped cream filling and fresh strawberries. The cake is extremely thick. I counted four layers. There is whipped cream in between each layer with fresh strawberries smack in the middle. Around the outside of the cake is sliced almonds and large whole strawberries with a sweet concoction that embellish the top. The cake was a hit with everyone. It is delicious. The ordering process was easy. Patty took my order. I had questions on what size to get. I was ordering for 50 people. They have a template to show you what the size of the cake is. It makes it stress-free when you can see how much you are getting and can visualize how large each piece will be. The cost for a half sheet is $80.99. Since the cake serves 50-60 people, I think it was very reasonable for the quality that you receive. I ordered the cake four business days before my event. They require a deposit but I chose to pay up front in case I was running late on the day I went to pick up the cake. When I arrived to pick up the cake, it was not decorated. However, it only took them a few minutes to add the strawberries and do the writing. Do to the thickness of the cake, cutting it is quite a challenge. Unfortunately, it does not always look pretty as the layers sometimes separate especially around the border. The taste of the cake makes up for the messiness. We will continue to purchase cakes from Mexico Lindo.

Tres Leches Bakery and Cafe – Menu with Prices – 6903 St Andrews Rd, Columbia

This is one of those special bakeries that just make a Tres Leches cake the way it should be made! Don’t the let the simple look of this bakery fool you, it is loaded with very delicious Latin/Hispanic baked goods. My wife got me a Tres Leches cake for my birthday here and I was absolutely WOWed by how delicious it was! It wasn’t too moist or too dry, and the whip cream frosting was not over sweetened! Also, the strawberries used in my cake we’re fresh and added a little tang to what was an already awesome cake! The people here are very friendly and speak both English and Spanish. I have tried some other baked goods here like cupcakes and their Pan Dulce, and they all taste like they were made with high quality ingredients! Just FYI, they do sell Tres Leches cakes by the slice as well… You know, just in case you’re like me and you’re watching your sugar intake. Do your self a favor and order yourself a slice of cake and some coffee here… You deserve to know what the meaning of “yummy” actually means! The quality of the pasteries sold here, and the amazing service, get this little bakery 5 out of 5 stars! It’s a hidden gem that needs more exposure!

Cupcake Cutie Etc. – Menu with Prices – Court Square, 109 S Ct Ave, Memphis

We end up coming here pretty often. The owners are great and very friendly and I appreciate that they let me use their bathroom. This place specializes in build-your-own cupcakes. You can mix and match any base flavor with any cream and top it with a number of fun toppings. My favorite base is the strawberry one and the pineapple one because they have little bits of their respective fruit mixed into the batter and it’s always a delight when I get a bite of one. I’ve tried a bunch of random combinations but my favorite thing to do is to ask them what they think goes well with what I’ve chosen. Sometimes it works out and sometimes I have to adjust it later but I usually leave with an awesome cupcake that is at least enjoyable, even if not my all-time favorite. They are also very accommodating here. They will add sparkles, color, and chocolate or caramel syrup for free. The sparkles are really popular with the people I have brought with me to visit. The large comes with one free topping, otherwise all toppings are .50 each. They have a rack to the side of discount cupcakes you can buy. They’re on sale because they were made the previous day. I usually check what they have there first. Oh, don’t forget to come in on your birthday for a free cupcake! Brigitte’s Bakery – Menu with Prices – 27 N Front St #200, Memphis

I’ve gotten three excellent tres leches birthday cakes from here over the past three years: Tangled, Hello Kitty, and just a colorful one. I want to get the Despicable Me one and the Baby Tigger n Baby Pooh one for my next birthdays but I think I will try a different type of cake if they have them as I’ve had enough tres leches for awhile. My new favorite type of cake is a tres leches chocolate cake with flan on top. Combined with their awesome decorations I’ll have an awesome cake next year as well. They almost always serve their cakes on time and if they are off (which has only happened once) they will give you a coupon discounting off the next cake that doesn’t expire. We got that coupon last year and used it this year. Their bread is pretty standard but my husband seems to like it the best. I don’t eat it much and it all tastes the same to me, but this is for sure where I will always go for authentic Mexican cakes for my birthdays. When I do eat it though, it’s pretty amazing. I recently gave their Chile con Queso a try and was surprised by how much I loved it. I’d tried it at another bakery and disliked it but it’s addicting here. Liked: – Bread: Chile con Queso – Chocolate Cake with Flan on top – Flan de Rompope Ok: – Flan

Cafe Marcel Creperie & Espresso Bar – Menu with Prices – 2281 N Oracle Rd, Tucson

I stopped for breakfast here on this morning on a whim, and I’m so glad I did! It’s a cozy, casual little breakfast spot serving crepes and coffee. The menu is limited — crepes only! — so only come here if you’re definitely in the mood for crepes. This is definitely a case of doing only one thing and doing it very well, though. They do both savory and sweet crepes, which will likely be able to satisfy people all along the savory vs. sweet breakfast spectrum. I got the “Stuffed Frenchie,” which straddles the sweet-savory line by combining egg and brie inside the crepe, and then being topped with cinnamon, maple syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream. I also added bacon at the suggestion of the woman working the counter, and it was a great addition. My breakfast companion got the “Olivia,” which is their most popular crepe. It’s strawberry and Nutella, topped with chocolate, granola, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. She also added banana to it. Both crepes were very good — the Stuffed Frenchie felt more like a solid breakfast, while the Olivia felt like a decadent dessert. Cafe Marcel also has an assortment of tea and coffee drinks, including a delicious nutella mocha. It’s a great pairing with the Olivia!

Rosy’s Bakery Menu with Prices 1875 Commerce Rd, Athens

Best Tres Leche cake I?ve EVER had. I had this cake at a WEDDING this past weekend. I made sure to ask the bride where she got it from, complete with owners name and address! I was serious about this cake! Cannot wait for every occasion to have an excuse to order it! I had vanilla tres leche with small pieces of fruit in it.

Lady Marmalade – Menu with Prices – 265 Broadview Ave, Toronto

One of the best brunch places in Toronto, and surprised that it is in Broadview. Thereâ??s always a line and a wait during breakfast and lunch time but itâ??s because itâ??s sooo good and the place is kind of small (wish it were bigger though). We came here for brunch and got two types of eggs Benedict, the braised beef and the salmon cream cheese one and decided to get extra Brie on the salmon one. They both were ridiculously delicious ð???. The sweet breakfast items also looked great so we got a sweet waffle with blueberry compote, lemon drizzle and whipped cream and that was heavenly too!! The service was excellent as well so I am coming back again very soon.

The Little Things Bakery – Menu with Prices – 2018 Cliff Dr, Santa Barbara

Matthieu is the owner-baker of this unit. I met him today as I picked up my sister’s bd cake. We chatted a bit and he told me that he is from Marseilles : a seaside town in France best known for seafood, Bouillabaisse, Fanny and the Maurice Chevalier movie. A Chooket is a pate choux concoction with various fillings as in a mini cream puff. This “Chooket” is beginning to be an addiction. It happens. Along with picking up the bd cake I bought a couple of Matthieu’s Brownies. Since we were not to carve up the BD cake until later in the afternoon we glommed onto the very subtly chocolate…chocolate brownies. They were pretty much a revelation: dusted with very high quality cocoa and produced with a minimum of sugar and a maximum of high quality chocolate. Very French, very delicious. Very, Very good stuff, Monsieur Matthieu! The flavor and toppings for my sister’s bd cake were her choice as we usually do chocolate but god forgive her…she is not a chocolate fan. (yes, she is in our prayers daily) The actual cake was white with an undercurrent of nuts as in almonds, pecans. The frosting and between the layers was whipped cream but one that was slightly sweet and not the overly stabilized whipped that you usually get when you order a whipped cream cake. In any event this was good stuff. This cake also had strawberry topping as well strawberries in the filling. In regards to the white cake and the chocolate cake we bought last December: both were slightly over baked with the white cake less so. Both were slightly dry and the texture was not as i like: crumbly, moist and basically falls apart (in a good way) in your mouth. Matthieu and his crew are obviously very talented and committed so i know they will clear this up asap. I will definitely be back.

Pacific Bakery – Menu with Prices – 1180 S Bristol St #107, Santa Ana

This is definitely fruit cake’s best kept secret. I’ve tried Vans and Long Phungs and I finally found a fruit tart cake that I really enjoy eating. It’s located in a Bristol Food court, towards the back. It’s owned by a nice Vietnamese family and it appears that all they do are these fruit cakes. This is why I liked this the best. The fruit and whipped cream is very fresh. I’ve had some fruit cakes that were either too cakey or too sweet. This bakery’s cake has a really nice ratio of airy custard whipped cream, the crunchy phyllo dough, fruit and cake. It never feels too heavy and you’ll keep going back for seconds and thirds. I’ve also had fruit cakes in the past that were too custardy for my tastes. Pacific bakery filling is almost like a lightly custardy whipped cream. It’s tasty, it’s light and really good. It also holds up well if you buy it the day before for a party. It’s $28 for a quarter-sheet, which will feed over 10-12 people. They also have half and full sheets if you have a gigantic party or corporate event. I would give this place a chance. I was a little dubious when I entered the food court but it was well worth the adventure. This is a damn good cake.

Decadent Dessert Bar Macon – Downtown – Menu with Prices – 530 Poplar St, Macon

Went here after hearing so much about it from other people. Walking in, the decor is similar to what you’d find after a Fixer Upper episode. Very big area with a few tables. Decorated with a Christmas tree fitting for the holidays. We were greeted as we walked in. The gentleman asked if it was our first time and we said yes. So, he came from behind the table to tell us about the plethora of desserts and hot drinks they had. After speaking with him, we decided we’d have some desserts there and some to-go. We ordered a slice of wedding cake, the donut holes skillet w vanilla gelato, a donut snowman for my wife, and a cannoli for myself. The last two items were to-go. We were super excited about all the choices we made. Especially the skillet. It normally takes about 10 minutes for the skillet to be made, so be patient. The donut holes were warm, gooey and fresh out of the oven… or fryer? The gelato was perfect! Just the right amount of sweet and very creamy. The star of the show was the wedding cake! Very delicious all around cake that brought my wife and I back to the day of our own wedding. The two other items we have yet to taste, but I’m sure we’ll get to them soon! All in all a great experience with great service. We’ll be sure to come back soon.

Waffle and Berry – Menu with Prices – 333 Ward Ave, Honolulu

“We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, or work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.” – Leslie Knope About a month ago while browsing the Ohana Hale Marketplace, I picked up the aromas of fresh made toast or baking bread. I followed my nose to the far back corner (East) and discovered Waffle and Berry. There were two friendly guys busily working their food stall as there was a line of people waiting around for their orders. I made a mental note to return as we had just eaten lunch and were already stuffed. Yesterday we made our way back to Waffle and Berry to try out one of their specialties. We were immediately greeted by Cali and Jordan. Both men are friendly and show that they’re in a happy business of making waffles, açaí bowls and mocktails. Cali’s and Jordan’s signature waffle menu will add some punch to your dessert-love and change your mind about waffles. After chatting with Jordan and Cali, we finally decided upon their Signature Waffles “Aussie in Paradise” and paired them with fresh made-to-order Mojito Mocktails. -Aussie in Paradise: 3 waffles slathered with Nutella (chocolate-hazelnut spread), 2 scoops vanilla ice cream, fresh sliced bananas and strawberries. Dusted with powdered sugar and generously topped with house whipped cream. Cali was very nice to offer us a chocolate and original combination of waffles since there was going to be 3. We excitedly accepted since the combination would give us a sampling of their flavors and waffle textures. By golly, all of the waffles were baked perfectly! Each waffle had a crisp exterior with a fluffy cake-like interior. The two vanilla-flavored waffles were lusciously slathered with Nutella and topped with beautiful and evenly sliced strawberries and bananas. The ice cream and the whipped cream slowly melted over the hot waffles and created a kind of thin Anglaise. Cali customized the third and single waffle from the Aussie in Paradise as a chocolate waffle and served it to us as the menu item listed as the Aloha Chocolate Waffle. It was simply presented with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate chips. I transferred some of the strawberry and banana slices to the chocolate waffle and found that I preferred it over the vanilla waffles. $12 -Strawberry Mojito and Lime Mojito: both mocktails were prepared by Jordan. He made both of these mocktails like a proper mixologist. Both beverages had the right level of sweetness to tartness. They were refreshing and thirst quenching. $7/Mojito We really enjoyed our waffles and Mojito mocktails and the friendly service from Cali and Jordan. We’re looking forward to returning to try more of their menu, soon.
