I would not put Philly Ya Belly on my favorite cheesesteak list. It was a large portion for a small size sandwich, very soft bun that was stuffed with finely diced meat and tons of diced onions, swimming in a pool of white American cheese (consistency of cheese whiz). The bun helped hold it all together as did the cheese. It was hot but primarily got the flavor of the onions and cheese. For anyone from the Midwest, it reminded me of a White Castle cheeseburger. I prefer a toasted roll (which maybe was the French bread option), the meat in bigger pieces, a lot less onions and real, sliced cheese (again, perhaps the $1 provolone option). $8.99 for the sandwich with no options, so not inexpensive. Service was friendly and prompt. Very basic interior with plastic and fluorescent lighting, but clean.

Sandwich King – Menu with Prices – 17885 Sky Park N # G, Irvine

I walked into this sandwich shop the other day for lunch after a night of drinking and was immediately perplexed by the variety of menu items on the board. I counted 8 panels with about 10 items each coming out to roughly 80 different listed sandwiches Fortunately there was no-one behind me in line so i stood looking perplexed at the nice Chinese man waiting patiently to take my order. After a good 5 minutes looking crosseyed at the menu trying not to get dizzy and fall down I gave up and ordered something that i was pretty sure i would like. A tuna melt. “I’ll have the tuna melt” I said The main behind the counter immediately came back with: “What kind of bread would you like?” Oh crap, I hadn’t thought of that. Oh, wait, now where was the bread options in this sandwich matrix. I had to ask. He pointed at the bread options and after a minute of him pointing at the same spot on the menu i finally focused my eyes on the 5 or 6 different bread options. I was confused because they had something like a “Roll” and a “French Roll” and i couldn’t for the life of me figure out why you would need both options. “White Bread” i said “Toasted? ok, so now where were we. 80 options, multiplied by 6 types of bread times 2 for the toasted/not toasted. That comes out to 960! options. “Do you want everything on it?” Shrug.. “Whats everything?” “Lettuce, tomato, pickles, avocado, mustard and mayo” “sure i’ll take it all” Ok, binary math now. each option doubles the original set of options. –grinding gear noise in head– We my friends are now at 61440 possible sandwich combinations! Exhausted I sat down and ate my chips and drink. When the sandwich finally came I took a big bite. The 90% of the tuna squished out the sides along with the avocado. The structurally unsound thin piece of white bread disintegrated in my hands and of course was left with the typical tasteless hard as an apple California Tomato which was cut way too thick. What kind of a moron would order this sandwich? I can’t stand avocado either, not on a sandwich anyway. If i had seen a picture of this sandwich before ordering it i would most certainly have chosen something else. And this is the problem with american society today. Everyone wants to have ALL the options, but the thing is. WE ARE ALL IDIOTS! myself included. And what about this sandwich guy. For me, it’s just another bad sandwich. But for this guy it’s his life. He wakes up in the morning and for at least 8, probably 10 hours a day all he does is makes sandwiches one after another. You would think a guy like that would have some pretty good opinions on what makes a good sandwich and what doesn’t right? If i were doing that job, i would spend years trying to construct the perfect combination of bread meat and cheese and then present ONLY THOSE OPTIONS. that way the customer is much more likely to get a good sandwich. Sure, you can show the options as well and you can offer substitutions for those few who want to order something custom but the vast majority of your clients are just going to order off the menu. But no. Who knows how many years this guy has been in business and he can’t even bother to figure out what makes a good sandwich. This is just pure laziness if you ask me. I give this place 3 stars. a mediocre score for a mediocre sandwich. Oh and i don’t have a picture. but just google “sandwich” and you pretty much get the point.

Gandolfo’s New York Deli Menu with Prices 107 E Stuart Rd, Bellingham

Service is fantastic, the cashier woman at the front is super friendly and caring. I got the Rockefeller Reuben, which is a hot sandwich. I chose pastrami and spicy mustard. The bread got soggy pretty quickly and I think it’s because it’s not grilled/toasted enough while the inside is scorching hot. The contents of the sandwich were good except for those two things. If the bread was toasted further, it would have not gotten soggy. This also happened when I got another sandwich couple years ago. Maybe it would have been different if I got a roll sandwich. Also, I don’t know what type of pickle it was but it did not taste fresh; it tasted a bit stale and kinda old. The prices are pretty spendy for sandwiches. Mine was about $13 plus tax. For this type of sandwich, it should be two or three dollars cheaper.

Big Ed’s Artisan Bread Menu with Prices 601 NE 1st St, Bend

Stopped into the Hop & Brew in Sisters for coffee with my son who is hiking the PCT. After taking him back to the trailhead, I came back to try the grilled tuna sandwich, which is a favorite of mine. When the server brought the sandwich, I let out a little groan because it was on a big roll and I was afraid it would be too much bread. I took one bite and OMG, best grilled tuna I’ve ever had (and I’m kinda old) and the roll was the best roll I’ve ever bitten into. So, this review is as much about Big Ed’s Bakery in Bend as it is about Hop & Brew. The crust and texture of this toasted roll was incredible. On top of that, the tuna salad was delicious as well. People were friendly. Place is clean. I live in Portland but I doubt if I’d drive through Sisters without stopping in for another sandwich…even if I had to wait a while for my food. And, in Bend, I will definitely go to Big Ed’s.

Julian Bakery, Inc. – Menu with Prices – 624 Garrison St, Oceanside

I must say after ordering the Keto Thin bread I regretted it as I started reading the reviews. I trusted Julian Bakery brand but realized I mistaken it with Dudley’s. They use to have a low carb bread but discontinued (years ago). What did catch my attention about all the negative remarks is they responded and most had to do with shipping. I was going to make sure I would be home upon delivery. I ordered the bread on a Sunday and received a confirmation email on Monday and received another email later in day with my shipping info. Scheduled to be shipped on Wednesday and arrival on Thursday. I did select the option to be notified by email when the bread was delivered. I was a bit worried about it being a warm summer day. I was home when the bread was delivered but didn’t know until I checked my email. It’s said it was delivered at 1p and I picked it up from my doorstep at 1:53 pm. It was in the shade and the box was not warm. I checked the product and it appeared to be freshly baked and it does have a pound cake look as someone commented. There was only the three loaves and the invoice in the box and they were not squashed. I checked each loaf for mold but looked as if they were freshly baked. They had a consistent look and feel. I toasted it and made a sandwich. The bread was a tad dry but happy to be eating a sandwich. It tasted fine and held up well. If you compare it to regular bread it is not as moist; but it makes a good sandwich and a great Keto option. it’s taste doesn’t take away from the other sandwich ingredients. I can’t wait to make grilled cheese or try it with almond butter or cream cheese and Everything but the Bagel Seasoning Blend…or French Toast!

The Cheesesteak grill – Menu with Prices – 1771 S Oceanside Blvd, Oceanside

My first time here but without a doubt I’ll be back. It’s so hard to find a place that serves an authentic cheese steak sandwich out here in Cali but this place is the REAL deal! It’s located conveniently off the I-5 freeway so if you just want to grab some sandwiches and go. We pulled up and it’s a small shop located in a strip mall. Just the appearance of this place from the outside made me think this was going to be good. Inside they have a menu posted on the walls and it’s pretty simple. There is plenty of seating and a big screen TV they play sports on. I went for the cheese steak sandwich with hot peppers and a side of “Frings” (french fries & onion rings). They use ribeye steak and only grill up the meat when you order your sandwich. When my meal was ready, just looking at the sandwich I knew I had found a great place. My first bite into the sandwich let me know I was right. I can’t remember the last time I had such a delicious cheese steak sandwich and never this good here in Cali. The meat was tender and the most flavorful! Just the right amount of cheese and the sandwich bread was soft and fresh! I love a sandwich like this where there’s nothing I want to add it’s so delicious. The onion rings and french fries were also good. While I would say the onion rings were good, the fries were the best! Next time I’ll just get the fries. My friend had the garlic fries and I can only assume they were good because she ate them all up and I never got a chance to try them. If you are a fan of cheese steak sandwiches, this place is a MUST! I don’t think you’ll find a better cheese steak! I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Michealangelo’s Pizza and Pasta – Menu with Prices – 700 Locust St, Des Moines

I had a chance to order Sammies in today so I choose a couple items off their menu. Iowegian Bacon, ham, turkey, cheese (?), pickles, mustard, on a pressed hoagie roll. Big Beefy Roast beef, cheese (Swiss I think), roasted mushrooms, peppers, onions, on a hoagie roll. Both sandwiches were very good. The Iowegian was reminiscent of a Cuban and had a nice smokey flavor to the meat. Each component complimented another. You may wonder why I noted the cheese with a question mark… I think it had cheese on it, but it didn’t really stand out and I couldn’t find an online menu to verify everything. The Big Beefy isn’t exactly what I would call BIG, but it was good. Once again a well put together sandwich. I wasn’t fond of the to go packaging with this one… The wax paper and cheese were hard to separate and one kind of blended in with the other. I can’t knock it for taste though. The au jus worked well with the sandwich. It was kind of a Philly/Italian beef hybrid. Kudos for putting their own spin on each sandwich. Make sure you load up on napkins… Neither sandwich came out of the packaging clean. Definitely not something to try to eat in the car while you’re driving. Each sandwich was in the between $7.50 and $8.00 range. Were they worth it? They were. They had that straight out of the kitchen feel to them. Not a processed meat assembly line feel.

West Caribbean Cuban Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 2215 S Combee Rd, Lakeland

Worst Cuban sandwich I have ever eaten, tiny portion of meat on the sandwich and they don’t use roasted pork like any real Cuban I’ve had and I’ve had TONS….they use a nasty tasting sliced pork. The bread taste like regular white bread and nothing like true Cuban bread, asked for my sandwich pressed and it was not pressed at all. Beef empanada was dry and tasteless. Breakfast menu was tiny and service was slow and horrible. I was embarrassed that I brought a group of 7 from my job there that’s for sure. Also k ow their FB is fake as they deleted my negative comment on their fake sandwich picture post and never even reached out to me about the issues.

Countryside Meats & Deli – Menu with Prices – 781 Highgrove Pl, Rockford

I was on the hunt for a Chicago style corned beef sandwich in Rockford. Yelp’s #1 pick was Countryside Meats & Deli. Well, Yelp, you missed the mark on that one, but Countryside is great for other things. First of all, I tried the corned beef sandwich. It tasted like a corned beef sandwich I could make at home, and not in a good way. All the ingredients were fresh and appropriate but there was nothing that would make me want to leave my house and purchase the sandwich. It also wasnt Chicago style, but that’s probably not relevant to most people reading the reviews. I also tried the daily special, which a turkey and bacon sandwich on a croissant. I liked it much more so than the corned beef sandwich. Again, simple ingredients, but the combination worked very well and I would likely get it again. Someone else ordered chilli and french onion soup and based on the smell I had to try the french onion. It is made in house and came with a small piece of toasted covered in melted cheese. The flavor of the french onion soup was AMAZING although the onions had not reduced enough. I would go back, but Yelp, this is not the place for a corned beef sandwich.

Petty’s Meat Market – Menu with Prices – 6115 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne

Let me say this place is something special. All the staff are so friendly and cheerful. The guy behind the butcher counter had me cracking up while explaining all the choices of meat, the lady at the register told me her stories from Jersey while my sandwiches were being made. They have wine tasting, beer tasting, and free coffee. Many choices for condiments, suaces, marinades and dressings. Tons of cheese and wine and beer. They serve boars head lunch meat and will make your sandwich anyway you like. They have white bread, onion roll, kaiser roll, french roll, rye and marble rye bread. I ordered the Italian sub, dill chicken, and rueben. All were very very good. All prices are $6-7 dollars which is cheap for the size of the sandwich. They also have plenty of side such as Greek spinach salad, antipasta, Italian noodle salad, marinated mushrooms, two different kinds of cucumber salad etc. They also have hot items on special daily such as veggie or meat lasagna, stuffed peppers and other options. They bbq on the weekends so you can order your meat fresh from the butcher and have them cook it up!! Haven’t tried that yet but will in the future! Great food, great people, great service.

Big John Steak & Onion – Menu with Prices – 4021 W Saginaw Hwy #2109, Lansing

I had seen Big John Steak and Onion locations several times on previous trips to Michigan and was always intrigued but never tried them out until very recently. I was on my way to the airport and planned to stop for a quick lunch and thought this was a perfect time to give Big John’s a try, however at this location the curb appeal is not the best and I almost went to Arby’s instead, but I did decide to stick with Big John’s…and I am glad did. Inside the restaurant was decently clean and had friendly attentive staff working the counter. After some deliberation I ordered a 16′ steak and cheese combo that came with a side of fries and a large soda, this did not make for a cheap lunch as the bill was over $18 with tax (the large sandwich was $13.50 alone). There was not many choices of sides for the combo other than the waffle fries I had, or I believe potato chips or mac and cheese were the other options. I may try the mac & cheese next time but the waffle fries were fine, freshly cooked and served piping hot, just not a very large order. As for the sandwich it was huge and delicious, the bun was soft but chewy, and as long as my arm. The meat was very juicy and tasty, and the American Swiss cheese was the perfect compliment adding a gooey cheesy richness, love at first bite. The onions were there but didn’t really standout as they were cooked down quit a bit so their flavor was very subtle, perhaps a few more onions would have been my personal preference. The amount of meat to bread ratio was okay, the meat was loaded quite full in the center of the bun but a bit thin towards the ends, once distributed more evenly the meat ratio was just okay (seems like they leave room for other toppings which I didn’t have on this sandwich), at 16′ this is a BIG sandwich but as a hearty eater I managed to eat all of it, it is just a bit too much bread IMO…to me the perfect size would be a 12′ but with the same amount of meat as the 16′, however the next size down on the menu is 8’…maybe next time I will try a 8′ with the ‘50% extra meat’ option they have on the menu. I have read several comparisons of this sandwich to the chessesteaks famous in Philadelphia and I have to totally agree…this is the closest I have found to the real thing outside of Philly, which is nothing like what most places call a ‘Philly Steak and Cheese Sandwich’…you have to taste the difference. A couple of slight misses was that the order taker asked if I would like some ‘peppers’ on the side, which I said yes to but did not receive, and secondly they did not put any napkins on my tray (and there were none out anywhere I could see) so I had to go back up and stand at the counter to ask for some…if I had noticed I didn’t have any peppers on my tray I would have asked for them too but I didn’t and wasn’t going back up to the counter again while my food got cold. All in all I really enjoyed the steak and cheese sandwich at Big John’s and hope to get back to Michigan again soon to have another.

Greek Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 11811 College Blvd, Overland Park

I was disappointed in my whole restaurant experience. Bummer too, been looking for a good, mouthwatering just thinking about it, Greek foodie for my go to. I ordered the Gyro sandwich lunch special…gyro, fries and drink. The price was reasonable, but not compared to the quality, and quantity of the food received, it wasn’t worth it. The pita was cold, and hard in places (not fresh). It was wrapped, not folded over, too. It consisted of the meat, sliced onions, and few pieces sliced tomatoes. They gave you the sauce on the side. The flavor was bland, …I thought to myself, I could have made this at home, using store bought greek packaged food. The food came out to you hot. The place was small, and tables were kinda too close together. Not much on the Greek style within. It was clean. The womens restroom was clean, too. The service was good, and friendly enough. Sorry to say, I will pass next time. Happy eating!

Runts Munchies LLC. – Menu with Prices – 529 5th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids

I had heard only good from local radio stations about Runtâ??s Munchies so we thought we would give it a try. My husband ordered the corn dog waffle, a novel idea but he said it wasnâ??t done all the way through. It did have loads of hot dog pieces in it, probably the most meat of our whole meal. We may try this idea at home though. I started with the Rueben egg rolls, again disappointing as it had one slice of lunch meat corned beef in it, hardly any sauerkraut or Swiss cheese, it was mainly the fried wonton wrapper. Again we will try making these at home. I had the club wrap which to me was the best thing I had as it had really crisp bacon pieces in it, just like I like bacon. I would have put some ranch dressing on it but used the 1000 island from the egg roll. My husband had the tenderloin wrap which had very small pieces of diced tenderloin but again, disappointing. We were the only one there so our food was hot when served. For the $30 our food cost, we will go somewhere else next time.
