Pretty stoked this ramen shop opened up a Fremont location. ? You can never really have too many great ramen shops in town since they all tend to be tiny and have super hyped up lines around the block. This shop is located near the slowly expanding Fremont Downtown area. It shares the lot with the Fremont Bill’s cafe and also some German deli. Parking is easy during slow hours. The decor is fine. Somewhat traditional with splashes of modern. I don’t quite understand what the wooden stage/platform area is for. There’s a couple low tables on it with no chairs or pillows (for traditional Japanese style seating). I’ve never seen anyone sit in this area and yet it takes up some really good space. The service here is friendly and efficient for such a small staff. So on to the food… Excellent ramen. Noodles are slightly thicker and have good bite to them. You can opt for less cooked if you prefer more “bite”. That’s how I enjoy it. Their broths are flavorful and complex. You have the option to control salt levels to some degree. Both broths I’ve tried so far (spicy Jigoku and black garlic) are delicious. BTW – the level 2 of 4 spiciness was a surprising bowl of heat. The marinated soft boiled egg is cooked well; good saltiness and a near-perfect runny yolk. ? I always opt for two. Haven’t tried many of their appetizers yet, but if you’re a fan of beef tongue as I am, their grilled beef tongue with lemon garlic sauce is a winner! I do hope that weird raised platform area gets used for dining once this place gets discovered and busier.

Hakata Ikkousha Ramen – Menu with Prices – 21605 S Western Ave J, Torrance

Service (5/5): Great service, no complaints here! Food (5/5): BEST RAMEN IN TORRANCE! I don’t remember what the ramen name was exactly I think it was the Black Fire? It’s a mixture of the black garlic tonkotsu and god fire broths SOOOOO AAAAMMAAZZZZIINNNGG!!!!! Very rarely do you ever see ramen that mixes both broths and I absolutely love it. The garlic isn’t overpowering and you can definitely taste the spiciness coming through and I got level 1. It’s great how you can choose how strong you want the broth, the level of hardness of your noodle, and what toppings are added. I also have to hype up their meat. It’s tender and not fatty at all. Ambiance (5/5): The walls display their accolades and how many restaurants are distributed around the globe. I love how the back of the menu has a little manga of how to properly eat their ramen. I also went at a time that wasn’t busy but because of the size I can imagine how it can get crowded with a long waiting time. Price (4/5): I paid $17 for my ramen. It personally think it’s expensive but it was so good I’d say you’re paying for its quality.

Shoku Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 1221 Alhambra Blvd Suite 107, Sacramento

I suggested and bookmarked this new ramen spot after coming across it on Yelp while ever searching for gems to eat at in the 916. My fam trusted me. So off we went. It is near my wife’s work UC DAVIS on Folsom Blvd. This shop is nearby on Alhambra. Ok they have their own lot. Funny they have signs barring Kru, Star Ginger etc from parking in their spots. Parking is at a premium downtown. Sad but true. I got a black garlic ramen $8.99 and asked for extra spicy. Damn. I coughed and choked on the ripping ass hot heat. Nice. The broth I could taste was good. Better than Natomas Fins and Koshi. Not as good as Ryujin and Raijin. Those are the Sac top standards for ramen and ramen broth. But this place is killer! Decent portion and good stuff in the bowl. My daughter got the tofu ramen $6.50 and a breaded pork sammy. She liked both. This kid likes ramen at home, away, anywhere. Lol. She liked the sando. I tried it and it was ok. But can’t beat the $5 tag. Wife got the Tonkotsi ramen $8.99 and liked it. They also have apps and udon too. Plain ramen is just $5! Good for meatless lovers. Just a note that you get 2 pieces of pork in the black garlic and tonkotsu. They were yummy and the egg was def the porn variety and was cooked perfectly. Conclusion: My ass is coming back here as often as I can. Drawback? It is downtown. Traffic is always messy. At least parking is not street so no gouging by the gentrifying Sac downtown due to councilmembers and the city trying to turn Sac into SF and Bay Area #2.

Oka Ramen 2 – Menu with Prices – 5605 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs

Only giving this 3 stars because of the service. I come from San Diego, which has some amazing ramen choices and was very let down after arriving and finding the reviews did not quite match up to what was expected. I had the Tan Tan spicy ramen which was….very GROSSLY sweet. I have never had something taste like spicy sugar with noodles thrown in. Just…ew. I’ve been to japan and not even the worst ramen place was like this… I’m sorry to those who do love it, but my god there are much better options out there! Options that don’t drown things in sugar! I will say that the spicy garlic edamame was good. But sadly that’s the most positive thing I can say….

Katsu Ramen Bar – Menu with Prices – 3809 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy Ste 106 -C, Lafayette

If you like light food then this is the type of Ramen you’d likely prefer. I on the other hand have a southern palate which craves complex salty broths. I was super duper excited to hear of this place when it opened because I am a long time lover of anything Japanese. I heard that the chef came all the way from Japan to inject his authentic cuisine into a land of fried things that are fried again or in a puddle of roux (which by the way I love just as much). I bought the black garlic ramen, takoyaki, and okonomiyaki. I was SOO excited to taste REAL okonomiyaki as every article I read about Japanese food says this is a must try. The ramen was light. Light on seasoning, oil, garlic, and salt. Which is okay and I have also read that some places in Japan serve their broths like this. The noodles were good. The sides however were a bit lacking and I feel as if the chashu was a bit undercooked. The takoyaki was cold even though I received my order not long after placing it. They serve it Osaka style (crispy outside gooey inside). But the fact that it was cold made it a little harder to eat because it in its nature is a fishy/seafoody tasting appetizer. Being cold also took away from the crispy outside. The okonomiyaki was good but a bit cool as well. I don’t have too much to complain about this but it did have a very seafood heavy flavor as well. Overall I think the food was decent but could use more seasoning and should have been hotter. The fish/seafood flavor is strong it appears in their appetizers so be forewarned about that (which is not a bad thing, it is just not preferred by some.)

Gan Shan West Menu with Prices 285 Haywood Rd, Asheville

We went horse back riding on a nice sunny day. As we were on our way to visiting craft brewery the weather started to deteriorate and became cloudy and cold. So our plans changed from visiting craft brewery to a restaurant that served hot and spicy ramen. We looked at some reviews on Yelp and found Gan Shan West to be the best among all the other options. We ordered one tradition pork ramen with miso soup and one order of their special spicy beef ramen with a big chunk of bamboo. I am a huge fan of pork ramen and I have had pork ramen in many places. This one was a little bland, I would have liked it to be a little more spicier. So I had to add additional spicy paste to make it spicier. But I was still a little disappointed, nevertheless their spicy beef ramen was delicious and flavorful. The bamboo chunk added nice texture to it. I have seen bamboo shoots but this was my first time seeing a huge chunk of bamboo. Bamboo has many medicinal properties so definitely try this out. Pricing is equivalent to other ramen places. It could range anywhere from $13 to $15. Ambiance is nice. They also have veggie option. Also, they have paid parking spaces on the street if you’re planning to drive. 4 stars because I was a little disappointed by pork ramen. Otherwise, it was a perfect late evening lunch on a cloudy and gloomy day.

Nikugen Steak & Ramen – Menu with Prices – 4710 Preston Rd #300, Frisco

Ordered 2 types of buns. Chicken buns 2/5 Fried chicken chunks in a bun, $5 for 2 pieces. Average but the sauce they put on it, was too spicy. My kid couldn’t eat it. Honestly , you put Chick fil a chicken on Chinese buns, it tastes better than this!!! Hey I’ll try that later. Chasu / pork bun 4/5 Slightly better since for whatever reasons, they didn’t put that much sauce (same spicy sauce as on the chicken buns) on it. At least my kid could eat this. The meat was sliced ok, not too thin. Meat wasn’t chewy but didn’t melt in our mouth, either. Just acceptable. Black garlic ramen 4/5 I liked the soup. Their ramen was so thin and straight like angel hair pasta. The soup was very subtle (read : I’m used to stronger both). It depends on your taste. Hubby who likes stronger tasting ramen soup didn’t like it as much. It came with only 2 pieces of pork. Like someone already mentioned, why wouldn’t the restaurant peel the egg for us? Instead we must labor and peel it ourself . Nikugen ramen 3/5 Same angel hair pasta with subtle soup. Nothing memorable. Portion was not that big. Black garlic ramen was $11, Nikugen ramen $10 but black garlic was in a big bowl while Nikugen yeahhh just in standard size bowl. The hibachi stuff yeah, they are $15 and up, even kids meal is $11-12. So a little pricey . Nice decor

Stix Noodle Bar – Menu with Prices – 72 Franklin St, Worcester

Nothing like warm ramen on a rainy Sunday. Woman and I were the only ones in the restaurant and wanted beef spicy ramen only to be told they had no beef…what??? You have no beef? How could this be feasible? I mean, if anyone working there cared there would be a way to get some beef fr the soup! Even Peopod could deliver in an hour…simply points to lack of leadership and lack of care. Ordered two spicy chicken ramens to eat there. Surprisingly, they were served in a paper to-go container. There was also only plastic ware with no spoons like one expects with ramen…WTF? How little does one care to not provide the simply bowls and spoons that are known to accompany authentic ramen? The lack of a proper bowl and spoon (like in all their pictures and promotions) affected the overall presentation and taste…who serves ramen in a to-go paper container for dine-in? The chicken was barely 3 ounces…a rip-off for the price tag of about ten bucks. The broth lacked spice, depth and any character whatsoever. My woman’s egg still had pieces of shell on it! I like to judge each place on my own, but it is clear there are, and have been, major issues with this place that have not been directly addressed. So sad as it is in walking distance to where I live. All I can say is that I am eager for the new ramen place opening down the block (seems more authentic) and in the meantime will get much better, cleaner and wholesome food at the many places in and around the park (for example a killer $6.50 gyro on the next block). I do not expect this place to survive if it continues to operate as it has been…no beef on a Sunday? Pathetic!

Ramen Hakata – Menu with Prices – 8300 Gaylord Pkwy #16, Frisco

I love this ramen spot, and I’m so glad they opened a location in Allen! I had never really had true ramen before, most of my ramen experience was from a packet. After we tried a spot in Dallas I was craving ramen daily, but didn’t want to drive out to Dallas. I tried a few place in Plano that did not meet my expectations and then finally found this place! The ramen here, not matter which one you get, is delicious. The tonkatsu is my favorite, and what a recommend to everyone, especially if you’re new to ramen. The broth is so meaty and delicious, unlike anything else. The noodles are always cooked perfect, not too soft or mushy. The miso ramen is also great, but once you e had tonkatsu, it’s hard to try anything different! The spicy tonkatsu is very spicy! To beware there. I’ve also had the udon, which isn’t always my favorite, but there’s is delicious, and the noodles are so tasty. The space is a small and quaint and very well kept. I love their wood decor, it adds a lot to the experience. If you’re staying for dessert try the strawberry mochi! The chocolate one is okay, but strawberry is the bomb! I highly recommend checking this place out if you like delicious ramen! They have multiple locations in the metroplex so you might have one near you if this one is too far.

Slurp Ramen – Menu with Prices – 710 Commercial St, San Francisco

I got the Tonkotsu Red ramen because I enjoy spicy food. I would say if you’re a spicy food lover this isn’t really spicy at all. It does say mildly spicy on the menu though. It’s $14.00 and comes with a soft egg. We came here on a Friday night and around 5pm surprisingly it wasn’t packed at all. There was only two tables here. It isn’t the biggest shop but I can imagine that they’re pretty efficient in getting people in and out when it’s busy. The ramen came out really fast. I liked how fast it came because I was quite hungry. I wasn’t amazed by the ramen but it wasn’t terrible either. The broth was alright, it felt like it was a bit on the saltier side. I thought that they could add a little bit more food because it was filling but I felt like I could still eat more if I wanted to. I would probably come here with friends again if I was in the area. We had a nice server! He was attentive to us and came by to refill our water when he noticed it was running low. Parking was really hard to find and eventually we just paid to be at the nearby garage.

Manpuku Tokyo BBQ Dining – Menu with Prices – 1870 W Carson St, Torrance

Dining here was my first time trying Japanese bbq and I was very satisfied! My boyfriend and I came around 7:30pm on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. We ordered: the selected special wagyu chuck flap ($15/each “flap”), prime short rib kalbi (14.50), kobe rib eye (32.5), beef tataki (13.50), and one of the signature beef tongue dishes (I don’t remember which one because they were out of the one that we originally ordered), and garlic rice (8.00). The selected special wagyu chuck flap was my favorite. It is super thin slice of beef, about 6 inches long. They prep the grill with a piece of fat and then grill the flaps for you. Then, they prepare a raw egg dip for the dish. After its done cooking, they use the meat to wrap around a tiny ball of rice (about the size of a ping-pong ball) and dip it in the egg sauce they made. Super tender and flavorful. The kobe rib eye and prime short rib were also both amazing. These ones you grill yourself so you can have it however you like (rare, medium, etc.). We had most of our slices medium, but we did try cooking each type at different levels. We concluded that they tasted best medium/medium rare. Both these dishes were also very soft, full of flavor, and easy to eat. The beef tataki and beef tongue didn’t quite make it to my favorites list. The beef tataki comes with 6-8 slices of rib eye with marinated onions and white dashi. The onions and dashi were the perfect sides for it, but the beef was just too chewy. I was chewing for minutes and it would not budge – I just had to give up and swallow the entire thing. The beef tongue was not as chewy as the tataki (thank goodness) but still more chewy than the previous dishes. The slices of beef tongue are topped with garlic and green onions which provided a really nice flavor to it, but I just prefer my beef softer. The garlic rice was great! It comes in a stone pot and you can either serve it immediately if you like softer rice or wait a white for it to get crispier in the stone pot. I like crispy rice so I let it sit for a while before serving it. There is enough for maybe 2-3 people. I definitely recommend getting the rice! It is super flavorful – I’ve never had garlic rice taste that garlic-y before. Overall, my first experience trying JBBQ was great! It is a little pricey (our bill was a little over $100) so it’s won’t be a common meal for me, but I will definitely be back in the future!

Ampersand Asian Supper Club – Menu with Prices – 940 N High St, Columbus

It was only a matter of time before I came here. I am the Ramen King (Self Proclaimed LOL). I love ramen so much, I once had a dream I was taking a bath in ramen ? …. Well let me get to the review before it gets too weird lol. I heard of Ampersand through my brother, he told me of a new place that just came up in the short. So I decided I had to go give it a test. Walking in, I really liked the interior. I’m a huge fan of natural light. Everything was well lit with big windows. This place also had a traditional Japanese look, with a very modern flair, clean and sleek. And who doesn’t like that? I also like the fact that they had one of those tables that sits low to the floor, like in traditional Japanese places. But I wish they had more than one. Next time ill wait for the table to open! Now when it was time to order I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. One of the basic and classic Ramen bowls you could get. So I normally use this as a baseline on how good a place is. When I got it, the presentation was done really well. It looked and smelled awesome. Now the first rule for me is to taste the broth first, this tells me a lot about how good the bowl is. If the broth is just ok, then the ramen won’t stand out. But the broth was actually pretty good. Nice depth to the flavor. Rich sort of flavor. The noodles had a nice bite, egg was good. But as I was eating my bowl and got about halfway through I noticed something alarming!! They forgot to put my PORK IN THERE! As you can see in the picture attached to this review. There was no pork included. I had to go back up to the counter and ask for my pork. It’s almost as if the guy didn’t believe me because he went to my table and looked at my ramen (that was already half eaten, so he probably really didn’t believe me ), but he got my pork really quickly. And let me tell you. When I added that pork with the nice char on it, into the rest of my ramen. It added a whole new depth of flavor that complemented the broth so well. I really REALLY wish I was given my pork from the beginning. Overall the ramen was pretty good. Having the pork from the start would have boosted it, but since I didnt I can only go off of what I had. The ramen also wasn’t very traditional, in a sense. It’s hard to explain. But this is a fusian place, so not everything will be “traditional”. But it was good nonetheless. Overall I will or sure come back: 1. To try the low table 2. To get the ramen again but with the pork in it from the start lol It’s not a traditional Japanese place. But that’s fine. They are doing their own thing which i like. It helps them build identity and their own brand. I’ll update this review upon further visits, I really want to try more on the menu. PS. Their free Tea is really good. Its has a weird sweet type of flavor thats different. Give it a try.

Thai Diamond Bar.B.Q. – Menu with Prices – 9581 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cucamonga

Ordered some thai food via grub hub from here. Food came in a timely fashion. I ordered the following: 1. Thai bbq pork spare ribs- these were good. Large pieces. Tender. Flavoring though was so so, wish it was bolder or spicier. But it fell more on the bland side. But I do appreciate the tenderness of it. 2. Garlic and pepper beef- thinly sliced beef. On the tender side as well. But flavors were really lacking. Couldn’t taste the garlic at all. A good amount of beef though compared to peppers. 3. Fillet of fish in mint leaves- not spicy at all. Ok size fish pieces. Fish was cooked well. 4. Coconut soup- this soup made my review go from a solid 3 star to a 4 star review. You get some thai places, where there coconut soup is just so spicy, it’ll burn your mouth. Some places are just so spicy it actually detracts from the flavor. Yes this one was about a 4/10 on my spicy level, but it really allowed me to taste all the flavors. The coconut, the lemon grass, the depths of flavors. It was a flavor explosion in my mouth!! I had it with chicken, which was tender and delicious. I can see myself ordering this soup on a cold night or if I’m under the weather. It was truly one of the best thai coconut soup I’ve ever had!!! Overall I didnt actually go in so there’s an aspect of this place I didn’t experience, but I definitely wouldn’t mind coming in to try other traditional thai dishes such as their pad thai, fried rice, and definitely their coconut soup again!!
