Hu-Dat has become an institution in this town and their new location in Gulfway Plaza lives up to that reputation. The interior is bright and fresh and beautifully decorated – left over from the previous “Hot Pot” restaurant that used to be there. But, there seems to be more regular table seating than before. We each ordered the rice clay pot; hers with chicken, mine with BBQ pork. They came blazing hot in large ceramic pots. The flavors were outstanding – everything I remember that Hu-Dat delivers. The vegetables had a nice bite to them – very fresh. The pork was tasty and tender. It was the perfect ratio of rice to meat to vegetables, too. Excellent dish. And the whole pot stays HOT for quite a while so be warned. The only mark against this new place was the service. Don’t know if he was the manager, bartender or what, but he seemed a bit distracted. I had to grab a waitress to ask for the hot chile oil he never brought. And she did so promptly with a smile. Prices are comparable and quite reasonable. We’ll certainly be back.

Sen Yai Sen Lek Thai – Menu with Prices – 2422 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis

I’ve visited this place several times; love the atmosphere and friendly service. Great place to enjoy some Thai food while hanging out with friends. Food(***): the menu has pretty much all typical Thai dishes besides additional options for vegetarians and gluten-free. +Thai ice tea is a Must with a nice ratio between milk and tea. +For an appetizer, I ordered Taohoo Tod: the tofu was crunchy and fresh, which is a big plus. Though the dipping sauce is a bit much of vinegar on the first bite. +For the main dish, I got Laab with chopped pork. All the Thai flavors (spicy, sour, and sweet) were there. The pork was nice with some fat mixed with fresh purple and green onion and lemongrass. I just wish it has a little less of the sauce at the bottom so the overall taste stays more consistent. +A perfect way to finish a Thai meal is having Khao Neow Mamuang (sweet sticky rice with mango); their sticky rice was good though the mango could be a bit riper. Service(****): Their service is very good: extremely friendly and fast. The food came out within 15 minutes on a Saturday night. Atmosphere(***): Pictures and interior paint made me feel like I am back in an Asian country. Though the fish deco hanging on the wall doesn’t fit within the Thai theme. Nice open bar and big opening window at the entrance.

Libby’s Thai Bistro – Menu with Prices – 525 FL-16 #103, St. Augustine

This place is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The restaurant is perfect for date night or lunch/dinner with friends. It’s very nicely decorated and cozy. Great ambiance. Our waitress was very helpful and answered all our menu questions. The menu offered different degrees of spiciness for each dish. Our table ordered four different entrees. Each of us ordered different levels of spiciness. We were all very happy with the taste and freshness of our entrees. The food came out quite fast. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly and there was a good ratio of chicken and vegetables in my Pad See Ew. One person had to order gluten free and had quite a few choices. He ended up ordering the Pad Thai. It was excellent. There were curly egg noodles in the Pad Ba-mee and an excellent sauce. The Drunken Noodles with pork had great spice. We all loved our entrees! We would definitely recommend this place. Excellent food and service.

Joojak Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 3337 Kingsway, Vancouver

It’s been a year or two since my first visit to Joojak Restaurant. Been back twice recently. They’re a Northern Chinese hole in the wall spot right next door to Sushi Aji. The inside is small with only 5 tables but service is sweet and run by two ladies who run the front. Nice that they bring you out water and hot tea. The menu is split into Xian specialties, noodle soups, boiled/fried dumplings, wonton soup, soup, vegetables, main dishes, congee and special combos. Trip #1 We dropped in on a Tuesday evening (around 7:00pm) and it was busy. – Xian pork burger (#1) ($5.50) – pork was moist and tender. Dip in vinegar sauce for some extra flavour. – Xian lamb burger (#2) ($5.95) – lamb had a decent cumin rub on it. – Xian cold noodle (#3) ($8.50) – with gluten, bean sprouts and sliced cucumbers. This is legit! Love the springy bite from the noodles. Everyone had a bowl of li piang on their table. – Beef & noodle soup (#10) ($9.95) – broth is plain and simple. Beef slices were thin and tasty. – Dumplings in spicy sour soup (#23) ($11.99) – you choose from four different dumplings; we opted for the pork and chive. You get a dozen dumplings with a solid meat to skin ratio. The wrapper was excellent, broth was well balanced and seaweed was a welcome addition. – Steamed chicken with chili sauce (#36) ($10.99) – this is their best (aka. signature) dish. The chicken is incredibly tender, moist and flavourful. Love the sauce underneath. There’s even bits of pickled vegetable. Wish they gave you a bowl of rice to soak up all the sauce. Trip #2 We dropped in on a Saturday (around noon) and were the only ones there. – Xian pork burger (#1)( $5.50) – our friends ordered one to share. – Green onion pancake (#9) ($4.50) – it’s cut into 8 pieces. A little small but tasty. – Xian cold noodle (#4) ($8.95) – this one is with gluten, sliced cucumbers, bean sprouts and sesame paste. Solid. – Hand pulled noodle with hot chili oil (#13) ($8.95) – first time trying their Biang Biang noodles; good bite but there weren’t a ton of noodles. – Boiled dumpling with pork & bok choy (#19) ($9.95 for 12) – we opted for ours to be boiled. Dumplings are homemade and the pork filling is excellent. – Steamed chicken with chili sauce (#36) ($10.99) – always a must order. Their chicken still reigns supreme. Another solid Northern Chinese spot. Will be back to try their larger main dishes next time.

Hunan Garden Chinese Restaurant – Menu with Prices – 963 Ann St, Montgomery

I would give it between a 2 and 3. Lets start with good and move to what I see could be improved. My wife had General Tso, very tasty chicken all the meat was tender. I had a classic pork egg foo young, cooked perfectly. Know for my detractors we also order crab Rangoon and the batter was great and cooked great but their was next to NO filling inside, very disappointing. The gravy for the egg foo young was tasty but very thin and watery. Our pork fried rice had a burn flavor (like smoked, good for meat but not Chinese rice) and the last item the egg roles had a extra salty bite to them. Overall we may give this place a try again to confirm or improve.

Basil Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine – Menu with Prices – 909 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett

When I first went inside, I was seated immediately by a waiter. The staff was very friendly and polite towards me and other people, and the atmosphere and interior was very welcoming and clean. I felt very comfortable. I was already in a good mood, but the music also created a positive vibe which supports my claims of a welcoming atmosphere. As for the food, it was surprisingly cheap despite the large portion of food on the plate. The grilled pork with steamed rice was very well done. The pork wasn’t difficult to cut and the rice absorbs the flavor of the meat which gives it more taste. The soup and vegetables that came with the dish was a nice refresher! I had enough room to order an iced coffee, and I was not disappointed; the ice coffee was perfect. I don’t usually leave restaurants with a full stomach, but today’s the day! I’d gladly come back for more.

Creative Deli – Menu with Prices – 6837 Nancy Ridge Dr # F, San Diego

Stopped here after spotting it while driving by. Really glad that we did. We ordered the Philly Cheesesteaks and I got a mocha frappuccino. The sandwiches were huge! The bread was fresh and toasted just right so it was crunchy on the outside but still hot and soft on the inside. The ratio of meat to bun to cheese was perfect. The vegetables were also cooked to perfection and the cheese was fully melted. The frappuccino was delicious as well, not too much chocolate like a lot of places tend to do. I would have liked it more if it had whipped cream, but that’s just me being picky. We were both very glad that we decided to stop in and will definitely be back! Honestly, after a few more trips, this might get bumped to a 5 star. Consider it a 4.5 from us.

Cafe Dang Anh – Menu with Prices – 1C9, 5186 Victoria Dr, Vancouver

There are so many great options for pho in this area that it sometimes gets a little hard to figure out where to get your fix. Wanted to try a new place this time and with the suggestion of fellow yelpers, we found ourselves here. This little place is tucked away between two mexican places and can be easy to pass by if you’re not paying attention. We got the Bun Rie + Cha Ca pho (Grilled fish and fresh water crab pho), spring rolls and the Banh Cuon Cha Lua (stuffed pancake pork pie). We also saw a bunch of people ordering chinese donuts on the side so we got an order as well. The pho noodle itself is a wider version than the regular pho noodle. Like the cantonese style rice noodle. The soup is a mild sweet tomato based stock that is fresh and super flavourful. Although similar to the Hoang Yen style, Dang Anh’s is a more milder and fresher taste in my opinion. The fish cakes were the star of the dish for me. It was fragrant and full of flavour. The stuffed pork pancake is similar to the cantonese style rice rolls you can get at a dim sum restaurant. They came with a side of veggie and herbs and some vietnamese ham. It’s a little on the small side so if you’re hungry it may not be enough. They come with fish sauce to dunk the rice rolls in and they are amazing! This is a super fresh dish to get if you’re not in the mood for hot noodles. The rice rolls are nice and thin and the meat to roll ratio was perfect, not too much or too little. Spring rolls were nice, not amazing but okay. The wrapping is good not like the lame chinese restaurant wonton skin ones, actual rice paper roll. Tl;dr Great noodles and broth. Restaurant owner/servers are really nice and helpful. They take their time to explain dishes and make recommendations which is very hard to find in many vietnamese restaurants. Would definitely recommend if you want yummy noodles and don’t want to wait in line for the other competitors around the area.

UNI CURRY BOWL RESTAURANT & CATERING – Menu with Prices – 230 N 17th St, Lincoln

Was impressed by the basmati rice, it was perfect. My wife is Thai and makes great green curry, so I got that for comparisons sake. It was pretty good, the right amount of spice and flavor combined with the good rice pulled the dish together. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, just squash and carrots though. Bottom line was the food was fresh, flavorful and healthy. Mixing the curry sauce was necessary to carry the dish, as the chicken was pretty basic, but once everything was mixed it was very tasty. The service was also very fast, comparable to if I’d gone through a drive through, so that was nice I was really distressed to see no one in the establishment during the lunch rush. I hate it when I see Burger King and Macdonald’s with lines out the door and a nice local place just struggling to survive.

Shish Kabob – Menu with Prices – 1202 French St, Erie

This restaurant offers excellent Middle Eastern food at very reasonable prices. The portions are huge and everything is extremely tasty and well seasoned. I had the Kafta grill and it came with a delicious bowl of lentil soup, a great salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and dill, and the grill itself had three Kafta kabobs, overly grilled vegetables, and a huge mound of vegetable rice. Even though the vegetables were charred they still were very good and the rice was fantastic. The Kafta was a bit different from what I’ve had before but still very good. My friend had the chicken shish kabab and it was also extremely tasty. The ambiance of the restaurant is plain and not the greatest but it’s clean. The only downside was the speed of service because one person was doing everything, from waiting on the tables to doing the cooking but he was very polite and pleasant. This is not the place for a speedy lunch but if you have the time, it’s well worth the wait.

Texas Beef & Cattle Company – Menu with Prices – 1101 W Third St, Dayton

Finally got to try this place as I was in the area. Lunchtime on this Saturday was packed with two biker groups who stopped in during their ride. The restaurant wasn’t quite ready for these boisterous but fun guys and were doing their best to keep up with orders. I had time to wait so talked to a couple of them that had finished. They loved all the meat they tried (brisket, pulled pork and jalapeno sausage — said it was moist and tasty), enjoyed the Borracho beans (good hunks of brisket and onions), but warned to stay away from the cornbread — said it was “dry crap). I order a sampler to go — pulled pork, regular sausage, and burnt ends instead of the sliced brisket. All very tasty but I think in all the rush they (and myself) forgot to ask for BBQ sauce. The beans were truly delicious, pulled pork a little dry, sausage was pretty good and moist, and burnt ends pretty tasty but have had better. It’s almost like they took a shortcut and just trimmed them off but didn’t soak and cook some more. We’d like to come back and try the Huge beef ribs. Worth another visit.

Tia’s Kitchen Menu with Prices 100 S Canyonwood Dr, Dripping Springs

Upon walking up to the trailer, we were greeted by the most friendly woman. She was SO helpful when we were trying to figure out what to order. It was a tough choice since everything on the menu looked so dang good. Once we had landed on ordering two burritos – one with chicken and one with pork, both smothered with a red sauce and poblano cream sauce combo – she ensured we were satisfied by asking us if we wanted various salsas on top. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had as far as service. When we got home to eat our food, I had already decided I liked this place. But, you guys. When I opened my take out box, the smell was AMAZING. You know those times when you wish you had smell-o-vision just so you could fully express how great something smells? This was one of those times. So then… I took the first bite. OMG. I’m not exaggerating – it was so freaking good. The pork was perfectly cooked. The flavors were fantastic. The bean to rice to meat to cheese ratio was on point. Just outstanding. I cannot wait to try other items on the menu in the very near future. HIGHLY recommend. This place is a real gem!

Wasabi Xpress Menu with Prices 2838 Washington Rd, Augusta

I had the banh cha gio thit nuong. Which is basically a rice noodle salad with vegetables, charbroiled pork chop, egg roll and fish sauce poured over it. I had this dish for over 40 years so I know it quite well. First I’ll say their cha gio are small, thin versions of what I’m used to having. So when my banh dish came with only 1 egg roll (and the cut up pork chop), I was surprised. It just didn’t seem like a lot. Their rice noodles are different than I am used to also. Theirs are softer and larger in diameter. Almost the size of Italian spaghetti. Rice noodles or vermicelli is typically thin threads. So I’m not going to order this fish again. I did have their goi cuon. Fortunately it remained tasty and freshly made like last time.
