Talk about Fresh with a Gorgeous Presentation! Came here for dinner some time last week for the first time and will absolutely be back again. My boyfriend and I ordered both sashimi & rolls and we were both very happy with our selection. I had the tataki sashimi which was very slightly seared ahi with perfectly seasoned edges. My boyfriend ordered red snapper & salmon sashimi. Both our orders were served separately in bowls filled with shaved ice that kept our sashimi nice and cold (which I feel like all places should). I also ordered the “Lobster on Fire” roll and it was ACTUALLY on fire; both literally and figuratively.. SO LIT. My tastebuds were dancing all over the place. Aside from the food, the service was on point. We were greeted and seated immediately; given that it was an early Wednesday evening. Both a waitress and waiter were attentive and brought everything in a timely fashion. The waiter even joked with my boyfriend about not sharing which made the ambience light and joyful. We came in with empty stomachs and a craving for sushi & left full and completely satisfied!

Hickory Tavern – Menu with Prices – 206 Harvey St, Winston-Salem

We finally tried this place about a year ago and fell in love. The food and atmosphere were great and the service was even better. We told everyone we knew. We literally ate here at least once a week for 6 months. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Before I start, I have to say that my wife and I both work in customer service and are the first ones to give the benefit of the doubt when an establishment has an off night But two in a row starts a trend. The last time we ate here, they were really busy and had a couple of big parties going on. The food was not even close to what we first experienced. We were understanding, but disappointed none the less. We are not the type to complain, so we paid our bill and left. Tonight was a bit more frustrating and unacceptable. We walked in at 5 on a Friday. There were literally 4 tables occupied in the whole place. There was staff everywhere! We were seated immediately, but waited at least 10 minutes before someone came to the table. Meanwhile there were at least 15+ staff members hanging out at the service area. Finally a nice gentleman came to offer us drinks. He said he wasnâ??t sure who our server was, but he would help us. He wound up being our waiter for the evening. He did the best he could. Our order was wrong, we had to go to the bar and get our own drinks, but we did not complain. The manager was dancing around with staff like it was a 14 year olds slumber party. We paid our tab…left our server a nice tip…and will not be back.

Taishow Sushi – Menu with Prices – 1180 El Camino Ave, Corona

So yelp and the sign outside this place said 9PM for when this place closed… even the waitress admits this, so when we came at 8:30pm, hoping to be seated. The waitress says that kitchen was already closed despite the expected closing is 9pm… They at least gave us option for sushi only and to go for it… so that we didn’t have to be empty handed… still… I was disappointed. I feel like posted hours should be when kitchen is closed unless you are a bar or a type is establishment where it’s assumed though it says 2AM closing time (like a karaoke food place), one knows the hot foods usually stop at around 10pm… Anyways, sushi and sashimi was what we ordered. It was GOOD. I definitely would like to come back during their actual operating hours to try some of their non-sushi/sashimi options. So may upgrade ratings next time if that goes well. Hours Posted: 2 Service (average): 3 Sushi/Sashimi: 4.5 Overall: 3

NINETEEN at Awbrey Glen Menu with Prices 2500 Awbrey Glen Dr, Bend

I am giving two stars for the setting. I can’t give it any more (or less) because food and service were not to be, for us two seemingly invisible patrons, last night. I had wanted to try this place, as we live close by and I knew it was a beautiful setting, and we wanted to sit outside on this evening and have a glass of wine and some appetizers. All was on track at first (we were immediately seated at a nice table on the deck). It was not busy, at least on the deck (perhaps because it was a smoky evening). We waited patiently for 5-7 minutes for some attention, as in, from a waiter (at some point I began to note the time on my phone, as it was getting to be a lonnnnng wait for us increasingly thirsty and hungry people). We decided to give it 5-7 more minutes. After about 5 more minutes, a table of 6 was seated two tables away (the table between us was empty). They were immediately attended to by a cheerful waiter, taking their drink orders and chatting them up. We observed this for several minutes, and at that point we knew that this was not going to be the place for us on this night. We re-entered the dining room, walked through, and departed the same way we entered (i.e., the entrance/exit). No one said good-bye…no one cared (sob), we just must have been invisible. We made our way to another close-by establishment (Broken Top Bottle Shop), and were immediately attended to, had delicious food and drinks, and we felt entirely visible!

Brisky’s BBQ – Menu with Prices – 3009 N Ponce De Leon Blvd, St. Augustine

Very disappointed with my boyfriend and I’s first visit to Brisky’s! We were excited to try it, as my boyfriend’s favorite food is BBQ! We were greeted and seated in a timely manner. We put in an order of corn nuggets for an appetizer and got our drinks. We waited a while to have our order taken. As we waited the people sitting next to us complained how they weren’t even greeted yet! It turns out they failed to communicate to the waitress that she had a table! Finally our corn nuggets come and we have to stop our waiter from walking away to tell him were ready to order. He later delivers our food to us and spills fries off of the plate and says, “oh um.. alright” and walks away! Doesn’t say sorry, or even ask us if we need anything. The next time.he checks on us, I ask if I can change my drink to a soda. I didn’t like the tea and still had a full cup. He says yes, but walks aways and never grabs my drink. I can see him standing across the restaurant talking to another employee! We were not happy and the food was pretty plain. We got pulled pork, mac n cheese and ‘homemade’ fries. The mac n cheese was dried up and half the fries were dark brown and mushy. The pork was decent and their sauces are probably the best part of the experience. I’ve never left a restaurant thirsty.

Rodizio Grill Chattanooga Hamilton Place – Menu with Prices – 2100 Hamilton Pl Blvd #201, Chattanooga

I must admit that I entered this restaurant with a thorough understanding of what to expect. I’ve eaten at the downtown location 4 or 5 times since it opened, but this is my first try of the one actually closer to my home. The hostess was pleasant and warmly greeted us. Our reservation was at 7pm and our table was waiting when we arrived. The crowd was light on a Wednesday evening. Our server greeted us and reviewed the process. Of course, our party all ordered the full Rodizio experience; why come if not for endless meat?? The salad/hot bar here is epic with everything you might want and more, so it’s easy to see why some folks may only opt for this as a meal. The key for those continuing with large quantities of meat need to be certain to pace themselves and not fill up on the goodies at the hot bar. As an amateur my first visit I made this mistake and regretted it when I had to turn over my red/green meat retriever too early. Consider yourself warned. Once the meat started, the evening became a bit blurry as I ate until I got the meat sweats. Totally worth the agony. It was bacon-fest this visit, so I’m guessing I ingested more than my typically daily recommended allowance of salt and fat. Again, totally worth it. The manager stopped by while we ate and checked in. I do feel that the Gauchos here stopped by more often than I see them pass by in the downtown location. The waiter was more attentive and the overall service was a step up from their other location. IMHO. Overall another great dining experience. I definitely think this would get old if frequented, and not sure that would be good for my overall health either. But, as a once or twice a year special visit it still hold my attention and fills my gut with very good quality beef and other assorted items. Recommended, of course.

Fire And Ice Hookah Lounge – Menu with Prices – 40675 Grimmer Blvd, Fremont

A friend and I were looking for a hookah lounge one evening and after hearing good things about Fire N Ice, we decided to check it out! We arrived around 7:30pm on a Wednesday. Lucky for us because Happy Hour is all day on Wednesdays, so the Regular Hookah is ~$12! It wasn’t too crowded yet so we ordered hookah and grabbed an area to sit in. We wanted something a little bit unique so we went with a mix of Blueberry Muffin and Mint flavors. The hookah hit pretty well and lasted a while. The worker did come by to rotate the coals which I appreciate. It is a bit loud in here (like most hookah places), so maybe not the best place for talking or catching up, but if you’re looking for a relaxing spot with good music to smoke hookah that’ll last you around 2 hours, Fire N Ice does the job!

Rock-n-Sake Bar & Sushi – Menu with Prices – 107 Stonemont Rd, Lafayette

Sadly this place has gone down hill.. I’ve never seen worse service in my life.. when our table of 14 was seated waitress got our drink order, we received our drinks literally 22 minutes later.. second drink we decided to just go inside to the bar, where there were 3 people at the bar.. there were 2 bartenders and the lady manager with her unprofessional sleeveless T-shirt behind the bar chatting it up. 3 of us waited 8 minutes just to be asked “if we need something”.. let’s get to the food. Our waitress was down right mean, not the kind of waitress you want for your birthday celebrations.. She acted like we were bothering her when we asked for waters for everyone at the table.. The LSU roll was $5 last night but since we removed the avocado and tuna, the price went UP to $14! Please keep in mind they use 2 fried shrimp cut into 8 pieces for that roll, so usually the end piece with the shrimp tail is ONLY the inedible shrimp tail. But wait..there’s more. There were 14 people at this table, usually the food comes out allllllll at once. Nope, I was the lucky one I received my entree first, by myself.. then 5 minutes later my boyfriend.. I was taught etiquette so you wait to eat until everyone has their food. Well.. my food was cold waiting for everyone else to get their food..which was 20 minutes later, except one couple..we had to leave at 9:20 and they still didn’t receive their food. We got seated at 6:30… crazy Waitress literally brought our tickets while we were still eating and the couple who had not eaten yet, got their ticket too! I wish I remembered the waitresses name, she was horrible. Blonde hair with a twisted braid in her hair.. one more thing we paid cash and everyone paid with a card. Of course she took our payment first.. then after she received everyone else’s credit card payments she had the audacity to look at my boyfriend and I and asked “what did you do with your bill?” This was the worst experience I’ve had in a very long time. We’re all professionals that were at this dinner, most of us business owners.. I would’ve fired the waitress, the bartenders and the manager on spot. Our total spending that night was $3000. Not one of us will return. Not sure who or where the owner of Rock-n-Sake Sake is located, but I hope they see this.

Kyoto Sushi Bar & Hibachi Grill – Menu with Prices – 15525 Warwick Blvd, Newport News

Server was nice, I arrived at an early hour for lunch, seated and ordered cucumber salad, sashimi, vegetable tempura, and unsweetened tea. Ordered unsweetened tea but the tea came out to be sweet. I am not sure what I was expecting but I wanted hot brewed tea, I guess that was a little too much to ask and this is probably not a standard Japanese restaurant (which is not opened by Japanese people anyways… It was definitely too much to ask) Cucumber salad was terribly sweet and no flavor. It was just peeled cucumber with syrup and wasabi. The sashimi looked pretty good, very small portion for the price, but I guess it made sense since it was under the appetizer section. The worst was the tempura that I couldn’t even tell it was tempura. The batter was just egg and flour mix, it’s not fluffy at all and the taste was blend. Super disappointing meal overall, but it still deserved 2 stars for not bad service. But I got food poisoned that afternoon, the first time in my life got food poisoned from sashimi. Or maybe it was something else I don’t know. Felt terrible. Save your money somewhere else, Williamsburg is probably worth the drive for better sushi.

Socastee Station – Menu with Prices – 4504 Socastee Blvd a, Myrtle Beach

I had heard a couple of people mention this little place and they commented that it was really good. When we pulled in, i literally kind of hesitated. The outside doesn’t look like what you would expect….BUT Don’t let the looks fool you. We went inside to find a very Family Friendly restaurant and were seated very quickly. Our Waitress (Mary) was wonderful!! The service was very quick and the food was brought out just as fast. My Husband ordered the Fish Dinner, and in honor of Ash Wednesday, they had all you could fish. He ordered the fried Haddock, and it came with Fries and Cole slaw. The fish was fabulous. Light not fried ‘too done’ … actually it was perfect. I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, I just needed some Comfort Food, and it literally melts in your mouth. It was served with Mashed Potatoes and fresh green beans. Absolutely delicious. But the highlight came when Mary brought out the Fried Brownie!!! That dessert should be illegal!! It was beyond yummy!!! The brownie was deep fried and the chocolate inside literally melted as you cut into it. And if you can only imagine that brownie with a sweet Vanilla Ice cream…….. needless to say, we will be back!! Again don’t hesitate to go in!! The food is amazing!!!!!

Jannys Donuts – Menu with Prices – 92 Corporate Park, Irvine

Came into Jannys on a Wednesday evening before closing and was surprisingly impressed! I was greeted with a smile and great customer service. I initially asked how fresh the donuts were (because I have bought several stale bad tasting donuts before on different occasions at different donut shops) I was told Jannys Donuts are always fresh. That being said I ordered 1chocolate bar & 1maple bar. Paid and left to my car. As soon as I got into my car I took a bite of the maple bar just being curious how fresh these donuts were. I was not only excited how fresh they tasted and literally scarfed both donuts down. Going back inside to order 2 more donuts to go ? I will definitely be returning and recommending Jannys Donuts!

Sakana Sushi – Menu with Prices – 983 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

This is the old Simon’s coffee shop, turned Anthony’s, now Sakana! We had a party of 4 adults and 1 baby, so we needed to wait around 1245 pm on a snowy day. The staff was nice enough to let us know the other 2 tables of 4 were closing their checks; and fortunately we only waited 7-10 minutes. There was metered parking nearby and I used the Boston app on my phone to pay! Easy. We were seated and all four of us ordered the sashimi lunch. We also ordered the black forest roll—-so yummy! Tuna, asparagus, yellow tail and truffle! And the yellow tail scallion roll also hit the spot! The sashimi lunch was clean and was presented quite beautifully. It was on a grill rack over a piece of ice along w shiso leaves as garnish. The cuts were not large but the fish quality was very good. 8 pieces of sashimi and a bowl of sushi rice w tobiko sprinkled on top. The lunch special came w miso soup and a small salad. I requested the waiter for more ginger and hot waters and he very pleasantly obliged. Got an order of Cali rolls Togo but I’ll be back soon to get more of their specialty rolls and cooked foods!

Madame Poupon – Menu with Prices – 387A Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn

Had a really lovely experience at Madame Poupon, both because of the service & the food. My boyfriend and I came in on a Wednesday evening and grabbed a table in what was then a relatively empty restaurant. We each ordered the crepe complete (ham, cheese, egg) with asparagus, mushrooms, and onion jam. Then the chef brought over little butter & sugar crepe sample before our main dishes got there! He said he wanted us to sample what a true Brittany crepe was (spoiler: a true Brittany crepe is REALLY GOOD). Additionally, our waitress was so sweet and friendly! The service was a little slow, but she was so lovely and we didn’t care too much. My complaint with regards to this restaurant was that our food subsequently took like 30 minutes to arrive! This was probably because moments after we walked in, the restaurant got extremely full (and was super loud). Although this aspect was frustrating, once our crepes arrived, they were awesome. Personally, the egg was a little too rich for me, and next time I’d forgo it as unnecessary, but my boyfriend described it as an “excellent sodium kick”. We both agreed that the onion jam in the crepes was an essential addition (I wished there had been more!) and also really liked the ribboned asparagus slices to cut through the cheesiness. Also, the crepe itself is a masterpiece. It’s so good and somehow lightly sweet in a way that is perfect with the savory filling. We definitely loved our meal.
