We stopped here for a ‘look see’ and some coffee. We decided to stay a while. This little gem is located in the strip mall area with a Fry’s Marketplace around 64th Avenue and Happy Valley, The surprise is that once you step inside you find yourself in a place that you’d expect to find in a Colorado mountain town,,softly lit with a nice stone fireplace and a number of comfy chairs, wooden tables and wooden walls. Yeah, it looks like a mountain cabin! It’s a great ‘hang-out’ for students from the nearby college and anyone just wanting to relax and escape for a bit, We ordered a couple of lattes and shared an order of avocado toast. Toast was tasty and served with chopped tomatoes and a bit of feta cheese on thick multi-grain bread. The coffee was smooth-tasting with no ‘burn’. While the place is small, about seven tables are available for meet-ups, studying, etc Service is not fast, but that’s not a deal-breaker….this is not a fast food place,.,.,relax and enjoy the atmosphere.Bring a book and stay a while. Oh yeah, there are boxed games available if you are so inclined. I’m definitely going back and try something else on the menu and just hand out for a while,

Chappy’s Safari Lounge – Menu with Prices – 229 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids

Now serving breakfast Saturdays and Sundays. First of all, remember that this is a bar. So it’s dark inside and if you are coming here for a post-drinking binge you will feel at home. So I ordered an breakfast that came with eggs. Scrambled is how I like them. These were more like the bad dehydrated egg chunks that you would associate with a prison scene in the movies. Flavorless, weird texture and in a congealed glob. The reason I’m giving two stars? The toast was amazing. Had the whole breakfast been on par with the toast it would have been a five. I had the multi-grain and it was thick and tasty. If you’re using that good of bread, break some real eggs while you’re at it.

Franz Bakery Outlet Store – Menu with Prices – 430 E Casino Rd, Everett

So happy that Franz took over the old Hostess Building. It’s similar to what Hostess had to offer only a WHOLE lot healthier. They still have a items similar to Hostess, like the Little Debbie line, but nothing like Wonder Bread… Franz has bread that’s better than what Hostess had to offer. Franz even has discounted, Multi Grain organic bread! I give Franz extra points for not double packaging their Multi Grain bread like Orowheat does… I really don’t need to get rid of more plastic bags… I was there on Opening day… they did a lot of work cleaning up the property… all looks good. I wish Franz much success at all their new, former Hostess, locations in the Northwest!

Yipao Coffee Patio – Menu with Prices – 1728 Madison Ave, San Diego

Yippee! Yipao Coffee is in the house with their delicious single source Columbian coffee. I had a cafe au lait and toast with avocado, salted corn, queso fresco, and micro greens for $7. The au lait was $3. The coffee was terrific. It was smooth and rich and offered subtle chocolate and fruit flavors. The toast came on an artisan square bread. The avocado spread was tasty, the corn had good texture, and the queso fresco was light and flavorful. It was a good combination of flavors. The also offer locally baked goods. They are set up behind their future brick and motor. It’s a comfortable set with chairs and tables, and benches with little tables nearby. They also offer Wi-Fi, so if you want surf the net and relax in the shade or sun drinking your favorite coffee brew, it’s doable here!

Gluten Free Concepts – Menu with Prices – 3420 SE 21st Ave, Portland

WOW WOW WOW!!! I have never had better gluten free bread than Jensen’s bread. I accidentally discovered it on a recent trip to Napa, CA. Cafe Sarafornia offered gluten free toast. At first I was hesitant as I have had every imaginable miserable attempt at gluten free bread. I am happy I an persistant. WOW was I ever shocked and pleased. Even if this bread wasn’t gluten free it would be a stand out. My favorite so far is Multi-Grain & Seed Bread. My tastebuds were dancing!! Fast forward a week. I’m back home on the East coast and craving this amazing bread. Being an Amazon Prime member, I think I can order it via their website. No such luck. I search high and low. Nothing. I contacted the bakery via their FB page and the rest is history. I am desperately trying to get it to the east coast!

HEYDAY – Organic Cafe, Coffee Bar and Premium Office Catering – Menu with Prices – 555 Mission St, San Francisco

This place is terrible. My coworker and I came on a Monday morning to grab a quick brekkie & coffee. My coworker got the avocado toast & I got their cauliflower frittata. The bread used for the toast was SO HARD and when my coworker asked if they could heat up the toast for her (in hopes to soften the bread), the worker lady was just like “no, the avocado would burn in the panini press.” We were both like, what the actual fuck is wrong with you? Why does it have to go through the panini press? You guys have an oven, why can’t you just heat the toast in there? You’re not going to put a croissant in a panini press so clearly you’ve got other appliances you could have used to heat up the toast. Honestly, she was probably just lazy & really didn’t care about providing the best customer service. The cauliflower frittata was also tasteless and dry like the Sahara desert. The vanilla latte I got was also overly sweet & they don’t even fill the cup all the way. When they handed it to me, the cup was only 80% full, ok what???? Don’t come here. If you want good quality breakfast items then head over to blue bottle, or anywhere else but here.

Franz Bakery Outlet – Menu with Prices – N, 3024 N Monroe St, Spokane

Great staff! When I call ahead, they set aside limited quantities of gluten free multi grain bread loaves for me! All kinds of Franz products, some fresh, as well as lots of day olds, most at discounted prices. Regular flavor Cyrus O’Leary pies are all just $5.99 each. A punch card system earns you free goodies.

Zembaba 2 Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar – Menu with Prices – 12520 118 Ave NW, Edmonton

My favorite restaurant in my neighborhood is Zembaba 2 Ethiopian & Somali Cuisine Shisha Restaurant. I came into a bit of extra money today so I decided to treat myself and go eat something new. I ate Nech lamb tibs, it’s cooked in spicy butter with garlic, onion and green pepper and was served with a sliced loaf of some sort of excellent heavy multi-grain bread like I’ve never had since I last ate Ezekiel bread. It was so incredible. And very reasonable too, it was only $14 and I walked away totally stuffed. I could barely finish. Don’t even try this unless you like hot & spicy a lot. It was my little indulgence for this month and it was totally worth it.

Neat Coffee – Menu with Prices – 1922 Pomona Ave, Costa Mesa

My favorite coffee shop in the Costa Mesa area…HANDS DOWN! I’ve been a supporter for Neat since their days over at FLDWRK when it was just Allie at the front. It’s great to see the growth of this small little shop, offering more food and nice little pop-ups on the weekend. They even sell some fresh bread baked from Rye Goods. The espresso drinks are very consistent and offer a few flavored and seasonal drinks that are tasty. Their Golden Latte has been a staple and it is worth a try. They also have a ice draft latte that’s pretty good but a little too sweet for me. My favorite is the honey cinnamon latte iced of I’m looking for something other than my usual cappuccino which is solid. They offer a variety of toasts and offer breakfast burritos from Rooster Truck but that’s only on the weekend. The toast is served with two slices and there is a mix and match option which is nice if you want to try different ones. The pan con tomate is well balanced and not too sweet or tangy with the right amount of salt. The sweet toast is good but the orange zest is a bit too citrus much for me. The avocado toast is pretty good but not a fan of the dill. The bread itself is very good and soft with the right amount of toast on them. Atmosphere is friendly and casual. The employees are always asking about your day and make it a point to get to know their customers in their neighborhood. The space is well designed and a great place to meet with friends and catch up. It’s also a great place for families with small children. Overall, I think the coffee and food offerings are great. Support your local neighborhood coffee shops! 5 stars coffee 4 stars food 5 starts atmosphere and staff

Country Place – Menu with Prices – 3618 E Columbia Ave, Spokane

I was hungry and the DD for two others so I ordered an iced tea and a Philly sandwich. It was tasty!! The bartender made all the food and served all the drinks alone!! She worked fast, didn’t burn anything and made no mistakes as far as I saw. We didn’t stay long but the atmosphere was friendly enough. I saw a pool table, pull tabs and lots of televisions sets. It’s a cute building hidden in a slightly industrial area.

Cute and comfy, warm and inviting. A perfect sweet spot to sit back, relax and sip your java. No to coffee withdrawals, potheads welcome as posted at the entrance! Feed those veins with soothing, organic and tasty caffeine. A self-serve, vegan-friendly coffee shop, customize your drink and personalize your cup of joe the way you want it to be. Pour your freshly brewed coffee of choice from a beer tap and finish it with coconut or hazelnut creamer. Choose from hot or cold, nitro or espresso, latte or cappuccino. Also on the menu are kombucha, smoothies, cold pressed juices, wellness shots, tea and matcha. Bummed and disappointed with their food availability, everything was out except for the muffins and bagels wrapped in plastic, pre-made oats, and chia pudding from the fridge. The young, sweet staff said the owner was away so they hadn’t stocked up. Hopefully I can try their wrap, parfait or avocado toast next time. Got their overnight oats (generous and yummy) and a hot coffee with double espresso (smooth and delicious). Got my caffeine fix with a healthy bite to match so it’s all good for now!

CAFE ESPRESSO – Menu with Prices – 411 Butternut St, Syracuse

Cafe Express. Great place for espresso or cappuccino on a Saturday morning. Lots of locals speaking in fast Italian, with energetic hand gestures, mostly men in 40’s to 60+. Only 10% women. Non stop line, as soon as it gets down to one person, 2 more appear for a refill. The barista seems to be the bartender here where coffee is revered. Great atmosphere with neighborhood culture, and nowhere else to be or nothing else to do… Hey, it’s Saturday! If you want to meet attractive older Italian men this is the place to be. Marilyn Monroe images on the wall, tile floor, tables for 2 -12. Just heard 70 year old say “Yeah, she wants me for my body.” Another, “I can’t stand a drunk woman.”
