Summary: Artists and writers portray the disorientation of a world facing climate change. This monumental volume, drawn from a 2020 exhibition at the ZKM Center for Art and Media, portrays the disorientation of life in world facing climate change. It traces this disorientation to the disconnection between two different definitions of the land on which modernizing humans live: the sovereign nation from which they derive their rights, and another one, hidden, from which they gain their wealth–the land they live on, and the land they live from. Charting the land they will inhabit, they find not a globe, not the iconic “blue marble,” but a series of critical zones–patchy, heterogenous, discontinuous. With short pieces, longer essays, and more than 500 illustrations, the contributors explore the new landscape on which it may be possible for humans to land–what it means to be “on Earth,” whether the critical zone, the Gaia, or the terrestrial. They consider geopolitical conflicts and tools redesigned for the new “geopolitics of life forms.” The “thought exhibition” described in this book can opens a fictional space to explore the new climate regime; the rest of the story is unknown. Contributors include Dipesh Chakrabarty, Pierre Charbonnier, Emanuele Coccia, Vinciane Despret, Jerome Gaillarde, Donna Haraway, Joseph Leo Koerner, Timothy Lenton, Richard Powers, Simon Schaffer, Isabelle Stengers, Bronislaw Szerszynski, Jan A. The Noreen book was created to serve customers who do not wish to teach the financial accounting-oriented content that is included in the Garrison book. The book provides a succinct outline of principles, accompanied, as with all the “Schaum” titles, by numerous sets of solved and unsolved problems which elaborate and illustrate those principles. “Writing Matters” clarifies the responsibility writers have to one another – whether they are collaborating in an online peer review or drawing on digital and print sources in a research project – to treat information fairly and accurately and to craft writing that is fresh and original – their own!…to the audience. Students also get hands-on experience in practicing with statistical techniques, using the computer, choosing the appropriate test, and designing a new test. The text’s numerous illustrations, examples, class discussion items, and chapter questions & exercises provide an opportunity to understand and apply mechatronics concepts to actual problems encountered in engineering practice. The authors use personal experience and research that supports a complete set of developmental concepts and skills to outline the effective development of mathematical concepts and skills. Not only does “Coburn” present a sound problem-solving process to teach students to recognize a problem, organize a procedure, and formulate a solution, the text encourages students to see beyond procedures in an effort to gain a greater understanding of the big ideas behind mathematical concepts. Critical Zones by Bruno Latour Organized by organ systems, this text brings the anatomy alive for students by interspersing narrative text throughout and explaining how the shape and structure of an organ relates to its function, and how evolutionary processes have transformed the form and function of organs.Additionally, the authors introduce a new feature, Anatomy in Action boxes, which contain interesting supplemental material that provides a broader context. Composing Inquiry is a reader/rhetoric that takes seriously the call to engage undergraduates in intellectual work.
